Welcome to Linkthewindow's talk page!
The Rules: | Please use proper spelling and grammar when editing. I know a lot of you can't spell, but please no chatspeak, lolspeak, or leetspeak. Of course, being my page, I reserve the right to delete a comment, but I hope never to do that. I will only delete spam. Also remember to sign your posts-it saves a lot of time. |
To Post: | Ether click here or click the big + at the top of the page. Keeps it nice and ordered. Or, just post all new stuff at the bottom. If you post something in the wrong spot, then it will be moved without the post being modified. |
Misc: | Archives are here. I'll usually respond here, but if it's urgent I'll respond on your talk page as well. If you followed a redirect from another one of my pages, please state that page before commenting. Please use the chatbox for shorter messages (located to your right.) I can also be contacted by the email user function, although you'll get a faster response here. |
If you are looking for a quick reply, I'm usually active or lurking between about 17:00 - 21:00 AEST (7:00 - 13:00 GMT, same day,) most of the day on weekends.

I had a question.
Well this User:Grimblackreeper has a talk page, but no user page. It was recently made, I think February, and there's no log of deletion for the User Page. Here is the page I stumbled on, and I was wondering what to do with it, put it up for speedy delete, or what cause of action should be followed?
Oh and another question, do you know how to configure an auto update for the UDTool? I'm really stumped and can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated Link, thanks. -- Denver 5MoC 06:39, 7 April 2009 (BST)
- As for the user talk page, it doesn't really matter. Quite a few users have a {{WN}} posted on their user talk page, even when they don't have a user page. So, just leave it for now :).
- I've done autoupdatable lists before. They aren't easy to do, but if you've got a large group, then they will save you some time.
- You could try having a look at the zerg list (I stole my code of them,) and trying to figure it out that way.
- I don't really have the time now for a detailed guide, but if you've got any specific questions, fire away. Linkthewindow Talk 10:21, 7 April 2009 (BST)
- Yeah, I can't really think of any I'm just hammering away at it. Oh, I can't seem to get the Text Rapist auto update to work on the FANNY/Ignore List. I already have the zerg liste auto update, but the ignore list isn't working for me. Does it work for you?
- On a side note, I saw that you did the wiki info on Kevan's April Fools joke, do you need more screen shots of different location? Since I was in a Train Station and I took and iwitness here. Completely random, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. -- Denver 5MoC 17:19, 8 April 2009 (BST)
- The Ignore List doesn't have an autoupdater, but it doesn't usually get updated the amount the Zerg Liste does.
- Oh, and I'll throw that on the April Fools page when I'm less tired. It would be nice to have one from each location. Linkthewindow Talk 08:24, 9 April 2009 (BST)
- Yes it does at, the bottom underneath the "UDTool List" heading it says,"To have UDTool automatically update this list, include the following code in your UDTool list" and then it gives you a code, which I can't seem for the life of me to get to work. I just have it all working manually, I think I'm gonna keep it that way for now. :P -- Denver 5MoC 16:19, 9 April 2009 (BST)
Entirely off topic, I hope you don't mind Link. But I couldn't help stalking the RC and notice that this fellow has attempted to use a derivative of my name. D:< -- THELORDGUNSLINGER 07:17, 24 June 2009 (BST)

New User Template
You probably don't like other people putting these headings on your thing, but I thought it was necessary... Anyway, I wanted to know if my template for new users [[1]] could be added to the help section. I think it could. New users would be able to right away use this stuff to create their own custom page, and that may entice them to be more active. --The Shoemaker Talk Red Faction 00:38, 9 April 2009 (BST)

'Outing' you
So far my post has been removed, I've been reported for vandalism (which nobody bothered to tell me about), I've been warned and now the warning has been retracted. My question is did you interpret it as a joke, which was how it was intended, and if so do you have any issue if I undo the removal? (with a small alteration to ensure people realise who this is directed at and that it is indeed a joke) --Roorgh 18:03, 29 April 2009 (BST)
- Link always knew it was a joke... But no one else did. We (including me) thought it was purely aimed at Callista, and no, you can't put it back up, Boxy said on your case that you shouldn't pretend to give out personal details either. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 13:42, 1 May 2009 (BST)
- Yeah (sorry for the late reply, I seem to have forgotten about this.) Anyway, yeah, I knew it was a joke. I laughed at the stupidity of it. But DDR's right, for those that don't know me (it's common knowledge that I'm Australian,) it could be seen as serious, and since people seem to think it was aimed at Cali (especially considering post-Twitter thing,) it's a bit too far, and crosses the line. Personal information is something that one should be very careful about revealing - even as a joke. Linkthewindow Talk 13:45, 1 May 2009 (BST)

