20080215 Don’t Free Run into ruined buildings

Common sense change Suggestion scope
Survivors’ Free Running “skill” Suggestion description
From what I understand, when attempting to Free Run into a ruined building, you usually get hurt when falling below. Before the update, when falling to the ground didn’t hurt, I didn’t mind the flavor. It was like this: So you are approaching a ruined building, and you know you are going to end up outside, but rather than using the building’s fire escape like you used to before you learned how to Free Run, you simply Free Run onto the ruins anyhow, and have your drunken ass land on the ground. Okay, funny.

But now that it hurts you to do so, it’s incredibly stupid to attempt to try to approach an obviously ruined building from the air, yet you’re forced to be so stupid as to do so anyhow! This is just unacceptable. If you know you can’t make it inside a building across the street, are you going to try to jump to it and risk injury, or are you just going to walk out the door and onto the street? I imagine anyone with common sense would choose the second option. So why are we forced to behave so retarded in the game? It’s bad enough that we load a pistol clip into an already-loaded pistol rather than the empty one. Now we are forced to try to fly to a building that we’re not going to make it to anyhow, getting hurt in the process!? Just because a number of survivors choose to act stupid doesn’t mean we should all be forced to!

Summary-Free Runners who attempt to move to a ruined building simply exit their building normally and walk over to the ruins, just like non-Free Runners do. Free Running is a SKILL. It does not replace normal movement!

