=== Traveling Zombie Problem ===
That's a traveling salesman problem I see there. It's NP-Complete, ya know, and did you also notice that your path takes 28AP, when it says it takes 27AP? Because of that one little mistake, I took an interest in finding a shorter path. One thing led to another, and next thing I knew, I had lost a few hours and written a program to brute force a solution for the shortest path. It ended up being a waste of time, since all of the paths it found were ones I found on my own before writing the program, but the best it found is 27AP, which basically just amounts to uncrossing those paths you crossed. I also ran it for if you took out the phone mast as a point to go through, and it found one that takes 26AP, which I had already found on my own as well.
So, basically, I just wasted a few hours programming something that only managed to find paths I had already found on my own. The good news, however, is that it could be used to find other routes in other places in the future. The bad news is that the problem is NP-Complete, so brute forcing it takes a ridiculous amount of time, relative to the number of points. 14 TRPs only took around 3-5 minutes to solve, while 15 took 20-25 minutes. I shudder to think how long it would take to solve 16 or more. Regardless, I hate you for putting Computer Science crack on the wiki, especially so since the program can be improved upon in order to make it run more quickly (e.g. it's an easy problem to multithread or approach heuristically, neither of which I bothered with right now), which only fuels the addiction. I wouldn't be surprised if I come back to it in a day or two to make modifications to it, and it's all your fault. 07:31, 15 September 2010 (BST)

::That's 30AP to include the FS? I haven't computed that one yet, since FSes aren't considered TRPs any longer (they should really be removed from the BIC, I think), but I can get it cranking anyway, since it'll probably take my computer quite a few hours to reach a final solution and it has nothing better to do anyway (it's already found a 30AP solution and is still going after only about 5 minutes of running). As for the 27AP path, you actually already made the necessary corrections. Your earlier image had a path which crossed itself at one point and took 28AP, despite what the text said. <s>Your current image is fine, however.</s> You'd only need to remove the FS again to have the 27AP solution. 07:57, 15 September 2010 (BST)

::::The computer may be able to calculate it that quickly, but it still took me quite a few hours to tell it how to do it, most of which were spent on fixing inane bugs (e.g. "What the hell? The path length looks on par with what I expect but the path it suggests doubles back on itself 6 times and takes 54AP!" or "How come it never goes to the factory at 52,41?"). Yay for deciding to fool around with recursive programming for fun after not having done it seriously in a few years. 08:22, 15 September 2010 (BST)
:::::Oddly enough, a similar thought crossed my mind. The thought process over those two hours was roughly: "How do I do this again? Do I butcher OSPF, or maybe calculate the average distance between every point and a chosen point, then do so for each point? No, wait, skip average, base sum of all paths connected to a point will do. ...now what? Ummm...start with point with highest value, then move to next highest and so on? Err, well, that's one value for a shortest path value (41). Maybe from largest, but move away from it as fast as possible with the lowest cost on each move. Yeah, that gets me a much lower value 927). Is it the lowest though? Crud, how do I determine that? Maybe average path value summed over all points? No, too large (59). Umm, umm...crud, out of tea error, GPF: Insufficent Resources, entering sleep mode." -Wulfenbach 08:30, 15 September 2010 (BST)
I dunno the rules about data gathering for each suburb BIC, but what if I just wanted to know the power/ruin status of those TRPs? It would be interesting to find out what is the shortest path for that. --Aeon17x 08:34, 15 September 2010 (BST) | I dunno the rules about data gathering for each suburb BIC, but what if I just wanted to know the power/ruin status of those TRPs? :Well, the point of this pathing was to give people the best path for AP cost to check all the TRP buildings in Ridleybank. Following it would give you (from external inspection only) whether or not the buildings are powered and/or barricaded. If you wanted ruin status, well you'd have to go into each. 15 buildings would need 15 more AP to enter each one separately, but I recall working out that with free running you could use just 4 or 5 AP to do the same. -Wulfenbach 08:41, 15 September 2010 (BST)

I've been using the radio daily to inform anyone on 26.34. I had a neat idea to finally sign up with the wiki and update the status. I think you are the one that runs this page correct? I can give a daily report of the mall from here on out since you mentioned that nobody has given a report in two weeks. Soo.. with that said I still dont know how to change the happy face picture. ; ; Zombies are eating us but I dont know the numbers that are outside. The status pictures are very specific from x number to y number. How do I update it and how do I choose the correct one? - 1930hrs July 11, 2010. :(Damn. 18:16, 29 March 2010 (BST)
I was wondering if you could help me...Right, so I'm bored at the moment. I don't really have much to do on the wiki, save the occasional orphaned page. So, I thought, what needs doing on the wiki? Location block demerging came to mind, and as a result, so did you.[/preamble] Basically, I was wondering how one goes about demerging location blocks? I have nothing better to do, so I was just wondering, as I may set about doing some in my spare time.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 10:27, 13 March 2010 (UTC) Large Barricade Plan TemplateHello RED! Noticed some of the nice work you've done around the wiki and thought you might be able to lend a hand with something I've been playing with off and on in my sandbox for a while-- a large version of the barricade plan template. Not quite as big as the map you have in your sandbox, but similar in size requirements. The idea was to take the individual barricade plans for a district in Malton and combine them into one nice table so you could get the ideal barricade situation for an entire district. Also tried to get it set up such that if the plan for a suburb changed, the district plan would automatically reflect that. Over the course of a couple months work and talking with Rooster, we got that much figured out. It still looks pretty rough though, so wondering if maybe you had thoughts on how to spruce it up so it looks nice and neat before implementation for all 20 districts of Malton. --Maverick Talk - OBR 404 18:31, 26 September 2009 (BST)

