20080125 Weighed Down

PdeqTalk* 20:15, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Improvement.

Suggestion scope
Everyone

Suggestion description
Have encumbrance affect chance to hit with a melee attack. That is, any non-gun attack would have its chance to hit multiplied by a "hit factor", based on the encumbrance of the target. This hit factor would be applied after any bonus (such as tangling grasp). This would affect any sort of interaction, be it zombie attacking human (or vice versa), or human attacking human, or zombie attacking zombie. (Note: zombies can drop items, so this would be incentive for them to do so, unless they are planning to use those items in case of a revive.)

Encumbrance hit factor Comment
0-25% 0.9 This makes it harder to hit these people
25-70% 1 This does not change the chance to hit from what it is now
70-90% 1.1
90-100% 1.2
>100% 1.3

  1. Keep - I'm the author, and I think this would add some more strategy into the game. --PdeqTalk* 20:16, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

RE: Yes. It helps them a little bit. --PdeqTalk* 21:08, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep' - Finally a reason for zombies to drop stuff. --Uncle Bill 00:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Yes. No free lunches for high encumbrance, thank you. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 05:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep - Realistic, encourages diversity of strategy, fun. Not every survivour should eventually have the same skillset, the same items, etc. This will help repair the diversity that is sorely lacking in high-level characters. --Pgunn 16:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

  14. Keep - but needs a bit of simplification/better grammar.--Jed 07:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

Kill - No way. I need every spec of space in my inventory, yet I need my axe and crowbar to kill barricades and dead things. Note : I read it wrong, but I still don't like it. Note2 : Now I like it. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

  1. Kill/Change I like the concept. I do. I agree with the below 25% and above 100%, but not the bit in the middle.--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:00, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill No. It nerfs the axe and knife as anti-zombie weapons, as most dedicated zombies would simply drop all gear, or enough to get below 25%. This actually HURTS newbies, not helps them, as it is mostly newbies who use those weapons against zombies.
Also, checking target encumbrance while calculating attack results would likely add a fair bit to server load. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 21:48, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
RE: It doesn't nerf them. Even a maxed out fire axe only drops to 36% accuracy from 40% against a low encumbrance zombie, which seems a decent trade off considering that the newbies themselves are also harder to hit. As for the server, I have no idea but it was my understanding that such things are not good kill reasons (at least, per the voting guidelines.) --PdeqTalk* 22:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill Swiers said it better than I could.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  22:06, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill I have no idea how much I'm encumbered, and it's not listed on the settings page. As such, I'd be unable to make an informed decision as to whether to dump stuff to reduce the chance to be hit, or whether I'm fine and don't need to drop anything. --Ms.Panes 22:28, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Also, you could simplify the table by making it .9 for below 25%, 1.0 for 25-74%, and 1.1 for 75% and above. --Ms.Panes 22:31, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
RE: Your encumbrance is listed right above the "drop" button. --PdeqTalk* 22:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
    I don't see it. I'm a zombie right now. Is it only visible if you're a survivor? --Ms.Panes 23:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

  5. Kill Swiers makes a good point. This would ultimately harm new players. Sheana T / TMZ 22:44, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Chanage - Make it so a Flak Jacket on zombies will raise them to 1 level. BoboTalkClown 23:45, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. kill - don't like the numbers. Someone made a point about flak vests which is a good point! Make the catagories 0-25%, 26-75%-76-100% and 101%+ with flak vests adding an extra 25% to the total (in addition to their actual enc) and it gets a keep. As it is its just a new survivor nerf/zombie buff that further focus's the game on shooting! --Honestmistake 00:25, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - as Swiers and Funt--CorndogheroT-S-Z 03:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Change - Make it so that the below 25% bonus only applies to melee weapons, not including unarmed attacks and then make the penalties apply to firearms as well. Boosts axes and knives while still getting the desired affect and not hurting newbies. --Heretic144 05:37, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. What about the encumberance of the attacker? Wouldn't it be possible that person loaded down with 100% encumberance be harder to get a damaging hit with all that crap they are carrying? And wouldn't a person carrying so much crap have a harder time trying to hit?--Pesatyel 06:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill Swiers makes a good point. Now, maybe if you altered it so that zombies would be exempt from either the bonuses or penalties of having a certain level of encumbrance I might vote keep.--SeventythreeTalk 12:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 15:20, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
  13. Kill - Just a not-very-well hidden attempt to increase zombie hit percentages against survivors, as survivors don't tend to use melee attacks. Give me a decent offsetting survivor buff and we can talk. Maybe my shotgun gets better accuracy if I'm not weighed down carrying stuff... - Headshot Hal 15:46, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Survivors frequently use melee attacks. My zed gets hacked at all the time, and my survivor uses his axe quite frequently. There are many places where ammo is not so easy to come by. --PdeqTalk* 00:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  14. Kill - It's a cool idea, but the numbers aren't right. It seems like another zombie buff with no drawbacks. It would make it harder for newbies to hit zombies with low encumberance, as well. --Ciaran Deckardson 16:02, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
What would you prefer the numbers to be? --PdeqTalk* 00:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  15. Kill - this needs to be tweaked a bit before i can get behind it. also has anybody addressed if this would impact melee attacks on barricades or simply humans/zeds?--Scotw 17:16, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
This does not affect attacks on barricades. --PdeqTalk* 00:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  16. Kill - Nobody carries less than they can. It is just stupid. So this would only benefit zeds and idiots. So no. --Vandurn 19:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
People carry less than they can all the time. Unless you're living in a mall and constantly searching all the time, you're going to use up your faks, needles, and ammo, which would drop you below 100%. As would setting up a genny. It's very difficult to keep yourself constantly at 100+ encumbrance. --PdeqTalk* 00:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
