20080505 Monstrosity

Suggestion type
Skill
Suggestion scope
Zombies
Suggestion description
While I know somepeople out there will claim to be fearless, any sane person would not run up to the undead hordes just to bury an axe in one then run away and attract attention to themselves. In fact the majority of the public would probably be too scared to do anything.
Monstrosity
The afflicted zombie is a hideous sight to behold, the rotting flesh and numerous parasites (and not to mention that obnoxious odour even a bath won’t cure) on this festering cadaver is a true horror to behold. So much is the horror of the decaying legions the average survivor struggles to stay in control of their own bodily functions.
For every 10 zombies standing together who have purchased the Monstrosity Skill there is a 1% chance that any survivor who performs an action (with the exclusion of movement) freezing in horror. Freezing causes the action to not take effect with some appropriate flavour text along the lines of "you attempt X but are paralyzed by fear" costing the survivor 1AP.
Finer Details...
- Subskill of Brainrot
- For the zombie to count towards the total it must be standing AND have purchased the skill.
- The maximum chance of a survivor being paralysed in fear is 25% (250Z's).

Keep Votes
- Keep - I did quite a bit of work on this and would hardly vote kill... thanks to everyone from discussion --Kamikazie-Bunny 16:29, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Rar. ONOZ runaway. --UCFSD 17:44, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I like this idea a lot. Necrodeus 18:02, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep/Change - Despite my pro-survivor tendencies, I actually think this is a good idea. Gives zombies an additional reason to buy Brain Rot for a tactical advantage, but I would have liked to have seen a way to factor in survivor mentality of 'safety in numbers' to counter Monstrosity (ie, survivors would be more likely to become paralyzed in small groups than in large groups). Though Shadowscope and Jamie do make good points as well. --Tselita 23:38, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - As the first spam voter, except that I appreciate the mechanics if not the flavor. --Heretic144 03:16, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I approve of anything cool for zombies under Rot. And to the below voters, if there are 150+ zombies inside a mall, you're already fucked. --Druuuuu OcTRR 05:23, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - lol @ the tards below who fail to realize how small a chance of occuring this will be in 99% of situations. Do the math before you cry about unfair nerfs.-- ZZ 07:08, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Definately a nice idea but not so happy with the whole multiplied by Zombie number thing. I think it may be a tad too powerful. On an individual basis it makes sense thougth Zig13 - 6/05/2008 at 10:57(BST)
- Keep Cool flavor and this would discourage trenchcoaters. --Janis petke 11:58, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep Cool idea, seems to work well. I like that it caps at 25% at the point that you are pretty much doomed anyway if you don't run. If there are 250 rotters . . . --Feasoron 10:46 May 6, 2008 (EST)
- Keep - Although what I really want is for Ruin to prevent free running. - Grant (talk) 09:33, 7 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I was about to vote spam because I object to innate abilities and group abilities, but then I saw Billy's usual "don't mess with AP" comment and I object to that even more, especially since this suggestion doesn't even mention AP! (Okay it does, but no more so than missing an attack, mistakenly clicking a GPS unit etc.) --Explodey 19:44, 12 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - This suggestion is gamebreaking, makes no sense, and will probably be the death of me. Plus I heard Osama Bin Laden likes it. But if I voted kill then I'd lose my Keep-voting streak, and a streak is a streak. --Zaphod Beeblebrox 18:57, 14 May 2008 (BST)
- KEEP Needs work but good genreal ideaWai Lam 18:28, 15 May 2008 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Keep Not the Same as Being Scary. Special Power to be Scary. Imaginative --Piccolo
