Search Odds Variance
Hey, how have you been calculating the variance for results of the Search Odds data? --Morgan Blair 01:35, 10 October 2007 (BST)
- Thanks. I don't have the higher math education to know what that means, but I can certainly use the formula. Ironically, while I have a bit of genuine genius for mathematics (I've independently come to understand concepts most people require to be taught), I've also got some specific dyscalculia that have severely hampered my formal education... --Morgan Blair 15:58, 10 October 2007
- I don't have enough unpowered factory data to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that the unpowered search rate is the same or close to the normal powered search rate for most locations (we've only got 45 searches in unpowered factories, but there's only a 17% chance that 12 or more searches would succeed, if the search rate were 1 in 5). And I'm pretty sure my data for lit factories was not biased. Most of the time, I did over 40 consecutive searches, and I always did searches in multiples of five (so it's not like I'd stop a search run with a successful effort, and skew the figures that way). But, I plan to do more searching in the future. Just, it's rather tedious, and my search alts have a tendency to end up as zombies, which is a pain...
- Stopping a search run with a successful effort does not skew the search odds statistic. Seculus 19:16, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Costume Stores
I've replied to your comment on Costume stores with what I think is a suitable compromise. What do you think :) --xensyriaT 19:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

- Cheers! This is something that'd be lost very soon if no-one did any research now... Plus it can be fun ;)
- I'm going to make a start on the Halloween page, and I've already said to the relevant talk page that I'm cutting it's current redirection.
- I'd also like to do some research into headbutt, so I've gotten me a mask (skull) and I'll try it out along with some other stuff. If you'd like to help out with that then it'd be great. See Talk:Costume Store for more info (though I'll move that to the Halloween talk page or an even more appropriate page if needs be)
- Cheers!

External Military reports
Yer fallin behind, dude... ;) I have been watching the reports and adding them as I get them to the appropriate suburb News sections... And at least one other user is doing the same thing, sometimes we race for it :) But I don't stick them on the main External Military page, it seems kind of redundant to do so... they are suburb specific, after all. At this point, I am wondering if there is any real point in listing and archiving them on the main page? Maybe set up a wiki group thingy like the NT reporters for people who wanna monitor them and post them to the suburb pages? I dunno... But I do think they are important, in some burbs the reports are the only updates anyone is posting... But I feel kinda funny being almost the only one doing them... but whatever... I will keep it up as long as I am able. --WanYao 16:54, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Retune requires Radio Operation skill
Timestamp: | ~~~~ [talk] 17:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC) |
Type: | action requirement change / skill change |
Scope: | Spam on/from radio. |
Description: | As it is now anyone can retune radio transmitter to any frequency. Players also don't need skill to broadcast on freuences 28.01-29.00. Thus any player, including just created, can retune transmitter and spam from it - such abuse is already made by some person.
Suggested change to avoid this spam abuse is in requiring Radio Operation skill to retune transmitter. Options (i'd like to take only one of these when go to voting):
Some flavor, not neccessary to read, just bla-bla-bla: What actually is radio operating skills in real life? What is broadcasting? talking in the microphone with buttons/levers/etc. switched. Then what challenge stands up when using closed freq-s comparing to open? The reasonable answer i see is that it is encrypted. Then listening to it would also require setting up the decryption for the transmitter. I. e. tuning to the frequency also require same skill. |
Discussion (retune change)
Needlessly weakens new players keeping them from using radio transmitters. Someone could simply walk through buildings changing it so that low level players can't mess with the radio transmitter far too easily. Also, there's only one transmitter per room(I think) so restricting its use is a little much.--Karekmaps?! 00:42, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- I have a newbie character and i never saw a transmitter in the area that character lives be tuned to a frequency he can operate on - there are usually people who keep them tuned on the freq they want - mostly the district frequences and this change won't bother here anything. I actually don't see open frequences being used broadly, except that spammy 28.01 channel that i only heard few times when i was unlucky enough to be in same location as just-created gamers alt... I understand your concerns nevertheless, but system is broken and should be fixed --~~~~ [talk] 17:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

- It's not abuseable considering how powerful of a tool radios actually are, it's a balancing tool. If the downsides too that very powerful tool are too much for you you can always use speech, graffiti, or mobile phones, each extremely powerful in their own way and each with their own downsides.--Karekmaps?! 22:45, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- Powerfullness doesn't negate abusableness. It is abusable as anyone can anytime spam big time (create new scout character, get in a block with radio, retune, spam). Remember why was Radio Operation added first time? I only suggest a small adjustment that helps further on that route, the one that should have been there together with main skill.

