Rolt Heights is a suburb of Malton, located in the northeast section of the city. Of note, the suburb contains several locations of interest including one of Malton's most famous pubs, the Burchell Arms (89,17), the Gold Monument (80,19), Mare Towers (85,15), the The Riddell Museum (84,18) and the adjoining IMAX Fanning Cinema (84,19). Rolt Heights is considered by many survivors as a somewhat undesirable piece of real estate in post-epidemic Malton due in no small part to its complete lack of NecroTech facilities. While these very useful facilities are still accessible from adjacent suburbs it still makes controlling the central area of the suburb harder for survivors who must travel farther in search of revival syringes. Zombie density is somewhat higher here than in neighboring suburbs for this very reason.

Rolt Heights - Come for the atmosphere, stay for the beer!

Before the outbreak Rolt Heights was known for being an industrial neighbourhood. It is the site of Banfield Park, where a major labor rally was held in the 1940s during the Rolt Heights General Strike. The strike was considered very controversial with even the suburb's churches being divided on the issue. Preachers from the westside churches provided aid to the strikers while the northeast churches threw their support behind the strike-breakers. It is known that the Rolt Clan became central figures in many of these labor disputes, having earned their name from the suburb they had claimed as their own.

In the few years prior to the "Malton Incident" the old industrial companies had already begun to wind down and work became harder to find. As Rolt Heights' economy had always on industrial labor many high-tech companies shunned the somewhat backwards suburb, including the mega-corporation NecroTech. Many believe that it was due to this slow spiral in economic poverty that, in the span of a single generation, the children of the previous generation's factory workers had become interested careers that would find them work later in life, unlike the types of jobs their hardworking parents had toiled at over the decades before them. Now educated, most moved from the suburb to locate jobs as office workers or obscure scientists elsewhere, as both professions were considered growing industries in Malton. With what little hope Rolt Heights had at recovering gone the suburb seemed to have finally met its end and on the eve of the outbreak most of the factories were either closed or had already been torn down, leaving behind only sparse wastelands of broken brick and glass as reminders of the thriving industry that once was.

With five factories and few office buildings those who remained in the suburb belonged mostly to the working class. Still, there were also hipster entrepreneurs drawn into the suburb by its shady nature, who worked together to construct a nightclub district in the middle of the neighborhood.

Things to do while in Rolt Heights

  • Drop by for a Pint! - Looking for a nice cold draft? Well then the Burchell Arms Regulars welcome you to come on down to the Burchell Arms. The Burchell Arms is a traditional English pub located in the suburb of Rolt Heights along the border with Pescodside to the east. The Burchell Arms also boasts comfort in times of trouble and cool refreshing beer, all provided by the bar's regulars. So come from a pint of beer or two, or three, or four. But who's counting? Stay around for a while and kick back in the safest hole in the wall the suburb has to offer with a friendly environment and a place to crash from the infestation of zombies!
  • For SCIENCE! - Sure, Dulston and Pescodside may have their "Museum Mile", but all their museums combined cannot compare with the wonders crammed under the one roof that is the Riddell Museum. Yes, you'll be amazed by the collection of horrific oddities, potentially dangerous experiments, and unattended shiny red buttons. But please remember: no touching, poking, prodding, kicking, spitting, shooting, puking, bleeding, or dying, on the exhibits. And most of all: Do not ride the bomb!
  • The Wonders of IMAX! - Tired of seeing the same thing every day? Burnt out cars. Dead people. Zombies? Well why not visit the IMAX Fanning Cinema and enjoy an inspiring film that you could say is, "larger than life". Ha-ha! While the movie selection is limited, when you consider the alternative you'll be coming back again and again. See you soon!
  • Load up for the Long Haul - Low on ammo? Need a Flak jacket? Stop on by, as the Rolt Heights Vigilante Patrol has the building secure as their HQ, keeping the nearby streets clear of rotters on a regular basis. Why do you think there are few zeds around the PD, except during massive sieges? Big Guns, plenty of ammo, and enough members/nonmembers inside for a small Malton army. Come on in today! (Ayliffe Street Police Department is not for everyone; breaking in as a hostile zed may induce side effects, such as death by buckshot, walking into strange conversations, and witnessing hot lesbian sex, consult your Necrotech revive point before entry.)
  • Make a Leftist Pilgrimage No, Karl Marx isn't buried here. Actually, some say he's shuffling through the streets somewhere. But with the rich radical history of Rolt Heights, some socialists and anarchists like to venture to Rolt Heights to pay their respects to some of the great landmarks of Malton class struggles. They visit Banfield Park, St. Romuald's Church, and the local factories.
  • Get Eaten! - When all you've been there, done that when passing through Rolt Heights, your friendly neighborhood zombies are more than willing to help you enjoy the joys that "Rot Heights" holds for the undead. The Manbagz Zahmbahz and local ferals guarantee that if your not dead by the second day outside, then the brainz are on us! Drop dead into Rolt Heights today!

AquaBarricade.jpg
Barricade Policy

While not enforced, the Rolt Heights Barricade Plan is supported by survivors groups within the suburb. As a precaution survivors are advised to review the plan and be aware of potential barricade levels throughout Rolt Heights. If the barricades at a specific location do not match the plan survivors have the right to lower them, but should know that lowering barricades may draw ire from survivors at that location - especially in the east, where the Burchell Arms Regulars have established and kept to a long term local barricade plan for the area.
