Suggestion description
Scouts start with just a flare gun and binoculars. That flare gun isn't much of a weapon, it's a signaling device. It doesn't seem realistic that the army would let loose a soldier without a real method of self defense.

It'd be something that'd allow a scout to spend a long time exploring without any need to restock on supplies. A knife makes sense. Compact, light, doesn't need ammo.

I suggest that scouts start off with a knife in addition to the flare and binoculars. This wouldn't overpower the class - even with the knife they'd still be far less effective fighters and xp earners than firemen.

Keep - A knife doesn't exactly make a scout a powerhouse, though I seriously think a scout should have a radio or cell phone or something which gives him/her an idea of what's going on elsewhere/communication with other scouts and HQ.   9. Keep - I can see why people would think this is a bad idea but, being a soldier they should have some kind of weapon. I think they should get a gun when they start but hey that's just what I think. In fact I think all classes should now start with a gun, it's be what how long since the "outbreak." Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Two things, 1)Scouts don't need weapons, they scout, flares on the other hand. . . 2) Flare guns are more useful unskilled than any other weapon in the game, Scouts are unskilled, so for flavor reasons you're going to give them a worse starting item? And even then, Knives are useless to low level players, especially scouts who are meant to rely on movement, not combat, it would make more sense to give them a DNA Extractor, except they can't use it at level 1, much like they can't use a knife at level 1 because of variance, it's a joke.--Karekmaps?! 21:04, 23 June 2008 (BST)
    • Re The flare is a one use item that starts with 2.5% accuracy. A knife is a great newbie weapon for those without combat skills, starting with 20% base accuracy and dealing 2 damage. Sure scouts are based around movement, but they have to level up too. --Jon Pyre 21:30, 23 June 2008 (BST)

  5. Scouts have the benefit of Free Running which allows them to find better weapons easier then some other classes. And Karek, the knife is THE newbie weapon. That is why it starts at 20% to hit.--Pesatyel 05:56, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  6. Kill - As all above. They have free running and are thematically supposed to scout out areas and recover. They are not intended to engage in combat, thus giving them a weapon in thier limited crap allotment is thematically innacurate. In a realistic world, a soldier would be dropped into a combat zone with a pistol, a dozen or so reloads, body armour, and medical supplies, but they arent in UD, in the same way scouts start with stuff all and have to search some stuff out (Something they are uniquely suited to in the early game) --The Grimch U!
