20080201 Binoculars from fort armouries

Suggestion type
Item improvement

Suggestion scope
Binoculars and forts

Suggestion description
This is a very simple suggestion, and I think that its simplicity is an asset to it. It is a simple change that would slightly improve a small part of the game, without causing any real balance alterations. I suggest simply that binoculars, which are found in malls and forts but can only be used from tall buildings (hotels, buildings, and towers), should be able to be used from fort armouries as well. There are several reason for this: Firstly, armouries are generally tall buildings, including at least two floors, and we can only assume that the fort armouries in Malton are the same. As such it is only logical that these buildings would provide a substantial vantage point from which to observe one's surroundings. Secondly, this suggestion makes binoculars not so useless as they are right now; the ability for fort inhabitants to monitor the surrounding area without leaving the fort is a valuable tool, and provides something worthwhile to do with all those binoculars that are lying around in Creedy and Perryn. Finally, this change is mostly an addition of flavour, always a good thing in my opinion, which gives the game more depth. (Not to mention providing fort trenchies with a mindless task to occupy themselves -- all the better to keep them off their damned radios.)

Thank you.

Keep Votes

  1. weak keep - there should be a building in fort that would be tall enough to use binoculars. not sure about armoury, though... --~~~~ [talk] 17:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - The Armory's mostly underground, but this can be implemented for the buildings that aren't underground, like the Gatehouse. --Private Mark 18:58, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - Same as above. --FXI 19:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep/Change - Make it the gatehouse rather the Armoury but apart from that its a good idea. -- Cheeseman W!RandomTalk 20:24, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Weak Keep - Meh. Probably not really necessary, but whatever. - Headshot Hal 20:31, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep/Change - I like this idea, but it seems to me that the fort walls would be tall enough to block the view from the armoury. Maybe you could only see inside and fort and out through the gatehouse? --Hhal 21:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep A useful improvement for forts, which were just crippled by the new "zombies block barricading" buff. Of course I don't think armories should allow suicide, so the building can't be super high to look out over the city. Maybe make it so it only reveals the outside fort squares? --Jon Pyre 22:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep Author vote, ha! As for the lowness of the armoury or the highness of the walls, what's to stop there being a tower or something on the armoury? The reason I chose it instead of the gatehouse was that the armoury is in the center of the fort, and so the use of binoculars from that building would not show any of the fort blocks, maximizing the usefulness. --VI 23:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep --CorndogheroT-S-Z 02:28, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep - To keep all them damn trenchies out of my hair! -- BoboTalkClown 03:25, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep A fort without a watchtower is a weak fort. --Johaen 18:15, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep It's a good idea. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 05:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
  13. Change - Not for the armory, but for the gatehouse, as that's where the twin towers are overlooking Malton, so it makes great sense that that'd be the place to use them.--Kolechovski 00:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Another place to use binoculars, that's cool.--Jamie Cantwell3 07:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  15. Keep/Change - Agreed. People should be able to observe their surroundings in a fort. Only makes sense. However, all the armories Ive seen havent been that tall. Change it to the gatehouse as was stated above.--Dr Doom86 10:25, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Weak Kill - I visualise the walls around the fort as being very high. --Pgunn 17:45, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - As Pgunn. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Above. Also, 2 floors is not that high. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 19:43, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - I think the walls are too high to use them anyway... unless you stand on the roof but that isn't an option I don't think.--N00bert FOX 20:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - I think it's hard-coded that a building that allows binoculars also allows suicide. If not, people will keep asking for it anyway. Suiciding within the fort is bad.Studoku 23:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill - The walls and 40 feet high. You would have to look straight up. --The Gecko PKer 23:59, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill - Underground Armory shouldn't be able to use binoculars. --FrozenFlame 00:17, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Unless the armory is VERY tall, seeing over the walls would be hard. I might vote keep if you could instead use binoculars from a "watchtower" situated in each of the fort's 4 corners. But you should also be able to suicide from said watchtowers, and end up inside the fort... SIM Core Map.png Swiers 06:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Maybe if you include watchtowers as Swiers says. I always thought that most modern forts where quite squat and close to the ground, with quite a lot of important stuff underground.--SeventythreeTalk 09:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam/Dupe - It says the Armoury is mostly underground. Maybe this would work for the Gatehouse. Also, I think this is a dupe. I read something like this before. --Themanwhocares4 17:05, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - We've been through this before with Gatehouse: Tall Building and See Through Armoury Walls. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 22:41, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam/Dupe – As noted above. Also, try walking around the fort sometime! Exercise does you good, y'know… ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 22:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam/Dupe – GET A JOB YOU SLACKER! In my day... we had to walk in the courtyards to see the enemy troops. 5. Spam - I might vote keep, but it's just too small of a change. Also the above reasons. And if you think about it, the trenchies in Creedy and sometimes Perryn would never use binoculars when they've got uzi's and katana's --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 23:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - As Funt. Not again. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 01:58, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - If you can't free run out what makes you think you can see out? You can't, the walls block your view.--Karekmaps?! 05:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam - pointless. we need big change, not something which for the vast majority makes no difference. Also as funt.--Jed 06:21, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spam/Dupe - As noted by Funt and Karek.--Scurley7 12:01, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
