20071108 Suitcase

Jon Pyre 17:55, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Item

Suggestion scope
Railroad Stations

Suggestion description
Sometimes I like to change clothes for different events. But if you want to doff your hard to find X Mall Shirt or jewelry it can be a real pain going across the whole city to find it again.

I suggest adding a suitcase item, findable in railroad stations. It would have an encumbrance of 5%, but if you're carrying one there would be a seperate suitcase section of your inventory below everything else, containing 5 garments. Every additional suitcase you hold lets you carry 5 additional garments. You would be able to wear any garments you carry, and if you replace a worn item with something from a suitcase, it would switch places and enter the suitcase.

If you drop a briefcase the last five garments in your inventory are lost.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Unnecessary, yes. Flavorful, yes. This might not get implemented since Kevan has important things to do but this would be a fun addition if possible. --Jon Pyre 17:58, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Weak Keep -At first I thought "Eh", but I can see your point. I'm not sure it's priority, either, but we'll see.--Kolechovski 18:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep - Go for it. can't think of why not.--SeventythreeTalk 18:42, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep - yeah i like the idea, some times you need clothes for a party and some times for killing :) --Skyvia 18:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep - Sure, whatever.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 19:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Weak Keep/Change - I think it would be better to allow only 1 suitcase per character, which could contain exactly 1 of each article of clothing (1 coat, 1 shirt, 1 neckwear, 1 pair of shoes, etc.). See my further ideas on the talk page. --Steakfish 19:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Sure, whatever.-- BoboTalkClown 20:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep- Suitcase? Why not? Not a utilitarian addition, but it's certainly a boon to the RPing aspect of this game. -- AfroFireman 20:26, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep - very well. --Pavluk A! E! 20:38, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep - meh.--'BPTmz 20:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep I don't see any real problems--Zach016 20:46, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - Awesome, something for my characters who carry heaps of stuff and don't do much else other than maintenance. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 22:05, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep -A perfect suggestion. I would like to have a suitcase in game. --MikhailA 22:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

  18. Weak keep - Why not?Studoku 00:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  19. Keep - Fun, should be implemented as a side project, along with various other things. I was also wondering... could suitcases be used as a "weapon" without actually doing any damage? (or doing miniscule damage). I would find it funny if a survivor, in near desperation (or out of mockery, whichever comes first) smacks a zombie in the head with a suitcase, humor in the style of Shaun of the Dead. --Private Mark 00:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re It'd be pretty funny if a suitcase also served as a low accuracy 1 damage weapon. --Jon Pyre 14:59, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  20. Keep - Interesting, yet I think suitcases should also be found in hotel/motels. --Z. slay3r Talk  00:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Good point! That's so obvious, how could I forget them! --Jon Pyre 00:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

