Suggestion description
Whenever a Survivor kills a Zombie or (I suppose) Survivor, they get a "Search the body" button, which they can press up to three times. It performs from a search from a set list of generic items, independant of the actual equipment on the person. Since you are searching a body and not a building, the usual modifiers (powered, ransacked, ruined etc) do not apply. The percentages are as follows:

Useful Consumables:

  • FAK (6%)
  • Shotgun (3%)
  • Shotgun Ammo (3%)
  • Pistol (3%)
  • Pistol Ammo (3%)
  • Fuel Can (2%)

Total: 20%

Items Someone only ever needs one of, and you probably already have:

  • DNA Extracter, Binoculars, GPS, Phone, Portable Radio, Toolbox, Flak Jacket, Axe, Knife, Random Blunt Weapon: 2% each.

Total: 20%

Mostly Flavour Items:

  • Newspaper (6%)
  • Crucifix, Beer, Wine, Book, Poetry Book, Spray Can, Flare: 2% each.

Total: 20%

Random Flavour Texts:

  • "You find a wallet full of pictures. You throw it away."
  • "The body stirs. You jerk away quickly."
  • And so on.

Notably absent:

  • Syringes.
  • Generators.
  • Radio Transmitters.

After three searches, or if the Survivor performs any other action, the button vanishes. You have a 60% chance of finding something each search, but 1/3 of them are pretty useless and another 1/3 of them are useless to higher level survivors, who would already have them.

I've tried to keep an even keel between realistic and balanced. For example, practically everyone in Malton has a shotgun by now, but you shouldn't be able to find one after every kill.

This allows Survivors to try "living off the land" in Zombie territory ("I've got my axe and a bottle of gin. Everything else, I can find along the way.") and PKers to feel like they have a big penis because they killed some guy and "Looted" his gun.

Note: Spam voters! Killing people is HARD! It either takes lots of AP or lots of ammo! It will never be worth your while to kill someone for three searches unless you were going to kill them anyway. --Gene Splicer 22:17, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Keep Votes

  1. Keep I get first keep vote! What happened to the new suggestion template? It's changed :( --Gene Splicer 23:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep Great. realistic and Doesn't touch other peoples' inventories --KF 22:58, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  3. Weak Keep - Looks sound and I like the idea but there is still potential for abuse. However, the idea itself is a refreshing change to the usual looting suggestions. -- Cheese 23:05, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Very Strong Keep - Axe Hack, can you read? Besides, who needs to zerg to find a corpse? The rates are low enough to make resource buildings better for searching. Also, the zerg flag would presumably affect search rates. Hell, its too weak if anything. -- TerminalFailure 19:09, 10 March 2008 (EST)
  5. Extremely Heavily Keeped - This will be a great help to newbies. Plus, IT IS MORE EFFICIENT FOR A ZERGER TO NOT USE THIS!! If they want to zerg, they'll just search in malls and shoot their alts for XP. And one more thing: Anyone who votes no on this is a newb-hating zerg-parinoid jerkoff. No offence :D --Hhal 23:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep -Wow. An actual coherent suggestion. Anyway, I like it. It would be useful for stocking up when crossing zombie territory, or when moving to a mall.--Trav 00:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep -I think it is a good idea and realistic. Plus you are not actually taking from a character's real inventory.--Airborne88Zzz1.JPGT|ZC|MI|E! 00:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep - Helps newbs and encourages dangerous operations in zombie controlled territory where a lot of resource buildings are ruined and (mostly) useless. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Mostly helpful to newbies, I imagine. Good flavour too.--SeventythreeTalk 00:27, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep/tweak - I think the search rates might be a little high, but I like the idea.--Studoku 00:34, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I want to loot. --Heretic144 00:35, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep - I like how people can't take your stuff with this, like other suggestions I have seen. Also I think that it would be funny to read "The body stirs. You jerk away quickly." I can picture my guy doing that now. "Hmm...so what do you have on you Mr. dead body...hmmm..I don't that....OH CRAP he's getting up! Run away!!!--Jamie Cantwell3 00:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep - This is the best version of lootable bodies I have ever seen. --FrozenFlame 01:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Great incentive for killing zombies.--MikhailA 01:07, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  15. Keep - Good to the newbies. --FXI 01:50, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  16. Keep - "independant of the actual equipment on the person." I was about to vote Kill until I read that you do not intend to allow other players to steal from fallen survivors and zombies. Thusly, you have my vote. (For now)--Private Mark 02:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  17. Keep - You had me with 'living off the land in zombie territory'. --Howard Bentley 02:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  18. Keep - seems fun. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 03:09, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  19. keep - Best lootin' sugger around. --xoxo 08:21, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  20. keep - I like it. The Mad Axeman 11:03, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  21. Keep - sure--CorndogheroT-S-Z 12:40, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  22. Keep - Now all we need is gin... --UCFSD 13:29, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  23. Keep - I LOVE the living off the land idea. To me it also adds a extra level to the game.--Carnexhat 13:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  24. Keep - How could I vote no? --Alphonse Burr 13:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  25. Keep- "Another Reason to PK"...bullsh*t. You had me with "live off the land"...half the time I'm in a VD burb.--Rofl. 18:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  26. Keep- Sounds good. Especially since it's unzergable ^_^ --Luke Skywalker 18:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

