Of course you don't need to become a NecroTechnician to report scans. In those instances please refer to the appropriate section (below) where you can post links to your NT scans.

==Great Suburb Group Massacre 2013==
AAAAAAIGH I cannot believe how many people have NecroNet Access and yet no one updates anything on the Wiki. It's like, what? Do you buy it just to take scans for your own personal curiosity? Good grief! It's like... I dunno. It's like you see a traffic accident or something, and you see that half the people standing there with you are on their cell phones, and you say "are you guys calling the cops?" and they all say "no, just playin' Tetris." AAAAAAIGH. Okay, feeling better now. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 21:34, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
:Heh. Yeah. I know the feeling. That's why I started NecroWatch, with the hopes that I could provide some added value and excitement (interest?) to people who want to report scans, and just don't get any credit for their hard work. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 12:40, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
::I think it's more an issue of ignorance than of willful inaction. We must always spread the word. I'm actually going to be giving a two part lecture series at the [[Malton College of Medicine]] in a few days about NecroTech science, and I'll be mentioning the NecroWatch in part two, so hopefully we'll see some increase in contributions. -- {{User:VI/S}} 04:13, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

==Do we have a Talk Archive?==
I'm a volunteer helping to do some janitorial work on the suburb pages of the wiki. As part of that, we're double-checking in which suburbs each group is active. Currently, you're listed in one or more suburbs, in addition to using a radio frequency. If you would like to continue being listed, then please respond '''within the next month''' with the radio frequency you are using and a list of every suburb where you are currently active. If we don't hear back from you or we can't get the information we need, we'll be removing you from the lists, but you're welcome to re-add yourself later. If you have any questions, feel free to visit our [[The Great Suburb Group Massacre/2013|informational page]]. Thanks. {{User:RadicalWhig/sig}} 10:26, 25 October 2013 (BST)
We might consider archiving some of these older discussions, or even re-tooling things a little. If we move forward with the new "most crowded scan" ribbon, maybe that deserves its' own sub-page? Just thinking out loud, really. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 06:34, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
:Didn't think we were listed in any specific suburb. Necrowatch is more of a nomadic institution as A.L.I.C.E. keeps us on the move doing the field reports. I could be wrong, but if no one else chimes in, I would say remove at will. --{{User:A.schwan/sig}} Sunday, 27 October 2013
:[[Talk:NecroWatch/Archive|Yes]]. NecroWatch has one of everything. ;) --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 12:58, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
::Turns out you're not actually listed in any suburbs, but are listed with a radio frequency. Are you still using it? {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 03:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
:::Not that I am aware of, but I can't give you an official answer. I would give it a bit to see anyone steps up to champion it and then remove the listing. --{{User:A.schwan/sig}} Thursday, 31 October 2013
::::No one's responded, and it's been a month, so I'm removing the listing. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 03:09, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

==Scan to be Reset==
==RADIO==
The frequency for us @ NecroWatch is now '''26.52'''; We lost the previous frequency due to inactivity.--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 06:37, 22 April 2011 (BST)

Notice: Unless anyone has any objection, in a few days time I'm going to reset to blank all scans that are older than six months, to better demonstrate which facilities are in bad need of maintenance.
==SIM -> NW or v/v?==

On a somewhat unrelated note, I encourage all NW operatives to, when taking a scan from a NT building, mention the NW to the occupants of the building and recommend that they join our effort.
I've noticed some suburbs, notably ruined ones, don't have updated NT scans. I've taken it upon myself to deliver a la [[Scentoral Intelligence Map]] style intel from these NTs. Is this acceptable, should I continue, and what are your thoughts in general on Scent Death + NT scans? {{User:Tec7890/sig}} 13:35, 6 July 2010 (BST)

