20080327 Miss to block.

Suggestion description
I've heard a lot of people complain that it is ridiculous that you can punch at someone 20 times and miss all of them, so I say that all hand to hand misses be changed to block/evade, and all ranged misses either be miss or evade.

Ex. "You attack the zombie with a fire axe, it instinctively blocks you attack." or "You claw at some survivor, the survivor barely manages to evade you"

As a final note this will have no effect on gameplay, but it would make more sense.

  6. Keep Great idea and good flavor for the game.--MikhailA 02:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - cool I like this, makes the game much cooler.--Jamie Cantwell3 03:08, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep - What syringe problem? --LH779 03:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Youre absolutely right! How can you punch at someone 20 times and not hit them? A blind man would have better accuracy than that. This new change would be pretty cool.--Dr Doom86Phoenix2.gif T PSS 05:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep - this does fail to properly address the syringe problem --Scotw 08:31, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep - Meh, guess it would be more natural -- boxy talki 10:08 27 March 2008 (BST)
  12. Weak Keep-Why not?--Studoku W! 14:03, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep - As Dr. Doom. This isn't exactly going to cause massive balance changes... --Hhal 18:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Makes more sense than the current flavour, imperfect though it is. --Pgunn 20:58, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  15. Keep - I've always thought it was stupid that melee attacks have such ridiculously low hit percentages. This actually makes it believable. Good idea. And to anyone asking how someone blocks something while they're asleep - how can you get mauled by zombies in your sleep and not wake up, or be shot multiple times by a pker and stay in sweet slumber? The game isn't exactly realistic about that kind of thing. This suggestion fits in fine with the current mechanics.--Nallan (Talk) 07:30, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  16. Keep - feels more into the character with all these motion phrases. --RayHanley 12:38, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Just so long it's only flavour. --Vandurn 17:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

  19. Keep - Quick and easy change. Me likes. --FrozenFlame 04:23, 30 March 2008 (BST)
  20. Keep - Easy fix, more realistic, better flavor. I like it! --Nathan Blackwell 20:10, 30 March 2008 (BST)
  21. Keep - Rather needless, but good nonetheless.--Luke Skywalker 14:44, 5 April 2008 (BST)
  22. KEEP - Yes, a great suggestion! --The Gecko PKer 00:39, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  23. Keep - Because I think my character's good enough at fighting to not miss a sleeping target or a zombie standing still or moving incredibly slowly with a fire axe nearly all of the time. --Howard Bentley 04:17, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  24. Keep - it has always annoyed me that people miss a still object so often.--xoxo 09:19, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  25. Keep - It'd make more sense that an unexperienced combatant would be more likely to be blocked than miss altogether, at least with melee weapons. Keep, simply because it'd make more sense. Charlie Jackpot 13:33, 09/04/08 (BST)
  26. Keep - Because of the difference between "you miss" and "your target evades your blow". While the former covers the latter, it's similar to referring to people as primates instead of humans. It's inaccurate and gives the wrong impression. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:07, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  27. Keep - As all above, this would substantially improve the beleivability of combat for me --Gene Splicer 18:39, 10 April 2008 (BST)
  28. Keep - Meh. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 18:41, 10 April 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. The current system is fine. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:41, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  2. Why? - Flavor isn't always good, --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 03:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill- Why would inactive characters be blocking, or evading? -- BKM 03:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - If a zed needs a skill to remember how to open a door, how do they 'instinctively' know how to block? If you block a shot from a fireaxe, that's a clubbing blow at best and a fireaxe blade into your arm/hand at worst, and as a result you'd be inclined to believe you should take damage from such a strike. Furthermore, the question of inactives has been raised and the syringe problem was not addressed. --Shigogouhou 07:25, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Re - Let me point out that zeds now actively block barricades, so why not block a guy trying to hit you? You would not receive a message about blocked/dodged attacks. Not being able to open doors and defending yourself from attack are two completely different things. Finaly about the srynge problem I've been hearing so much about, I didn't even know about it when I made this and it has nothing to do with this, this is flavour and that would be a major game change and should be a different suggestion. --FXI 20:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - I thought when you attack somebody and that somebody evades or blocks the attack the ultimate result is that you miss. It is fine as is. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 08:25, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill - Mr Rubin made my point for me. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 08:59, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

  12. Kill - almost spam. unessicary change, and useless additonal text, for the same result. -- Jack S13 T! PC 15:50, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  13. Kill - As JohnRubin and Jack13. -- The Lethal Trio [Tlk|NTCS|RRF] U! E! 19:32, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  14. Kill - No need. Besides, even if a zombie "blocked" a fire axe attack, the blade hitting the zombie's arms or other body parts in blocking is still bound to do some damage. And how does a sleeping survivor "block" an attack while.... sleeping? --Private Mark 04:34, 8 April 2008 (BST)
Re - When I used that example, I was thinking the zed blocked it via the wooden part, and why doesn't said survivor wake up after it has been hit the first time? I always viewed idle survivors as doing things other that sleeping during said time like eating, cleaning their weapons and so-forth. --FXI 15:25, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  15. Kill - Varying messages is confusing. I don't like the modified messages for Tangling Grasp attacks and this would have a similar effect. --Explodey 17:59, 9 April 2008 (BST)
