Suggestion description
I know you guys are hitting the "no rifles!" button as soon as you see what the suggestion is about, but I think this would be balanced, and do something new so as to be worth using. The Rifle would have 10% encumbrance, and would be found at half the rate of a shotgun(in the same location), in PDs, Armories and mall gun stores. Flavor text would be something along the lines of finding a hunting rifle in the gun store, or a Military/Police issue Sniper Rifle in Armories or PDs. Rifle clips would be found at half the rate of shotgun shells or pistol clips, and would contain 4 rounds. Each shot would deal five damage, and the gun would have a base accuracy of five, same as the others. It would have the same range as a shotgun or pistol, it could NOT shoot into an adjacent square or out of a building. However, it would stand apart due to the skills attached to it:

  • Basic Firearms training(+25)
  • Rifle Training(+25)
  • Advanced Rifle Training(+10)
  • Sniper Training(+10)

Fully skilled, it would be more accurate than either of the other firearms, however due to it's less efficient ammo, it would be used mainly as a backup, to finish off a target if you are running out of AP, rather than a main gun(unless someone really likes snipers).

Also, some say sniper rifles aren't in genre; i disagree with this. The Zombie Survival guide, pretty much THE most respected zombie literature, advises rifle fire in any section about combat. In this one resident Evil movie(I forget which one) there's the S.T.A.R.S. dude on top of the building sniping zombies. There are probably a lot more, but I can't remember any right now. So start voting I guess.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author Keep--Corndoghero 01:29, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep- At last, a decent rifle suggestion! --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 01:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep - WAAH BOO HOO WE DON'T NEED MOAR RIFLES!! Shut up, you assrapists. If other games can pull off multi-weapon games without everyone bitching, then we should, too. Anyway, decent rifle.Glenstone 04:29, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep - MOAR WEPONS! --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 06:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep - WOOHOO! A great and balanced new weapon! Look out zombies, I'm packing heat!--Waterspark2 08:15 27 November 2007 (EST)
  6. Keep - The more weapons we have the more the game is interesting. I don't like the fact that it deals only 5 damage...it's the same as pistol...it would be more realistic if it was somewhwere half-the-way between pistol's and shotgun's damage. But this is a minor flaw, that can be easily corrected, so I vote Keep , as having something with long barrel and more than 2 shots would be very nice.--James beckerson 14:16, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - But with a minor change: call the top-level rifle skill something else (maybe "Marksmanship"). --Sgt. John TaggartUNIT 11/5 WCDZ TJ! 19:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - Meh, it needs the help and I don't really care either way. --Howard Bentley 21:51, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Weak Keep - Rifles are cool, but please try not to compare Urban Dead with Resident Evil movies, as this will probably lead to more spam votes. Especially since the RE Movies were more action-flick than horror-fest. Another reason for the "weak" part of the keep is that while everything in the kill section and spam section are true, I don't believe rifles would nerf survivors too much, seeing as people would probably spend their time on finding shotguns and pistols more often, regardless of the addition. --Private Mark 23:50, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep - Looks balanced. Would be reasonable if introduced with comparable zombie buff. --Heretic144 00:05, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I realize that it is instinct to hit 'Spam' or 'Kill' whenever you see a suggestions for a new gun. But read it, and consider. Our game is not so delicately balanced as to not be able to uphold another gun.--The Trichloroethane Potato SGP E! RQ! Winner 1! 00:12, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep, maybe - maybe, but aren't rifles supposed to be powerful and accurate, more effective if they could go through flak jackets like they do in real lifeAnti gorefest5 TalkMEMSBS --anti gorefest5 02:09, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep Definably one of the better ones, and I think Anti Gorefest has something there, to set it aside from the pistol and make it worth the encumbrance % have it be able to inflict max damage to those wearing flak jackets.User: J. inman 11:50 est 27 Nov

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - new weapons not needed, and i agree with grimch on the talk, can only boost players or hurt newbies.--Zach016 01:48, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Urban Dead is not Resident Evil. Please stop trying to make it so.--Cap'n Silly T/W/P/CAussieflag.JPG 06:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. This still just seems like a pistol with greater accuracy. The semantics of the weight and ammo seem trivial and almost irrelevant. What makes this really unique? Different enough to include?--Pesatyel 06:58, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill -- If that rifle gets implemented, i'l do suicide with it.--  Savant  Chit-Chat  07:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Adding another weapon in gun stores etc unbalances the game as it means there are more weapons to be found.Studoku 14:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill But only bearly. The main balancer and turn-off is the high encumberance. I'll take my 10 pistols and 5 shotguns over this, thanks. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 05:02, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - The problem is not that it's a rifle. The problem is that additional weapons are largely unneeded. Ok, it's a little bit more accurate, but it would dilute my searches for pistols/pistol ammo, and take up space in my inventory. --Steakfish 01:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spupe of everything - Rifle/Sniper rifle/assault rifle have been suggested countless times. Enough, please! --  AHLGTG THE END IS ACTUALLY NIGH! 01:40, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Dupe Many many many rifle suggestions before this one mate. You'd have a better chance of getting ninja centaurs into PR.--SeventythreeTalk 01:43, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Ridiculously overpowered.--Karekmaps?! 01:44, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spupe - duped many times over, spam for a number of reasons - Steakfish's concern being just one. --Pavluk A! E! 01:45, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. 2 - The second Resident Evil movie. Which was wrong, btw. There was only about 12 stars in the game, but 22 in the movie. Oh, and this is a dupe. doc crook 03:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Spam - nothing significant here --~~~~ [talk] 07:07, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Spam - Ignoring the flavour, it's just a slightly more accurate pistol with slightly less shots per clip. I fail to see how it is better than the numerous other rifle suggestions. --Nikitis 09:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. I just saw "Sniper Training" and I decided to autospam this. --Axe Hack Talk 10:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Cackapoopoo no more guns required. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 11:00, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Spam - Ive said it before, and ill say it again. Adding a new firearm to the game results in one of two things happening: A net survivor buff, or a newbie survivor nerf. How? It all comes down to find rates. If you simply put a new weapon and ammunition on top of the existing find rates, you increase survivor power because they can find weapons and ammunition more easily, which makes them overall more powerful as they dont need to search as much to find ammunition and weaponry, especially if they have all the gun skills, which will happen sooner, rather than later. On the other hand, if you reduce the find rates for everything else gunlike, you nerf newbies who will have a harder time finding weapons and ammunition that meet their specific skill set. Also, overall, you nerf those weapons pretty hard too for everyone, since ammunition is harder to find. There is no way to impliment any new firearm without doing either of the previous, and cockup the pretty good balance for guns in the game. It simply cannot be done. --The Grimch U! E! 12. Spaminate! - I guess I will have to put a suggestion one day that anyone putting a suggestion that concerns rifles will be auto-perma-banned for trolling. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 13:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

  16. Spam Increases find rates of guns and ammo for survivors- therefore it is a survivor buff in an in-game situation that doesn't need it. --Karlsbad 05:12, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
