20080410 What Class Are You?

Acoustic Pie 19:28, 10 April 2008 (BST)

Suggestion type
Profile Text Change.

Suggestion scope
Everyone.

Suggestion description

Quite simple this, currently when looking at someone's profile it will show whether you are; Military, Science, Civilian or Zombie. What I propose is that it tells you what kind of Military, science, civilian you are. I.e.

Military: Private. Medic. Scout.

Science: NecroTech Lab Assistant. Doctor.

Civilian: Police officer. Firefighter. Consumer.

Zombie: Corpse.

As for a character who starts as a zombie then once they are revived for the first time they get to choose what they are (with no extra skills been given to them). However when they die they would turn into a corpse and once revived would then be what they chose. This just provides a little more flavour freedom for those zedz who don't want to be civilians.

Also on the stats page it would still show the normal 4 classes but if this were implimented it could mean an extra detail bit which shows the breakdown of cops/doctors/medics/corpses etc.

For older players a message would pop onto the screen when they next logged in and they could choose what they started as. They would choose one of the options in their specific class (as they would already be in one of the 4 classes), they wouldn't be able to choose outside of their main class but it gives them the opportunity to change what they may have had at first (with no extra skills given to them when they choose) because of RP purposes. This just adds a bit more detail and flavour to the characters instead of a vague kind of thing. And yes you could put that you're a medic, or a cop on your profile and you may want to be vague in which case you could choose to ignore the message. However Bear in mind that the message for choosing the type of sub-class you're in would only show up once to stop people from choosing the new one when it comes out.

This would also be shown when a new sub-class comes in (e.g. Engineer), so it has potential for the future as well.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Eh. Might as well give a use for classes.--ShadowScope'the true enemy' 19:32, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Keep - Personally I'd like to see the breakdown of the sub-classes. Acoustic Pie 19:38, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - There's absolutely no harm in implementing this, like I said in Talk:Discussion. Nice little addition --Tselita 20:29, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - This would be cool, me like it!--Jamie Cantwel3 05:45, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep - yes, please - it's bugged me since the start. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 15:49, 16 April 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Would give misleading stats. Old characters outnumber new ones and the fact that they can pick any subclass (or none) will distort the numbers. IOW it's too late for this, though it would work well in a new map if one was ever created. --Explodey 20:02, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re. Then what would you think to having an option to just show the class rather than sub-class in the profile, but be still made to choose one? Acoustic Pie 20:43, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re. The stats would still be meaningless as players could lie about (or even forget) what sub-class they originally picked. Unless this info has already been logged for all characters (which I doubt.) I'd like to know how many people start as consumers as much as you would, but the data just isn't there. I would vote for corpses being able to pick their class when revived, if you suggested that seperately. --Explodey 09:44, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - Fairly pointless. There is no functional difference between (say) a scout who buys firearms training, and a private who buys free running. At the levels where it still matters, you can tell by looking at the (very short) list of skills they have. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 20:17, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re. What about those who level up? Pretty much everyone levels up sooner or later. Also everyone starts somewhere, it's interesting to see what choices were made, as people level up it'll be a reminder to them and others. Acoustic Pie 20:43, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Useless info. I think the fact of them being Military, Science, or Civilian is good enough. Besides, those starting classes titles become useless as you progress through the game. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:38, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Kill - This 'is' metagaming. And as much as we all love it, we can't give our players extrasensory perception beyond knowing that they belong to one of three catagories. --Vandurn 23:52, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Kill -I don't really see any point to it.--Airborne88Zzz1.JPGT|Z.Quiz|PSS 02:46, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  6. I had suggested this as part of another suggestion allowing players to get "class skills" but that didn't go over to well. But as mentioned above (which is a problem) classes are pretty irrelevant after a few levels anyway.--Pesatyel 04:47, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  7. kill - allowing people to change their classes... killed an otherwise potentially ok idea. sorry. --WanYao 10:10, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  8. Kill - Pointless. --UCFSD 13:04, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  9. Kill - As various of the above. If you get to choose you're starting class at the end, it's pointless! -- The Lethal Trio [Tlk|NTCS|RRF] U! E! 16:10, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  10. Kill - I already know what class people are. Eitehr military, scientist, or civilian. --Jack S13 T! PC 17:09, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  11. Kill - I think the classes already shown are sufficient enough. --ZsL 17:58, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  12. Kill - Allready enough classes shown for me.--Carnexhat 21:27, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  13. Kill - I perfer not. --BoboTalkClown 22:11, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  14. Kill - class has almost no meaning anyway. If you really want to advertise yours, put it in your description.--xoxo 05:30, 21 April 2008 (BST)