Oh, and P.S. We are having a get together in Stanbury Village, in our HQ, Kersley Mansion, this Sunday the 9th. It's a rare occasion we get to see some of our valued travellers, and our old friends. You are invited to come if you are in the area. You will get to meet some of the other ATO members also. Have fun, DanceDanceRevolution 04:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Research
Heya. I see that we're kinda working on the same pages and stuff a bit, and coz there are related I thought that I'd throw some ideas here if you don't mind :).
Firstly there's the issue that you raised about a standard way to quote text ingame. I completely agree, there are specific issues when quoting things like survivors names - there should be a standard to quote a generic survivor name when linked (as when you see them performing an action, and when not linked (when they have an action performed to them), as well as things like the game news button. The best way that I've seen so far is using the
ud template as used in the Halloween page
But this still doesn't solve all of the problems, and isn't an accepted standard yet - ideally this would be put in the style guide or something...
Secondly, I was thinking about making a page for attack codes after doing those Target Codes - basically things like maul for claws, etc. etc.
Finally, and sorry for all the edits here I don't think that the Christmas Tree article is completely finished - it kinda ends half way through a sentance - I don't mind fixing it but I wasn't sure if you're done - plus I got yet another flavour text too add:
You assemble the plastic tree and drape some of the lights over it.
for if there are lights already there.
What think you? --xensyriaT 01:18, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I've added the iWitness records of Museum Piece Item codes to Talk:Items_internal_codes#Museum_Piecies. Interestingly from this, I noticed some stuff - the 'universal' paintings and sculptures - which are in all museums of that type - which are known are numbered I#8 and I#9, the other unusual item is the skull (for the 6% thang) and that's also numbered I#9. Also, where the sculptures and paintings are the same type they have the same numbers. As well as this some numbers have to filled by default. As a result, I'm guessing the following:
- I19 stuffed moose head
- I25 African sculpture
- I29 headless sculpture
- And the unknown ones:
- fish skeleton (I34 or I35)
- lizard skeleton (I34 or I35)
- Pottery presumed to be I50s
- Leaving number that are either empty or of as yet unknown items:
- I22 & I26 (Sculptures)
- I36 - I38 (Skeletons)
- I51 - I59 presumed to be the pottery
- I63 (Paintings)
- I78 & I79 (Glass)
- If this is all correct then the missing numbers in the middle of the sets can be explained as either sculpture and paintings that don't correspond or that the skull's an odd one out. Still, can you be 100% sure that there aren't other items though, like the abstract and contemporary sculptures or impressionist paintings?
- The other thing that I was looking into was Large Buildings that aren't the main types here. So far I found one in game, wrote a program to check all buildings of the same name that border each other, and found along with the Malls power stations etc. only one more church but also loads of warehouses junkyards and factories that border each other. Now I haven't tried these out yet, but they may count as large buildings - I take it that the game just checks to see if the buildings have the same name, but there may be exceptions for unnamed building types. If you notice any around then please tell me what happened, and I'll go onto checking at least one of each type after I've finished the inventory slot thing. --xensyriaT 21:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Target Codes and URLs
Ok, sorry to keep on adding stuff here, but with the edit conflicts I thought that this would be the best place. I think that another field in the flailing gesture target code box would be great for how it's seen by others as well as by yourself - even if we don't have them all yet (iWitness will be useful though), and the ordinary ones that can be used added too, to let people see the message for each one of those as well - and one saying something like "any other code" for the random gesture one. Unless you object or do it yourself then I'll add these things after the editing conflicts have finished :) I've also got some stuff that I'm gunna throw into the talk page for URLs now that Swiers has joined in the discussion --xensyriaT 18:17, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

