20080806 Display Idle Flag
JaredTalk Aces C-Kids 23:17, 6 August 2008 (BST)
Suggestion type
Interface change.
Suggestion scope
Everyone who views profiles.
Suggestion description
I've noticed that many people have links to their in-game characters and profiles on the wiki, Brainstock, group forums, the Rogues Gallery, and so on. Many times, I would like to know whether that character is still active or not. Therefore, I suggest that a flag be added to the profile of any character who has "idled out" from the game (that is, not logged in for 5 days or more.)
This flag would be either:
1. a section added to their description, reading something along the lines of "This player has not been seen in the city for quite a while;" or
2. under the profile messages that display kills, level, XP, creation time, et cetera, a simple section with "Idle Status: Yes" or "Idle Status: No."
The benefits from this would be that users would know whether the player they've just run across on Brainstock is active; whether the PKer whose territory is their suburb is still around; whether the leader of a wiki group that has been put up for deletion is still playing the game. I realize that this is not a perfect system (i.e. vacations and such could give a false-positive idle; see Swiers' comments on the talk page), but I think it would be helpful to have this information as a rough estimate.

Keep Votes
- Keep - Can't see any harm to it -- Necrodeus T M! 23:19, 6 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - This information is already available; you can tell if CONTACTS (only) are idle by looking at you contacts list. And in fact, its not "characters" who would get the information; you do not need to be playing (or even have) a character to view profiles, nor would your character ever see an idle character- which really, resticts the utility of this to "profile browsing", such as when hunting for zergs on http://www.urbandead.info/profiles . Swiers 23:41, 6 August 2008 (BST)
- KEEP - Easy to see if they can heal you or not...But what if its a pker waiting as a trap for some unsupecting low level to walk in and...BAM! lol good suggestion good good--Blahd 00:19, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- keep As it stands, if you add someone to your contacts, you can see if they're idled or not. You ought not to have to go through this step -- just give us a note or something on the profile. That change to the interface is why this is not a dupe of the in-game effect. --WanYao 03:01, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- This suggestion is better than whacking off! Keep Ioncannon11 03:39, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep But have a selection in settings to put a flag for Holiday mode on. And wether to have it on your profile Rorybob 09:55, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Re: What do you mean, "whether to have it on your profile?" This would be on the profile already. Or do you mean being able to switch it on and off? I frankly don't see the use of that, and besides, if people are just going to switch it off, then there's no real point in having it. --JaredTalk Aces C-Kids 17:46, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - don't like the holiday mode suggested above me btw.--xoxo 14:03, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - My contacts are almost always full and I can't spare the room to check if someone is active or not. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 17:37, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Both MIA and idle seem fine cut-off points to me. --Toejam 21:07, 7 August 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes
- Kill - Already ingame, if you can't be asked to add them to your contacts you don't deserve to get the information.--Karekmaps?! 03:14, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Kill/Change - Too much information. Idle != MIA. You don't get to know this even if you have them in your contacts, so why would you get the information from having just their profile? Just show their MIA-status directly in their profile, that's enough. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 09:50, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As Karek. Billy Club Thorton T! RR 18:43, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As above. If you don't know the person to begin with, then you can't possibly know whether or not they're still around... --Private Mark 21:14, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Agreeing with Karek. --Karec 23:31, 9 August 2008 (BST)
- KILL As Kaaaaaaaaarek. You survivors are a bunch of lazy asses. no wonder you can't metagame worth a shit. -- #99 DCC SNACK STRONG 08:49, 11 August 2008 (BST)
- Kill - this isn't MySpace, you don't need 100+ friends and to know when they were last logged in.--– Nubis NWO 07:20, 14 August 2008 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam (until I find the Dupe). For role-play reasons, I don't think a character should have access to omnipotent information (any more than they already do by being able to see skills and so on). --Funt Solo QT 23:21, 6 August 2008 (BST) Note - some people might consider the Peer Reviewed Show Idle Characters suggestion to be close enough for a Dupe, although it is limited only to contacts. I'm sticking with spam. (From what Swiers said in his vote, that's already a Dupe of in-game, which I didn't know until now.) --Funt Solo QT 23:44, 6 August 2008 (BST)
- Dupe I've seen contacts of mine go idle. It's already in the game and something like it has been suggested before.--Janine 02:20, 7 August 2008 (BST)
- Spam/Dupe – Of ingame: the existing MIA mechanic allows this for contacts who have been idle for a month or more. I don't believe it needs to be any easier than this. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 11:07, 8 August 2008 (BST)
- Dupe of ingame. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 15:56, 8 August 2008 (BST)
- Spam - Already in game, close enough anyway. --Ocular Druuuuu 05:33, 12 August 2008 (BST)
