The name of the suburb is shrouded in mystery, layered in legend, enveloped in enigma and then deep-fried and slathered in supposition. The most popular belief is that it is named after an ancient legendary giant so huge he was known simply as Great Big, or 'Grigg' for short. Awakened from a hundred-year-long nap by the increasingly noisy little town of Malton, the giant resolved to destroy it by casting huge boulders at the burgeoning borough. The removal of these boulders left the valley that is now found running through the neighbouring burbs of [[Owsleybank]], [[Molebank]] and [[Reganbank]]. However, the exertion proved too great even for Grigg, who succumbed to a ruptured hernia and fell dead on the edge of the city. These attributes can still be seen in the ruins of Grigg Heights by what is left of the three jazz clubs in the south of the suburb ([[Club Whittem]], [[Club Whittard]] and [[Club Allerston]]), as well as its museums [[the Linnett Museum]], [[the Wriford Museum]], and [[the Timmins Building]] which was built for the purpose of displaying the various varieties of art to be found here.