  27. Keep- Sounds great to me. --N00bert F 18:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  28. Keep - It could encourage PKing. All the more challenge for lazy survivors, then. --Anotherpongo 19:16, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  29. Keep --LH779 08:28, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  30. Keep - Encourages PKing. With the side advantage to bounty hunters and zerger hunters. --Akule School's in session. 16:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  31. Keep - Sweet idea Bonner - Speak!. 17:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  32. Oh Yeah KEEEEEEEP Boo Yeah! Where where you when I was in the death zone? --Officer 123satsitx 21:45, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  33. Keep - Good flavor. - Grant (talk) 22:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  34. Keep - As so many above me. Acoustic Pie 23:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  35. Keep - Loot the air conditioning units. Bring a donkey! --Karloth Vois RR 01:38, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
  36. Keep - As a new player I find it difficult getting what I need either the dice are loaded or I'm a loser, personally I find zeds are too powerful, have you looked at their skills? I mean if your in a zombie apocalypse as a soldier and you cant hit within 6 rounds talk about unrealistic, or better yet doesn't every soldier have a rifle as opposed to a shotgun? People complain about overkill and balance yet lets look at realism. --User:Rogueboy
  37. Keep - Adds a lot of flavor to the game, makes players feel more realistic and "into" the game. Also very logical for the killer to loot the victim and find something. --RayHanley 10:19, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
  38. keep - As long as it doesnt take items away from the players actual inventory, I am cool with this. Could be slightly useful in areas where most resource buildings are ruined.--Dr Doom86Phoenix2.gif T PSS 10:19, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
  39. Keep - Good idea -Downinflames 18:31, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
  40. Keep - Increases the thrill of the kill. --Ms.Panes 17:20, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  41. Keep - Having only recently started playing any assistance in gaining gear would be welcome and more realistic. I like the idea of descriptive failed searches, maybe some grim ones on Zombie corpse like "As you slide your hand into the corpse's pocket you feel nothing but putrid almost liquid flesh between your fingers" --Roybatty666 13:26, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
  42. Keep - I very much like the idea, especially the parts that keep it from being easily exploited. Like you said, it takes too much AP and effort to kill someone just to get the three searches. --Some1neelse 05:22, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - this is realistic, but wrong in many aspects --~~~~ [talk] 08:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - I don't think this is needed. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 09:09, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Kill - If you get rid of the possibility of finding FAKs I would vote for this. As it is, I worry that creates too much of an incentive to PK. - Headshot Hal Talk 14:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC) - vote changed
  3. Kill - Should actually modify other people's inventory. Leaving it alone is dull. It's time to smash that stupid taboo. --Pgunn 15:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Don't really need to give people another reason to PK. --Kchu 18:07, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - To have the item be searchable, I think the character should have the item on him/her in the first place. --ZsL 20:28, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
RE A killed character is being treated as a "generic corpse" for the search. The percentages are designed to reflect the inventory of a cookie-cutter just-killed survivor, with Ammo, Faks and Guns toned down for balance. Basing it on the actual inventory results in a situation where you can load a Zerg up on Syringes and have them act as a vending machine. --Gene Splicer 22:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  6. Logic I know some might feel a it's a poor argument, but the items just happening to be on someone who has nothing else in their inventory but a knife ruins it for me. Lack of logic (in a zombie apocalypse???) gets a kill. - W 21:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
RE See previous RE. This was the point behind the "Unzergable" tag --Gene Splicer 22:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill - Completely unnecessary.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  04:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  8. kill - i just dont like this idea --Scotw 08:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  9. kill - 20% odds of a useful item are way too high for the way you've described this system. TastyNougat 20:24, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill- Worthless suggestion. -- BKM 03:57, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - I second Pgunns opionion. If there's some sort of looting, it should loot the players inventory. At least there would be a way to get those flak jackets off the zombies. And to make things fair it should be applied to human vs human too, which would just increase the general annoyance of things as you'd probably have to change your settings too to allow searching for those lost items that you don't usually need to search for. --Snaip 17:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
