20071109 Label Maker
Jon Pyre 15:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion type
Item
Suggestion scope
Generators and transmitters
Suggestion description
A little way of claiming credit. The label maker would be a rare item that lasts a long time, perhaps 15-20 uses, encumbrance 2%, found at 1% in mall stores (formerly used to mark gifts), schools (textbooks), and libraries (books in general).
Label makers would work a little like spray cans in that they'd create a new text field to enter a message, but they'd also create a drop down menu allowing you to select only generators and transmitters in your inventory.
Only a short message could be written but it would allow groups to claim credit for their maintenance. For example:
A portable generator has been set up here, labeled from C4NT. It is running.
or individual credit
labeled thank Jon Pyre.
or useful information
A radio transmitter has been set up here, labeled keep on 26.88.
or words of encouragement
labeled Bale forever!
If there was an offensive or libelous message the label can be removed without destroying the machine by attacking the object until it is badly damaged. This dislodges the label. Then it can be repaired label free.
You can only label a generator or radio when it is in your inventory so only the person who sets the object gets to label it.
This would be a nice way of claiming credit for your machine, and also serves as an added incentive to place devices. Anyone can spraypaint over a message on the wall. You have to find and set a machine to display a label. This is more appropriate for messages specifically about the item. And they're pretty short messages so spam shouldn't be an issue.

- Re I think adding six short words to the screen between a generator and transmitter aren't spammy, and far more useful than "a stuffed lion head, a cubist painting, etc...", not that I dislike art. --Jon Pyre 18:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's not about how useful it is. There's quite a lot of info at the moment onscreen, and this suggestion has some uses, however to add more info to an already crowded page the Info's gonna have to be a lot more useful than this.--SeventythreeTalk 18:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - So, I can only remove a label by attacking it with a weapon? Not by peeling it off? Jebus H Bonkers - I told you to lay off the spiked punch. Also - another method of comms - again - from you - again. Radio, speech, graffiti, billboards, phones - it's never enough, eh?. --Funt Solo QT 16:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Re This takes advantage of existing game controls rather than introducing a whole new "peel" button. Also...some of those labelmakers can be pretty damn sticky. It might take a few scratches from an axe or zombie claw to pull one off. But the real reason is that someone's label shouldn't get yanked off for 1AP by any randomly malicious person. And seeing that we started with just speech and non-functional phones, and improving things to the current multitude of communication systems worked pretty well I say the more the merrier. This kind of stuff makes UD interesting. Note that I support zombie communication skills too, in fact I have a feeding groan improvement suggestion up for voting right now. --Jon Pyre 16:26, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Spam - Yet another way for retards to spam shit like STREETS IS WATCHIN... Also, humans do not need more ways to communicate. Also, all the objections Funt made. Also, adding a peel buttin would not be difficult in the slightest. All kevan would have to do is alter the zombies smash decoration code to remove the label instead of a decoration, and be usable by humans instead of zombies, both of which are rather minor. The framework already exists, and anyway, using the perception of sloth on the part of the creator as an excuse to justify your own sloppy thinking is just plain bad. Lay off the suggestions page, please. You do nothing but spam it up with idea after idea after idea, often without any thought as to how exactly the suggestion would affect the game. Instead take the time and put some thought into your ideas. Spend a week on them, or maybe you could go do something else, such as get laid (Though i could understand how that might be difficult if you are in bed as you are here, cosntantly making stupid suggestions). And stop RE'ing everything. It wont change our votes and makes you look like an even bigger dick. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 17:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Re /goes to girlfriend, describes awesome suggestion to improve Urban Dead. girlfriend responds "What the hell's Urban Dead?"
- Grim, I spend less time making suggestions than you do superfluously criticizing them. My "spam" has resulted in quite a few implemented game features, include feeding groans, radios, and oodles more. I think you could cut me some slack if you don't agree with every or even most suggestions or even 99.9% of suggestions I make. Anyway, concerning the part of your vote that isn't spam, which could have ironically been stated in 3 short sentences instead of your spammy book: while a peel button could exist, I think it A) Makes it too easy to remove labels B) Adds a seldom used button to the interface. C) Is fine if you just have to attack it. For that matter why do you have to attack generators to destroy them? Why not just pick em up and chuck em out the window? Perhaps Kevan should introduce a "Chuck Generator Out Window Button" along with "Peel". Nice sexual insult there against a stranger on the internet though, your e-peen should be erect with pride. --Jon Pyre 17:44, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Regarding your suggestions: Half of those things would have been put in anyway. There are two ways to make good suggestions. One way is by careful consideration and thought on the matter, before posting the suggestion (My method, which explains why i have a 70% Peer reviewed rate, 78% if you discount the joke suggestion i made a year ago), and there is the brute force accidental method, which you practice which explains why you have, at best, maybe a 5% peer reviewed rate (And thats me being highly optomistic). Face it you have only ever made good suggestions by accident, but they are by far the exception, rather than the rule. Use your fucking head before you post something. Please. Three words: THINK. THINGS. THROUGH. Another 3 words: STOP. POSTING. CRAP. And i cut no one any slack. Why should i start with a moron such as yourself? Also, it wasnt an insult you unevolved example of proto-hominid, it was a joke. And stop fucking edit conflicting me. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 17:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

- Spam- I do not want all this new shit clogging up my screen, just because this label maker is rare it does not justify having it in the game and despite anything you can say it WILL add useless clutter that no one gives a shit about. I have noticed that you post a lot of suggestions which is commendable but you may want to consider whether you are producing good quality suggestions because this one is a pretty bad idea.-- BKM 18:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
