Suggestion

to be fair, i only acted negatively towards you in my comments because you blamed me (or people like me) for ruining the suggestions page. and to be honest, i did read your entire suggestion before voting, i just chose to point out the dodging bullets part because i think it is a bit silly. --Scotw 21:28, 4 June 2008 (BST)

to be more civil, i decided it was best to remove my 'shitty suggestions' comments from the page, sorry about that --Scotw 21:39, 4 June 2008 (BST)

Deutsch

Yeah not only is it a cool sounding language, it's also cool sounding when people sing it(or when they are screaming angrily at you. Either way it's still cool.) Honestly, they probably remember it because they were born learning it. My foreign friends say that English sucks so bad because of all the rules we have. At first I thought they were joking, but then I thought about it and realized English does have a lot of rules. BTW depending on the context, the word cool changes in the German language. In literal, as in its freezing cold, kalt would be the word used.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 01:35, 15 May 2007 (BST)

Well I was checking the GC page and I noticed that the guy that PKed me wasnt added, so I went to our old forum and I see that it was turned into the zach forum, so now I dont have that guy profile. Hey, I'm retiring one of my alts soon (needs near 200 xp to bem maxed) since he is a loner, and not too fun to play, and since I already played the 3 basic rols (combatant, supourt and zombie) I thought I should start a PKer, I have already created him, and started to get some xp. Shartak

You're absolutely right, it's me! But in the last few weeks I didn't really feel like playing Shartak, logged in just once a week or so. Well it's not on the DHPD boards anymore, but a few months ago Marty Banks posted a folder called 'MirrorNewsSourceFolder' which was apparently the Mirror's template PDF. Didn't use it, but I started the Gazette a month or two later. And said 'hi' in a mocking fashion on Mirror discussion out of slight appreciation, I guess.

Bridge Suggestion

I'd like to explain why you don't have to worry about zombies over-running a bridge network. Yes, zombies can use this tactic to their advantage, but only if survivors are lazy. First, survivors shouldn't be hanging around a sieged suburb anyways. As Caiger has proven, all buildings eventually fall, and everyone inside gets eaten. Second, do you honestly think that during a siege, when everyone's busy screaming "ZOMBIE SPY!" and "ZOMG BOTZ" that the bridges will last for more than a few seconds before someone who's paranoid destroys the them? --SirensT RR 20:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

A forum?!

Hmm...I never liked the idea of a secure forum, and I argued a lot with a CMS guy about them...the wiki just seems a lot simpler and it helps involve more people. Also, this is fething UD, not a top secret nuclear missile silo.

However, the NMC forums have shown be the vague benefits of a forum, especially when it comes to in-character stuff.

So, if the group likes the idea of a forum, then yeah, sure, let's go for it. And thanks for running it by me first.--Lachryma 23:56, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Re-Nifty

  1. Well, I mean truth be told, oldies aren't my forte. But I do love me some funky jams. The Meters are basically Gods, in my book. And while the Beatles may not be definitively funky, they're basically the greatest band that ever has/ever will exist.
  2. Ha! There was no number two! GOOD ONE!
  3. CERN looks like a pretty solid plan, but actually putting into action seems pretty difficult to me. It seems like this would take at least three or four dedicated groups to pull off, and that's just for Caiger. My other concern is that with that many NTs, won't the crowds be spread pretty thin? It seems to me that without a bigger meatshield, the zombies can break in and wreck havoc with less chance of someone being able to re-barricade before the zombies reach critical mass and effectively take over the NT. On the other hand, with that many NTs, I suppose the whole point is that no one building is essential, and the others can fill the void. Really, I'd like to see this in practice - I think it could make revives possible pretty much indefinitely, but the coordination required is a bit daunting.
  4. Double Ha!

--Andre Aloisius 04:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC) (whoops. Well, um, better late than never?)

