Suggestion description
Players start by choosing a class, but after a while this becomes meaningless. My 'fireman' has every skill and doesn't put out fires. Class doesn't mean much.
I suggest allowing people to select and display a Calling in addition to their starting class, as a way of indicating to other people what their character primarily does. A calling is displayed in your profile underneath your class. There would be several options to choose from, and these could be switched at any time if your character's activities change. Sometimes a player might qualify for more than one and its up to them to pick the best fit. Players would also have the option of leaving their calling blank if none of these feel right.
- Guard - If you mostly defend one location from zombie attack.
- Reinforcements - If you mostly travel around to defend places from large hordes.
- Reanimator - If you mostly revive zombies.
- Healer - If you mostly heal people.
- Hunter - If you mostly attack zombies outdoors for xp.
- Engineer - You mostly barricade, power, and repair buildings.
- Resident - You don't have any one specialty, but you stick in a specific area.
- Wanderer - You don't have any one specialty, and you are always on the move.
And for zombies:
- Feral - Mostly wander by yourself, groaning or responding to groans.
- Horde - You stick with a group as you wander.
- Consumer consumer - Generally you focus on malls, forts, and other large targets.
- Lurker - You're staying in a zombie infested area to keep it from being reclaimed by survivors.
- Ambusher - You stay in the safer neighborhoods to attack survivors where they feel most secure.
This would allow people to quickly display their usual goals to anyone who quickly glances at their page. You could leave your profile description intact as your goals change. While you could write "Bill is a tall blond man who heals people" instead of this you could instead use that space for your physical characteristics or background (Bill is tall blond man, separated from his family at the beginning of the outbreak) , and leave it alone as you change your activities. No need to rewrite your profile description if you start barricading buildings instead of healing people, just switch your calling in two seconds. Another way of looking at it is that your calling is like a one word summary of your profile, in some instances.

Keep Votes
- Keep NIce one. --Shusamchen 10:39, 11 Apr (GMT+1:00)
- Keep Oh and in case anyone wonders, your calling isn't visible by psychic powers or anything stupid like that. It's just how you present yourself. Have your toolbox out in plain sight? You're an engineer. Polishing your gun in the corner? You're a guard. Etc. --Jon Pyre 14:54, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Could provide useful information for other players to know what to expect from others. --Pvt human 15:00, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I'm beginning to think WanYao has an allergic reaction to typing Keep. It's a nice thing to have - just like clothes. Clothes are pointless as well, you could put something in your character description. According to your logic(?), clothes should be removed from the game. It's flavor dangit. And Jon, I love the term 'Consumer Consumer' For that reason alone, I'd vote keep. --Tselita 15:18, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Good idea for groups to know who is good at what - --And25 15:41, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I'm indifferent to it, but I guess other people would appreciate it.--CorndogheroT-S-Z 16:29, 11 April 2008 (BST)

- Keep - Whats with all the kills people, this is really cool.--Jamie Cantwel3 07:49, 12 April 2008 (BST) edit: hmm...I have read some of the kills, add some more callings next time and you could get more keeps.--Jamie Cantwel3 07:53, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Flavour, yet actually helpful. May be a shade hard to implement, but aside from that, coolio. Charlie Jackpot 09:54, 12 April 2008 (BST)

- keep - Good enough for me. If you don't like it, don't use it. The Mad Axeman 17:42, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Weak Keep - But add more, and make the ones you have sound better. "Healer"?!?!!? WTF?!?!!? Should be Medic or Doctor, this isn't D&D --Officer 123satsitx 18:37, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I like the idea and it could mean groups can designate jobs (to those who say Kill because its pointless - there are many things in UD that are pointless so why complain) --Feon Kensai 18:56, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - As Oficer123satsitx, only I'd even go as far as adding several redundant ones. Do you heal people? Why not pick "doctor, medic, nurse, surgeon, or healer." And don't forget to make "trenchcoater" an option. Just because. --Uncle Bill 00:06, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Meh, above. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:09, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- OMG, Ron Zorgalanz is a Guard! - I like it. --The Gecko PKer 00:49, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep- I like the decision and I believe it would make the game alot more entertaining --Someguy5031 01:22, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep- Nice idea.--Crazyloop 10:54, 20 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - i like this, although the human options are pretty lame. Makes me wanna become a zed player just so i can be a 'consumer consumer'.--xoxo 05:29, 21 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - make it automatic though and include pkers and zkers Meatshield 17:36, 21 April 2008 (BST)
Kill Votes
- killy kill - pointless. put something in your character description. --WanYao 14:54, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Re Clothes can also be written in your description, but Kevan chose to make those a separate display. Why not this? --Jon Pyre 14:55, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Completely pointless. -- 16:52, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - use your character discription, you have 250 characters to discribe your calling, and can change it any time you want. -- Jack S13 T! PC 17:40, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Can be put into the character description. --ZsL 18:03, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Re It's like a label. You can find out what a book is about by reading it, but they still mark them as sci-fi, mystery, horror, etc. --Jon Pyre 18:46, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill You say "label", I say "pigeon holing". I didn't see an option for Murderer, or Generator Killer, or Building Wrecker, or Bullet Sponge, or Revive Jammer. By listing certain "callings", the game would be making an implication that those are the "encouraged" modes of play. What if somebody invents a new mode of play that hugely aids survivors, but there's no "calling" for it? That is what the guides on the wiki are for, not the player settings page. As others have said, if you want this, there is already the description. And the group field. And the "name" area, which many people use as a link to a guide or other propaganda. Actually, that LAST one, I could see a point for; people should be able to list a "propaganda link", because the description and group fields both do NOT allow active links. Swiers 19:48, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Re These cover all the commonly used skills. Murderers and generators killers usually wouldn't want to label themselves as such for all to see. If they want something they could always adopt Hunter or Wanderer. Those both apply in a sense. Or leave it blank. Your argument isn't that this suggestion is bad, but rather that their are some categories left out and it needs to be expanded. Revive Jammer and Building Wrecker are fine zombie callings. What I provide above doesn't have to be the definitive list. And if a new mode of play is added a new calling can be added. --Jon Pyre 21:19, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- My point is that leaving people's options for displayed "occupations" wide open (as they currently are) is innately superior to ANY system of pre-set selections. That's the basis for my vote. Swiers 22:03, 11 April 2008 (BST)

