What is Pay It Forward?

Pay It Forward is a survivor policy to increase the speed of revives. In a nutshell: You get a revive, you give a revive.

A survivor who dies and wants a revive generally shambles to a revive point, posts a revive request to let others know his or her location and desire for a revive, then waits for the cavalry to arrive. But wait: If you’re waiting at an RP, you could be waiting there alongside others who wish to breathe again as well. When you get revived, you might as well take advantage of the fact that you are standing there and pass on the favour to another survivor by reviving him or her. This can be a way to clear waiting lines at RPs quickly.

Here is a list of suggestions to make this idea work:

  1. Every survivor with NecroTech skills should try to carry a few syringes at all times. Replace them before you run out.
  2. While you are waiting for a revive, save profiles of those waiting with you to your contacts list.
  3. Each time you get revived, stand up and revive somebody still waiting.
  4. Even dedicated survivors should purchase the zambah skill Ankle Grab: The 9 AP you save standing up from a revive is 9/10 of what you'll need to Pay It Forward by reviving another survivor.

Advantages of Paying It Forward

  • More frequent revives
  • Shorter waiting times at revive points
  • More survivors on their feet to combat the zambah hordes
  • Spreads the AP cost of reviving more evenly among the entire population, rather than among only a few dedicated revivers
  • Well suited to loose-knit groups, as it does not require a great deal of co-ordination
  • Builds intra-survivor goodwill -- the person you Pay It Forward to today might be the person who revives you next week
  • Builds goodwill between groups -- groups whose members Pay It Forward are likely to be prioritized at the revive point

Disadvantages of Paying It Forward

"So what do I do?"

First, of course, you should follow the policy: carry syringes, use them when you get a revive, and encourage the person you revive to do the same.

Spread the word! Tell everyone you can about Pay It Forward, both in-game and through meta-gaming. The best way to spread any policy is through word-of-mouth.

"I already do that"

Many players do, and that's good. Pay It Forward is designed to reach those who don't.

Even if you already revive upon standing, please use one AP before the needle goes in to ask them to do the same. Remember, in a busy RP, you're not just talking to the person you revive, but to everyone still waiting.
