20080410 Make Headshot effects visible (Monroeville and Malton)

SIM Core Map.png Swiers 08:13, 10 April 2008 (BST)

Suggestion type
informative improvement

Suggestion scope
interface, profiles, contacts

Suggestion description
This suggestion is mainly aimed at helping players in Monroeville by providing useful information, but would also be a nice flavor boost in Malton.

  • When viewing a group of bodies, you would see how many of them had "serious head wounds", thus letting you know how many were zombies that had died of headshots.
  • When viewing your contacts list, characters who are dead and suffering from a headshot would have their names shown in italics to make it immediately obvious that (in Monroeville) they are "out of the game", or (in Malton) they are dead, and died as a zombie, not a survivor.

  8. Keep - yeah, okay, useful for Monroeville especially. Also, not a dupe. Same purpose as link, but not same mechanics. --PdeqTalk* 09:13, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  9. Keep - Simply - good. --  13:38,
  10. Keep - Good flavor - and not a dupe. And Rosslessness, why does it have to 'benefit' the zombies if it makes sense on its own. If they get shot in the head, it should be apparent that they got shot in the head. Doesn't even matter who that helps - it just makes sense. Especially in monroeville. --Tselita 16:39, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  11. Keep - Not crazy about this suggestion, but it's not a dupe.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  17:40, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  12. keep/ - information is good. Also, it's significantly different from the so called dupe provided, as it's an innate ability, not an action that requires a skill--CorndogheroT-S-Z 18:03, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  13. Un-Dupe - I feel there are sufficient differences (passive, no skill required) to make this a seperate suggestion. If this gets duped, I would suggest taking it to arbritration. --Gene Splicer 18:30, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Not to mention the inclusion of an entirely new effect that the linked suggestion does not have. In the linked suggestion, there is no sure way to tell if a contact has been headshot, even if you do see the body. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 21:01, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  14. Keep - DUPED! Awesome. The voting system on this wiki is completely fucked, and many of the people doing the voting are unreasonable to begin with. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. - Grant (talk) 18:34, 10 April 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Certainly helps survivors know if theyre likely to be attacked the next day or not. Not really sure the benefits for the zetheren. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:46, 10 April 2008 (BST)
It helps zombies by letting them know the strengths of their potential allies. I got the Idea because my Monroeville zombie was at 4 HP and I was looking for a ZK. I went into a few hiding places and kept finding my contacts dead on the ground. I wasn't sure if they ad been ZKed or headshot- if the former, I would have stuck around, if the latter, I'd move on. As it was, I had to move on, rather than stay with my team. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 19:49, 10 April 2008 (BST)
RE It helps ferals then. As surely any zombies attacking in a horde know there allies. And are there any ferals left in Monroeville? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:00, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Yes. See talk page. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 21:22, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - In Malton this info is not useful enough to justify the extra screen space. In Monroeville I'd rather see the bodies hidden and the headshot indicated in their profile instead. --Explodey 20:13, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Not a dupe because of the contacts list part. And its the contacts list part that I'm killing on. Think of it this way, the contact list is your list of friends written down on a piece of paper. Does the paper magically know?--Pesatyel 04:30, 11 April 2008 (BST)
The contacts list ("piece of paper") already "knows" when your contacts have gained XP or levels, when they have died or been revived (the class will change to "zombie" if dead), whether they still have a cell phone or have dropped it, whether they have changed what group they say they are in, and whether they have been inactive for a while (struck contacts). So, contact lists clearly already provide a LOT of continually updated information (I'm not even sure I covered it all) that "your list of friends written down on a piece of paper" could not provide, and status of contacts in regards to a headshot is hardly outside the scope of what it already tells you, and has from day one. It may be "magically" providing this information, but its a sort of magic that has been there all along, not any novel new form of wizardry.
For what its worth, I presume the contacts list information to be stuff you gather "through the grapevine" that only means something if you know the person. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 06:04, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Un-Dupe - I don't like the flavor, and there's no real help from the information given. Definitely not a dupe of that though.--Druuuuu OcTRR 20:13, 20 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Kill - Monroeville is all but dead and this would just be screen spam in Malters.--xoxo 05:33, 21 April 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe - i didn't made many suggestions, but this one i really did --~~~~ [talk] 08:28, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Yes, that one covers the first half of this suggestion, although mine doesn't require a skill, and more significantly doesn't take an AP, making it much more likely to give info that people make use of, or at least actually see. However, I've also got the (hugely significant in Monroeville) effect that you know which of your contacts have taken a headshot, and I don't see that in your suggestion. That in fact is the meat of this suggestion; spotting bodies with head wounds is just flavor, althoug ti would be the bulk of the effect in Malton. If need be, I'll revise this to remove the part that duplicates effects of your suggestion, as it really doesn't add much to its main intended effect. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 08:35, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Dupe - I'm gonna go with this then. A shame, this seemed interesting. --Vandurn 13:58, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Dupe - I would have voted kill, but duke has lead the dupe brigade into battle. If there is a pile of bodies, and anyone of them is likely to stand up and try to eat my brains, i'm not going to take the time to look for bullet holes in the forehead. sorry. -- Jack S13 T! PC 17:35, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Should this suggestion now be removed as a dupe? From dupe: Well, your suggestion was an exact duplicate of another suggestion already made (or close enough to have no discernible differences). In the Urban Dead wiki suggestion system, the vote "dupe" is for just that. It takes three valid dupe votes to get a suggestion removed...
I think its clear that this is NOT identical, and it has several discernible differences. Most notably, at least half of the suggestion (relating to contacts) is not even hinted at by the linked suggestion, and the other half is significantly different even if not entirely so.
I was going to remove it as a dupe, but looking at the dupe page, I think removing this would set a very bad precedent, as EVERY suggestion made uses elements from previous suggestions, or from the game itself, and therefore could qualify as a dupe if incorporating previous elements alongside new ones counts as duplication.