A question of language.
At the time of posting we had i think 3 suggestions up about torches. A number of users were saying "people wont be able to work out if they are flashlights or flaming piles of twigs." Because theyre silly. It was just a way to get such items into the game, but give it 2 names, to avoid the confusing nature of the english language. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 10:54, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

NecroWatch Badges
As per your request I have investigated your standing within NecroWatch, or put plainly, how many ribbon badges you've collected. Here are the results of my investigation, to which you are free to take it upon yourself to act as you see fit:
- "Barrville Tour of Duty" - Close, so close, but no. You reported from 3 of 4 NTs, but you still need to report a scan from the Neagle Building to earn this ribbon.
- "Millen Hills Tour of Duty" - I'm seeing a trend. You managed to scan from 4 of 5 NTs here, with only the Lazenbury Building remaining unscanned. Get that one and you'll have this badge.
- "Paynterton Tour of Duty" - Ok, admit it, you're doing this on purpose :P. You have 4 of 5 NTs scanned, with only the Gracewood Building remaining unscanned. Get that one and you'll get this badge.
I have also confirmed that you have not managed to claim the Ghost Recon or All-Seeing Eye badges. As there are currently no ";ghost town" suburbs the Ghost Recon badge is currently impossible to claim (but I assume sooner or later an opportunity will present itself to you again). As for the All-Seeing Eye, you need to report from every NT in a suburb with at least 4 NT buildings and be the first one to report at each location with the last scan (if any) being reported a month ago. Not every suburb has 4 NTs, and so far many of those that do have January scans posted on one or more, making them illegible. Of course I did spot Wyke Hills as not having any scans posted and it has 4 NTs. Your call if you want to head that way to claim them for that badge.
Of course that's not to say you have nothing, you do have your Rank 2 badge, so feel free to post this until you get some other badges:
- {{NecroBadges|Name=Duke Garland|Rank=2|ReconRank=|NW-ASE=|NW-GR=|NW-LH=|NW-EV=|NW-BW=|NW-BTD=|NW-ETD=|NW-MHTD=|NW-MTD=|NW-PTD=|NW-MR=}}
Also, those 3 tour of duty badges should be a snap, as that's only 3 NTs you need to report from to get all 3. If you're feeling adventurous try and snag the "Eastonwood Tour of Duty". If you can, not only would that get you the ribbon medal, but it would also count for the "All-Seeing Eye" badge too, as the entire suburb is static. That's two birds with one stone. Of course Eastonwood isn't exactly a friendly place, so your call. --Mobius187 01:48, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
RE: Ghost Recon
When I went through there, it certainly qualified as a ghost town. It was basically empty, only few builldings ruined and almost no human life. I had to lug around 3 generators and fuel to power the NTs.-- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 17:19, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Re: Ghost Recon Badge
- I don't dispute the fact that the suburb map is often out of date. However, Judgewood still fell (debatably) under the definition of Ghost Recon. I can attest to the fact that more than 2/3rds of the suburb's buildings either Empty either ransacked or ruined at the time of my visit. Indeed, there might have been five buildings in survivor hands (three being the NT facilities). I had to bring my own fuel can and genny for Perceval at the time, and use my shotgun to not so kindly remove a zed from Ludlow. Whether it meets the definition of no zombie mobs over 10 and no total zombies over 60 is the disputable aspect of the Ghost Town definition. The Perceval scan showed a scan of 12 zeds directly outside. Other scans revealed 8 zeds outside Peet, and 1 outside Ludlow. I believe the Perceval scan revealed a simple spike in zed activity, and on average zed numbers in Judgewood did not break above 10.
- I maintain that, for all intents and purposes, Judgewood was a ghost town as defined by the UD community on the wiki (suburb map) at the time I posted my scans, and thus met the requirements of the Ghost Recon ribbon. Though this definition might have been slightly outdated, it was primary accurate. The safer danger level in Judgewood, Roywood, and Dakerstown right now is at least partly a product of the DEM training team that went up that way. It marked a major turning point for the area's safety. -Ottari