That is all.
:Since we are revisiting old threads, I thought I might chime in on this one. As many know, I see no reason that death should be an excuse for dedicated technicians failing to do their job. Therefore, I have been exploring the value of the scent maps and have found that, while not entirely accurate owing to the random background noise, they are a decent way to track large groups like The Dead who are currently marching across the city. The way I figure, scent scans cover an 11x11 grid, so scans from the following 81 locations will cover the whole of Malton with very few gaps. <br>
:(5,05),(16,05), (27,05), (38,05), (49,05), (61,05), (72,05), (83,05),(94,05)
:(5,16),(16,16), (27,16), (38,16), (50,16), (61,16), (72,16), (83,16),(94,16)
:(5,27),(16,27), (27,27), (38,27), (49,27), (61,27), (72,27), (83,27),(94,27)
:(5,38),(16,38), (27,38), (38,38), (50,38), (61,38), (72,38), (83,38),(94,38)
:(5,50),(16,49), (27,50), (38,49), (49,50), (61,49), (72,50), (83,49),(94,50)
:(5,61),(16,61), (27,61), (38,61), (50,61), (61,61), (72,61), (83,61),(94,61)
:(5,72),(16,72), (27,72), (38,72), (49,72), (61,72), (72,72), (83,72),(94,72)
:(5,83),(16,83), (27,83), (38,83), (50,83), (61,83), (72,83), (83,83),(94,83)
:(5,94),(16,94), (27,94), (38,94), (49,94), (61,94), (72,94), (83,94),(94,94) <br>
:I have staggered the one block difference in the middle for coverage. If images from these locations can be uploaded, they can be grouped into 9 3x3 sections to create a full map divided in SW, S, SE, E, W, NW, N, NE, and Central segments to allow it to display in full resolution on an average screen. By simply loading the images from the source file in the proper order onto a page, providing a border, linking the locations to the map, providing standard update instructions, and linking the map to the Necrowatch page, we would have a new way for Alice to track zombies that would also allow us to see areas of mass carnage.  Thoughts?
:--{{User:A.schwan/sig}} 22:43, 22 April 2011 (BST)
::Cool! Give some time o get up to speed on a few things thanks--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 04:56, 27 April 2011 (BST)
:::with a little modification, I have begun working on this project. I am organizing and posting scans [[User:A.schwan/sandbox#scent_test|here]]. If anyone is interested in uploading scans, proceed to one of the sets of coordinants listed in the block above the scans. Take a scent death scan and clip the scan image as you would an NT scan. Find the dead link for the apropriate scan (find the appropriate section by hovering the mouse over the dead link.) Click, and upload the scent map file. The map should update. It is a bit low tech at the moment but cosmetic adjustments can be made later.

[[User:VI|VI]] 02:49, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
:::For those of you unfamiliar with the scent map skill, the numbers of zombies are translated to green values while the numbers of dead bodies are translated to red. The results are only approximate because the software ads a random value of + or - 1 to each block to create background noise. Still, with numbers like the dead have, it would function very well: what is one zombie more or less in a strike force of 20 or so? (note: there is a one block un-scanned swath down the center cross of the layout above).
:I'm fine with that, since data that old would serve little purpose. Make sure to use the settings and not the template defaults (i.e. change PNG extension to GIF, don't just blank it out) as it's more user-friendly that way. Also we should remove the last user's signature and replace it with something like, "No recent scan reported". No need to date it. And I think it's a great idea to talk-up NecroWatch while in NT buildings. I used to post a news item for the suburb where new scans were reported by members. While advertising is generally forbidden in suburb news, I would start it with "[[NecroWatch]] reported from the <blank> Building with a scan that showed there were <blank> zombies at <blank>...", and so on. That way it's relevant information, but at the same time players who read suburb news would spot this and might become interested. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:13, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

::The settings? You mean like what I've done here?
:::Beyond that, a simple program that translated Hex color code to numbers could be applied if you like (someone else would have to write it). The basic conversion formula provided by Swies is [[Talk:Zombie_Skills/Scent_Death#Anylysis|HERE]]. I have tested it and find the zombie conversion rate to be as he indicates.

:::Yes, that's how it should be done. By settings I was referring to the template variables and the fact that if you delete them then it uses the default value (i.e. GIF for "FileExtension"), but it's better to just update the value. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 17:18, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
==Scouting In Dentonside==
::::Yep. Reset. It's about time A.L.I.C.E.  had another error, perhaps a different cake even. --{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 18:01, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
:::::First perhaps Carlos should report 46 more scans, say from NTs in northeast Malton? Then you could get that Eastern Recon Master ribbon he's so close to securing. After Alice has handed out some cake to you we could work on creating a second trophy... better cake and whatnot. ;) --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 22:13, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Considering that Dentonside isn't the most busy of places and the survivors groups located within the suburb are at an all time low I could possibly get myself or somebody in my group to do a weekly scout from [[Denner Towers]] and update the Necrowatch section on that page.

