A/PM#Cyberbob

Got any objections to it? Linkthewindow  Talk  11:50, 19 June 2009 (BST)

Nothing that would honestly keep him from being promoted. Of course he should separate his abuse from his sysops actions, but that shouldn't be a problem. I'm also a bit worried about his behavior completely degenerating once he becomes an op, but now that we have precedence for demoting bad ops, that's also not a problem. What about you? Your thoughts and opinions?--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 00:19, 21 June 2009 (BST)
That's pretty much my thoughts. He's clearly got the experience needed for the role, and seems to have the wiki's best interests at heart. As long as he keeps his trolling separate from his admin duties, I'm fine with his promontion (and as you've said, we've got precedent for demoting bad ops, even if it is a drama minefield.) Unless you've got any last-minute thoughts, I'll do the heavy-lifting on A/PM soon. Linkthewindow  Talk  00:30, 21 June 2009 (BST)

Promotion Bid - Cyberbob

Well maybe, if we stop voting for sysops who are aggressive and abuse their power, then such a wonderful place might exist. Oh, and I added an archive.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:41, 11 June 2009 (BST)

If sysops abuse their power they are taken to Misconduct. Civility has nothing to do with any of a sysop's powers. --Cyberbob 08:59, 11 June 2009 (BST)
Most of the cases on Misconduct are about sysops.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 10:46, 12 June 2009 (BST)
As it says on the top of the misconduct page "This page is for the reporting of administrator (sysop) misconduct within the Urban Dead wiki." Its hardly surprising most of the misconduct cases are about sysops. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 10:56, 12 June 2009 (BST)
Sorry, I didn't get that out right. There are cases against sysops at least once a week. You'd logically expect there to be cases of sysops abusing their power once every couple of months at the most.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 11:21, 12 June 2009 (BST)
Well this is it, we have so many policies, guidelines and people, we are always questioned. They normally appear in cycles. Get 6 at once, then a month or two of nothing. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:25, 12 June 2009 (BST)
Sorry but I don't quite get the connection between the volume of Misconduct cases and the whole civility thing? --Cyberbob 12:40, 12 June 2009 (BST)
Oh no, this isn't about civility, this is just SA having a lolzfit because I said the words "Abuse of power" in the middle of one sentence.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:31, 13 June 2009 (BST)
Lolzfit? Oh, that's rich. I made a single joke comment about it, and everyone else pounces on you while I ignore this section, yet some how I'm having a lolzfit over this? What, do you think just because Iscariot said all the sysops were bad and that we pick on people it means we do? Lolzfit my ass.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 00:34, 14 June 2009 (BST)
Also, you're being a nice little troll lately. For someone who got after bob for being uncivil and reactive towards someone else, you sure are acting a lot like him. Not to mention that your logic makes no sense.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 00:43, 14 June 2009 (BST)
Oh, and to top the icing on the cake, I looked back at my comment on your page. I didn't say anything about power abuse. You did. I said that the ops team isn't always fair, neutral or kind. None of that is explicitly an abuse of power. You can be biased and still make a ruling which isn't biased, which wouldn't be abusive in power. You can be unfair and not follow the vandal ladder when you feel a user doesn't really deserve that escalation. That's not being abusive, that's being compassionate. True abuse is something that rarely happens on this wiki. But keep going on your raegft about how the sysops are abusive, aggressive, and generally pick on people. Because I am so all over you about that comment of yours. Yep. So on it that I haven't bothered to say anything else about it until now.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 00:50, 14 June 2009 (BST)
Sorry, firstly, I meant Ross, I simply assuemd it was you because this is your talk page. Secondly, I never said you said anything about abuse of power, I said you (but it was actually Ross) got annoyed because I said Abuse of power. Thirdly, since I act like that, you'll notice I do not apply for Sysop positions. I made the point of opposing what he was doing entirely because he was. Finally, explain how Zombie Lord's suggestion (Not the above one, zombie Lord's) is anythign but what I said.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 13:52, 14 June 2009 (BST)
Ross is having the lolzfit now? Doesn't seem like it. He made a single sarcastic comment, and another one simply talking about the misconduct cycle. Lolzfit that is not.
Now, lets take a looksie at this quote: "Oh no, this isn't about civility, this is just SA having a lolzfit because I said the words "Abuse of power" in the middle of one sentence.--Yonnua Koponen T G P 23:31, 13 June 2009 (BST) " My bold.
Based off of that, it is logically sound to assume that I brought it up and was saying things about it. I mean, I don't see how you could even mess up and say something like that if I hadn't even talked about it.
Even if you're not running for ops, it's still pretty sad that you'll complain about the lack of civility of the ops, then go ahead and troll people yourself. You ever think that maybe, the reason why we come off as dickish and abusive is because a lot of users act that way towards us or others in general? It doesn't matter if they're running for ops or not get off your high horse hypocrit, don't bitch at another user for something if you're guilty of the same behavior.
You know why your logic is stupid? Because you're trolling and flaming him with no real justification. Lets take a look at another of your lovely quotes:":::::::People being annoyed by someone posting stupid ideas that have nothing to do with the game? What are you talking about? (Comment directed only at ZL)--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 20:09, 13 June 2009 (BST)". In this quote you're flaming him because he added a new idea that hasn't been introduced into the game before. Hmmm. What seems wrong with that justification? Oh, that's right. Half the damn ideas in the game were not in the game from the start. Please tell me why his suggestion is bad or whatever simply because it "has nothing to do with the game"? It's hard to suggest something that's already in-game without it being a dupe.
The confused idiocy you have been spouting on here is marvelous. Please, do go on with it.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 17:14, 14 June 2009 (BST)
Point 1: That's the same quote as before, but that's beside the point. Also, I used the word "lolzfit" to determine someone having a go, but not in a serious way, which appears to be what he was doing. Also, the whole confusion of who I was talking to was merely because Ross' sig kind of vanishes on this page, and it's your page, so I just assumed you were the one I was talking to. I amended this later. And I did not flame him because he was suggesting something which wasn't what the game is presently like, I was flaming him for suggesting repeatedly that we replace Malton with his Hardcore City, which doesn't have anything to do with the game, and is a completely new game. The method of healing he suggested would be completely resetting the whole of Malton, in a way which made the game completely different from how it presently operates. Said system would make very little sense, as it was made to rely on other aspects of his hardcore city, which would not be able to be implemented without creating a whole new city. Suggesting that is obviously ridiculous, so I felt that it was worthy of being shot down. If he wants to make his city, he should make his own game. It's fine when he's making coherent suggestions, but I just don't think him suggesting that we make it so that FAKs are useless is worth implementation.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 11:33, 15 June 2009 (BST)
I think it is noble that you have actively decided to not seek a promotion onto the sysop team. We would have loved you to have been a part of this biased, horrible and uncivil team, but I guess your inevitable promotion had to have been stopped somehow, lest you turn into one of us. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 17:16, 14 June 2009 (BST)
I never said biased, I never said horrible. I said that some members were impolite, which has sparked a miraculous problem. I never meant the whole team, and the point was that I didn't want someone impolite added to the team. Since such, Cyberbob and I have recommunicated these problems, and sorted otu the problem.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 11:33, 15 June 2009 (BST)
Many of the actual cases aren't about abuse of power, but guideline/policy violation. It's rare when a sysop actually steps over the line and attempts a coup. Most of the time it is just THIS page says this and you didn't follow it to the letter. Also, consider the source of most of the cases. Many are frequent fliers. --– Nubis NWO 14:29, 12 June 2009 (BST)