  12. Kill - I don't like it. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 00:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Kill-It would encourage nOObs to kill other nOObs (like me). This would give people the wrong impression of the game. --surfraptor 24th march
  14. Kill - It's not spam, but it's most certainly zergable. --Vault 15:12, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Leave other people's inventory alone. Or at least that's what it sounds like you're doing. And nothing is unzergable. Ever heard of proxies? --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:54, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: Did you not read the suggestion? It doesn't touch people's inventories. It allows you to perform a search like any other, with the prerequisite that you kill something first. Does not actually affect the killed player. And the title is in reference to the similar suggestions posted in Talk at the same time as this one --Gene Splicer 22:57, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
    But it still doesn't stop zerging. Proxies. P-R-O-X-I-E-S!!! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:03, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
actually these days, it's "Discussion moved to discussion page" --Gene Splicer 23:14, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - So, a way of making various extremely useful items findable in any given location by turning everyone into a mobile resource point, essentially destroying the merit of the current resource system? At the very least it's bad, but it's potentially game-breaking. --The Hierophant 01:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Biased. Why, pray tell, can't my zombie pick up that blunt weapon or radio? Why can't my zombie pick up anything it finds shiny, just because? -- Iscariot 01:34, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Re: I dunno why cant they read the news paper or open doors if they dont have memories of life. And why cant they search building and use guns? I dunno maybe that would screw game ballance?--Carnexhat 13:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC) Non-author re struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 13:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
RE Are you seriously voting "Spam" because it does not contain an option for Zombies to use it? Do you not understand what Spam is for, or are you still aiming for "Biggest troll on the Suggestion Page"? Even Grim sometimes makes sense, so I think you're winning --Gene Splicer 22:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
RE I fully understand what Spam is for, absurd suggestions. I find it absurd that a zombie cannot pick up something it can use like a blunt weapon, or even something it wants because it's shiny to its rotted brain. As it fails this simple logical test and therefore excludes 50% of the game population, I vote Spam. Start an arbitration case if you disagree with me, or a vandal report if you think I'm editing in bad faith. -- Iscariot 00:03, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
OK I'll start it when I get home from work --Gene Splicer 08:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Balance Ever heard of it dumbass?--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 18:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Waiting... or did you intentionally threaten me me further action in an attempt to change my vote? If you did I view this as a bad faith edit and will refer you to A/VB. -- Iscariot 23:07, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Lazy Went to the movies instead. Decided it wasn't worth the effort. But feel free --Gene Splicer 22:39, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - yet another reason to PK. Plus, what's the zombie doing carrying a fuel can around? And, how can you find a FAK on someone who isn't carrying a FAK? Logic, thy name is not this suggestion. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 13:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