==Total Scans==
:Cpital Idea!...and welcome aboard. If you need anything, let me know--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 06:53, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Does this number include scans of buildings previously scanned? I can see how this would be pointless with regard to cake, but since the goal of this organization is to maintain scan maps I can also see how it could also be used simply as a representation of a particular member's usefulness to the organization, and to Malton's survivors. [[User:VI|VI]] 18:55, 22 September 2008 (BST)
==Scan Image Issue==
:Your total scans could include repeat scans from the same NT facility for the very reason you pointed out. It's not like anyone would be considered as "cheating" if they reported from the same NT multiple times, say one scan per hour. That's actually helpful in its own way, especially if there is a serious zombie threat to the suburb where hour-to-hour reports can really be useful to survivors watching out for zombie sieges (not so much so for quiet suburbs, but who am I to judge?). Feel free to rack-up an insane scan total as in the end your work is to everyone's benefit. Well, maybe not so big a benefit to zombies. NecroWatch is all about doing something helpful, getting some acclaim for it, and having a bit of fun while doing it. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:24, 23 September 2008 (BST)
Is there a tool somewhere (e.g. a GreaseMonkey script) to create those map images?  I noticed that the images linked from the NecroWatch page are all in the same style but if I take a snapshot of my browser window it looks slightly different (narrower and in a different font.)

::I dropped by to run a gauntlet of answers before I run off again. The answer to this question, along with a few others I'll provide today, are meant to provide solid answers to anyone who happens to come along with a similar question at some point. In short, no, NecroWatch does not protect NT buildings, of course individual members may choose to do so at their own discretion. NecroWatch is not a group, and as such, no one tells anyone what they should or shouldn't do. Rather, NecroWatch exists as a repository where players can report scans from their characters, which in turn help paint a better picture of zombie activity across Malton. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

==[[SI|{{SI}}]]==
--[[User:Catherine Athay|Catherine Athay]] 15:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
{{SI}} (Scenteral Intelligence, aka [[SI]]) is a group I'm working on that would have similar methods, structure, and purpose.  However, instead of updating NecroNet scans using NecroNet access, memebers would use Scent Death to update the [[Scenteral Intelligence Map]].  There are only 81 [[SIM]] points, compared to 200+ necrotech buildings, so this should be comparatively easy, but for the map to be useful, updates need to be fairly frequent.  What I really need is people with "junk alts" to park them on [[SIM]] points and register as being the "watcher" for that point, then update it daily.  That takes just 1-17 Ap and 2-3 IP hits.  If you want to spend a few more AP, you can bounce back and forth between two adjacent (even diagonally adjacent) points and cover them both every day for only 13-28 AP (15 or 16 IP hits).  Obviously the alts need "Scent Death", but lurching gait (and ankle grab) are not needed, unless you really want to cover 3-4 points a day.  {{User:Swiers/Sig}} 18:34, 30 April 2008 (BST)
:As always, anyone here who wishes to assist in other wiki-projects are free to do so. The way I see it, if it improves the enjoyment of UD players or the UD Wiki in general, then that's good enough reason for anyone to want to help out. Good luck with your wiki-project. :) --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:26, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

==Annoyance of Resets to Blanks Scans==
:There are no GreaseMonkey scripts for NecroTech. The map images are just cropped screenshots. The image, however corrupt, still contains the number counts of scanable zeds. I'd say post it anyway, eventually you will figure out why it is happening.
In the suburbs I usually "patrol", the NT Buildings lay in ruins, primarily due to the zombie rampage throughout Malton.  Anyways, because of the zombie occupation, another Wiki user reset the NecroNet scans for those buildings back to the "missing scan" image. How annoying.
Sure, it reflects the current status quo, but that's more work for the next updater to do, having to re-type details in the template and having to dig up the Upload page for the NecroNet scan image.  Unnecessary hassle, bleh.
Anyone else run across resets or make the resets yourself?  --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 21:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
:I did a reset a few months ago, but that was because the scans I posted were back from early-2007. That was back in the day when I posted ''any'' scan I could find for a location and the only member of NecroWatch was yours truly. After the project really started getting off the ground I felt it would be in everyone's best interests to get rid of those older scans so those of you posting scans could feel the glory of "posting first" for said location. It has a certainly thrill to it.

:That said, I had originally intended that scans would be reset to static after a set period of inactivity. What that period would be, I hadn't decided. One month? Two? I suppose it really just depended on how out-dated the information was, especially in terms of the current zombies situation. As such, I mostly leave it in the hands of locals to decide. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:27, 31 March 2008 (BST)
*What type of browser are you using?
*Are you on Mac or PC?
*Screen resolution may be a determinative factor

:: - It has been suggested that a flag be added that switches the scan between the missing scan picture and the recent scan picture.  That way, the filename and filetype doesn't have to be manually changed each time a NT Building goes active and inactive.  As for the situation I was describing earlier, it had only been three days since I put up a scan before it got switched over to a picture of a missing scan.  That's what I annoyed me the most.  --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 03:40, 3 April 2008 (BST)

I don't think it's just my browser settings, because the page references non-existent images too (that's why you see the black squares on the map, often hiding zed counts which are in black text.)