  23. Keep - Neat idea. Making a good interface for it for the browser may be tricky, but ... --Pgunn 04:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  24. Keep I don't think you've made a suggestion I've hated yet, Pyre... This one adds another to the list... ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 04:28, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  25. Keep good suggestions coming. - Pardus 16:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  26. Keep - I'm still bitter about giving up my party hat. --Howard Bentley 18:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
  27. Keep!!! - Yet another great suggestion from Jon Pyre. I personally go through several pairs of sunglasses in a week (zombie blood is unhygenic), and I wouldn't mind being able to carry some extras. Ditto for my camo clothes. --Hhal 19:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
  28. I need something to change into when my clothes get bloody... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
  29. Keep - Great idea, i would use one--Rictor Stilwell 20:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
  30. Keep - i dont want to find a mansion every time i need a new tuxido --Death7 23:58, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Part of the fun is having to find the clothes that you want to wear. Otherwise, there is nothing to it really. --Ryiis 18:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re You still have to find each item initially. This just allows quick costume changes. --Jon Pyre 19:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
      • Re That's part of my point - after you have gathered the "costumes", there is no need to find them again. Part of the fun, and the game, is to search out these clothes as you need them. --Ryiis 19:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Discourages movement. Sockem 20:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Yet another pointless suggestion for survivors to waste AP and encumbrance on. FFS, enough already with the clothes -- boxytalk • 01:55 9 November 2007 (BST)
Kill - No. Pointless. And, ditto what the other kill/spam voters have said. --WanYao 12:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC) Vote changed.
  4. Zombie apocalypse... Whitehouse 14:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - While I seriously want to vote Keep on this one because I love the flavor, Ryiis makes an excellent point, as does WanYao below. The search is half the fun (although I would have loved to fill a suitcase with Halloween masks last week!)--Actingupagain 16:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. kill - zombie apocalypse. And i believe there was a rule that limited the number of suggestions anyone could create per day. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 18:43, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re I believe I haven't made more than 1 per day...? --Jon Pyre 14:58, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. kill The man 20:26, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill This could cause confusion with newer and existing players- as they might expect it to hold items. I'm afraid you'll just have to make do with the clothes you're wearing, though I agree some sort of wardrobe might be nice, I don't think this is the way to go about it. Perhaps something external to your inventory. Boojamon 11:23, 17 November 2007 (GMT)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - pointless expansion of the current (pointless) system. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 18:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
ZOMG Non Author Comment: The whole game is pointles... -- SgtBop 21:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC) Non Author RE.--Karekmaps?! 00:28, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Not as pointless as you. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 22:21, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - Suggesting something because you're lazy is spamming suggestions, especially when survivors already have a 1 up on non-survivors because they can actually change their clothes, don't buff their flavor more so they can do less work and spend less AP.--Karekmaps?! 03:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Spam - As per my striken KILL vote, above. Additionally, and why it is SPAM... This is both silly and totally out of genre, who in their right mind is going to lug around a freakin suitcase and week's change of wardrobe in a bloody zombie invasion!?!?? i mean part of WHOLE POINT of there being damage (torn, blood-soaked, etc.) to clothing is to reflect the desperation of the scenario and to force you to WORK to get new clothes if it matters to you, i.e. suggestion runs contrary to spirit and design mechanics of the game. --WanYao 12:28, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Although now some of the characters have been living in a zombie invasion for years. Not day 1 of the outbreak. My character has taken the time to learn surgery, I think he's had time to get a spare pair of pants. --Jon Pyre 14:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - So far out of the genre you cant see it for the expansion of space between (You need to understand the concept to get it, if you dont, just nod your head and go on). Lugging suitcases around in a zombie apocalypse is stupid, but possible, provided they lugged something useful (Do not suggest that, its spamworthy as well as it breaks game balance), but lugging around a half dozen full of clothes? Utter nonsense. I would have described this as unbelievably stupid but for the fact that its Jon Pyre making it, in which case it is merely par for the course. --The Grimch U! E!
--Jon Pyre 23:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
You think posting your re in another language will stop me flaming you? Think again. Books are light, an escape, it is quite easy to see a guy running with a book, and reading it when time get hard. Alcohol is an escape, under the strain many people would turn to the booze to dull it out of their mind. However, people going and saying things like "Oh, these clothes are just so me, what to wear, what to wear" and/or dragging suitcases of clothing around with them would be silly in the extreme. Far more realistically, people would make do with what they are wearing, only changing when they scavenge something new wherever they presently are when their existing clothes become either too befouled or too damaged to wear any longer, they wount log a dozen suitcases full of useless crap around. In a zombie apocalypse people would be pragmatic, not stupid. This suggestion is just retarded in the extreme, another example of a dumb idea bypassing the miniscule and highly atrophied higher sections of your brain enroute from creation to posting. THINK BEFORE YOU POST. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 03:51, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spam - This is dumb. There's almost always a church/hospital/etc within 10 blocks to get your fancy clothes from. --Druuuuu 21:36, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. SPAM as Grim and Wan Yao but without the insults! clothing has no encumberance because it is worn... carried it is fairly heavy so you just would not struggle about with more than the minimum! If each extra item cost 5% encumberance then fine, maybe but I doubt anyone would carry extra except maybe the odd holiday special. This just makes no sense if we want a beleivable apocalypse! --Honestmistake 15:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Spam - I already thought that changing clothes constantly in a zombie apocalypse made us look silly, but now... And Jon: No destroces mi lengua nativa. Gracias. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 13:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
