FAQ
What is a Bureaucrat?
A bureaucrat (AKA crat) is a user with the ability to promote and demote users for sysop and bureaucrat positions. The Urban Dead Wiki mantains two active bureaucrats at all times, with elections occurring every three months to promote a sysop into bureaucrat, filling the position of the one who has least recently had an election.
A bureaucrat whose position is being filled can run for reelection, with no limits on how many times a bureaucrat can remain in the position.
Can I become a Bureaucrat?
Only System Operators (aka sysop) can become bureaucrats. Users who are part of the Urban Dead Wiki community for a set period of time and which have made a certain number of edits can be promoted to sysop, as long as they get the rest of the community support. For more information on how to become a sysop, read the sysop promotions page.
System Operators can become bureaucrat if elected by the community. A sysop needs to be active in the previous months of the election in order to run for crat. If he becomes active AFTER the election begun, he will only be able to run for 'crat in the next election.
Can I vote?
Any user can vote. You can only vote in one candidate per election, and any user who vote more than once will have all their votes stricken.
Can I vote for myself?
If you are a sysop and eligible for voting, you can vote for yourself.

Next election
Should be for boxy's slot since he is a mid season replacement for AHLG who was elected BEFORE Cheese. Don't let him slip in as Crat for Life. -- #99 DCC 13:58, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the way the policy is worded is that it's the oldest 'crat's bid that gets put up. No reason why Cheese should get an extra long bid because Gnome stepped down.--Karekmaps?! 14:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- So, if a crat whose position will be up for grabs in the next election is demoted two and half weeks before the end of his term, the crat who gets elected will only keep his position for half a week ? for someone who tries to appear smart, this was a really dumb idea, DCC. The guidelines for bureaucrat election are not hard to understand, and they are pretty clear about whose position will be voted on next time --People's Commissar Hagnat talk mod 15:21, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- 'Crats come under default election if they go 12 months without one, so that saves the possibility of 'Crat for life, DCC. Linkthewindow Talk 20:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
August Election
So, it's nearly the 15th Beurocrat election! And on the 15th, how fitting. So, what's the community opinion in the pre-election? Link can't run because he's already a crat, Daranz and Swiers don't look like they'll have enough edits. That leaves everyone else as a potential candidate. Whether or not they run is a different matter. From the last election, looks like Conndraka will be pulling out.
That leaves:
Suicidalangel
Boxy
Cyberbob240
DanceDanceRevolution
Krazy monkey
Nubis
Rosslessness
The General
The Rooster

- 20th is a bit pointless really, given that it's the same Monday to Friday week as Christmas, anyone who interwebs from school/uni/college is likely to be away and therefore can't vote. If you're going to move it, then Friday the 18th would include such backwards people without home iwebs (though it'd obviously have to kick off from start of school/uni/college time in the Antipodes to allow everyone a chance. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 15:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

jerrel's question
I would like to know why I can't be Promo'd to ANYTHING!-- Jerrel tlk (82nd!) (Project Unwelcome!). 01:29, 12 April 2010 (BST)
- Possibly due to your vast inactivity. A sysop is expected to be highly active so as to constantly maintain the wiki's admin tasks, and a bureaucrat is expected to be even more active so as to have a good understanding of the activity levels and reliability of the members of the community. 01:33, 12 April 2010 (BST)
- Indeed. Bureaucrat positions are only available to current sysops, and sysops have to meet certain criteria in order to be promoted to that position. When last you applied for promotion to sysop, you failed to meet the minimum activity requirements in order to be eligible for promotion. While those requirements can be waived in the case of widespread community support, I'm afraid that you didn't appear to have that widespread support at the time. Check the guidelines at the top of these pages and they should explain what's necessary for promotion, in terms of raw objective numbers and other, more subjective, measures. —Aichon— 01:49, 12 April 2010 (BST)