I dunno, while it could spread the manpower out a bit, I think it's still feasible. I think a presence of 50-75 or so survivors in a corner is an acceptable (if threadbare) number to prevent/fend off the typical zombie break-ins - or anyway, this is what I saw at Stickling.* The extra 300-400 survivors could then spread out through the NTs and form the combat teams you were talking about.
The way I'm currently envisioning it, perhaps these extra defenders could be a more or less mobile unit - in other words, they could function as the counter-attackers to take back ransacked sections of the mall, which might possibly be quite necessary due to the smaller number of defenders in the mall proper. If this were the case, then I think some kind of massive coordination would be necessary within these combat teams. Maybe you could split the teams into groups ala X:00 tactics, so that at a certain time each day a different group would be available to take back ransacked sections of the mall?
Once again though, we're talking about mass coordination, the likes of which hasn't ever really been seen in survivor groups, to my knowledge.
  • - I've read posts that say Caiger has housed like 1200 survivors during a siege - is this accurate? Because, if so, daaaaayumn.

--Andre Aloisius 04:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I think mass isn't totally inaccurate in this case. I mean, if we're talking about retaking a ransacked mall corner, we're talking 40+ zombies, right? Maybe it's just a semantics thing over the definition of the word "mass".
Incidentally, what about decreasing the number of NTs in the CERN plan? It currently has something like six in it, right? I think it would still be effective, and possibly more feasible, if the number was reduced to three or four.

--Andre Aloisius 00:15, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I understand your zone thingie - it makes sense and all, I'm mostly just thinking about a way that it could actually be tested. Like, it's hard enough to get people to stay in the one NT building nearest a mall. Perhaps it'd be easier to start smaller, with two or three functioning NTs at a time?
And yeah, no problem, I like talkin' 'bout this stuff too.
On the topic of counter-attacks to retake ransacked buildings: Why couldn't we do that? In this case, by "we", I mean GC. I think it really could be feasible if we had about twenty people at least. What if, during the next Mall Siege, we held off until the fighting got intense enough (and this is crucial, because anyone actively taking part in the defense already stands a good chance to be dead on the ground at this point), and swooped in at the last minute to retake a corner?
Course, we'd need all the people in GC to agree to that, and it would have to be pretty spectacularly timed, but I'd definitely like to try if possible.

--Andre Aloisius 00:43, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Oooh, I like this idea. Talk about wasted AP! I do see one problem with it right now though, and that's making sure the defenders don't try to hold/barricade/retake the NT. Because, in theory, the regular entry points shouldn't be over barricaded at all, so what's to stop them from doing the same thing to these NTs? I suppose, once it was ransacked, people wouldn't really focus on it too much, but it'd be even worse if they did, because survivors would end up wasting more AP than zombies if they tried to retake it.
Still, if it could be pulled off, I think it's great. Kills two birds with one stone. The zombies are forced to waste AP, and there would be a permanent entry point.

--Andre Aloisius 08:05, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I better not lose that mall (No, no, you won't)

Ooo, nice lyrics you got there. The video link helps too, and I think the song really meshed well. Speaking of that, did you see Cap'n Silly's Green Day lyrics on the Ghetto Cow/Zach page?--Lachryma 23:46, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Does it count if we clicked it while sacrificing a Mac to the computer gods? Or if we were forced to click it by flying monkeys? I'm just curious, you understand...--Lachryma 05:38, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

  • You know you loved it, Specialist290. I had to go all the way over to Google and type in "dancing homer" to find that pic. I don't do that for just anybody. And Lach, the fact that you've been involved with flying monkeys angers the Gods, for they believe that flying monkeys have an unfair advantage over pedestrian monkeys in terms of grabbing bananas from trees. Luckily, they also hate Macs, so you're in the clear. --Skitchipoo 05:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
    • Yes! I...I mean, that's nice to know, but I didn't click it. Yeah, I was just curious, you know...--Lachryma 01:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Mall Tour...or not!