Ah. Sorry. There was a lot of stuff said, and a lot of comments moved, you know. Now, while there is only a single case (that I could remember or easily find. There needs to be some more organization there) of one user wanting another user to leave him alone, and that he ended up dropping it, it does not mean I am not allowed. There's a bit of precedence, and overall there is user name-space rights. We can make our rules, and if we want, we can have most of them backed up by arbies, and thus A/VB. Sure, the rules aren't used very often, but precedence isn't needed to follow the rules you know.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 04:40, 10 June 2009 (BST)

He comes around occasionally, but I've pretty much drove him away, along with the ops team because he was a dick. It's not just the blinking text though, I just don't want Thad on my page anymore. I'm not dick enough to remove blinking text from the wiki, because in some places it looks nice, even if I can't really look at it right now. Some people use it, I don't right now. How to make a suggetion

Hey, I don't know who to ask anymore and you might know.... I have a few suggetions to make for the game, and I don't know how the suggetions work anymore. They all use to be on the same page, but the rules have changed, and they're a little tricky now. They're all like "Make this page, add this group box to that flagbox with this link,..." and blah blah blag..... Could you put it in simple english for me? -Poodle of doom 01:05, 14 June 2009 (BST)

Alright, step by step.

  1. Edit this page and add this: {{Subst:NewSug|SUGGESTION NAME}} where it says to.
  2. Once that is done, click on the red link it will produce, the one with the same name as your suggestion. it will take you to a blank page that you should click edit if it hasn't already triggered the edit function for you.
  3. Once editing you should paste this: {{SugHead}}
  4. Done with that, you then press preview, then follow the instructions provided by the template.

