20080604 Protect v2

Deyo 21:06, 4 June 2008 (PDT)

Suggestion type
Action

Suggestion scope
Survivors

Suggestion description
Add an action to the Survivor menu: "Protect [ ]" This allows a large enough group of survivors to protect a high-value item, a trained healer or reviver, or a nefarious killer whose bounty has climbed to KOS.

The bracket is a drop-down which gives the following selections:

  • All Survivors in the same location (like Attack/FAK)
  • All destroyable objects in the same location (like Attack)

Cost: 2 APs

Effect: Until your next action, you are "protecting" the target in the first bracket, by shielding it with your own body. Any one attack which targets that object or person targets you instead, and will have a 15% greater chance to hit, though armor applies as normal. After you "take the shot", you are no longer protecting the target. If multiple survivors are protecting the same target, they will each take one attack, in the order that their Protect actions were queued.

This would give a large number of survivors the option of protecting a target from a small number of intruders. Any large force intent on wiping out survivors will be virtually unaffected by this action. Voters will immediately deduce that I am trying to prevent GKing by roaming zombie-survivors, and will be absolutely correct. This version omits any attack element, automatic or otherwise. It also differs from "Over My Dead Body" in that the protect action only happens once, and increases the attacker's chance of scoring a hit against someone. Also, some votes on OMDB seemed to think that it voided the attack altogether, which was not the case, although I had to read the description multiple times before I saw that myself.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author vote. Zombie players and PKers claim that GKers have little to no real effect on the game except to irritate survivors. Let's see them put their votes where their mouths are. -- User:Deyo 21:06, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
  2. Keep - now that this has been revised so that it is more like taking the bullet it seems far more balanced. --Lt.G Deathnut freelance 06:57, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - well, why not. Even that nerfed it can make protecting generators possible. Leon Clinton 09:59, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - Makes sense. --Pgunn 13:19, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep - As Pgunn. Would be nice to be able to protect generators. Adds a new element to the game. Yes Generators are legitimate targets - that's why it makes sense that survivors would try to protect them. --Tselita 21:24, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  6. Keep - Eh...--Jamie Cantwel3 TalkAll glory to the Hypnotoad! 14:49, 6 June 2008 (BST)
  7. Keep - Sure. Reasonable. --BoboTalkClown 22:05, 6 June 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Change - Make it so that you can only protect inanimate objects like generators, but not people, and you get my Keep. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:52, 5 June 2008 (BST) (Well, maybe: the other Kill & Spam voters are making other valid points against this. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 12:17, 5 June 2008 (BST))
  2. Kill - Generators are legitimate targets during sieges, and with this change, zombies will never be able to know whether it's worth them attacking the generator, because they can't know how many survivors are piled on top of it (how many AP's it will take to destroy) -- boxy talki 10:09 5 June 2008 (BST)
  3. Change - Better this time, but take away the survivor protecting thing (as Funt) and make it so that you can see how many survivors are protecting an object. -- Cheese 10:31, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  4. Change - As Funt. --Sir Bob Fortune RR 21:36, 5 June 2008 (BST)
  5. Kill - Interesting, but this seems open to spam abuse. Also, who is really gonna take a zombie claw for a generator? (Sidenote: after reading this one I got the mental image of a conga line of survivors leaping up one by one to protect a genny, like some kind of Broadway choreography.)--Jiangyingzi 21:58, 5 June 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - You wanna "protect" a person? Heal them. You wanna "protect" a genny? Repair it. This suggestions allows you do to something that the game engine already covers -- but for an abusurdly reduced AP cost. No. Do it the old fashioned way: FAK 'em. Or repair/replace the genny. And... Or.... play smarter and hide better! Sheesh. --WanYao 11:24, 5 June 2008 (BST)
Spam Why? how would that give you a bonus? unsigned vote struck --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 13:23, 5 June 2008 (BST)
