20080409 Exit buildings when HB or higher

Kolechovski 04:51, 9 April 2008 (BST)

Suggestion type
Improvement/logic fix Suggestion scope
Heavily barricaded buildings Suggestion description

CURRENT GAME MECHANICS--

When a building’s front doors are HB, you can’t enter or exit through them. You can still leave by upper windows/fire escapes by clicking an adjacent block, where you take the emergency exit nearest that block. The problem I see is that you can exit to ANY adjacent block, even with the main doors HB. This seems to mean that every side of your building has at least 1 emergency escape, including the side with the main doors.

Example-Assuming the main doors are on the south side of the building, and they are at least HB, you can’t leave onto the street in front, but somehow you can leave to the building/street across from your building (the block to the south)! This is a common-sense conflict. And I have a simple solution…

SUGGESTION--

When you try to leave onto the street directly in front, you can still leave via the fire escape on that side of the building. But before you do so, you’re given a warning, “The doors have been heavily barricaded. You can still exit the building through a fire escape, but you will be unable to get back in. Do you really wish to leave the building?” And the “Leave building” button becomes “Leave the building, anyhow”, very much like the jump-from-window dialogue. This fixes the logic flaw without any change to the game's functionality, and it greatly lessens confusion among newbies (we all know how often they complain about being "trapped" inside buildings).