Quick Question
In case you're not aware, I don't play UD anymore. The NecroWatch Project is more of how I still have fun in UD though, and help people along the way. Now I stopped playing UD ages ago, before buildings could be Ransacked/Ruined. My question is this, do these statuses inhibit placing a generator at a location? In case you're wondering, the purpose of my question has to do with updating building status' based on NT scans, but I don't want to assume a building is not ransacked just because you successfully scanned from there (a sudden realization I had), so I thought it wise to confirm this rather than make erroneous reports. --Mobius187 13:27, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Your wildest dream has come true. More ribbon badges are now available at NecroWatch. There are now 3 new ribbons for you to earn: Combat Recon, Morrish Sentinel, and Raines Hills Tour of Duty. Please note that only scans reported after January 29th, 2008 count towards Combat Recon (so as to be fair to newcomers). Of course right now 2 ribbons could be earned in one scan, so be sure to visit the Battle of Pitneybank before it's all over. Which shouldn't be anytime soon, mind you. Ha, no hard feelings? In the last Manhunt Jed got me within a few hours of the beginning if I recall correctly. Anyway, I'm hitting the hay now. Oh and remember, just coz you're a zed, doesn't mean you can't still do some damage. Have a good'n. Cya round.--Nick 13:25, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Trouble in Raines Hills?
I came across a public iWitness report that indicated a certain someone was dead. Having troubles? Of course the report was from two days ago. My actual question is, do you still want your NecroWatch "member" to be listed as unknown (for his profile link)? I of course respect your privacy and if you would prefer it to remain this way that's okay, but I just wanted to bring it up after spotting that report. --Mobius187 17:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

For your help on the Mansion page I made. I was probably just tired or something but I couldn't find any item search results for Mansions or unique clothes for them at all! Eventualy I hope to have a seperate page for each building type.--SeventythreeTalk 21:29, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

AP Recharging
Heya Duke! Sorry I haven't done anything on that Buildings description yet - I'm a little busy, anyhow, I'm gunna check a couple of things - I'll get around to that 51 slot inventory check with loads of radios that I've been saying that I'll do, and also I'm going to confirm the AP recharging mechanism - do you want to help? The AP article says that it's every half hour from when you last dropped below 50 AP which sounds reasonable, but I've heard that it may be done at a fixed time (10 mins past the hour or something, maybe doing every character in sequence takes it longer though, so it depends on the UDID...) or maybe even (although I doubt this one) since the last AP that you spent. Anyhow, we can get a definative answer on this one reasonably fast - are you in? :) --xensyriaT 02:39, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Monroeville Map
I re-formatted it so it is in the same format as our other maps so we can more easily put them together.

I am also putting together a new format...I'm trying for 20x20, if not then I will increase that to 30x30

Hey. I fear sooner or later the problem will come back... The "subdivision template" was just used less than 6 times... the problem arose from the use off all the wasteland, field and other color tempaltes, which you will have to use in a big map too... --Theokrat 22:27, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

New Badge
Greetings Duke, as you may recall we had a spirited discussion a while back on the topic of new badges. The complaint which had been raised was that none of the honorary NT badges (i.e. Blackmore Watchkeeper) were in the SW or SE quadrants of Malton. At the time I was trying how best to determine which NT should be awarded the next such ribbon in order to spread them out more and allow NecroWatch members in those quadrants access to similar ribbons. The solution I came up with was to award the decision to the first two people who achieved 150+ scans. As you know, that's you and Ottari. As you have the SE Master Recon badge and Ottari has the SW Master Recon badge I have decided that you can select any NT building within SE Malton, while he will choose one for the other quadrant. All I ask is that you select one with some degree of historical significance to it. And thus I've tactfully shirked awarded my responsibility this honor to you. The new badges will be created after both you and Ottari respond, along with the Four Corners badge we discussed. --Mobius 13:10, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Monroeville- St. Hilary's
Thank you for posting the links onto our site page
Why did you do that? do you wish to be a part of our group?