- It's a scheduled deletion (vote) which means that sysops can delete the page out-of-hand without having to go to deletions or speedy deletions. Basically - around the turn of last year, there was a whole heap of drama over user page redirects. The Wiki can be like that some times. Linkthewindow Talk 13:39, 25 May 2009 (BST)

Redundant Disclaimer
I've been looking at my archived promotion bid here, and the disclaimer bothers me.
It asks that the page not be edited, yet surely the fact that these bids are Protected from editing shortly after being created (and thus, impossible to be edited by anyone other than SysOps) shows that this disclaimer is not overly necessary.
As the SysOps are the only ones with the power, wouldn't it make more sense to warn them during the archival process? Granted, the disclaimer in its current state does not harm the wiki in any way, however anything which makes the matter clearer wouldn't hurt either, and would be an improvement.
If there is any reason why the disclaimer is the way that it is that I may have missed, then I would be glad to hear it. I'm just wondering why the page warns against doing something that is impossible.
I was thinking about taking this to Policy Discussion, but I thought I'd ask a current SysOp and see if I can get some answers before I pursue the 'official' path of inquiry. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 11:31, 19 June 2009 (BST)
- I've got no idea - it was created before the history purge - it's old, and perhaps predates when sysops realize that they could protect things?
- Ether way, there can occasionally be quite a gap between the actual archiving of the page (often done by a regular user,) and the protection (done when a sysop realizes it needs protection.) That's probably why the template is worded the way it is. Linkthewindow Talk 11:35, 19 June 2009 (BST)
- I may be off the mark cause I've had a few beers, but firstly, as Link. Secondly, Sysop's don't need to be warned not to edit protected archives because its common knowledge, knowledge that a sysop would have to know, had they made the position. Even the dumbest sysop would know that protected archives are done so for a reason. No point making a template for a public archive warning sysops not to protect it, and on one else. Just last week I went and protected archives arbitration cases from 2 or 3 years ago that sysops hadn't protected. Just an example of how things can be missed. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 13:56, 19 June 2009 (BST)
Oh, OK then. I just bugged me, as all. I wasn't aware regular users were permitted to archive promotion bids. I thought that, being an admin page, that SysOps were only permitted to do it. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 01:28, 20 June 2009 (BST)
RE: Edit to the Danger Building page
Allow me to thank you for the welcome and I can assure you that these danger reports will serve their purpose in time with a helpful project that I am in the mere first stages of (well more of a prototype than a project).
In response to your initial question, there are two reasons that I removed the information:
- Firstly, was that the group Black Mesa has not existed on the wiki for sometime.
- Secondly and most importantly,I was under the impression that UDWiki:Location Style Guide was applicable for all location pages.
I understand your concerns and respect your authority on these matters, however, I would like a second opinion on this subject or a link to a page that supports what you have previously stated. This request is not made from any contempt for you or the rules, it is just that I am now confused with local editing practices. I will gladly halt the editing of the Urban Dead wiki until this matter is clarified (so as not to make the same mistake twice).--Matthew Kuper 15:20, 20 June 2009 (BST)
- I see your points. But, what if a two groups are trying to claim the same location as their own? Or, a groups location page conflicts with role play flavor of that location (i.e. The Danger Family). Are group locations first come first serve or a messy free-for-all? I guess I have questions of group/location legitimacy issues rather than humor issues (of which I completely understand).
- Perhaps an easy solution would be to create The Danger Family as trenchies.
- I would like to thank you for all your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matthew Kuper (talk • contribs) at an unknown time.

- A decent alternative would be to just shorten some headers, particularly the "Moved from User:Linkthewindow/Chatbox/Messages" one, as you can see the same applies to my page, but I'm trying to find a way to work around it without being called a vandal, as the longer headers are generally most of the comments.