==Brilliant==
Anyhow I wrote [http://www.wikimirror.org/~athath/scanplan.cgi this CGI script] to make it easier to create images from iWitness records.
Just completed my 50th scan. All it took was headshotting two zombies, repairing the building, installing a genny and searching a ruined auto repair for fuel. But man, was it worth it. If only i can survive the night in a loosely caded fully powered NT on my own...............--{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 20:53, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

::Yup. Zombies just let you power-up an NT building and scan away while they drool. Mind you, the life expectancy of your generator will be very short if left in the hands of the living dead, but hey, at least you get the scan. Good job collecting 50 scans! You're now 1/3 of the way to claiming your cake! --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 13:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

==Ghost Towns==
Here's the output of that CGI for the same scan:<br/>[[Image:NecronetGood.png]]
According to the local news for [[Roachtown]], it has too much activity going on to be really considered as a ghost town.  However, it is still considered as one in the map of [[suburb|Malton suburbs]].  Would a NecroNet scan taken  in [[Roachtown]] at this time count for the Ghost Recon ribbon?  Or should we hoof our way over to [[East Becktown]] if we want the ribbon?  --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 18:18, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
:We had some conversation about ghost towns on Ottari's talk page... Hm... Not sure what will Mobius say, but i think technically you qualify. Also i think that this ribbon must be removed fully as being dependent from sources outside A.L.I.C.E.'s reach. Maybe substituted with some another ribbon, maybe not. --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 18:40, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
::It looks like the danger status of Roachtown is being contested as right now it's not ranked as a ghost town on the suburb map anymore. At this time only East Becktown is still considered a ghost town, so that option is still open to you. As Duke pointed out, if a suburb is considered a ghost town and your scans prove that is not the case you would still get the Ghost Recon badge, as the purpose of the badge isn't just to scan ghost towns, but rather report on their current status. Proving a suburb is not a ghost town is one of the reasons why scanning is important because the danger report system for suburbs is often based on flawed information (more often than not). It should be mentioned that if you do prove a suburb is NOT a ghost town, please update its suburb danger status, pointing to the scans as proof. On a final note, I will say that Ghost Recon, while a great idea (of mine) does have some issues. I am planning to add a few new medals and I will keep this in mind to avoid confusion in the future. Until then, East Becktown is your best bet at this time. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 15:05, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

==Status Report==
BTW do you know what the various border colours around NT buildings mean?  I think dark blue means the building has no power, but when there is power you can see either a light blue or white border.  I've always seen a white border around the NT I am in, but sometimes other nearby NTs have white borders too. --[[User:Catherine Athay|Catherine Athay]] 21:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

For those of you wondering why I'm departing UD (again), well UD takes up a lot of my free time, which by definition is "free" and thus available, however my friends have interested me in an old/new game that requires a lot of effort on my part to run. So as I have to choose one, I went with the ones my friends favoured... as none of them play UD (anymore). Anywho, I'm sure you'll all do nicely without me regardless. :Hmmm. As cool as I think it is that NecroWatch has 26.24 MHz, I'm just not sure if it actually serves a real purpose. NecroWatch is more of a project than a group, so there is hardly any need for coordination between its members as they all really just do their own thing. That said, I have no idea who added the station or why, or if they are even using it (as I'm retired from UD). Hmmm. I would say keep it for now. If after the purge is completed there are still too few stations, then I would consider removing it. How does that sound? --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 18:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
: Free time is our only valuable asset. A game, or metagaming, by definition should be fun. If it becomes work, it's time to take a break and try something else. I hope your old/new game is not really about fishing, though ;) --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 18:35, 20 April 2009 (BST)

Just a heads' up, I noticed that although the <nowiki>{{NecroWatch}}</nowiki> template included a gender variable, this wasn't pointed out in the instructions for using the template, so I went ahead and added some. Hope no one minds. I also linked Dr. Mycroft's <nowiki>{{NecroWatch250width}}</nowiki> template in there and updated it to include a gender variable. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 04:55, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

::::Boy, a guy overlooks a topic for a couple of days and everyone assume he just doesn't care. It's a shame that the category we created doesn't count towards "linking" the image, as right now each scan image was linked to [[:Category:Necronet|Category:Necronet]]. Even so, I agree that we should try and keep older scans, especially in the case where they are temporarily replaced with the "static" GIF. There was a time when someone wanted to actually create trending reports with all the scan images for each location, so people could see, via graph, how many zombies were in the area over time. Of course that was a while back and the effort was killed off when another Wiki Mod stepped in and deleted the wikipage/scans... something about the images being too large. It was a while back (2006?), so I don't recall the exact details. But yes, feel free to create a wikipage to store all the scan images. We certainly appreciate the effort. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 14:17, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

