Mobius187

Mobius has been around pretty much forever on the wiki, as far as I can tell. I'm not even going to bother trying to count up his edits, they're in the thousands. He has been working away at filling in, and improving on the wiki pages in the NW suburbs, including all the location pages (just click on any block in the suburb, they all have his mark on them), and many groups in the area. He is also active in organising the suburb pages, showing a good understanding of the way the wiki works with templates like this, and is always willing to seek other users opinions before going ahead with major changes -- boxy T Nuts block it! DA 01:58, 27 July 2007 (BST)

Boxy asked me to drop by and confirm that I accepted the nomination for Sysop. So I have because I'm an agreeable person. As it has been noted I do have plans to sooner or later leave the UD Wiki, as I do not play UD anymore. I just have a really bad habit with always coming back to tidy-up the wikipages I originally spent so many hours creating or updating. I had originally intended to completely depart UD after completing the Biertag/Biertag/Biertag '07 event wikipages, and then again after I completed the Rolt Heights War wikipage... and then I got onto creating the suburb group category template (SgtBop knows how this project started). So right now I'm updating 100 suburb wikipages to include this template, which in turn spurred a new template design by another user (refer to Barrville's headers), which I think makes perfect sense in that type of situation (i.e. where zombies rule the suburb). Long story short, my goal, if made Sysop would be to simply keep doing what I'm doing right now, working on wiki-projects and sorting things out in hopes of improving the UD Wiki. --Mobius187 July 27 2007, 11:55 AM (EST)
Here's the thing, though: you don't have to have special powers to do all that.--Jorm 17:14, 27 July 2007 (BST)
No, but then someone like Mobius, who "potters around" in the suburb/location/group pages, inevitably comes upon pages that need moving about to standardise the wiki, be they pages such as A junkyard 34,54, or the randomly named archive pages (some call them archives, others Archive... yet others News Archives)... or whatever. Given his long history of totally good faith attempts to improve the wiki, and his willingness to continue when he sees something worth doing, I see no reason not to allow him to move pages about where he sees fit. And if he feels the need to contribute in other other sysop duties in the future, well I for one would welcome his input, given his neutral status, even if I don't expect it -- boxy T Nuts block it! • Vouch - That good enough evidence for me, along with a nomination by the respected boxy. 'arm. 02:16, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - Nothing personal but can't be sure if you'll actually be around, It seems you're(Mobius) not even sure.--Karekmaps?! 02:31, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - has done a truely staggering amount of work for this wiki - Vantar 05:14, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - He told me he was leaving... if he's staying around I'd say definately. -- SgtBopTalk|Maris Viridis 06:41, 27 July 2007 (BST)
Vouch - A great guy, I've enjoyed working with him. -- SgtBopTalk|Maris Viridis 09:00, 31 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - Not sure we need more janitors.--Jorm 07:54, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Assuming Mobius accepts, o' course. A massive volume of work, as others have said. Plus I've had the opportunity to see how he handles conflict, and I think he'll do fine. -- Atticus Rex mfu pif Δ 15:47, 27 July 2007 (BST) EDIT: Considered moving this down to community discussion, though better of it until Mobius accepts the nom. -- Atticus Rex mfu pif Δ 15:49, 27 July 2007 (BST)
He has indicated that he accepts the nomination on his talk page (although I encourage him to make it clear here as well by replying to my nomination up the top of the promotion bid) -- boxy T Nuts block it! DA 16:30, 27 July 2007 (BST)

Third vouch received 15:47, 27 July 2007

• Vouch - I trust him absolutely to put the interests of the wiki first and to make considered decisions, seeking out, and taking into consideration, the communities views -- boxy T Nuts block it! DA 16:30, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Personally I didn't have much contact with him (if some at all), neither did I note his personal contributions frequently, but lately I'm not on a lot and I recognize I could miss that. Anyways, seeing Boxy's commendation on this particular user and his contributions (<joke>plus Jorm's comments</joke>), I have to vouch for him. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 17:34, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - for this "As it has been noted I do have plans to sooner or later leave the UD Wiki". He's leaving. Why would you make him a sysop now? Plus, he's never been one for deletions or vandalism. None of the moderation pages, to be realistic. He can keep doing what he's doing just fine without being a sysop.--Gage 17:40, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - I have to agree with Gage there. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:23, 27 July 2007 (BST)
• vouch his eloquent explanation of what he does and why swung it for me. it suddenly made sense why i had never heard of him, its because he focus's on the things he enjoys doing and seems to do a damn good job of doing them! We don't need anymore high profile sysops with an eye for drama but giving power to someone who neither seeks nor normally needs it seems like a very good plan!--Honestmistake 00:51, 28 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - I seem to recall some other people talking about leaving for good, but still sticking around. Heck, we have many inactive sysops who only come around to bail out friends, so I don't see why his expression of interest in moving on should penalize him. Based on what I have seen of his edits, I imagine that he can do a lot of good for the wiki, and if this helps convince him to stay, all the better. We need more good syops. --Akule School's in session. 13:45, 30 July 2007 (BST)
• Against - no offense, but i'll have to agree with Gage on that. He can keep doing what he's doing just fine without being a sysop... --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 13:50, 30 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Mobius is one of the greatest UDwiki users that I know of, and he has contributed soo much, that even if he won't be around much, I am positive he will help a tremedous amount of time while he is here.LemonHead7t7 *̡͌l̡*̡̡ ̴̡ı̴̴̡ ̡̡|͡|̲̲̲͡͡͡ ̲▫̲͡ ̲̲̲͡͡π̲̲͡͡ ̲̲͡▫̲̲͡͡ ̲|]]| ̡̡̡ ̡ ̡ ̴̡ı̴̴̡ ̡*̡͌l̡* Talk/PDA/Red Rum/MOB 17:19, 30 July 2007 (BST)