- Kill - I agree with Swiers. --Jasonjason 23:32, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I just assume that players not in a group are feral/wanderer. Players that are in a group generally follow their group's role.--Kreios 00:06, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Eviscerate-You totally left out PKers. They're a legit playing style. Also forces Rolepay and causes boners in trenchcoaters.--Rofl. 00:59, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - 31337roxxor brings up an excellent point. Where is the PKer love? Plus, as above, there is plenty of room in your character description for this, no reason to add. Billy Club Thorton T! RR 01:14, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I don't like it. --The Hierophant 01:56, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill Use description. Better yet, fix the class system so not everybody is the same at high levels. --Pgunn 02:11, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - It's another dropdown box to fill that doesn't actually effect gameplay right? Not seeing how this couldn't fit in profile description. --Riseabove 04:00, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- I like the idea of class differentiation. This just isn't the way to do it. As most of the kill voters said, this can EASILY be done in your character's description (not to mention putting whatever the hell you want). If we want class differentiation, it has to actually affect the game.--Pesatyel 05:42, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill -DONT TRY AND PUT LABELS ON ME MAN YOU CANT UNDERSTAND ME MAN--Druuuuu OcTRR 06:59, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- As Swiers.--ShadowScope'the true enemy' 17:05, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Just use the group/description. - Grant (talk) 18:31, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - This sounds really cool, but I'm voting kill because it adds too little meat to the game. And clothing is in DD menues because there's a limited selection and you have to search for specific clothing if you want to wear it.--Zardoz 19:12, 12 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As Druuuuu. --Vandurn 00:05, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill- wheres the ones for murders ? :(--Skyvia 01:21, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill/Change Why isn't there a PKer calling? -Downinflames 03:10, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - We can do this already via Character Descriptions. --Private Mark 03:45, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As Swiers. Right now the character getting the most of my attention is a Reviver. But I also have a Murderer, a Revive Jammer, an Entertainer, and a Taunter. Discrimination! --└Frozen┘┌Flame┐ 04:59, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Change - Leave it open-ended. I have a Messenger, a Combat Technician, and of course, an Aspiring Zookeeper. In short, my characters have primary and secondary roles which I prefer to give them their own names for. ~Ariedartin • Talk • A KS J abt all 12:51, 13 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill- other than changing the name, this still makes no improvement.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 01:52, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill – As Swiers and Druuuuu: pidgeonholing. Plus, how the hell are you going to know something like this? From their appearance or demeanor? Well, gee, and how did we ever manage before? Maybe with some kind of, oh I don't know, character description? ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 03:49, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - That's not a suggestion. That's a coding headache to implement a feature that already exists and works just fine. --Slavoj 03:59, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - A limited list is just stupid. I might vote for a free-form sub-class with statistics (similar to the group-field), because that can't be done with the description box. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 12:26, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As others. --Toejam 10:36, 15 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Too much of a slippery slope to adding weird things. Rudiger Jones 19:51, 20 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I don't necessarily hate the idea, but this seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth. For the most part, few people (on either side) would likely care about these new classes. The Rogues might love them, though, as it further helps them know just who is a threat to their cause and target people more specifically. I appreciate the attempt to bring a lot more flavor and accuracy, but this would likely just be used for bad purposes.--Kolechovski 04:37, 23 April 2008 (BST)

- Re There really isn't a wau for an enemy to exploit this. Is healing more important than barricading in the long run? It isn't like there's an advantage to attacking one person instead of another. Besides, these are just general goals. If there are a lot of injured people a 'Guard' or 'Reanimator' will of course try to heal them as a priority. --Jon Pyre 17:42, 11 April 2008 (BST)