- kill - as per the first two spam votes. --WanYao 20:28, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - This would be really bad with over 150+ zeds inside a mall. Ha, you try to cade but the zombies got in your way because their getting smart, and then on top of that you’re now to afraid shoot them and then you die because this suggestion made your character into a pussy. Sorry this game started in 2005 most people in Malton would be over how ugly and scary the zeds are by now.--Jamie Cantwel3 Talk 20:35, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Re: If there was a 150Zs in a mall your probably best fleeing, that said, if there was 150 rotters in the mall (15% chance) capable of making you freeze you can bet there's another few hundred non-rotters ready to feed. As for living 3 years with zombies I'm going to have to quote "I guess a person can get used to anything over time but complete realism kind of went out the window the moment you started plying game that includes zombies". --Kamikazie-Bunny 12:21, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As Shadowscope. Honestly, the people who are alive right now are that way because they're hardened enough not to freak out. This is just another siege buff for zombies. --Vandurn 20:46, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - as Vandurn and the two spam votes--CorndogheroT-S-Z 21:22, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - It's an interesting idea and definitely genre-appropriate, but something like this could wind up driving players away from the game out of frustration. I must reluctantly vote kill.--Jiangyingzi 21:52, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - That's right, sane people wouldn't do that, because scent trail will lead the zombie back to their safehouse. Don't need an additional punishment for such things. --PdeqTalk* 22:36, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill As above, and nearly everyone HAS been an ugly zed on top of that! --FXI 00:37, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - not a bad idea and i don't think its overpowered but i agree people would be used to it, particularly what FXI said.--xoxo 02:46, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - ShadowScope makes a good point. --ZsL 03:12, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - No im not "paralysed with fear." Leave my AP alone. --Pvt human 05:52, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Would be annoying. "Paralyzed with fear" can add interest to games (like in Zelda when the mummy screams, and while you're too stunned to move it slowly walks over to feast on you, with you crying, "Oh, s*** s*** s***!" the whole time), but all this does is take successful hits off the RNG and throw them down the toilet, and we all know how "loved" the RNG is already. --Ms.Panes 06:53, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - The flavour is lame, the mechanic is annoying and large hordes already have an effect on people. You don't want to stay long in huge hordes. The larger the horde, the larger the chance someone will unexpectedly log in and bite your ass off. Please don't try to formalize into the game mechanics what's already there. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:51, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - A fair number of people already use AP to emote fear via speech, etc. I'd rather REWARD those people than punish everybody in the game with a needless AP drain. I say needless because this doesn't really add anything. A horde with enough rotters that this would help them doesn't NEED any help. Anyhow, most survivor actions have enough of a chance to fail, or take enough AP, that its reasonable to say, from an RP perspective, that the character deals with their fear as part of the action (or maybe not, for actions that fail). Swiers 17:22, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill Giant Windmills. --Karloth Vois TALK RR 20:29, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - as everyone above. It also just doesn't sound fun. --Jasonjason 23:51, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I believe the community dislikes any suggestion that has to do with AP loss. Having a 25% chance to lose 1 AP per every action aside from movement is ridiculous. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 00:32, 7 May 2008 (BST)