I can tell you right now that being a feral is kinda lame (see my suggestion about new zombies, by the way) and I hated never getting XP. But maybe you'll have better luck, so just let me know if you want to join us, and I'll tell you the super secret attack time.--Lachryma 23:12, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

The Perryn Building (Dulston)

I read the message you left about the Perryn Building so I decided to check your update. I see you only made a small change specifically to the person the building was named after, which as far as I'm concerned is perfectly acceptable in the grand scheme of things. In truth it's better, because now it links up to more facts elsewhere in the Urban Dead Wiki rather than just being one isolated reference for one location. Now you you had re-written the entire wikipage after the effort I put into it, that would be something else, but that's obviously not the case here. So I have no problem with it. --Mobius187 January 30 2007, 8:00 AM (EST)

Mall Tour!

Hey, you got a newbie zed...Well, me, the Cap'n, Ev933n, and zombie slay3r are with the Mall Tour, and my newbie zombie has gotten a lot of XP from that. We've been setting up a time to attack all at once (I've heard two zombies can take EHB easily...imagine 5!), so let me know what you think.--Lachryma 02:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Sooo...

You're the second person to ask that! Anyway, we were thinking about going to defend some random mall against Mall Tour '07 when Latrobe gets boring. I thought that would happen pretty soon, but the break ins have gotten more coordinated recently, and the revive lines have grown longer. The fight just heated up!--Lachryma 16:59, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Songs, cadences, that sort of thing

Well, you may be a fan of the Beatles, but you should check this out!--Lachryma 00:24, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

I didn't say that's all you liked! Just that you were a fan. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. I think it's a touch rough (mostly the 'replied with a whole lotta' and the following lines), but I don't really feel like improving it. Perhaps our resident songwriter might mess with it a bit? Or not, it's all good.--Lachryma 23:22, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't know about the tune, but you would be marching to this (so it'd be 'Left, Right, Left Right'). I don't think it's the same tune, as saying this cadence to that tune sounds messed up and doesn't work.--Lachryma 23:34, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Nifty :D I suspected that there was more than one person doing the radio stuff, but I thought yours was particularly interesting, especially as it was based on a selection by the Beatles, the same group where I get most of my material. Hi, a mate of a mine and I were reading all the so-and-so killed so-and-so messages on logging in at Caiger and we sez to eachother we sez "all Caiger needs is love". So naturally I had to go and look up the Beatles lyrics straight away and broadcast them. That is the story of the making of a hit.

Coincidentally, I have seen one of your songs on the wiki. I cited it some time ago on the Red Army talk page. So I didn't actually imitate you, but I'm sure I would have if I'd thought of it :D --GrownUpSurvivor 20:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

No problem with the revive. I almost didn't wander over to the cemetery, as there are rarely people to revive, but you got lucky! I've seen your Caiger song before, and thought it was okay, but I really like the barricade one (mainly because I remember how 'Let It Be' goes and not 'Yellow Submarine'). You can join GC or not, I have no idea where we'll go after this siege. Maybe Ridleybank, maybe the next mall to be hit by Mall Tour '07 (if that gets off the ground), or maybe someplace insane, but it's all good.--Lachryma 05:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the second verse is a touch fethed. I imagine you'll improve on it, no? Ooo, you're going to do a journal? I'll be looking forward to that.--Lachryma 06:07, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

New song!

