20071215 The Purpose of Clothes (Fixed)

Jon Pyre 23:26, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Flavor

Suggestion scope
Clothes

Suggestion description
To increase the role of clothes as a flavor item I suggest that when you see a zombie or survivor in an alert message that does not provide a profile link it gives you up to three items of clothes they're wearing, like so:

QuentinTarantino killed a zombie wearing a plaid jacket, brown slacks, and a derby hat.

Anything in the jacket slot or pants slot always takes priority though, so if someone has a coat and a dress on, that'll be displayed for sure. The third is a random detail you notice, hat, jewelry, shoes, etc.

To see these items of clothing you would have to check a box in your profile settings to OPT IN. That way if you want the flavor of seeing what people are wearing you can. Otherwise everything will stay exactly as is without you having to do anything.

This would be pretty flavorful. Rather than every zombie you see in an action just being "a zombie" zombies could rolelaying by dressing as a scientist, a businessman, a cop, whatever they want. And this is all while preserving the anonymity of their profile link.

And to preserve space "tattered", "bloody", etc., is condensed to refer to multiple entries:

A zombie killed Phil, who wore a tattered bloodstained leather jacket and jeans.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Okay I'll go for it. I like it as a way of telling zombies apart. --GunFox13 23:57, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep As GunFox13. --Jon Pyre 00:19, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

  7. Keep Antiboredom flavor. --Heretic144 02:54, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. kep couldn't really care either way but to those that vote kill... you can toggl the ability to find items, should we remove them as pointless for that reason? --Honestmistake 03:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep- I like flavor. --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 04:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep Yes, I AM wearing a suit... ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 05:16, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I don't like identical zombies. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - A voter wearing blue jeans and a portal T-shirt voted keep.Studoku 11:18, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep - I really do not understand why some people are saying it will cause spam. It takes just as little effort to ignore long line as a short one --Gene Splicer 15:10, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Yeah, and it's opt in. If someone is that afraid of spam they can avoid it by doing literally nothing. --Jon Pyre 16:51, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Not too bad an improvement, I suppose. –Ariedartin Talk 17:12, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. Keep - Mh this one is alright...just got to be careful that we don´t litter the whole game with a flood of flavor additions. --the wallaby 18:14, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  16. Change - Just one flavor detail please. ----Secruss|Yak|Brahnz!|CGR|PKA|800px-Flag of the United States.svg.png|EMLN|Templates|RRF|RFTM|Crap|WHOZ|Evil3.gif|MU|GN|C2008|Chippy.gif|18:34, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Re True, one flavor detail could work fine too. Three is a flavor bonanza, but fewer might work. I think there should be a minimum of two though so you can see if someone is going for an outfit with multiple objects. --00:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Bring on the kilted zombies! --Uncle Bill 21:05, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  18. Keep - Polarized, a bit? =P BoboTalkClown 21:23, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  19. Keep - Adds a worthwhile amount of flavor for those who want it without any harm to gameplay for those who don't care for flavor/RP/etc. --Sirnickdon 22:54, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  20. Keep - Doesn't hurt anyone. --Howard Bentley 23:55, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  21. Keep - As heretic144 - antiboredom and veeeeryy flavourfull - zombies were humans too. The collapse of our society must be reflected in the appearance of what's left over from it.--James beckerson 11:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  22. Keep - I like flavor. This has a great amount of flavor. You got my vote, 10 out 10 in flavor! --Waterspark2 12:55 P.M., 17 December 2007 (EST)
  23. weak keep - i don't see this as significantly improving the game experience, but it does add something, yes. --WanYao 10:10, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
  24. Keep - As WanYao --Raynor16 23:03, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
  25. Keep - I really like this idea. Right now if 2 or more zombies are active in a building it's pretty dull seeing 'a zombie did this..a zombie did that.'--DI Sweeny 16:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  26. Keep - As (almost) everyone else. --LH779 05:39, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
  27. Keep - As so many above me. But only 1 item should be mentioned, like the shirt or coat, as it's the torso, hence biggest part. Acoustic Pie 20:40, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Meh The benifits of this are outwheighed by the spam and such that it would produce.--SeventythreeTalk 23:59, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Re What spam? It should all fit on the same line as the initial message. And it's optional. --Jon Pyre 00:19, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill/Change - How about one item and one item only. The harman equivilant to You maul Jon Pyre for 3 damage, and grab hold of their blood-soaked black scarf. They drop to 52 HP. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 17:06, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - as Gnome. And even then it might be annoying. --PdeqTalk* 11:01, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - More pointless suggestions for the sake of making suggestions. We dont need more spam, it it has to be opt in then it isnt worth doing. Far more effort to pull off than its worth in gameplay value (Draw a circle and you will know how much that value is). Please, give it a rest. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 23:29, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - as Eeevile Overlord Grim. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 23:34, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Don't suggest things you know suck, if it needs the option to turn it off it shouldn't be suggested in the first place.--Karekmaps?! 02:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Why? --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spam - as above --~~~~ [talk] 11:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Spam- No spam. -- BKM 17:45, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Spam- This is getting ridiculous. --Druuuuu OcTRR 18:47, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Spam As Grim. Omega 21:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Spam - A naked zombie killed naked Jon Pyre. Please don't makes optional things mandatory. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 09:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC) - Vote revoked. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 20:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Mandatory? How so? --Jon Pyre 16:37, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Spam - The cake is a lie --Ryiis 14:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. What part of optional don't you get? --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:07, 18 December 2007 (UTC) Damn...I need to stop reading the votes before the suggestions...Anyway...New reason. This may be stupid. I mean, if you want to see what they're wearing, just look in their profiles. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:09, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Re This would only apply to people you see in messages that don't supply a profile link. For example, when you see someone killed. --Jon Pyre 19:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
