Dual Nature Policy

What is Dual Nature? Dual Nature is never looking for a revive. Dual Nature is never dying in vain. Dual Nature is taking a bullet to the head, a syringe to the neck, or a bite to the throat, and smiling about it. Dual Nature is about logging in each day and knowing that whichever side you're on is the right side, and the right side is whichever side you are on. Dual Nature is about smashing down the same barricades you worked to defend yesterday, and then building them back up tomorrow. It is about eating survivors, and killing zombies. It is about change. It is about roleplaying. It is about realism.

Dual Nature leaves no room for fear. It makes PKers irrelevant. It helps you realize that life and death are a joke, and it helps you laugh about it.

Dual Nature is about Urban Dead, and Urban Dead is about Dual Nature.

The Policy

The Dual Nature Policy (started on 21:29, 3 August 2006 (BST)) is intended to promote the inherent dual nature brought on by the combination of undeath and NecroTech research. According to the tenets of the policy, "Dual Nature" means that every person in Malton has two different states, those being alive and dead. Given the unique conditions of Malton, it is possible to shift between these states easily. Many groups and individuals think of themselves as only one of these "dual natures", those being survivors or zombies. This is made difficult thanks to both revivification technology and the chaotic, oft-deadly setting of Malton. To counteract this, said groups have taken to meta-gaming in forming their own policies, such as the Sacred Ground Policy, Scorched Earth Policy, and many others. If the "Dual Nature" of each person in Malton is to be recognized, they must allow for natural circumstances. The afore-mentioned policies limit this inherent nature by encouraging people to embrace only one of their dual natures. This policy, the Dual Nature Policy, encourages this natural, two-fold state.

Opponents of the policy will see it as harmful, while proponents will argue that it causes only a shift in their dual nature, which, they believe, is no more harmful than the melting of ice into water. The components of the Dual Nature Policy are as follows:

  1. Random revives by NecroTech officials are not only permitted, they are encouraged. However, if the situation calls for conventional weapons, do not hesitate to use them.
  2. Revive points, seeing as they emphasize one nature over the other, should be ignored, or if one feels rather strongly on the issue, actively attacked.
    • Alternatively, Dual Naturalists who wish to continue working at revive points should give priority to zombies who have a more advanced zombie nature than survivor. This emphasizes the advancement of both ends of one's dual nature.
  3. Zombies following this policy are expected to deal with revivification as a natural part of the cycle, rather than simply searching for equipment and reverting to their undead state.
  4. While the zombie skill of Brain Rot is not prohibited, it is advised that one avoids this skill, due to both the survivor-only state stigma against zombies with this skill, and the intentional impediment to more fluid dual naturalism.

Advantages

  • Those who prefer the state of survivor, yet do not wish to join an organization, may revert to life more easily.
  • Those who prefer the state of zombie will still find themselves as such, for the most part, but not so much as to cut off their living state.
  • Abilities when one's dual nature shifts will not be nullified to the effect that a "pure" survivor or zombie would be.

Disadvantages

  • Those with a heavy preference for one state over the other may find themselves weakened when their nature changes, and if unwilling to deal with such a state, may neglect their improvement of said state in favor of seeking a reversal of status.

Supporters

If you or your group is in favor of the Dual Nature Policy, note this below, preferably with a link to profile or organization page. Additionally, adding "Dual Nature" to your groups on your profile can be an indication of support and may also encourage NTs who view your profile to revive you.

Red Mage.gif Roleplaying Notice
Notice: This User or Group enjoys the RPG aspect of MMORPGs, the category of games that Urban Dead falls into. As such, there is probably quite a bit of roleplaying and/or creative writing on this page and in said User/Group's in-game actions. In other words, if you think the difference between IC and OOC is "One has an 'I' and the other has two 'O's," buzz off.
