FAQ

  • What is a Bureaucrat?
    • A Bureaucrat (sometimes called a crat) is a user with the special ability to promote and demote users to and from administrative roles (i.e. Bureaucrat and System Operator) on Urban Dead Wiki.
    • Like other administrative roles on the wiki, Bureaucrats do not have any control over the game or its operation. Their responsibilities are strictly related to the wiki.
  • Who gets to be a Bureaucrat?
    • System Operators (usually called sysops) who are elected by the community can become Bureaucrats. For more information on how to become a sysop, read the Promotions page.
    • The wiki maintains two Bureaucrats at all times, with elections occurring every six months or in response to the demotion of a sitting Bureaucrat.
    • A sitting Bureaucrat can run for re-election, provided they meet all eligibility requirements (e.g. they're not inactive), with no limits on how many terms they can serve.
  • Who can vote?
    • All wiki users are allowed to vote. Users are eligible for one vote per seat that is up for election.
    • Sysops running in the election are allowed to vote for themselves.

Rules

Rules concerning the election.
  1. An election is started immediately upon the resignation or demotion of a sitting Bureaucrat.
  2. Both Bureaucrat seats are up for election every six months, on June 1st and December 1st.
  3. The election ends after two weeks, counting from the when the election is started.
  4. The candidates with the most and second-most votes win the election.
  5. In the event of a tied vote the currently sitting bureaucrats will decide between the tied candidates.
Rules concerning candidates.
  1. All active users with the sysops status are automatically declared candidates for any vacant Bureaucrat positions.
    • Users who are not eligible for automatic demotion by the Truly Inactive Sysops policy are considered "active" for purposes of the election.
  2. The Bureaucrats whose positions come up for election if said election is started under rule 2 of Rules concerning the election are automatically declared candidates.
    • Unless said otherwise, a Bureaucrat who is demoted due to inactivity is not eligible in the ensuing election to fill their seat.
  3. A candidate can retract their own candidacy at any time.
Rules concerning voting.
  1. All users have only one vote per Bureaucrat position to be filled.
    • This means that, in regular elections started under rule 2 of Rules concerning the election, each user has two votes. In unscheduled elections started under rule 1, each user has only one vote.
  2. Users vote for a candidate by signing under the preferred candidate's name.
    • Users cannot cast more than one vote per candidate.
  3. Users may change their votes for a candidate as long as the election has not ended.
    • Multiple votes at the same time will be struck.
  4. Sockpuppetry is considered vandalism.

Eligible Candidates

A Helpful Little Gnome

Boxy

  1. He's probably the best at being 'crat out of anyone here when he's actually active, and he's active enough at the moment. Aichon 05:37, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
  2. I'd be fine with any of the candidates including aichon, who I'm pretty sure set this up to insure he was first to withdraw. However, boxy is already crat, so I figure he is willing to do it. --K 21:42, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
It was actually pure coincidence that I was so on-the-ball this time around (I happened to be checking some admin pages after Gnome's recent work). That I could instantly withdraw myself was a nice bonus, I won't deny, but it wasn't even something I realized until right after I had posted it. Aichon 22:06, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

  5. Comment --Rosslessness 20:58, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Breaking news on UDWiki today, as Rosslessness chose to comment on a Bureaucrat election while he was, himself, seated as a Bureaucrat. Historically, Rosslessness has refrained from engaging in such actions, describing them as indicating bias and "being beneath him".

Why this about-face? Analysts speculate it may be due to the changing wiki climate, and that it could be an indication of things to come. "As wiki levels cool down, the remaining users will need to generate more activity in order to preserve life," said renowned wiki expert, Dr. D. Revolution, suggesting that Ross' output may be increasing in response to changes he sees in the environment. An unnamed, high-level source with access to private administrative discussions describes Ross' recent mood as "pensive, terse [...] he's boiling beneath the surface and could explode at any moment, but no one is talking about it."

Whether Ross' show of support in the election could be a clue for what the future holds in store remains to be seen, but Dr. Revolution believes that the ramifications of a more active Rosslessness cannot be understated. "Should Rosslessness reach the activity levels he once sustained in the wiki's more youthful days, we may be unable to cope. Dozens may go inactive if they think he has things under control, and the wiki may never recover."

That said, not all are in agreement. Wiki climate change deniers, spearheaded by Rev. Enant's non-profit organization, Misconbitragnarok, continue to suggest that his comment is merely part of a natural cycle that all Rosslessnesses go through, and that his activity is of no particular concern. They point to past examples of increased activity as evidence that the wiki has survived swings in his behavior before.

Regardless of whether this activity is catastrophic or uneventful, stay tuned for the latest news as we provide continuing coverage on this breaking story. Aichon 21:58, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
There is no more Rosslessness activity than there was 20 years ago. This is just fear mongering, and I would certainly question any data that says otherwise. We all know the wiki funding goes to those "wiki climate change" supporters <cough>Dr. Revolution</cough>. --K 22:28, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I love you both, that was great. A ZOMBIE ANT 01:11, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
I've spent the last 5 days lying on a hospital floor, awaiting my first born. All the carbon monoxide alarms in my house are ringing. My gradual slippage towards a coup is nothing to be concerned about. This is just exploratory. I promise I will not cause earthquakes or contaminate the water table. --Rosslessness 21:55, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
First day back and this is what I see. I love you people. -- †  talk ? f.u. 15:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  6. This is how you know I'm upstanding, voting for the competitor. Not that there is exactly anything to get. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 02:28, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