  1. Keep=Because the zombie spam squad are starting to annoy me.Studoku 02:37, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep because a skill should not prevent an ability that was formerly available to a player. And, I want to spite the ZSS--CorndogheroT-S-Z 02:48, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - You spammers don't seem to understand. Free Runners are FORCED to hurt themselves. Stupid? I think so! I belive in harman-nerfing, but making them do damaging actions because they BAUGHT a SKILL is baaaaad! --BoboTalkClown 03:16, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - Lol, I enjoyed reading your mini-rant. Nice suggestion! It really doesn't make sense that you would know how to jump from rooftop to rooftop, and yet you're so dumb, you deliberately make yourself slip and fall. --Hhal 03:34, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Author Keep - Because the zombie-trenchcoating spammers believe that this minor change will somehow swing everything back in favor of the survivors.--Kolechovski 04:16, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep - Ay. The Zombie spam squad is in full force I see. This is a perfectly sensible suggestion, for all the reasons stated above. Cheers to the author for bringing this to light.--Dr Doom86 06:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Die-hard zombie-spammers demonstrating their love for a balanced game there. Anyone can exit any building, whatever the cades are, to an adjacent block, whether it has a building or not. You can never get locked in a building. There, that's that fallacy cleared up to start with. Now, the dude without Free Running can move from block A to block B, where he ends up outside, with no chance of damage. The dude with Free Running can move from block A to block B, where he ends up outside, and may even hurt himself. Yes - the guy with the skill gets retroactively punished for having bought it. Or - let me put it this way - would it be okay to alter Lurching Gait so that there's a chance that the zombie falls over and smashes his stupid face on some "icy rubble" for 5HP damage? No? Then wtf are you voting Spam for? Oh, riiiiight - it's because you like the game to be unfair to the survivor side. Now I understand. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! VICTORY 11:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Logical --Heretic144 19:51, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep - Logical. Can't see it sabotaging zombies too much.--SeventythreeTalk 19:55, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I don't free-run into ruined buildings, but I see what your getting at.--Jamie Cantwell3 02:28, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep - Like what Funt Solo said. --FXI 05:17, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep -as Studoku, Funt, and 73 ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 19:42, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep I don't mind ruins have negative effects, like hurting survivors who move to them from inside adjacent buildings, but selectively harming those with free running doesn't make sense. It would make more sense if anyone moving from an adjacent building just gets hurt because they're walking over debris. *blinks* Oh crap, did I just ask for newbies without free running to suffer injury too? --Jon Pyre 23:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
  15. Keep/Change - This is good, but there needs to be an option that nullifies this in the settings. If you WANT to fall to the street, then this is a whole other issue. --Vandurn 13:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
  16. Keep - Makes sense to me --Rick Best 20:38, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Seems logical. At least if you use human logic. Zombie logic I've never quite understood. It seems to involve quite a lot of spam. - Headshot Hal 15:44, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Current system in place is balanced and fine.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  04:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. At best, I could see maybe a % chance that you don't try the jump (and thus don't get injured). But Kevan implemented it for a reason.--Pesatyel 04:49, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - I enjoy the strategy consideration involved in making sure to exit to a non-ruined square. Few places lack at least one open square next to them. --PdeqTalk* 07:33, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. kill I don't like the current mechanic and would rather see a fairly major change. I think the chance of injury is fairly low to be honest and I would rather see it boosted top about 50:50. If you fail then you fall and take the damage, if you pass you free run into the building. It would add uncertainty and risk but still keep freeruns utility. --Honestmistake 12:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill I hate this suggestion. --The Gecko PKer 15:10, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill - What we really need is a way, when free-running, to decide to skip that and head out the door. This is largely orthoganal to the ruin mechanic. --Pgunn 18:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Adapt Already Aren't the survivors still surviving because they adapted? I adapted the first day of the update, I don't know what's wrong with you that ya haven't learned to Free Run off to the side into another square and move around outside until you find an enterable building via a ruined EP. I got two murderers and they have to adapt just like all you other breathers. ----Secruss|Yak|Brahnz!|CGR|PKA|800px-Flag of the United States.svg.png|EMLN|Templates|RRF|RFTM|Crap|WHOZ|Evil3.gif|MU|GN|C2008|Chippy.gif|21:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Think. It doesn't hurt to. If you're going to get hurt, clearly you shouldn't go that way. I see where you're coming from, but I don't like this idea. --Howard Bentley 23:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Strong Kill - Doesn't this just basicly undo part of the last update? what the hell? Its not even a real problem, I know because im surrounded by the damn things everyday and the % to hurt yourself is horrible, and it actually opens up hurting yourself so you can help other survivors get xp. I agree don't be an idiot, but there's a smart way to go about it as well. I agree with the vote directly above "Think", but not just how to avoid it, how to use it to your advantage. Being a lead training officer I smile at the new update.--Zach016 01:48, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill - Kevan would have implemented this if he intended it that way, instead of giving a -10HP penalty. --Private Mark 07:12, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - My character free runs all the time through ruined buildings, and not once have I fallen down. And anyway, by the time a newbie gets free running (Assuming they didn't start off as a scout), they will carry around atleast one FAK. And to what Funt says, when you fall on ice in real life, it only hurts a little bit. Falling off of a slippery roof hurts alot. Since zombies can't feel pain, it would make no sense to give them a penalty. FYI, I prefer my PK and photographer over my zombie. I just think that with such a minor chance of getting a small injury, it's not going to kill newbies on a mass scale. And this slippage is only a seasonal thing, we aren't going to have it all year round.--Normal PhobicC 10:46, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
  12. strong kill - needless. --WanYao 14:53, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
  13. Kill - While this a logical suggestion, Kevan DID implement the falling from buildings thing, and that implementation would be entirely pointless if he also implemented this. Let's assume he had a good reason for adding it. There certainly is no good reason to add it, and then make it so it never happens... SIM Core Map.png Swiers 21:30, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Oh! Look! Another whining survivor trying to nerf the update because it's not easy any more. Shock me, shock me, shock me with that consistent behaviour! Why don't you just leave? Well perhaps because some idiot (probably yourself before you went to sleep) over-caded the building so you can't walk out the door until you use some AP to remove the cades blocking you in. Also Urban Dead doesn't protect stupid people from themselves, we have a suicide option already, should we take that out because it's dangerous? Grow up. If you're too stupid to realise that jumping towards a ruined building might hurt, then you deserve to be on 5HP and die when you fall through the roof. -- Iscariot 01:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
RE-I'm not trying to do anything to the update but remove the extremely contradictory part of it, and that would do little to change the update. I'm not trying to protect stupid people from themselves either-I'm trying to keep it from FORCING us to act stupid. That's a huge difference! What I'm trying to get at is that non-Free Runners don't have to jump towards a building-they just take the fire doors out. Well, why can't Free Runners do the same?--Kolechovski 01:50, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't force you to act stupid. Don't want to risk it? Don't fucking move towards a ruined building. In case you're too dumb to know, you can't free run out of something that's above VSB into an open area, i.e. street level. You are trying to nerf the upgrade and change the mechanics of a skill to allow you to free run to ground level without penalty. Tough. You have two options, free run to the ruined building and risk the damage or spend the AP to take the cades down to VSB. And don't fuck up the numbering again. -- Iscariot 02:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Correction: YES, you can free run from a heavily barricaded building into an open area. This is common knowledge. Before you flame the author, please make sure you know what you are talking about. Not trying to insult you, just saying you need to get your facts straight. Cheers!--Dr Doom86 10:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - as above, don't nerf it just cause it makes the game a little harder for the survivors....--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 01:54, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Stupidest shit I've ever seen. --Druuuuu OcTRR 02:14, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Oh so many reasons, but most importantly that you are significantly changing the Free Running mechanic. Oh, and FYI, Falling from a Ruin can not kill you It's weak, rare, and pretty much useless. You're literally complaining about nothing. Oh, and do not remove Free Running's only downside--Karekmaps?! 03:15, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Spam - Die in a fire. --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 05:04, 15 February 2008 (UTC) Unjustified vote struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 10:21, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

