UDWiki:Administration/Promotions
This page is for users to request System Operator status. The act of user promotion is restricted to those with bureaucrat status, and as such users will need to request user promotion here. System Operators and Bureaucrats cannot assign promotions unless the request has gone through this page.
Guidelines for System Operator Requests
Users who wish to request System Operator status (and users who wish to nominate other users for System Operator status) should note that before they can be considered the following guidelines should be met by the candidate:
- Significant time within the community.
- We define this as at least 6 months since the candidate's first edit.
- Note: looking in a User's User contributions might give false results for this criterion, as the edit history is periodically purged on this wiki.
- Significant activity within the community.
- We define this as at least 250 edits in the past six months under the candidate's name.
- Note: looking in a User's User contributions might give false results for this criterion, as the edit history is periodically purged on this wiki.
- Prior interest in maintaining the community.
- We define this as clear evidence that the candidate is already performing maintenance tasks and taking leadership roles on the wiki.
- Desire to become a System Operator.
- We define this simply as indicating in the candidate's request their desire for the position (Note that if a person is nominated by another user, the candidate in question should note their acceptance of the nomination).
If a user is highly exemplary in one criterion, a certain amount of leeway may be given with the other criteria.
Once the candidate satisfies these guidelines, the user is then subject to a community discussion. All users are asked to comment on the candidate in question, ask questions of the candidate, and discuss the candidate's suitability for becoming a System Operator. This is not a vote. It is instead merely a request for comments from the wiki community. This will continue for two weeks to allow all users an opportunity to voice their opinion regarding a candidate's qualifications for promotion. After two weeks, the Bureaucrats are responsible for announcing their decision within a reasonably short period of time. Users may continue to add their thoughts until the Bureaucrats announce their decision. The current amount of System Operators running should not influence your decisions when voicing your opinion.
Once the two weeks are up, the Bureaucrats will review the community discussion and make a decision based upon it. The user will be notified of the status of their request, and will be promoted should it appear that the community is willing to accept them as a System Operator.

I've been around 3 months, and I've made to date 550 edits. As you can see [link here] and [link here], I've been in the leadership role attempting to create a new format for this page. I'd very much like to become a System Operator.

- Vouch - Example User is the most active guy here. --Another user 19:01, 25 July 2006 (BST)
- Abstain - I'm just not sure, but I don't want to say why for some reason. --Some other user 19:01, 25 July 2006 (BST)
- Question - I just want to know what you think about this subject? --Yet another user 21:26, 4 April 2013 (BST)

hey there, it's me again :D Many already know my past work as a user and as a sysop here in the wiki, so i will skip this part. I have found myself time and space to spare with urbandead again - i can has new house, job and gf - so i would like to run around with the cool buttons again. Some might argue that it's a little early, that i haven't meet the 500 edits in the past six months asked in the promotion criteria, but i'd like to remind that "If a user is highly exemplary in one criterion, a certain amount of leeway may be given with the other criteria." and that i *am* highly exemplary in the other three criterions :P --hagnat 17:52, 9 June 2011 (BST)

- So, essentially, we would gain another op who does nothing but to shuffle paper and handle the menial op tasks as A/VB/B or A/SD. Not that that is inherently bad (we can always use people dealing with the mind-numbing stuff), but from an op candidate, I expect a bit of more than that. And I expect to be an extension of janitorial work done as a regular user, rather than the be-all and end-all of their wiki activity. For now, I have to be Against that bid.
PS: In the meantime, if you look for a badly neglected gnome project that can be handled with regular buttons and help you to raise your profile, look here. The original maintainer Axe Hack has had network troubles for quite some time, and I have only half-heartedly kept it up (and won't have much time for it the next few weeks due to work). -- Spiderzed█ 20:32, 11 June 2011 (BST)- actually, i used to run several projects here in the wiki and they ALL required the tool belt to get on a steady pace, rather than having me waiting for someone else to do tasks for me or clean any artifacts i may have left behind while building said projects. Me having them tools is not only allowing me to do janitor's work, but to use them to make my life easier while developing tools for the community to use - like the danger map, the suburb box and the danger report --hagnat 14:05, 17 June 2011 (BST)

- Against - At least for now. Looking through your contribs, you asked for your entire userspace to be deleted just a few months back, which doesn't speak well to your commitment, and you were Warned for spamming admin pages, which indicates you consider it a joke (iz srs bzns!). Both of those are forgivable, but about a third of your janitorial work for the last six months came from a one day categorization spree you went on last week. I'd like to see a bit more consistency and sustained activity before vouching, especially since your contribs also indicate that you're regularly inactive for a week or more at a time (eight times since the start of the year, in fact). You're a good guy, and a lot of your recent activity is excellent work, but I'd like to see more of it before trusting you with the admin pages and buttons. —Aichon— 00:27, 11 June 2011 (BST)

- As AHLG said. And since this isn't a vote, the 'crats aren't just counting the vouch and against statements, but are rather looking to see why the candidate does or doesn't have support. If you say Against for a reason that the top of the page effectively says isn't valid, then your Against statement carries virtually no weight. I figured you would like to know something like that. —Aichon— 04:09, 11 June 2011 (BST)
- And I figured you'd like to go fuck yourself. When the fuck did "should not" turn into "does not"? Hell, since we're going for quantity over quality why not make everyone a fucking sysop? After all, apparently there's no such thing as too many anymore. --||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 05:27, 11 June 2011 (BST)
- You do realize you're arguing with someone who also voiced an Against, right? And that I was pointing it out so that you'd have the opportunity to add some more weight to your opinion? I actually do agree that there is a point where adding more sysops is counterproductive. What I was pointing out is that it won't be given much credence as an argument, but, as you said, the wording is "should not", which means you are still more than welcome to voice that opinion anyway, regardless of the weight it might be afforded. And hey, I can see why you might be confused and "figured" I'd want to do that to myself. As a troll, I'd expect no less of a response from you after we've only just met and you've only had time to make snap judgements of me. Anything less, and I'd take it to mean I hadn't been helpful enough. As an aside, love the screen name. :) —Aichon— 05:50, 11 June 2011 (BST)

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours; pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers and I'm a hopin' for Raleigh I can see my baby tonight. So rock me mama like a wagon wheel. Rock me mama anyway you feel. Hey mama rock me. Rock me mama like the wind and the rain. Rock me mama like a south-bound train. Hey mama rock me. Runnin' from the cold up in New England, I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband. My baby plays the guitar; I pick a banjo now. Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now. Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave. But I ain't a turnin' back to livin' that old life no more. So rock me mama like a wagon wheel. Rock me mama anyway you feel. Hey mama rock me. Rock me mama like the wind and the rain. Rock me mama like a south-bound train. Hey mama rock me. Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke I caught a trucker out of Philly, had a nice long toke. But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee. And I gotta get a move on before the sun. I hear my baby callin' my name and I know that she's the only one. And if I die in Raleigh at least I will die free. So rock me mama like a wagon wheel. Rock me mama anyway you feel. Hey mama rock me. Rock me mama like the wind and the rain.
