20080107 Survivor Skills for Zombies

Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 15:48, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Skills change

Suggestion scope
Zombies and survivor skills

Suggestion description
A simple suggestion. After a zombie buys Memories of Life, a new section appears below their normal skills called "Survivor Skills". From here zombies can buy survivor skills that can be used as a zombie, ie. Body Building and Necrotech Employment. The skills are considered cross-class and as such cost 150XP. Diagnosis is not included because zombies have Scent Fear, which is superior to Diagnosis (it can detect infection).

Buying Brain Rot makes the "Survivor Skills" section disappear.

The reason why zombies need this is that there are survivor skills which have significant effects on the gameplay, even when you're a zombie. I'm talking about Body Building here. Yes, zombies could buy it if they're combat revived, but they shouldn't have to turn into survivors just to get it.

The reason why survivors don't need an equivalent is because there's only two skills that can be used when not a zombie:

  1. Scent Blood, which acts exactly as Diagnosis when you're alive and costs a maximum of 150XP (same as survivor skills would cost to zombies).
  2. Ankle Grab, but you have to die before you can use it, so there's no problem in getting it when you need it.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - I believe that not only is the surviver group deserving of the right to skills but zombies as well, they are part of this games experience as well. If there is such a problem then maybe the name of the skills can be changed from surviver skills to Infection skills so that it would be a way of organization for the people who like the idea and to thous who don't like it.--Krisgo3 06:35, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - I agree about the fact that's not very flavourful to be revived in order to get the cross-class skills. It wouldn't hurt anyone too, I guess, and maybe would help to avoid some arguments and accusations of being a zed spy.--James beckerson 16:01, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - You forgot Scent Death in the zed skills that benefit survivors. I'd also prefer if brain rot didn't make the survivor skills list disappear (what if someone buys it before they get body building?), but since I like the basic premise of this suggestion, I'll vote keep. --Reaper with no name TJ! 16:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, yes, forgot Scent Death. Well, when you're alive, Scent Death provides only the number of reviving corpses in the location. It doesn't have a gameplay effect like Body Building, it's only informative. But then again, so is NT employment. I'm not against a survivor version of this, but the thing is that survivor skills are more useful for zombies than zombie skills to survivors. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Conditional Keep A decent idea but I don't like that brain rot blocks this. Brain rot is the main reason for this skill to exist! Would strongly prefer Kevan to change it so that the skills can still be bought (but at double cost) after brain rot! --Honestmistake 16:48, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Keep - As Honestmistake, and let survivors get survivor versions of zed skills. UCFSD 16:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep - i like this. this is a right way for zombie to acquire body building --~~~~ [talk] 17:12, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Author vote. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Conditional... Necrotech doesn't hire corpses. The only in-genre explanation that can be offered for a zombie player suddenly knowing where NT's are located would probably involve being a test subject/zombie hive mind. Anyway, whatever. --LumiReaver 20:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Change - As honestmistake.Studoku 21:01, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Change - As UCFSD, and name them Undead Strenth(Bodybuilding) and NT Test Subjest(NT employment) BoboTalkClown 21:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Change - As HonestMistake. --TriPolarClicky! 01:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Change - NT employment dosen't make sense, but body building does. I would suggest a zombie equivilent to body building that doesn't stack, you could get both, but it wouldn't do anything for you. --BlobdudeTalk TM MC 03:11, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep - Usually, I'd kill something like this right off. But I kind of like it, even though zombies really do not need it at all. --Vandurn 14:29, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Alright. --Heretic144 00:54, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Your basic suggestion is great. But what I don't like is that it's basically just a quick fix for lazy zombies who don't feel like waiting a couple days for a revive. Besides, as a zombie, how exactly could you learn Body Building? Zombies don't have access to weights, and because they're already decomposing, they shouldn't be able to build more muscle mass. --Hhal 17:04, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Zombies have been shambling around for two and a half years now and none of them are worse for wear. Either they don't decompose, or decomposition has no effect on them. If they don't decompose, then there is no obstacle for building more muscle mass just like if they were alive. If the do decompose, then they obviously have some other way to maintain their condition and I don't see why that couldn't get stronger or more effective or something. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Zombies, imo, should not have access to survivor skills they bought to begin with. Making Zombies even more like survivours from a different gang (or vice versa) is ridiculous. --Pgunn 17:10, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - The way it is set up now is more challenging, and more challenging means more fun.--Actingupagain 17:13, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - By making all the cross class abilities available for zombies you would be discouraging players from playing dual nature.-- Headshot Hal 18:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Not really. This is mainly useful for those who'd never play dual natured anyway. Those who do play dual nature have no problem getting the skills. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - If you get revived, just get the skills. I don't like this. --Druuuuu OcTRR 18:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Make zed skills available to survivors and then we'll talk.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  20:15, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill As Nali make it for survivors then we will talk. Omega 20:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
