20081027 Hello! Can you hear me?
RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 12:56, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion type
Minor RP tweak.
Suggestion scope
Survivors and Zombies in the game Urban Dead.
Suggestion description
Quite simply, you can always use the speak button. This applies to both the living and the dead. Im sure many zombies in a ruined mall would love to praise barhah.
Not only good for RP, but also removes one of those situations where buttons change places on you.
For example. Whilst explaining this on Developing Suggestions I unidled a character to prove my point. http://iwrecords.urbandead.info/10-19-08_2300hrs_PUBLIC/OUT_99-75_talky_2c2-f43-5d2.html Unfortunately he happened to be in Penny Heights just as the MOB hit. I had some choice words to say, but sadly could not express them.

Keep Votes
- Keep I am the author and I enjoy talking to myself. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 12:59, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Keep - I'm voting keep, this means you should all vote keep. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 13:15, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Since Midianian wants a nice justification for this, here's one: I'm voting keep because the lemon is a citrus fruit. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 14:22, 27 October 2008 (UTC)- Note - Inane vote removed. Please vote on the merits of the suggestion. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:15, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - Voting keep for RP reasons and because it fixes a (minor) bouncing button problem. Linkthewindow Talk 21:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - I have tried doing this more than once. Would love to see it implemented. --Haliman - Talk 22:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- So, Why can't I whisper to myself, Or perhaps 'talk' to myself without speaking, Just moving my lips. Or talk to myself in my head. I find it unlikely this would have such an impact on UrbanDead. Actually, clarify the suggestion, I am a bit confused. 'Waste' AP, why would it cost an AP and not just an IP Hit? Though, Can only you hear you? ■■ 00:15, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - Make the explanation something like "Survivors and zombies, being driven with rage, have started calling out, even when nobody is around." • LtZurSee slapped your nose with a newspaper for a heal from CORAM (0 seconds ago) 06:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - But as because whenever you talk in the new town, it enters you in the competition (as far as I understand, it being up for 2 hours), Kevan will probably only introduce this after the comp is done. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 10:39, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - My PKers enjoy taunting their victims, and a lot of times they're denied that. Just as long as we don't have the bodies on the ground talking, this is good stuff. --Howard Bentley 23:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - As above. --Private Mark 00:54, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - As the opposite of J3D and Pesatyel (Dead can't hear) and as the opposite of Midianian, Honestmistake, A Helpful Little Gnome and Sanpedro ("Because I don't want to, you can't" is not a valid argument). -- Galaxy125 02:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - It's a decent idea roleplay wise. I can't see it increasing server load if it still costs an AP and an IP hit. Legion8 05:46, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - Talking to yourself is a sign of insanity, y'know. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 08:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep – If not implemented in-game, this could be done pretty easily via Greasemonkey, and can already be done via judicious use of your browser's "Back" button. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 06:51, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - Makes sense, why the heck not? ----Ash | T | яя | 23:42, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - No reason you shouldnt be able to talk to noone --Tjayh913 14:37, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - I have wanted to talk to myself and I see no reason to not be able to do it. (These days I just find a radio transmitter and use that when I want to talk to myself) but if it can be added I see no reason not to.--– Nubis NWO 00:02, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes
- Kill - While i like the idea of talking to myself, i don't think dead bodies should be able to hear and this creates confusion as to whether or not they can. People will see the speak button and rant at dead bodies thinking they can hear. So if you mean dead bodies can hear, then i think this is a bad idea. And if you mean dead bodies can't hear then that needs to be explained when someone speaks, something like you say "BARHAH HARMANZ!!!" but nobody is around to hear you. --xoxo 00:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure about the point. If you want to wast AP "talking to yourself" go ahead, but why, really would you want to? How does it make the game more fun? I can think of how it can make the game LESS fun. Imagine you get killed and your body is laying there and some asshole comes along and spams you up with garbage. Wow. Fun. I'm not voting spam, only because it would be a good idea to keep the buttons in position. But the rest? I just have to ask: Why?--Pesatyel 02:10, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Kill There's no reason why you should want this. If you want to talk to yourself, feel free to do so IRL. --William Told 01:54, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Kill - Dead bodies are deaf, and this would contribute unnecessarily to server load. --Pestolence(talk) 21:11, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - As dead bodies cannot hear speech (even if the can hear radios and greans), this is an action that doesn't do anything, and isn't even visible to others. That's a waste of code. And bandwidth. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 14:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- spam utterly pointless unless bodies can hear you. if the game changes to let them then i still say no.... you wanna speak to the dead do it before they die or wait till they get up!--Honestmistake 22:45, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Spam - Dead bodies are deaf. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:52, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- RE Don't mind if I address the above three comments all at the same time? I don't really understand the waste of code/bandwith argument. Surely the code already exists to speak? And indeed speak on your own (Diary room anyone?) How does it waste bandwith? Its just the same usage as speaking in a room with other people? Secondly. This isn't about speaking to the dead. Notice how I removed that before bringing it to voting. Now its much more RP focussed. I can Iwitness myself praying, or laughing over the body of someone ive pk'd or, well other things. Finally as Mid says "They can hear radios and greans". First of all, Im not talking to them! (and theres no Dead Bodiesin urban dead). And anyway again its not about talking to the dead. Notice how I don't mention that anywhere? (Apart from here) --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Spam - Just pretend that you spoke to yourself. Just like I'm going to pretend that I have a roast beef sandwich Sanpedro 01:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Spam - Because with things regarding speak functions server load actually is a valid justification; It's already led to at least one significant speech change.--Karekmaps?! 21:45, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