I would suggest (because boxy isn't going to change his ruling) waiting to see if he starts pestering you again once the arbitration period is over. A rant from Giles

Okay, I am here to give you a piece of my mind in regards to your vote on the civility guide and how I perceive your actions. Before criticizing you, I want you to know that I'm not here to simply shit talk you or to start a flame war. I am coming from a place of sincerity, and I will listen to your response without automatically attacking what you say.

The way you went about voting against my guide through the use of a sockpuppet was annoying, and your general demeanor was childish. You taunted me in the discussion page, and rubbed it in my face when the guide failed to pass. You also struck the votes of my teammates without bothering to talk to them first.

Now then, I do believe that you were coming from a place of genuine frustration because you thought I was unfairly using meat puppets. But here is my specific problem: you could have just directly confronted me with your suspicions and told me why you thought I was wrong instead of resorting to snide quips and machiavellian tactics to "make your point".

Undoubtedly if I had stricken your sockpuppet vote I would have promptly been taken to A/VB. Do you enjoy laying traps for ordinary users? I sure hope not. While you acted within the letter of the law by not voting twice on the same guide, this feels vindictive and immature. You were probably convinced I was trying to screw up the voting process, but I was equally convinced that I'd done nothing wrong. And I'm willing to defend that position if you care to hear me out.

I hope from now on you'll try to resolve any issues with me through dialogue. I actually respond pretty well to logic and I can be made to reconsider my actions through honest, direct confrontation. I don't troll this wiki and I do try to make all of my edits in good faith, unlike some of your peers. Unless you have any specific questions or challenges, I'll let you have the last word here, since this is your talk page and I've completely expressed my irritation with you.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 23:19, 18 July 2009 (BST)

Can you prove it was a sock? If you say anything but "no," you need to re-think the answer. It simply couldn't be done (at the time), and he was proving a point by doing essentially the same thing you did - dig up other users to vote on something in your favor. In his case, he didn't have anyone to dig up, so he made a sock. When you understand that, maybe you'll understand the same frustration you feel about his sock is the same frustration he feels about your meatpuppeting. --Bob Boberton TF / DW 00:27, 19 July 2009 (BST)
By the standard you probably mean by prove - "no". Also, do you distinguish between asking your friends to vote freely and using false accounts to vote multiple times by yourself? (not what SA did, I realize). I'd like to get a handle on where you're coming from Bob.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 01:25, 19 July 2009 (BST)
I don't even ask friends to weigh in to begin with. I know of a few who regularly use the wiki - in both of my current groups, BI and the Fortress - but I don't point it out to them. Why? It's simple - my presence and opinion alone can influence their vote. Especially if the vote I pointed out was about something that I had created. I try not to do any influencing besides placing my vote on the page and then leaving it at that. I think users who weigh in should do it consistently, not one-off votes they have to be called to (except maybe sysops where their opinion is vital and they accept that responsibility when applying for promotion). Note Alvaro and Michaelson (sp?) haven't voted on any other guides, or participated in any recent wiki-vote at all. I'm not saying users shouldn't be allowed to weigh in unless they do it consistently, but it's just suspicious and an affront to democracy (lol internet voting) when you pull friends to vote on something you made yourself, and then not call them to vote for stuff you didn't make. If you're going to call on them to vote, call them to every or no vote, not just one(s) involving you. What are the odds they would disagree, especially since they (probably) didn't read any other guides? --Bob Boberton TF / DW 01:39, 19 July 2009 (BST)
That is an excellent clarification Bob. You didn't really address my question about sockpuppet vs meat puppet but that's okay. I do respect the standard by which you conduct your votes, though I disagree completely. We have vastly differing ideas about democracy which can be resolved on one of our talk pages. In the meantime, let's give SA a chance to respond to my original rant.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 18:45, 19 July 2009 (BST)
He wasn't laying a trap for anyone. He was demonstrating the irony of your victimisation from what he perceived as meatpuppeting. Having deliberately avoided that whole affair, I won't comment on whether I think it was valid or not, but I'm basically saying this was more of that than it was a trap to get you A/VB'd. SA isn't that sort of user. --ϑϑℜ 18:51, 19 July 2009 (BST)

I said that on the talk page because it looked like you were starting to throw a fit because your guide was voted out. I wanted to quash it before it turned into a full-blown shit storm, because I don't really know you and I had no idea if you'd try to start all sorts of shit over it. It wasn't taunting, it was being abrasive to prevent yet another giant flamefest. Sorry, but that tactic tends to work better than civility does here. That, and thank you for your input. :D