That's awesome! I know I'm addicted to Recent Changes, but some times it shows cool stuff!--Lachryma 03:20, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, it doesn't matter so much the song, but its more about how much enjoyment you got from writing the song. For instance, my comics have eye-gouging illustrations and some occasional lame dialogue, but I love making them! Anyway, you sound like a hard core Beatles fan (I just recognize their songs on the radio), so I think it's really cool you get such a kick from making zombie songs. Can't wait to see what you slap together next (and I'm still waiting for that journal)!--Lachryma 05:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, yeah, go to sleep. I have a Hamlet essay to work on...You know, changing a fethed up tragedy into a comedy is pretty tricky, but luckily this essay isn't supposed to be very long. Wow, someone else curious on the wiki?! Usually I'm the one going 'Hey, that's cool' or 'Why do you have that? Are you into that?', but it's a welcome change of pace. Um, I like to write short stories, especially fantasy or sci-fi, I read a lot, and I follow events in the Middle East very closely. That's just some random things off the top of my head. What about you? How did you get so in to the Beatles?! Huh?! Huh?!--Lachryma 06:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Ooo, you like sci-fi? Have you ever heard of the Gaunt's Ghosts series? It's some of the best writing I've ever seen and my favorite books. Anyway, I read a lot, constantly, and its kind of annoying. I read really fast, but it sucks because I can't afford new books all the time. Luckily my long term memory is lame, so I go back and reread all my books every few months.
I don't really play any sports, but I love to watch soccer. I got lucky this summer, as I was in France so I could catch the World Cup...except the last couple of games (I don't have TV at home). Yeah, I play computer games too. Mostly RPGs, but occasionally my friends talk me into playing a shooter or RTS. I wasn't into zombies much, but one friend of mine was really obsessed. After he moved away I started getting into zombies (he's in the Marines now. Oo rah!) and Soviet stuff, his other obsession. I miss that guy.
As for music, the only 'oldies' I listen to are Talking Heads or whatever my mom happens to be listening too. I'm mostly into rap, especially British hip hop. Go for it, mock me all you want.
A two AM quick edit to the wiki? Did you wake up with inspiration or something? Luckily I get today off, but I have to go to town for groceries (two hour drive for food=annoying).--Lachryma 17:18, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Reproduced again! 1337!!: By the Gods, BoSs has attacked another group?! I'll write something in The News about it later tonight, maybe, when I expect to enjoy a large amount of scotch. I say "maybe" because I'll be in the company of a certain Pirate Hooker most of the weekend, so that may warrent the greater part of my attention. I'd write something up now, but I find that my Ron Burgundy voice is best after scotch and also it's noon and I really need to go to bed and then get my apartment in ship shape!

As for a revive, I'll do what I can and I'll put the word out. It'll probably work best if you send me your profile and location (I'm near Bale Mall) so other Fine Citizens can help you, too. I've seen the PK-day thing, but only in passing. Thanks for pointing me toward a more concrete source. I'll stick it in the news if it becomes something big and something to be guarded against. Until then, writing something about it will probably get it a good amount of traffic and help it along. I'll keep my eye on it, though! You stay Classy! --Ron Burgundy 00:29, 10 May 2006 (BST)

I'd be glad to make you guys a template! How big do you want it? There seem to be two standard sizes, 250px and 500px. I'm not much for wiki programming, myself, and have just been gleaning things from other templates and changing them around a bit to see what does what. As for text... well, it just now suddenly became 4:30AM... so if you've got anything in mind, send it to me and I'll do it in the morning- err, afternoon. If not, I guess I can make a short blurb from your wiki page and then show you how to change it, should you so desire. While I'm finishing my drink, how's this look?

Symbol3.png The Crimson Wolves
The Crimson Wolves have made a living of slaughtering slightly undead people whose only sin is their addiction to devouring other people alive.

The code is right here, so you can poke around with it. Use the "Show preview" button to see what changing certain things does and the rest should be pretty easy. If you save it to Template:CrimsonWolves, you'll be able to stick it anywhere by writing {{CrimsonWolves}} (case sensitive) somewhere. Also, make sure to use the <noinclude></noinclude> things on the template page for everything but the template, itself. If that doesn't make any sense, I'd be glad to do it for ya! --Ron Burgundy 09:54, 12 May 2006 (BST)

LUE

Hey, I'm currently a member of LUE, though I was a member of The Undying Scourge back in olden days, and wondered what you think the best defense against a horde like LUE. Don't worry, I hold no authority and no one listens to my advice about anything so even if I wanted to "spy", it wouldn't matter.

