20080608 Additional Decorative Items (similar to museum pieces)

Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 05:14, 8 June 2008 (BST)

Suggestion type
flavor items

Suggestion scope
multiple building types

Suggestion description

General Description

Additional decorative items that would enhance the atmosphere in buildings could be found in certain locations. Similar to museum pieces, these items would be installed in the manner as museum pieces and would show similar text, such as “So-and-so installed a dart board in the building”. Once installed, they would be listed in the building description as if they were museum pieces, and would be subject to the same maximum number of items as if they were museum pieces.

These flavor items would enhance the building atmosphere more than “a cubist sculpture” or other vaguely-described museum pieces. Players can use them for role play flavor more easily than museum pieces, and some, such as a coffee pot, are often referred to as imaginary items by role players. These items were chosen for their ability to enhance player interaction and atmosphere. Non role-players would be able to ignore them like they do museum pieces, as they won’t make a difference in the amount of role play happening around them anyway.

For Zombies

The items could be destroyed in a manner similar to museum pieces and generators. For zombie players with ransack, damaging or destroying the items would give appropriately flavored text. For example:

"The dart board shatters into useless chunks of cork as you destroy it."

"The music skips a beat as you damage the CD Player."

"The music stops forever when you destroy the CD Player."

"Bells ring and the video game flashes an error message as you damage it."

"The words "Game Over" flash, sparks fly, and then the screen goes dark as you destroy the video game."

Item Details

The very bulky items occupy the same amount of inventory space as a museum piece. (~20 %) The moderately bulky items occupy the same amount of inventory as a shotgun. (~6 %)

Find rates for all Moderately Rare items would be about the same as museum pieces. Extremely Rare items would have a find rate of approximately 2%. (~4% lit.) Yes, the new update could change some of these numbers, but it's too soon after the update to know how to tweak them.

  8. Keep - But what happened to my lava lamps and traffic cones. I wanted to drink dome beer, stagger around Malton for awhile, then stumble home with a traffic cone. The Mad Axeman 12:13, 8 June 2008 (BST)
There are so many potential items that could be fun! I just picked a few that I thought would be representative to demonstrate the concept. I didn't include items found outside since I thought that might be a bit less well-received. Lave lamps and traffic cones could be included in a separate suggestion if this one passes voting. --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 13:58, 8 June 2008 (BST)

  24. Keep - As with many above. Suggest including a poll to vote on this week's/month's new useless crap to be added. I think an arcade machine should me more like 80% encumbrance but like the idea of more stuff. NewOrderrr 21:16, 10 June 2008 (BST)
  25. Keep/Change - Definitely needed. I think that decorations should be much more common, it will add some distinctness to buildings. Some of the items are a bit ridiculous or just don't fit, like the soda machine (500 percent encumbrance?), but I think it's up to Kevan as to see what should and shouldn't be added. --L33t 0wn3r 00:47, 11 June 2008 (BST)
  26. Keep - Great idea, lots of RP potential. I would even add some super rare items that could be found in just one place in the city. --Shazzelim 13:31, 13 June 2008 (BST)
  27. Keep - More flavor = better. - Fred Fredfredson 05:14, 14 June 2008 (BST)

  30. Keep - Change is good. --Heretic144 01:35, 16 June 2008 (BST)
  31. Keep - Keep but drop the heavier decorative items. I liked it because of the option of decorating with less burdensome objects than you'd get in a museum. If you want a 20% burden to decorate, there's the museum. Plus, if you have a dart board, then I'd be able to suggest darts. :) --Tselita 15:16, 16 June 2008 (BST)
  32. Keep - It's a good and funny idea and it will help roleplayers. --HmH 22.07, 17 June 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Change I like where it's heading, but it seems just really unrealistic to be transfering video games machines by yourself. Make a new version with some feedback and I'm sure I'll vote keep next. -- Takiel 00:23 (EST), 8 June 2008
So would removal of the words "coin-operated" do it for you?--Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 05:43, 8 June 2008 (BST)
Yes, basically and the soda machine as well. I just can't imagine someone running away from zombies with a soda machine on their back. -- Takiel 12:53 (EST), 8 June 2008
I can't see someone carrying two portable generators and a bunch of fuel cans or eight shotguns and pistols running away from zombies either. --Atticus 18:05, 18 June 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - this is just wrong... --~~~~ [talk] 16:53, 9 June 2008 (BST)
Extremely Weak Kill: as above with the heavy objects, what about a popcorn machine o.0? would you be able to heal from that? seriously im not kidding...other then that a great suggestion which kinda confuses why i made it a kill.cus i wanted to even it up :/ Unsigned vote struck. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:00, 9 June 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill - Eh, I think the current selection is good enough. --ZsL 02:24, 11 June 2008 (BST)
  4. Kill - The reason people want to have an interior decorating sim is because there aren't any zombies around. - Grant (talk) 10:35, 11 June 2008 (BST)
  5. kill - grant above said it. we've got enough decorations. if anything, i wanna be able to remove them from buildings, not add more types to the random clutter. --WanYao 05:14, 17 June 2008 (BST)