I can't imagine why he would want to talk to you, but that is neither here nor there.--Thekooks 20:29, 7 January 2008 (UTC) - striking non-author re: --Ryiis 20:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Get revived, buy the skills... there doesn't need to be a whole other skill to waste XP on. --Ryiis 20:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Kill Iscariot 00:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC) Unjustified vote struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:21, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill Fine then, kill under Frequently_Suggested, Hel Characters, which is what this is the beginning of. -- Iscariot 14:34, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Headshot - haha... no... --/~Rakuen~\ 00:28, 8 January 2008 (UTC) Unjustified vote struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill - Crossover skills are meant to reward people who have spent a little bit of time playing both sides. Besides that, becoming a zombie doesn't make you any stronger (bodybuilding). On the contrary, your limbs are pretty much falling off. Also, as stated above, Necrotech doesn't hire zombies. If you didn't work for them in life, you'd have to learn where they were by following the horde. My advice is that you just wait until the next time you find yourself combat revived and pick up those skills then. And while you're at it, get a flak jacket too. --Uncle Bill 00:33, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - Because zombie commando scientists just aren't as cool as they sound. --Nicholas Bashere 02:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Change - The 150 XP cost is too high, zombies have a hard enough time maxing out with less levels and all their levels costing 100XP. --Karekmaps?! 04:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  13. Kill - Why would necrotech hire a zombie as a lab assistant? -Downinflames 05:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  14. Kill - they're called survivor skills for a reason... if you want them, become a survivor (however temporarily) -- boxy talki 09:56 8 January 2008 (BST)
  15. Kill - as above--CorndogheroT-S-Z 13:26, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  16. Kill - Building a superior physique as your body festers and rots away? Signing up under NecroTech as an employee while they attempt to suppress you? What's next, learning the intricacies of surgery while you rip people's throats out? A big no. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 13:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  17. Kill - Unrealistic. As others have pointed out, gaining necrotech employment as a zombie in particular is unbeleivable. Just wait until you're revived (happens all the time to me, wheter I want it or not) and then buy the skills.--SeventythreeTalk 13:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  18. Kill - This leads to Hel characters and that we do NOT want. ChrisForelle 19:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  19. Kill - Do not want. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 20:35, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  20. Kill - Kill it, Zombies shouldn't have Necrotech employment because that implies that they actually got hired while undead. Even so, the Zombie's limited brain capacity wouldn't be able to recognize a Necrotech building from any of the other buildings around the city. If survivors with fully funcional minds wouldn't be able to recognize these buildings without being employed by them, why would a Zed whom has the intellect of a rabid eight-year-old be able to? --User:S. Andrews 18:00 (EST) 8 January 2008
Kill- Bleh.. --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 01:41, 9 January 2008 (UTC) Unjustified vote struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:27, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  21. Kill - As everything above. --Private Mark 05:25, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  22. Kill - Survivors get their own skills because there are inherent differences between zombies and survivors. - Inky 21:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
  23. I am on a voting spree, but to make this vote valid, I'm in agreement with those above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:49, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
  24. Murder//Death//Kill This is kinda dumb... ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 02:52, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  25. Kill - I guess it would be more balanced (maybe?) but it doesn't make any sense at all. Ciaran Deckardson 12:27, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  26. Kill - My above vote was stuck so.... yay... I don't like this suggestion at all <_< --/~Rakuen~\ 22:58, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  27. Kill - Makes no sense, how does a zombie build muscle or train with guns? If you want survivor skills, get a revive... --ToastrlordT TSA 23:30, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
  28. Kill – As others; Uncle Bill said the most. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 12:21, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  29. Kill - Unbalances gameplay and difficulty to implement, (example: you grab Body Building + Zombie Equivalent = 70HP?) It is too easy to get a revive to implement such a change to gameplay mechanics.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  04:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam/Dupe - the Spam part is NecroTech Employment. There is no reasonable roleplay reason to provide a zombie with a skill called NecroTech Employment. The Dupe part is zombie body building - which is covered already in Peer Reviewed, in the Brain Rot tree, by Preserved Ligaments, and also by Aberrant Form (which also provides a zombie flak jacket). The jacket is also covered separately in Dead Flesh. You had a good idea, sure, but it's been covered before. (If this suggestion isn't Duped, I'd like my vote to count as Spam on the same grounds as given.) --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:17, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