• What Moderator duties do you see yourself focusing on, as a rule?
• How do you react to criticism online?
• What is your current attitude to the moderators, as a group?
• Have you had any previous position of responsibility in any other online communities, and if so, elaborate?
• A: Clean-up and reorganization probably. If I see broken links I tend to investigate the reasons for them being broken and then either fix or remove them (mostly on public wikipages), remove/sort old content (i.e. suburb news to archives wikipages), and I usually fix grammar/spelling errors without making a fuss if I encounter them, especially in public wikipages. I don't tamper with with group wikipages unless I have permission or the error is a very quick fix (i.e. word was "one", but they meant to say "once"). Other than that I have a few other projects in mind.
• A: I try to be logical. So far the only real criticism I've encountered was with a user who created some location wikipages in Rolt Heights. I was creating all the suburb wikipages in this suburb and edited his work to conform to the style template I used on every other wikipage. He became upset, but eventually we figured out the reason was that he used Firefox and apparently IE reacted different in 800x600 when it came to images. Long story short, I tried to find a solution to this problem and when I could not I compromised my design by letting him turn the images into thumbnails. I like conformed design, but I figured it was a small price to pay if it made the guy happy with his own work and he made the original wikipages in the first place so I gave him final call on it. Does that answer your question? If not, feel free to check my Talk wikipage, the contents of the discussion are either there or on my Talk Archive wikipage.
• A: Honestly I don't have a real opinion, positive or negative. The reason for this is that I haven't really worked/encountered them on many occasions before. Of course I respect that if a Mod changes something I've done they must have a good reason and I leave it at that. I did chat with you (Hagnat) about my current work on the "SuburbGroups" template and you gave me some good ideas (i.e. the template, and later the suggestion of adding it to the Suburb template). Of course combining it with the Suburb template may not work as someone has created an alternative version that lists zombie groups first, which I think makes a degree of sense for suburbs controlled by zombies (i.e. RRF).
• A: Community positions, hmmm. Well I was a Super Admin on the "No More Room in Hell" (HL2 Mod) forum before I came to the UD Wiki. The Dulston Alliance trusted me be their organization's diplomat even though I never joined any of their groups and granted me access to their private forum (formerly group leaders only). I was also granted Admin privileges by the BAR and the rank of "Investor" for all the help I've given them. Today I was also granted access to the RG's private forum so I could provide my input on their suggestions (but at this stage I'm only reading through threads). I'm also a server admin where I work.
• Vouch - He's done a whole lot of work, Including some very fine designs for various group pages, knows what he is talking about and is very diplomatic. --Seventythree 16:45, 30 July 2007 (BST)

• Vouch - His contributions to the wiki are great. Pure diplomat and willing to bend over backwards to help someone. I've worked closely with Mobius through the B.A.R., and can say without a doubt that he would be an excellent Sysop. Even if he leaves soon, whatever time he spends here with all the tools at his fingertips will be good for the wiki. --Gut stench FU BAR 06:28, 31 July 2007 (BST)

• Abstain - You have done great work and appear to be a nice guy, but your statement of intending to leave the wiki and absence of the need of sysop powers to continue your work make me lean towards abstain. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 17:35, 31 July 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Mobius has done a FANTASTIC job updating (and creating) many of the WIKI pages for Urban Dead. He helped us out so much that we granted him full access to our messageboards. Hes said hes leaving, but hes still around, to some degree. Even as such, his contributions are greater than most. -- Tommy monahan BAR 18:18 31 July 2007 (EST)
• Vouch - While im not keen on having yet another mod running around underfoot, i cant come up with a compelling reason not to let you go ahead and become a mod. That, and Gage's excuse for his against was completely lame. No one lasts forever, and the comment he quoted has no set time. It could be any time at all. Consider this vouch to be a counter to his stupid comment, nothing more. In any case, if you fuck up or go insane, we can demote you and throw you to the rabid puffin dingoes. --Grim s-Mod U! 01:14, 1 August 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - I've had conversations with Mobius on several occasions since the Rolt Heights War. He strikes me as an even-tempered individual who would make a great asset to the Sysops team. He's objective, good-natured, and doesn't take things too seriously. More importantly, he knows the difference between IC and OOC.--Headless gunner W! 06:59, 1 August 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Tons of edits, all seemingly in good-faith to the wiki as a whole. Only if everyone was a little bit like this guy, the wiki would be so much more comprehensive. I think that this guy deserves a promo. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:32, 1 August 2007 (BST)

• Abstain - I would vouch for you, because you've done a number of good things for the wiki, but you have stated that you are leaving the Wiki, and frankly, I don't really know you. Therefore, I will abstain from this vote. --User:Axe27/Sig 00:08, 4 August 2007 (BST)
• Vouch - Judging by the time and effort he's put into this wiki, I believe he should be a sysop. -- Antipathy 4:10, 2 August 2007
• Vouch - Mobius deserves recognition for the work he has already done on the wiki - even if some here say he is leaving. He has not just improved group pages hugely, he's taken it upon himself to make wiki stubs for most if not all of NE Malton! (if any of you have ever read about the brain museum you'll know what i mean). Hes also hilariously funny which is unusual for major wiki contributors and would make a damn fine mod. --SamtheMan 13:24, 4 August 2007 (BST)

If he's accepting the nomination, I think he'd make a great Sysop. Not to mention he's ridiculously funny, and his user image is John Stewart.