I wasn't exactly rubbing it in your face as I was looking at everything that started from the concept and idea of you meat puppeting and then it failing. It made me laffs. Shorry. :D

And last, as seen on DDR's talk page

Do you really not know or are you being cute? --Cyberbob 05:34, 7 July 2009 (BST)

I really don't know how you mean it in this context. I would think of meatpuppetry as being using alts or something to vote. --donuts by dayGiles Sednik CAPD SWApoetry by night 05:36, 7 July 2009 (BST)

That's sockpuppetry. Linkthewindow Talk 05:37, 7 July 2009 (BST)

No Giles, you are the puppets. (Meatpuppetry is like sockpuppetry, except they're actually different people. Like that Fiffy lazer beem eyes suggestion.) --Bob Boberton TF / DW 05:40, 7 July 2009 (BST) This too. Linkthewindow Talk 05:45, 7 July 2009 (BST)

Of course. Under sockpuppetry in the wiki, we find a subsection for meat puppet: "Editors of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia use "meat puppet" to deprecate contributions from a new community member if the new member was (apparently) recruited by an existing member only to back up the recruiting member's position." Of course I wouldn't stoop to that. A couple of members of CAPD and the SWA do already actively maintain wiki accounts and contribute to the wiki. I'm not above shooting them a link to the voting on our forums and asking them to make up their own minds. That certainly isn't meatpuppetry, yeh? --donuts by dayGiles Sednik CAPD SWApoetry by night 05:42, 7 July 2009 (BST)

It is, but only slightly. --Bob Boberton TF / DW 05:43, 7 July 2009 (BST)

Whether it's slightly or strongly meatpuppetry is irrelevant. --Cyberbob 05:44, 7 July 2009 (BST)

Isnt that what the democrats and republicans do every election? I also demand proof that he is meatpuppeting or im putting cyberbob up for misconduct--Imthatguy 05:48, 7 July 2009 (BST)

you're precious --Cyberbob 05:50, 7 July 2009 (BST)

Firstly, real life =/= UDwiki. Secondly, you're an idiot. Misconduct is for abuse of sysop powers (not just regular editing,) and Bob never accused Giles of anything. He warned him against meatpuppeting. Linkthewindow Talk 05:51, 7 July 2009 (BST)

Apart from anything else, Giles, meatpupeting is hella lame. It's a fucking guide, FFS. Some people don't think it deserves to be a reviewed one, and voted that way. Deal with it, instead of fucking over the wiki by getting your mates, who wouldn't have otherwise voted, to force it through simply to stroke your own ego -- boxy talk • teh rulz 21:50 7 July 2009 (BST)

It seems as if multiple users explained that they thought it was a problem and explained a few reasons why, not to mention the actions of some users seemed to have confirmed it. After they explained it, I didn't see the point. You already knew what we thought was a problem, one more person repeating it wasn't going to help.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 20:35, 20 July 2009 (BST)

Policy updates

I've reverted your change to the old sig policy, and placed a notice that it has been extended to include blinking text at the top. Changing the policy description of what was voted on by all those below is going to make it look like they all voted for the blinking part of the policy. Better to make it clear that the policy is superseded with a link to the newly approved policy -- boxy talkteh rulz 14:04 23 July 2009 (BST)

Hmmm its more that the policy really should be on a page seperate from the voting, otherwise these things could get even more messy than they already are. Honestly you need a degree to try and figure this shit out.--xoxo 14:33, 23 July 2009 (BST)
Yeah... That's why I never touched it after the Blinking policy was archived... I didn't know what to do, and before I got the chance to make a decision you bumped SA about it and he gave it a go. But for now, I think what Boxy chose is adequate. --ϑϑℜ 14:37, 23 July 2009 (BST)
I just wanted to make sure something happened so those fucking blinking sigs could go. And yeah i'm okay with what boxy did, its probably the best thing given the circumstances...--xoxo 14:58, 23 July 2009 (BST)

It's borderline - although animated gifs where not mentioned in the policy, images which mimic blinking text where included. Linkthewindow  Talk  12:05, 31 July 2009 (BST)
They don't mimic blinking text. They are technically allowed. --ϑϑ 14:01, 31 July 2009 (BST)
The 2nd image in my mind does mimmick blinking text.--xoxo 14:16, 31 July 2009 (BST)
Fair enough. I didn't really give it that much thought because at 14px high you'd be lucky to see anything in it, let alone blinking text. --ϑϑ 14:21, 31 July 2009 (BST)
I would say that the second one is definitely blink-ish, and that the first one is very very borderline. Cyberbob  Talk  14:29, 31 July 2009 (BST)
