20080325 Start with clothing

Kolechovski 15:03, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Flavor-clothes Suggestion scope
Everyone Suggestion description
Suggestion: When creating a character, the player gets to choose starting clothes (basic male and female varieties) based on their class, rather than either having to find the appropriate building (or get killed and become a zombie).

Currently: Although firemen, policemen, doctors, and NTs start in buildings they can get their work clothes from anyhow, military characters, civilians, and zombies don’t usually get to start anywhere with relevant clothing. (Zombies can brush off the dust to reveal what they were initially wearing, though.) It’s quite odd that military guys can’t wear military clothing (unless they head across city to the overcaded forts).

So I’m thinking that at the start of the game, when choosing a character class, you’re given the option to pick your clothing based on your class. The selection would be based on the major class types.

Civilians-get the current selection zombies have from brushing the dust off, as well as female clothing included (dresses, skirts, high heels)

Zombies-same garb as civilians (since they’re slain civilians), but also toe-tags, hospital gowns, straightjackets, and any other basic “victim” clothing

Military-the basic fort clothing

Scientist-I guess civilian clothing

In addition, remember that the scientists, cops, and firefighters start in buildings relevant to their jobs, so you can immediately update their garb into work attire as soon as you appear inside the building (or leave them in their off-job clothing), so for simplicity reasons, I think having these basics types available right from the beginning are easiest (and logic-friendly).

Keep Votes

  1. Keep/change- I prefer the idea of doctors, NT guys, cops and friefighters starting with their building's clothes, but I can see your point about the starting locations.--Studoku W! 15:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: This would still allow them to start with their clothes, because they spawn in those buildings that have them. If it is easy to implement, it would be preferred to include those class-specific clothes in the list as well, but right now, I'm not trying to make things too tough on Kevan to implement.--Kolechovski 15:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
    ReRE: Fair enough. I'll just vote Keep then.--Studoku W! 13:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  2. Author Keep - This idea is absolutely rediculous! Who the hell would come up with something that actually makes sense!? I did??? Oh...uh, in that case, I guess I might as well vote Keep.--Kolechovski 15:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - Makes sense, small change but kinda cool. Also adds another process to creating a character, even if it's just clicking the "next" button, or whatever. Might make things harder for zergers.--SeventythreeTalk 15:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - NEVAR!--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 15:35, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  5. Keep - Seems sensible to me.--Carnexhat 15:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep - Sounds like a plan man. -- Cheese 16:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Why not? -- John RubinT! ZG FER 16:22, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

  9. Keep - Sounds logical.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  16:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep - Adds a little more atmosphere to character creation, and that's a good thing.--Jiangyingzi 17:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep - If this is implemented, would pre-existing military get a one time chance to put on the clothes or would we still have to go to a fort? --FXI 17:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: Well, that depends on how Kevan implements it, but I really think the change should affect all prexisting characters, so that all those who weren't given such options would get them one time. I want it to work that way, anyhow.--Kolechovski 17:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep - Why not? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 17:42, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep - I like this one--CorndogheroT-S-Z 17:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep-zombies around or not, let's keep things moral, and don't allow people to run around sinfully naked--James beckerson 18:12, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  15. Slight Change - Because you don't come into the game with the option of choosing which gender you are, just keep civvy and zombie clothing to gender-neutral stuff. Pants, shirts. If I make a new character with an obviously male name, I don't want to wake up as a transvestite. --Vandurn 19:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  16. keep - i also do not want to wake up as a transvestite --Scotw 20:00, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
RE: To you and the guy above, you would not be forced into female clothing, you would just have the choice of any of it, as it already is in any buildings that offer female clothes. This would simply allow the females the option of female clothes. Or males, but I prefer not to think of that too much.--Kolechovski 21:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  17. Keep - OMG SURVIVOR BUFF TOTAL SPAM!!! Seriously, what could you possibly have against this??? --BoboTalkClown 20:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  18. Keep - Makes sense. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  19. I thought we could choose when we create a new character...Ah well. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
RE: You don't, unless you create a zombie (where you can choose what you were wearing after you start), or if you wait and get killed. If you start in a building that features clothes, it only features the specific clothes of that building, not the generic stuff you can get from being a zombie.--Kolechovski 21:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  20. Duh - --WanYao 21:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  21. KEEP, GODDAMMIT - If only this had been the case when I started. I could have had a cool hat. --Officer 123satsitx 21:26, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  22. Keep. Normally I wouldn't mind everyone being naked, but then there's naked zombies! No. User:Jordan Salafack » JS talk contribs » 21:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  23. Keep - Clearly an unbalancing Survivor buff, but I'm voting keep anyway. --Themanwhocares4 21:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
  24. BoboTalkClown, it may confuse newbies --~~~~ [talk] 22:38, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

  31. Keep - Finding the right clothes for my guy was half the fun, but this would be cool and helpful to rule playing. Ha, you would not believe how happy I was when I found a black fedora for my guy; it was like finding the Holy Grail.--Jamie Cantwel3 - [link] 06:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

  38. Keep Though its worth noting zombies already CAN start with toe tags. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 02:49, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  39. Keep - Nice idea just make sure that the harder to find and "special" clothing isn't an option so you do have to run around to get it --Dipcup 16:00, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: Right. This simply offers the basics to everybody. They still have to go find their special gear on their own.--Kolechovski 18:43, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  40. Keep - I'm playing the cymbals on this bandwagon. --Akule School's in session. 21:47, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  41. Kill - this is much reasonable and logical. and according to the kill's opinion that u have to get the clothes you want. that makes sense. but you are wearing something already. it's that you a doctor won't do operations naked and a cop won't patrol the streets naked. if u want other clothes, you do have to get them, but u must start with some clothings of course. --RayHanley 12:36, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  42. Keep - Makes sense. --PdeqTalk* 10:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  43. Keep - I agree at the moment i'm at Rodges stadium i started at greentown and i headed to nichols mall to get a kilt, at the stadium to get a hockey mask and i'm of to fort creedy when it's safe to get a beret so if i can already have it i would be help retaking it. --And25 18:02, 30 March 2008 (BST)
  44. Keep - Makes sense... --Nitro378 18:50, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  45. Keep - You start with you're occupational clothing, then whatever you scavenge after that you can wear. I like it! -- The Lethal Trio [Tlk|NTCS|RRF] U! E! 19:36, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  46. Keep - Now that makes sense.--Luke Skywalker 14:47, 5 April 2008 (BST)
  47. Keep - Sensible, and to counterpoint the Spam vote below, you can always start naked under this system if you'd really like to. --Howard Bentley 04:12, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  48. Sure.--ShadowScope'the true enemy' 04:30, 8 April 2008 (BST)

  2. Kill - part of the point of clothing is that you have to go find it if you want it -- boxy talki 10:11 27 March 2008 (BST)
Re: Zombies don't have to go anywhere to find it. Not the basic stuff, anyhow. This suggestion only allows people to start with the basics. They still have to go find the specific stuff.--Kolechovski 18:34, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Women in high heels? Thats practical in a zombie apocalypse. Clothes are an added extra that people who want to RP can add, if everyone has the same clothes it makes them all but pointless. The military point however is valid.--xoxo 04:53, 8 April 2008 (BST)
