20071212 Coffee
Heretic144 00:35, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion type
New Itemish
Suggestion scope
Survivors in need of caffeine
Suggestion description
In powered Mansions, Arms, Clubs, PDs, Banks, Malls, Hotels, and Hospitals, a new option would appear, labeled, "Work Espresso Machine".
Clicking it would cost 1 AP, provide flavor text, possibly providing different types of coffee drinks in different types of buildings.
Ex:
You pour a cup of dark, bitter Italian roast in a Bank. You pour a caramel Latte with whipped cream in a Mall.
An item, called a "Cup of Coffee" (Encumberance equal to a bottle of beer) would be added to your inventory. Using it would cost no AP, and the only effect would be that the next time you spend all your AP, you still have a normal screen displaying where you are and everything instead of the current "asleep" screen. This represents the caffeine coursing through your system. It would also allow you to view things happening even if you were at negative AP, from crafting a syringe or other multiple AP actions. The screen being there would still not allow you to perform actions, just view your surroundings.
As a note, making and using a cup of coffee as your last AP is rather pointless, since you spend you last AP to gain the effect of having not spend it, but it still has value if you save it for later.
Note to Tea drinkers Read "coffee" as "tea". The two are completely interchangeable for the purposes of this suggestion.

- Keep This should benefit role-players everywhere. Besides, we need something other than alcohol to drink. Perhaps it could heal 1 HP every time you drink it, like wine and beer? This could be a very user-friendly option here - who doesn't like coffee in the morning? But screw having all these types. Why not just have black coffee, white coffee and coffee with cream? Let's keep it simple, nothing too complicated. Unsigned.

- Kill - I prefer tea, actually. This is unfortunately going to get spammed.-- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - Should be english breakfast tea realy.--SeventythreeTalk 00:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Re - Good point. Can I edit this on the fly? Time to find out... --Heretic144 00:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill Coffee flavor item is all right. But not being able to see what's going on while out of AP is meant to prevent server hits by stopping people from checking constantly, as I do. Sorry Kevan! --Jon Pyre 01:43, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - Sleep is there for a reason, so either suggest getting rid of the sleep mechanic altogether and separately from any other suggestion, or leave it alone. As for the coffee- maybe if you boiled some water in a tin can and poured it into handkerchief filtered (or unfiltered ;) ) stale coffee grounds, with the bitter flavor making you sputter, that could work. But an espresso machine? Sounds too much like a normal day at the office. --Ms.Panes 03:18, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Change - How about make it cost 1 AP and heal 1 HP, as with Wine and Beer? That being said, why not make the type of coffee completely random, instead of designated types for designated buildings? This means that tea could appear as well. –Ariedartin Talk
- Kill - As Ariedartin and Karek --Ryiis 14:45, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - I like Ariedartin's proposal. --Z. slay3r • Talk 15:52, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - No thanks. You can wait half an hour to get one AP. --Druuuuu OcTRR 23:32, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Change - With an AP cost, Item, and drug-like affects. Change to that respect, and I say YES. BoboTalkClown 01:38, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - I like the idea, but can't see it as particularly useful or practical. --codespace 20:36, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill What about cocaine? It is useless, who would waste their time with coffee when there are zombies knocking on the door? Inky 03:41, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - I love my coffee, but nothin's nev'r free in this world boy. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - too many espresso machine for a zombie apocalypse. Too many for a normal city even. Should've just left it at "brew a pot of coffee". --PdeqTalk* 11:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- Spam - Using it would cost no AP, No Free Moves.--Karekmaps?! 06:13, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Spam - As Karek. Drinking beer or wine takes AP, why this shouldn't? --~~~~ [talk] 08:02, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Spam - Because I don't think you should be able to see things when you're at or below 0AP. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 08:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Spam - for saying that you could store a cup of coffee in your pack. You are aware of the difference between liquids and solids, I take it? --Funt Solo QT 09:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Re But no problem with carrying 16 shotguns in your pack as you can now? --Heretic144 00:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

- Spam - Don't like this sort of thing at all. Also, the next time you get to 0AP could be days (weeks?) later. I don't know about anyone else, but I rarely run myself into negatives or down to 0AP as a survivor -- boxy talk • i 03:16 13 December 2007 (BST)