You could argue the fuel can for flavour reasons too, but if that's your only remaining objection this would fall under "kill/keep/change" --Gene Splicer 22:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Re - C'mon, Gene - don't tell me how to vote - that's really patronising. I think your suggestion is something I'd never vote Keep on. It promotes PKing. It promotes zerging. It encourages desperate survivors to kill each other for booty. And that's something you never addressed in your reply to me, so don't pretend that it's my only objection and then make out like I've voted in the wrong section. To my mind, it's Spam. Plain and simple. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  5. Serious Spam, NOT Huge Kill - Wow, this is seriously game breaking, unbalanced, stupid, easily zergable, unrealistic, and just makes me want to hurt someone *looks over at axe hack.* and Please, PLEASE, reconsider your votes kill voters, this needs to die ASAP! and all Keep voters are just not thinking...--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 15:51, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  6. DO NOT FEED THE PKer! Many zombies carry next to nothing so what would you be looting from them? All this does is encourage survivors to murder each other so they can obtain stuff in potentially barren areas! --Honestmistake 18:22, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
RE - little unsure why Survivors would murder people in Zombie infested areas since there would be Zombies to loot, with the same results, or why they would murder Survivors in an empty area when there would be lit buildings to search in for better results. The only people who would kill a Survivor for this would be people who were going to kill that Survivor anyway. --Gene Splicer 22:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
re - As a lot of zombies don't carry stuff (you even say chances are based on a cookie cutter fresh corpse) this would have to exclude zombies for me to consider, however if it did that it would only be usable by PKers and that is unacceptable to me hence SPAM because i can't think of any way to change it and make it work for me!--Honestmistake 11:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  7. Makes Zergs Better - Mobile and unlimited resource depot. Not to mention that bodies shouldn't benefit anyone.--Karekmaps?! 21:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Re How does this makes Zergs better? You have to sink 40AP (of yours or a Zergs) into killing someone for three searches with an extremely random set of results? If that's the only thing someone can think to do with a says worth of functioning Zerg AP then more power to them, they need everything they can get --Gene Splicer 22:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Re - Oh? Suicide from tall buildings costs 40 AP now? What about revives and three shots?--Karekmaps?! 23:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Re Oh, thank you Karek for proving my point. The suggestion makes it quite clear that the PERSON WHO KILLED THE ZOMBIE gets the button. So a suicide? No button. Oh, and a revive and three shots? 7ish AP to find the syringe, 10 to administer, 5ish AP for the three SUCCESSFUL shots required, 5AP to load them (you did mean shotgun shots, right? That's 27AP and we're not even including the AP required to find five shotgun shells yet (mall search would take about 45). So... I was wrong. it's 72AP, for 3AP of searching. Please read suggestions before you spam them. --Gene Splicer 08:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam - How can this *not* make zerging more attractive? I imagine we'd see a lot more level 1 police officers spawning and going idle with this sort of system. - Bisfan 05:16, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spammity Spam ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 07:40, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Spam - The more I think about this, the less I like it. I don't like the logic at all. I think it is overpowered and unbalanced. - Headshot Hal Talk 13:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Spam - 1) Encourages PKing, 2) completely illogical (I've always hated RPGs with random loot. A squirrel drops a battle-axe when killed, riiight. Not that bad in this one, but still bad enough), and 3) excludes zombies. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:44, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  12. Spam - unneeded and quite broken survivor search-rate buff. and don't touch my inventory, gorram you. --WanYao 14:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
This also nerfs to hell death cultists, dual naturists and others... Contrary to what some others do apparently, in some cases my zambah does carry stuff that he wants to hold on to, in case he's revived. And don't you DARE steal stuff from my Mrh? cow, punk... Seriously... This is just an utterly BUSTED suggestion and totally spam-worthy... So, please take us ALL to arby for our spam votes, okay? Meh... --WanYao 16:59, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
..."It performs from a search from a set list of generic items, independant of the actual equipment on the person"...For christ's sake people, it's the second line of the damn suggestion...--Gene Splicer 18:39, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Spam - This IS zergable. You know what, make a big bunch of Scouts, send them into some Red-suburbs and left them there and here you go,bunch of dummies that drop useful items.Yea,doesn't work for a SINGLE zerger, but you can almost make them into public target practice dummies(or for your group's new characters,in case of starting in Ghost Towns). Also, encouraging PKing isn't exactly the most appealing thing. --Perne 13:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