- Kill - As BillyClubThorton, ShadowScope and Vandurn -- 14:05, 7 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I don't like brain rot sub-skills, because I think they would make the zombie part of dual nature play less satisfying. I don't want to have to play multiple characters to experience all of UD. --Toejam 17:11, 7 May 2008 (BST)
- kill - i can see how this could happen in the beginning weeks of an outbreak, but i would think that you become immune to this after years of fighting the undead. and dont screw with AP --Scotw 18:45, 7 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I really hate that many players feel like they have to insert massive amounts of gore into their zombie descriptions, so I'm against anything that will encourage that tendency. --└Frozen┘┌Flame┐ 22:46, 8 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Unless Don Quixote skills are also implemented that will make my survivor immune to the terror caused by giant windmills.--Screw Names 07:46, 9 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - When did this game become Resident Evil 3? While we're at it, zombies also need the skill Fart Fire, because things aren't hard enough for survivors yet. There's still a few buildings standing. --Barton 17:43, 9 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill- More over power. gabdewulf 05:26, 11 May 2008 (BST)

- Don't mess with AP - -doc crook 13:18, 13 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill-Baba Yaga and Nosferatu do not exist in Urban Dead. Zombies are scary no matter what. Nothing will make them scarier. I vote no. --Howser 21:40, 13 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Find a skill that doesn't effect other people's ap like Headshot doesn't. Cause we all know that every skill has it's equal on the opposite side. But this monstrosity idea, well I just don't like it. -- LABIA on the INTERNET Dunell Hills Corpseman #24 - |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| TMG 21:44, 13 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - The human population of Malton is made of sterner stuff than to be scared of a few malformed zombies. Zombies eating you, on the other hand... --Schlindler 15:15, 14 May 2008 (BST)
- The last 3 updates have been zombie buffs already. (first time voter - if I made a mistake in how I did this please fix it thanks) -- Allison 15:42, 14 May 2008 (BST)

- Kill - As Sullivan and Frozen Flame Canarsie Jones 17:27, 15 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - If there are that many Brain Rotted zombies in the building, the building is screwed anyway and they don't need the extremely minor advantage that this would give. --AshLaw 21:52, 15 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill Groups like the Dead and the Big Bash have it easy enough taking down buildings and killing survivors that they don't need additional help from this --Cat 19:00, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill harder than a Chuck Norris Kick can --Looking For Group 22:56, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Phail. That is all. -- THELORDGUNSLINGER 15:40, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I don't like it. It's complicated, useless, and is a skill that it doesn't hurt to put in, but also doesn't hurt not to put in. If we had a lot of skills like these, it would just create too many complications. Ioncannon11 23:21, 19 May 2008 (BST) Posted past deadline. --ZsL 22:04, 20 May 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - A rare spam vote. This is a ridiculous suggestion for several reasons: 1)Unnecessary and ANNOYING nerf to survivors, 2)Forces players to conform to YOUR idea of the nature of their character (eg. What if my character is schizophrenic and thinks that the zombies are actually giant windmills?) and 3)LEAVE MY AP THE HELL ALONE! Billy Club Thorton T! RR 19:22, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Re: 1) In order for this to have any effect you would need at least 10 Rotters, if there's 10 rotters around they're probably ready for war and organised but that only provides a 1% chance of being affected. 2) Not sure how it forces people to conform, I'm assuming the majority like to think zombies are supposedly scary. 3) Why do people always scream that? I'm guessing you want headshot gone as well. Unsigned comment struck. Billy Club Thorton T! RR 06:56, 7 May 2008 (BST)
- RE: That's not quite how schizophrenia works. More likely a schizophrenic would believe that the radio broadcastings contain secret messages meant specifically for them. But yes, judging from some websites I've stumbled upon, there are people who can handle very intensely gruesome sights. There are far more shocking things online right now than anything one would possibly encounter in a real zombie apocalypse. --Ms.Panes 07:11, 6 May 2008 (BST) non-author re struck --PdeqTalk* 07:29, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- It has been three years since the entire plague started. I think everyone would be used to the zeds by now.--ShadowScope'the true enemy' 19:41, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- Dupe Spam - Still Spam. Don't tell me how to play my character. Still don't think a zombie should have a skill that affects how others respond to them. If you think this is a good idea then you must think that a group of survivors with Headshot should be able to have the same affect and that's just stupid. 3) Why do people always scream that? I'm guessing you want headshot gone as well. (there is a difference between being killed affecting AP and just being in the room and affecting AP. Figure it out!) AND lol @ the tards below who fail to realize how small a chance of occuring this will be in 99% of situations. True hordes are encouraged to buy Brain Rot to stop combat revives so this might very well happen. That means you're dumb. Changed vote to Dupe because of this: [suggestion] from 05 which was rejected. -- #99 DCC SNACK STRONG 13:48, 6 May 2008 (BST)

- Spam - If I want to play Cemetery Man, I will damn well play Cemetery Man. As others have said, Z-Day was a long time ago. At this point, zombies are a fact of life that people have dealt with in order to survive. Those who couldn't deal with it are now zombies themselves. --Diano 22:00, 15 May 2008 (BST)
