The roots of Foulkes Village extend back to the settlement of Anglo-Saxon farmers and pigherds in the post-Roman 'dark ages', a fact attested to by the plethora of Anglo-Saxon place names in the area, such as Etheldreda General Hospital, St. Aelred's Church (focal point of the original village), Fyfhyde Plaza and the Ffych Building. Viking invasions in the area were limited to the raids by Lorgh Redclaw of Lorgh Walk fame, so for centuries the Village remained a green and peaceful haven from the violent and turbulent world beyond its meadows and woodlands.

The Malton suburb of Foulkes Village was originally founded as a separate township in the 18th Century. The Foulkes family, led by patriarch Marvin Foulkes, settled in the area of present day St. Aelred's Church in 1774. Further members of the Foulkes family, along with relatives and friends moved to the area in the following years, building several homes and businesses. In 1792, the area was incorporated as a township named Foulkes Village in honor of the original founding family in the area. Interestingly, the family name Foulkes may itself derive from the Anglo-Saxon word folc, meaning people. This confirms the suspicion of many Maltonians that 'Foulkesians' generally don't get out much, and jokes about Village in-breeding are rife.

Foulkes Village was eventually annexed by the expanding city of Malton in 1859 and the Malton government divided the area into three neighborhoods – Crew Avenue, Vincent Square, and Frye Alley. The City established police departments in each of these neighborhoods to serve the local residents. With the annexation came rapid growth, primarily industrial and thus the new Malton suburb of Foulkes Village got a large working class population that continued to grow until the Depression of the 1930s where many factories and workplaces shut down. The neighborhood still has a number of factories, warehouses and auto repair facilities that reflect its industrial past and many workers still lives here.

At the time of the quarantine, Foulkes Village had just started to feel the result of several years of gentrification. Due to low housing prices and "post-industrial atmosphere", Foulkes had become a trendy area of Malton to live in, especially for young artists, musicians and students from the upper middle class. In the wake of those new residents a number of cultural institutions followed, including several museums, libraries and cinemas further increasing the new found popularity for "South West Village" in the eyes of the middle class. The influx of educated and resource-rich residents also made Foulkes more commercially attractive and as a result the commercial rents went up. Old pubs were beginning to close down only to be exchanged for wine bars and fancy resturants.

Despite all this, Foulkes had a reputation for being sleepy and geriatric, with the nickname 'Old Foulkes Home' proving difficult to dislodge from the popular imagination. This maybe because the orignial inhabitants of Foulkes prefer that to be called old than to live in 'South West Village'. To some extent, the zombie outbreak has dispelled the image of Foulkes being a sleepy and calm, as both elderly and young Foulks have discovered newfound lust for life: especially brains and internal organs.

23/1/2024 About 10 zombies spread around the suburb, mostly hiding in ruins. The NecroTech Countermeasure Squad is on location to cleanse the zombie presence and re-establish survivor control of the suburb. Most buildings intact except for a contingent at the suburb's center, although few are powered. --Mikhail Vicktor 19:04, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
