20080201 Validation Code

Blanemcc 16:46, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Miscellaneous

Suggestion scope
All Players.

Suggestion description
Right now, there is still a high amount of players using cheat bots to access the game with alts so that they can co-ordinate their actions. This suggestion is a way to stop the bots from logging in. By adding a validation code page prior to the "city" page, players would have to manually input the validation code so that they can proceed to the game. This is to prevent botting within Urbandead.

Note: The code only needs to be input once when logging in. It would only comprise of 3-4 mixed digits and letters.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Author keep. --Blanemcc 16:50, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - We need to stop the robots, they are not to be trusted! --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 16:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep -Kill all robots.Studoku 20:32, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - A minor inconvienience, but I think it would be beneficial in the long run. --Hhal 21:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Keep Probably would help. ----Secruss|Yak|Brahnz!|CGR|PKA|800px-Flag of the United States.svg.png|EMLN|Templates|RRF|RFTM|Crap|WHOZ|Evil3.gif|MU|GN|C2008|Chippy.gif|22:27, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep As Hhal --FrozenFlame 00:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Weak Keep - Although I agree something needs to be done, and this does work on some games, it would screw up some UD features. I recommend modifying the way this would work to allow those features to be uncorrupted, and then you'd have my full keep.--Kolechovski 23:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Annoying. And I doubt this would do much good anyway. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. i don't see how protected login page prevents bots from playing the game. puppet master would just log them in manually --~~~~ [talk] 17:41, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Figure out how to do it in a way that is not annoying. --PdeqTalk* 17:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - As often as I check in, this sounds like a major hassle. - Headshot Hal 18:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Umm...ok, I don't really see any evidence of your thesis, and this would be irritating.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  18:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill - This won't do anything except force zergers to take an extra few seconds to log into their alts. --Private Mark 18:59, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Zergers may find this annoying at first, but when they get use to it, they wouldn't mind spending some time to log in. But...if they did spend that "time" logging in, it would show that they have no life. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 19:45, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Kill Can u say 'annoying ? HeroSV Incorrectly signed vote struck (no timestamp). --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:35, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill – I've played other online games which have found it necessary to use this kind of system, and yes, they are annoying. Ultimately, I view this as one of a number of measures that Kevan may or may not implement if there is a significant enough problem with zergers that existing measures do not counter. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 22:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill – Hell no. I hate annoying captchas. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 01:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill – I don't mind bots- the AP limit takes care of that problem. BoboTalkClown 03:26, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - Horribly annoying and if they can write a bot they can probably work around those.--Karekmaps?! 05:10, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  12. Weak Kill - I think it's good to beat the zergers, but this is not the way to do it. It's a burden for the nice players, and simply a minor slow-down for the zergers who reap the benefits of zerging. The currently in-place measures take care of the zerging bit nicely, as well as the IP hit counter.-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  13:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  13. Kill - I haven't had to log in for years, because I never log out. --Themanwhocares4 14:17, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  14. Kill - GOD NO --Druuuuu OcTRR 17:10, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  15. Kill - I hate bots, regardless of whether they are ?risebots or barricade bots, but inconveniencing every single player in the game to prevent the immoral acts of a few is not the way to go. To win my 'Keep' vote, find something that will fuck with both the bots and automated tools like DEMON. Manage that and I will picket Kevan's house with you. --Papa Moloch 18:17, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  16. Kill I think bots are a mostly non-existent bogeyman. --Jon Pyre 18:28, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  17. Kill As Pyre, Karek, Axe Hack, and- Hell- even Hierophant ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 05:57, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
  18. Kill - As above -- boxy talki 09:25 3 February 2008 (BST)
  19. Kill - As above. Also, this would mess up the UDToolbar and I don't want that. --Vandurn 19:51, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
  20. Kill - Some sites have validation codes that you can actually read, and others it's nigh impossible to discern. It doesn't help that they don't tell you if capitalization matters or not. At the very least typing in extra crap every time I play would be annoying. Besides, I've got my characters bookmarked so that I don't have to use the keyboard at all to start playing, and this would interfere with that. --Ms.Panes 05:19, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
  21. Kill - This annoys me... UCFSD 14:13, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
  22. Kill - as above... and it's annoying.----SexualharrisonStarofdavid2.png Boobs.gif 05:32, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
  23. Kill - The spirit of what you suggest is just fine. I just doubt that it will really accomplish anything in the long run other than slowing down everyone. As also mentioned above this could complicate bookmarking characters in favourites lists. --MagnificentX 23:51, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