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep - Because pi=3.141592653589793238462643383279502884... --Kolechovski 05:08, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Keep - I've been annoyed on many occasions that I can't just exit a building to outside that square. Somehow I can freerun out of an HB building to an adjacent square but never to the same square? Huh? --Zardoz 05:18, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - So... your point is that you want a message to appear from now on asking newbies if they really want to leave an HB building? --Private Mark 05:34, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: If leaving through the front doors. Any movements made by clicking adjacent squares are unobstructed.--Kolechovski 00:19, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - any kill/spam voters deserve to be mocked, when they arrive--CorndogheroT-S-Z 06:16, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep - Gimme a K, Gimme an E, Gimme an E, Gimme a P! As Zardoz.--Tselita 07:21, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  6. KeeP - With a capital P.--Studoku W! 13:27, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  7. Keep - Why not have a simpler way to leave the building since it's possible anyway. There's even a button already in place for it. Keep the warning though. --Explodey 16:18, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  8. Keep/Change - Keep the ability to leave, but lose the "are you really sure?" part. The double IP hit would really suck. --Uncle Bill 21:15, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  9. Weak Keep - Why not, it's harmless? And... I'm also voting keep because, though I don't think we need this at all... most of the kill voters are crack monkeys who don't even seem to understand the suggestion or mechanic they're voting on. --WanYao 23:28, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  10. Keep - Whatever, keep it is.--Jamie Cantwel3 07:01, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  11. Keep - Makes sense to me.--Carnexhat 04:09, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  12. Keep - agree with previous point. Meatshield 17:28, 21 April 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Ok, here i am for the mocking. I regularly exit buildings via that method (in fact i only recently discovered the 'leave building button' and would find the double action (as well as the double IP-hit) an irritating inconvenience.--xoxo 07:26, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - Current system makes sense. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 07:29, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill - no reason to change current mechanics. p.s. 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406289208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647 and it's only 120 digits after comma, pi still doesn't equal it --~~~~ [talk] 07:44, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: PI IS EXACTLY THREE!!!--xoxo 07:51, 9 April 2008 (BST) Non Author RE AND messed up the numbering.--Pesatyel 08:52, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Isn't it easier to debarricade from inside then outside? You want to leave, you gotta control the barricades--Pesatyel 07:59, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: What does debarricading have to do with it? Besides, it's actually easier to decade from the inside. And you can always leave no matter what the cade levels are. This is the kind of constant mixup that would be fixed with this kind of suggestion.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  5. kill emergency exits? Ive been using sucker guns, grapplying hooks, secret ladders and jet packs for years. Barricades are great but they have their downsides. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:31, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: I don't really see what that has to do with this.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  6. Kill - No! Why mess with the game mechanics? "suddenly, emergancy exits appear all over Malton"? Ugh. --Vandurn 13:45, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: The emergency exits (or whatever you want to call them) have been around since the beginning I presume. As long as you could be inside a building, click on a different block, and go right to that block, you've been using them.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  7. Kill - Over-barricading needs down sides in order to discourage it. This is one of them, so leave it be. --The Hierophant 13:59, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: Overcading has absolutely no impact on your ability to leave a building, with or without Free Running.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  8. Kill - As various of the above. -- The Lethal Trio [Tlk|NTCS|RRF] U! E! 16:54, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  9. Kill - no. go buy free runing. --Jack S13 T! PC 16:55, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: No. Read the Game Mechanics section. I put that there to stop ill-informed responses like this. If you are unsure of the workings beyond that, take it to discussion.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  10. Kill- Disrupts the flow of the game. -- BKM 18:26, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: How could it possibly do that? Few people even attempt to leave through the main doors anyhow. Usually, it's just the newbies that use them. And this would save at most 1 AP for a person intentially exiting along the front. I fail to see how that alters flow.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  11. Current system is fine. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:12, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  12. Kill - Works fine, the only people this could help are those who go directly outside to shoot the zombies outside and do you really think a game change is necessary to give a few more XP to idiots? Really? --Riseabove 21:52, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: They still have to go find an entry point again. At most this saves them 1 AP. How many XP do you expect them to get with that 1 AP?--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  13. Kill - I see enough newbies stuck outside...--  21:54, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  14. Kill - Free Running needs to be toned down, or ruining buffed. - Grant (talk) 21:55, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: This has nothing to do with either.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  15. Kill - I can't see how this would be a good change. --Jasonjason 22:22, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  16. Kill - As above. Would be irritating.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  23:23, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  17. kill- How it is is why the level 2's OTHER skill is Free Running. Also this destroys the crowbar's meaning and I like to kill the crates.--Rofl. 01:51, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re: This has nothing to do with Free Running, changes in cades, or your ability to bring them down.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  18. Kill - Unless, you make zombies able to enter through the fire exit for 1 AP no matter how much the building has been barricaded, I vote kill. --The Gecko PKer 02:43, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re: Well, then survivors would have to be able to enter through it as well. And at that point, cades are completely useless.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
    Re: Only if survivors gain HP and XP when zombies attack them.--Carnexhat 04:09, 11 April 2008 (BST) Non author RE. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:53, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  19. Kill We've all done this one time or another. It's been a long day at work that's turning into a long night. You go outside for just a minute to clear your head when you hear <click!> Yup, you just walked out a security exit and let the door close behind you, and there's no handle on this side. --FrozenFlame 07:25, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  20. Kill - as Gecko and pretty much everyone else. Also, I'll vote no until you can learn how to format a goddamn suggestion. Sheana T / TMZ 20:52, 11 April 2008 (BST)
Re: WTF is wrong with the format of my suggestion!? I copy-pasted the template. And why would format be a legitimate reason to kill a suggestion? I think you're missing the whole point of the voting system. And if you whine about teh format, either fix it or show me what's wrong with it and how to fix it, and I can prevent these issues from that point on.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Not now, and never will be. Quite redundant and will also unfortunately frustrate the poor survivors who accidentally click 'exit' while on a searching spree, and find themselves painfully stranded outside the mall with 1 AP or so. Oh, and mock me. Just try it. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 14:05, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Re: That's another reason it's a 2-stage process, just like jumping out a window. You'd have seen that if you'd have read the whole suggestion.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Spam - Do not buff barricade do not buff survivor movement. Also probably a dupe.--Karekmaps?! 02:03, 10 April 2008 (BST)
Re: This does not buff barricades. At most, this saves survivors 1 AP in the rare instances they wish to exit directly in front of their overcaded building.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Spam - no reason to add this. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:30, 12 April 2008 (BST)
Re: It's a logic-flaw fix, and one that I think would have no negative impact on the game, so I see that as a perfect reason to add it. It's kinda like correcting mispellings.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Yes.--Thekooks 12:42, 20 April 2008 (BST)
Re: "No." I'm pretty sure that vote isn't anywhere near being valid.--Kolechovski 00:17, 23 April 2008 (BST)