  6. Spam - As Karek. --The Hierophant 05:42, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam/Dupe – Dupe of ingame. "…simply exit their building normally and walk over to the ruins, just like non-Free Runners do." As long as your current building is VS, you can already do this. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 08:37, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam/Dupe of ingame - as Revenant. If you don't want to free run into other building, leave your building and walk to another. Of your building is above VS - free runnig is the only exit. --~~~~ [talk] 08:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spam - You aren't forced to freerun into ruins. You already have the option to find an alternate route or simply leave the building. If you must go that way (to save AP for example) then the possiblity of taking a small amount of damage is a trade off you need to be willing to take. Secondly, when you load a pistol, it goes into the first empty gun in your inventory. Check your facts before misquoting them and don't make suggestions to compensate for a lack of strategy. --Uncle Bill 00:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
RE - It's not a lack of strategy. I think all the spam/kill voters need to make a couple level 1 alts, one a Scout, then see for yourselves the ways to move from buildings. This has absolutely nothing to do with cade levels or anything. It's that Free Running is taking AWAY FROM the normal movement you can do before getting that skill. This makes no sense. That is my problem. What you should be able to do is leave the building through the fire escapes, just as a non-Free Runner can do, when moving toward an obvious ruin. If you gusy try this with a Free Runnign and non-Free Runnign alt, you should see the problem I am talking about. I think too many zombie players here don't seem to have ever played the survivor side...--Kolechovski 22:27, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

  11. Spam - It happens so rarely that theres no fucking point. If you want to be cushy and safe, go play something like carebears online. Its a zombie apocalypse people, its supposed to be dangerous. Falling is nice flavour and of no meaningful danger at all. Boo hoo, i lost 5hp, i must now throw myself off a building to ease my shame... geeze people. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 17:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
spam - ridiculous. no one is forcing you to move anywhere. ruins are clearly indicated. and the chance of injury is actually quite low, and the effects minimal. get friggin' over it already. adapt. or play sims. --WanYao 16:07, 23 February 2008 (UTC) You are only allowed one vote per suggestion. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 01:48, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
