The Policy

This policy defines who have the right to vote and who have the right to voice.

Right to Vote

The Right to Vote is a privilege for established users of this community, as they define the way the wiki work and how it is administered by the administration team. As a rule, for a user to attain voting rights, he must abide to the following criteria:

  • Significant time within the community.
The user must have his first edit in the wiki atleast two months before the voting/election begun.
  • Significant contributions to the wiki.
The user must have made atleast 100 edits to community owned pages.
  • Continuous interest in contributing to the community
The user must have made atleast 12 edits to any kind of pages in the month before the policy/election begun.

Right to Voice

While the right to vote is a privilege, the Right to Voice their concern about matters under vote is a right for every user. Independently of when the user joined our community or how many edits he makes in any period of time, the user is free to use the talk page of a policy discussion. Note that a well defined argument during the discussion process of a policy can alter the shape of it, and its chances of approval, more than a single vote during the voting process.

Definitions

Since Sysop Promotions is a process based on consensus, any user can comment on a promotion bid. Since suggestions are "filtered" by Kevan and do not interfere on the way the wiki works, any user can vote on them.

In the case of an invalid vote, any user can move the vote to an "invalid" section of that voting process.

While using policy voting and bureaucrat election as an example, this policy applies to any voting process that changes how things work in the administration of this wiki.

Example of community owned pages: Suggestions, Policy Discussions, Reporting Vandals, Suburb and Locations Pages, Danger Reports, Class Descriptions... this list covers pretty much everything aside user, group and template pages, and their discussions pages.

Voting Section

Voting Rules
Votes must be numbered, signed, and timestamped. They can take one of two forms:
  • # comments ~~~~
    or
  • # ~~~~

Votes that do not conform to the above will be struck by a sysop.

The only valid voting sections are For and Against. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

Voting closes after 2 weeks of voting. In order to pass, a policy must receive a two-thirds majority and at least 20 total votes.

  3. As i said on the talk page, this wiki is a resource first, community second, and as a result, the readers should have a say in how the information is formatted if they want to and without having to step into our cliquish and hostile community first (Or make a few posts, as most people here should know it isnt easy to just jump into a new community, especially when you are coming in alone). All this does is remove the voices from those who use the wiki for its intended purpose. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 23:05, 14 May 2008 (BST)

  7. Kill Do you really want me to update the status of a building from the outside?. "lets see from the outside of the building there are two zombies and the building is EHB." Is that really contributing anything to the wiki? Unless that is so, you are effectively saying only survivor characters that update the inside of buildings should have a vote. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! 11. It seems very unfair, as a new contributor to the wiki, that my opinion is discounted just because I'm new to the "community". I certainly don't feel welcomed. 42. Against As Grim. This is just lame.--– Nubis 22:17, 16 May 2008 (BST)
  43. Weak Against - We do need a policy on this. But this isn't it. It goes too far and actually takes away right of voteage from a lot more users than you might think. If you lower the number of edits drastically and also lower the time in the community from the first edit, while completely removing the Continued Involvement clause, then I think this would pass. -- Cheese 00:20, 17 May 2008 (BST)
  44. This is just a ridiculous attempt at a power grab. --Grarr 17:41, 17 May 2008 (BST)
  45. Against But, I suppose my vote doesn't count because I'm more of an Urbandead -player- who uses the wiki for information and contributes when I believe my opinion is relevant to the discussion. This is frankly a bad policy decision. I believe that if someone plays Urbandead, they should have full voting rights on the wiki. Wiki and game are intrinsically tied, and no opinion as long as it is properly justified, whether it comes from a lurker or someone who just joined the game yesterday, is without value. This strikes me as elitist power grab. Of course, maybe there'll be some kind of complaint/whining behind the scenes which leads to an "Anti Veto" to make this the policy irregardless of voting. I wait with bated breath for the outcome of this vote. Jerith 06:21, 21 May 2008 (BST) --ZsL 22:10, 20 May 2008 (BST)
  46. Against Because this is a terrible idea that will likely promote people spamming to have enough edits to count. Because people should not have their voice in proceedings taken away for lurking moar and not posting in the endless drama and masturbatory creation of pages for every square. Srekto 02:37, 20 May 2008 (BST)
  47. Against This seems a bit...oppressive. --Pedentic 21:38, 20 May 2008 (BST)
  48. Against I'm Not opposed to having voter eligibility being determined in certain circumstances, but since the wiki doesn't even have conduct guidlines, I don't see where we could even begin to limit votes. Admittedly it was once said "A Democracy will only stand as long as it takes for the people to realize they can vote themselves monies from the coffers" but the horse is already out of the barn on this one, unless as someone pointed out Kevan steps in, which should honestly be unexpected.