Anyway, I ask your opinion as a notable survivor/defender because as a typical zombie I've always found the most effective defense against me/us is heavily barricaded empty or nearly empty buildings. I guess you'd call that "River Tactics". It just bores zombies out of the incentive to play. But it's boring to survivors, too, and if everyone did that all the time, no one would bother to play UD. Hence the trenchcoaters who are actually the lifeblood of the game by fighting in ridiculous situations and giving zombies incentive to keep playing which in turn makes the "zombie apocalypse" have some ring of truth in it (I'm personally of the opinion that it should be set up so that a zombie horde can take any given target it sets its sight on, but obviously I'm biased).

The same idea above expressed in a broader way is that the best way to beat a successful horde is just to offer no resistance worth fighting. This also, then, includes said zombie group suffering no setbacks or epically challenging opposition (like that Twilight Zone episode) and just run them out of the game with victories a la Shacknews. But that's kind of like Zapp Brannigan's solution to Killbots and obviously none too appealing. Plus, other than the RRF, most groups rise, live, and die within a few months regardless of all other factors.

I basically figure LUE will get bored with the game before faced with a true challenge. Maybe it's just cockiness (I'm sure it is) but level 1 zombies took out a mall in a handful of days and since everybody got to level 3 or so, it's just gotten easier, ransacking one corner in minutes, taking the whole mall in a day or less. If enough time goes by for the average LUE zombie to be level 10, it'll more or less take another game mechanics update to even slow them down. This is all only as far as I can see and I'm obviously no expert or privy to special information.

So I'm asking you how you would stop LUE with things as they currently are. The Undying Scourge failed at Caiger (along with everyone else) due in a large part to game mechanics no longer in effect and exceptionally poor leadership. As things stand currently neither will be an issue with LUE. Given 500 to 1000 survivors, how would you stop a group of 300+ coordinated zombies and assorted ferals?-Insomniac By Choice 06:30, 6 July 2007 (BST)

RE:Tactics

Thanks for the in-depth response to my question. I really only have two more: first, where in Malton is your ideal location for a defense and second, how many people would you need to "absorb" the initial strike of a group of 150-200 zombies and, say, 400 total zombies feral and organized combined? Assume that coordinated attack times change too often to do anything but try to guess.

On a somewhat related note, I noticed reading about Shacknews's Lime Brigade that they held out longer than they should have. Any insight into why they were so successful (even if they were ultimately defeated)? -Insomniac By Choice 03:59, 7 July 2007 (BST)

Tactics in Insomniac By Choice’s talk page

I recently read your, 'article' if you will, on Tactics in Insomniac By Choice’s talk page and was quite impressed with the amount of detail and thought that went into it.

As I currently play a survivor (Ryiis is my wiki name and UD character name), I find your ideas very intriguing. After all, I think it would be fun (and a great challenge) to organize an area, or building, into something "fortress-like". As well, the idea is also somewhat pertinent to the current situation – as LUE goes rampaging around, it seems like there is no active group that can stop them. That isn’t to say that there is no organized resistance, because there is, however from what I have seen… nothing has worked against the Blitzkrieg-esque tactics that LUE employs.

That being said, I think that what LUE has done is amazing – from a personal, logistical, and gameplay standpoint – as I have never witnessed something like this before (I am, also quite new). If a survivor group could do something like that… to be able to hold out against such a siege… or perhaps make an in-road into zombie territory… even if that said survivor group only took and held one building for a few days, in territory that is dangerously well-held by the zeds – it would be something to boast about. --Ryiis 01:45, 18 July 2007 (BST)

LUE hit Dowdney Mall last night in case you didn't know. Worth updating your cunning plan? I don't know. But LUE is looking for an epic battle somewhere and C4NT has always been good at rallying and organizing as well as fighting.--Insomniac By Choice 06:40, 30 July 2007 (BST)

Ron Burgundy!

Thanks! It's good to be back! Are you coming to our cookout in Scarletwood? There will be cake- and zombies. --Ron Burgundy 03:28, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

No worries, buddy! I've been down the school path and reckon I'll be going down it again come fall of next year. Regardless, good luck keeping up with that and if you have some free time, come on by! We won't forget about ya!  :) --Ron Burgundy 15:00, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
