20071205 Profile Hits

Acoustic Pie 18:25, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Profile Page tweak.

Suggestion scope
Who or what it applies to.

Suggestion description
Simple, just show a hit count on the bottom of your profile page to see how many people have visited it. Good for notorious human players and zombies alike. However it may be a bit harder as a zombie as there are not too many links to their profile page, but it could still be done and thus is good for both kinds of players. Other players can see the hits and the actual player can choose the option of resetting their hit counts whenever they want.

I think it would be good, it can be used as an indicator of how iconic (or not) you are. I mean at some point or another I think everyone has that little bit of curiosity of how many people have looked at their profile.

Next to the hit count there would be another 'contact count' and that would be how many people have added that player as a friend. There would be no way of seeing that person's contacts, just how many people have added them as a friend.

Also to avoid spam I was thinking of it being reset at the start of every 2 months to avoid server lag, if people were constantly refreshing their page just for the hits.

This may not be the biggest change in UD but I'd like to know how notorious I am and i'm sure other people would like to see how notorious they are, and I think this is a good way of seeing that.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author Vote, and thanks to all those who helped on the talk:suggestion page. Acoustic Pie 18:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep - I like it. I don't see why people are against it because it's abused because people would only really use their own hit counter anyway. If someone wants to get 10,000 hits with it, that's fine. Studoku 00:00, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep - Meh doesn't help or hurt, if some fool wants to refresh his page many times so be it, only makes me laugh at them for wasting their time.--Zach016 00:47, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep Don't really care about the hit count thing. The number of people who have added you to contacts (not necessarily friends btw) would be interesting to see. --Jon Pyre 03:33, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Sure just get rid of the "Contact" part... I have people on my contact labeled as "Kill for the Good of Humanity" ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 05:53, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Keep UD is too a popularity contest! Just check out all those fancy signatures in here.--Actingupagain 16:36, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Spider-Man! Spider-Man! Does whatever a spider can!!! BoboTalkClown 20:23, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Weak keep - Makes UD approach a social networking site, but nothing wrong I can see with it. –Ariedartin Talk 05:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - UD isn't a popularity contest. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - My penis is big enough, thanks. --Druuuuu Ocular 19:24, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Use the brain counter if you want to measure hits.--Karekmaps?! 20:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill - it's not Graaaagh! --~~~~ [talk] 20:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - -- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 20:52, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - Follow Duke's link, and then you can measure the size of your epeen --Ryiis 21:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill - Feeds the stupid side of ego. --Pgunn 23:43, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Above and below -- boxy talkI 01:39 6 December 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - As the first couple kill votes. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 01:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - It adds an element of fear to not know how many people have you in their contacts, how many are "watching you"... and possibly trying to kill you. This would negate that. Also, seeing how many people click your profile doesn't really show how famous you are. I'll randomly click on people's profiles just because they're in the same room as me. Will I remember them? Not unless they try to PK or ZK me. I think the profiles are better off without the hit count. --Ms.Panes 02:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill - I think everything has been already said --Bring The Pain!Anti Gorefest5Fight The Pain!TMW!B! 03:17, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Weak-arse kill - Yes, abusable, and somewhat unnecessary. And use the Graaaagh! counter for kicks, and as above. Glenstone 03:41, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  13. Kill - Waste of time. I already love the Graaaagh! page. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 05:36, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. Kill - This isn't myspace. --Steakfish 03:32, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. kill - no myspace junk. i mean myspace is fine... but not here. --WanYao 10:25, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - You said it yourself: "if people were constantly refreshing their page just for the hits". --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:52, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - not necessary, abuseable as Funt points out. --Pavluk A! E! 21:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. SPAMSPAMSPAM - this would only work if it measured ISP addresses that have visited the page, and that would be boring. --Officer 123satsitx 22:48, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Tom won't be my friend. Why won't Tom be my friend? --Karloth Vois RR 01:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. WTF? - UD ain't no FaceBook. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 09:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Spam- I don't care how many people visit my profile. -- BKM 17:18, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. What is this? Xanga, Myspace, or Facebook? Last time I checked, it was none of the above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 11:08, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