I'm sorry that my information was out of date but at the time of the posting it was true. Also for the longest time though we were on the map the many buildings were missing.
Thank you for the edits though

query...
hey i was wondering if there's anywhere on the wiki where information detailing attack/action descriptions would be? You seem to run a lot of these projects so thought i'd check with you. For clarification i mean that when you attack with a hockey stick you get "You attack "user name" for 3 damage" but i'm interested in what you get with other weapons. Cheers.--xoxo 12:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Not very convincing, Oh, and Prove it. I've never seen proof that this exists and I've never heard of it before this case, so, simply, prove it, don't trust everything you read on the wiki, especially when it's from a barely reliable source, is on an out of the way page, and has never been mentioned in an update anywhere or shown with any evidence beyond one user's word.--Karekmaps?! 12:00, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Dusty Trails
Well, I'm just sorting out some final business around these parts. Long story short, I'm retiring from the UD Wiki and I would like you to consider taking over for me as far as NecroWatch is concerned. You would have free reign over everything, including those new ribbon badges I never completed. If you don't think you're up to the task, or simply don't want the added chore, I would only ask that you check with those other active UD Wiki members who do contribute to NecroWatch and choose someone else to take up the task. Not that it's a hard task... it's fun. Well, that's it for me. You needn't respond as I doubt I'll be around to check, but I figure you're the best man for the job. Consider it a compliment, as it was a pleasure working with you and the other members of NecroWatch. Well, I'm riding off for greener pastures! Hiyah! :) --Mobius 00:24, 16 April 2008 (BST)
Wikilinks?
"will you ever learn what wikilinks are?..) " According to my login, you had posted to my page, even though I saw no post and didn't even notice any checges (I guess they were minor or something?). Your comment was interesting though. I assume wikilinks are just the usual URL links you can copypaste around, just used on the wiki, right? Unless, there's something "special" about wikilinks. If that's the case, then I don't know what they are. If they are something special, how are they, and how do they work? Sorry to clutter your page. I was just curious about that... Have a nice day.--Kolechovski 05:32, 23 April 2008 (BST)
Re: your vote on penalize url actions
i'm pretty sure that this suggestion implies that pressing the button will also cost 1 AP however as hardly anyone presses the button to rise when they are standing up or dump when there is nothing to dump it is hardly an issue.--xoxo 02:35, 28 April 2008 (BST)

Wiki Project at an Impasse needs Expert Coding Advice
Since you knew what was up over at the EMR Map; I thought I'd pick your brain a bit more on the subject...
Anyway, in an entirely separate project, I'm running into the same problem (and our solution for the map isn't applicable to this case). So, is there any workaround? Any way to make the inclusion simply use the final page output, rather then the wiki-code that got it there? My current issue can be seen in this project: Category:AutoDate.
Any advice would be much appreciated! --Morgan Blair 22:45, 16 May 2008 (BST)

LCD going historical
Hey Duke,
It was hell of a time together and I thank you for been with us for so long. Would be great if you vote for LCD on the historical voting page.
- Hugs,
- Cortonna (DarthRevan 16:09, 9 June 2008 (BST))
Yeah I hope we get the historical status, it would be really sad if we dont. Especially after bloody three years, while groups that existed like few months get it. Perhaps you could talk with the USSR/SSZ guys to vote for us, we worked a lot with them. Already posted on their page but you were the main connection.
How have you been doing those days? Dont see you much on msn, which suburb are you operating currently? I could come and visit you.
- Hugs,
- (Cortie)DarthRevan 14:54, 10 June 2008 (BST)
Good to hear, seeing such support actually saddens me even more that LCD is dead now. What took me actually offhand completely is the ZKK voting for us, lol we used to hate (at least I did a lot :P) those guys so much in the past, lost Roywood because of them, and now seeing what the guy wrote about us and how he defended our cause makes me feel so much sorry for being like that. Shows I guess that there are people who actually make a difference between in game and wiki. I sure hope the voting continues in that direction, my bones will finally be able to rest in peace. What's your current position, if you would like my company I could pay you a visit. DarthRevan 09:21, 12 June 2008 (BST)
Mmmm your human characters are really far away from me, it will take days to get there. Hrag is pretty close as I am in Quarlesbank, but I just got back to breathing and no thanks I want my brainz for now ;P unless if I revive him for a bit. Otherwise we could meet up later maybe, I am thinking of travelling myself a bit, I always wanted to return to my birthplace in East Grayside, havent been there from three years now. Or maybe to Foulkes Village, Ruddlebank. DarthRevan 14:02, 12 June 2008 (BST)