I was starting to use necrowatch a lot in the past week because eastern Rhodenbank is just a mess with the zombie incursion from Dulston and it became a matter of habit that I check necrowatch to scout ahead. I figured I might as well update the buildings that I travel through too to help other survivors. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing on the wiki that the building is "safe" a week ago then free-running with your last AP into a ruined building with 10 active zombies Oo. I will probably hang around Rhodenbank area or within one suburb radius for the near future ... see you around OO Willie 10:55, 21 October 2009 (GMT+8)
Whitlock building in Dulston just became my grave ... I was dumb to stay alone in strategic buildings inside a hot zone and Dead Animal parachuted in and lit me up like a christmas tree before proceeding to turn the building into a pinata. He have since reverted to his zombie status and we are still inside the building ... may just annoy him by smashing down the barricades before leaving for a revive point in Rhodenbank. --OO Willie 13:40, 4 November 2009 (UTC) Just got an update from Lazerwolf, looks like Rhodenbank is gutted like a fish. Hope you made it out okay. I am currently in Rolt Heights around Lovell auto repair and St Hermann hospital. I got 3 revive syringes, 10 medkits and a fuel can. I am probably going to head to the factory and police station @ southwestern part of Rolt Heights to scrounge for a generator and ammo before heading to the suburbs that the MOB just smashed to rebuild. a naked manYes, it's him. So the racist troll is spamming Santlerville radio from Rhodenbank. How brave. Feel free to blow his head off until he shuts up/runs away/quits the game for good. I've heard someone said he was leaving the game because of all those racist remarks. The troll must pay for that. By the way, another racist accomplice of his (or maybe even his alt) is Jack Heins, here. This is one broadcast I heard myself. He doesn't only spam the radio, but also the Wiki as well. And he is blocked indefinitely for that. Santlerville, and ultimately Malton, would be better without those two. P.S. I'm starting to think my updates to the Great Radio Messages have been spams and insults a lot lately. Perhaps I am too easily amused, or too fond of dark humor and sarcasm. And as a result, my entries aren't that "great." What do you think about them? -- Kittithaj 21:08, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

There's no need to make this any bigger than it needs to be. We're both already on a crusade, just do as the nice man asks and neither of us will have to go on a massive search and destroy mission spanning months due to Malton's size. We can be friends. Tally Ho, Watson!Just a theory here, but... Red Hawk turns up for the first time in late 2008, shortly after the history purge. He immediately jumps in to Danger Report and suburb news updates, making none of the tell-tale newb errors. He "creates" a group, but the only reference to it is a template, and no actual group page was ever created. The Group, BLU, is no longer referenced anywhere in the entireity of the wiki. He later writes off the group and joins RCDC. During hsi time on the wiki, he rapidly discovers the BIC, works on it tirelessly, and takes on the ultimate project, demergign all merged location pages. This task was finally achieved on 13th June 2010. Three days later, Red makes his last edits to UDwiki, and on the 19th, he visits the dulston alliance forums for the final time, my last recorded instance of him. My conclusion; Red Hawk One was an experienced Wiki-User, and was created for the sole purpose of upgrading the Building Information Centre. That leaves the ultimate question; If Red Hawk wasn't just a random user, who was he? I have an answer to that too. Vantar vanished from Urban Dead towards mid-2008, and his final edits in september are only a month before the Red Hawk One urban dead account is made. Then, less than a month ago, Vantar returns to UDwiki with no adequate explanation. The reason is that he's been operating udner the alias of Red Hawk One the entire time, and never left. If the timings weren't good enough, what does Vantar do when he returns to the wiki? He finishes Red's ultimate project, essentially writing off the need for the account. The facts match, the dates match, and, to a large extent, the mannerisms match. The only question is, will checkuser match? I shall now go, accompanied by any sysops who wish to join me, to checkuser to see if my theory is true.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 00:15, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Blackmore:4(04)How would you like to participate in a somewhat unique wiki project? One thing I have always wanted to do is for a given event, is to have two different versions of that event: a survivor POV and a zombie POV version. Blackmore: 4(04) would be a great test case. The way it would work is the main link to the event would use the currenthour magic word. We would make 24 redirects. Even hours would go to a survivor version page; odd hours would goto the zombie version page. Both pages would have cross-references to the other one. Perhaps a template at the top saying it is a zombie/survivor version and if you want the other one, go here. A poorman's version of using currenthour as a random variable is my userpage, which pulls different images depending on the hour visited. Unless you know of a different way to have a random variable? Anyways, we have the basic framework of a more zombie-centric POV for Blackmore:4(04) somewhat ready to go. To keep the styles consistent, we will probably use the same WAR nav-sidebar you are using, as well as the interviews at the bottom (which are solid btw), if that is ok with you. Is this something that would interest you? -MHSstaff 05:38, 10 September 2010 (BST)

Traveling Zombie ProblemThat's a traveling salesman problem I see there. It's NP-Complete, ya know, and did you also notice that your path takes 28AP, when it says it takes 27AP? I also ran it for if you took out the phone mast as a point to go through, and it found one that takes 26AP, which I had already found on my own as well. So, basically, I just wasted a few hours programming something that only managed to find paths I had already found on my own. The good news, however, is that it could be used to find other routes in other places in the future. The bad news is that the problem is NP-Complete, so brute forcing it takes a ridiculous amount of time, relative to the number of points. 14 TRPs only took around 3-5 minutes to solve, while 15 took 20-25 minutes.