RIBBON DESIGN [[Image:NWRibbonBWscull.png]]
:I know the feeling. When I created the alphabetical listing for each suburb's NT scans it just seemed to take forever... which of course wasn't that big a surprise for me since I had already gone to the trouble of revamping the wikipages for every NT building in Malton prior to starting this project. Good job so far. Let us know when the images have been safely stored. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 12:39, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
::Ah, I'm sorry. This is probably my fault, since I was the one who thought it would be a brilliant idea to clear out the older scan images in favour of the scan missing image. Apologies. -- {{User:VI/S}} 14:13, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
:::I don't think it's your fault at all. Updating everything with the missing scan was a good idea, and we should probably do it more often than we do, or maybe even get a bot to do it. However, when the images ended up being linked to no pages, they inadvertently were removed. The page Link is working on will make sure that doesn't happen again. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 04:35, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

:This is an excellent idea. If I may make a suggestion, it would be very useful to have a section on surviving and getting scans in totally destroyed suburbs. I recently had to figure out a way to make my way through a ruined wasteland filled with zombies to gain a scan from a NT facility that was utterly gutted and full of zombies. It was only because I came prepared for the task and armed with the knowledge of how to survive in ruined suburbs that not only did I get my scan but I also came away completely unscathed. -- {{User:VI/S}} 19:31, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

:I would offer, but I never actually stayed in a ruined suburb. It was all sunshine and happiness for me. Hopefully though someone here has and can offer some suggestions. As for second-hand advice, I commonly hear people using strategies like hiding in ruined non-resource buildings with open doors, or even dropping a generator, repairing and barricading, and then destroying the generator to kill the light. I suppose it depends on the resources and AP of teh person. Also, I used to always keep 10 AP on me at all times, just in case I needed to exit a building. What else? Oh, always keeping 1 FAK on you at all times and using it only to heal yourself from infection. Then when you do, head to a hospital to get a new FAK to replace it. That's about it for me. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:33, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

::Depends, I guess. I always carry at least three because I also help to reclaim NTs and drop by revive points whenever I'm in a moderate or safe suburb (since I'm not needing to spend AP looking for generators). If you're just intending to sprint from one facility to the next, I wouldn't worry about it. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 02:06, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Originally the list was sorted alphabetically, but as member gained ranks I opted to keep those higher ranked members at the top of the list, as those ranks grew I sorted them alphabetically as well. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:40, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
:::Since ranks are just scans count but grouped arbitrarily, would it not be better to go straight by scans anyway? The table looks a bit odd otherwise. {{User:The_Rooster/Sig}} 14:01, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
::::I agree. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 21:05, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
:::::Well I'm game. Like I said, the original sort order was more a factor of how the list evolved as more members joined. Still, I cannot help but sense this request was not motived so much by the need to order the list, so much as finding a way to actually get to the top of that list, am I right? The only problem I forsee is that I have a lot of overhead tasks these days, and not every member updates the member list. Rather than see myself get roped into updating the list for these individuals I have come up with an even better solution. The member list sorts itself now. You heard me, and all at the touch of a button. High-fives for everyone! Alright... --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 23:24, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
::::::I love it! That's a good feature!{{User:Extropymine/sig}} 03:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

On the subject, it might be worth "resetting" the leaderboards annually. A lot of the high-ranking people on the list don't seem to be scanning much anymore. Maybe an archival 2008 sub-page? Since part of the appeal of NW is the "contest" of getting scans (a very good way to trick people into helping the survivor community at-large), maybe having new contests every year would keep a steady flow of recruits? Alternatively, we could make some new ribbons to encourage people to keep on scanning, or maybe contests to earn a ribbon for the most scans during a given month.{{User:Extropymine/sig}} 21:03, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
==Your recruitment ad==
:The contest is more of a ploy actually. Everybody loves to be a winner. Everybody loves cake. The winner gets cake. Bam. You're signed on for life. I do however see a point to perhaps removing some of the "low performers" who signed-up and have since done dididly-doo. I recall doing that once before. On the topic of recruiting, it's limited to whoever I spot posting scan updates, which in turn is spurred by the fact that I report scans in suburb news, which in turn advertises NecroWatch by default. Hence we reach Step 3: Profit. I do however agree... like Pokemon once you've collected them all you just don't feel as inclined to keep re-collecting them. It's boring. Rather we need new ribbons as you suggested. I was planning on creating a series of Trophy ribbons, like one called "Mob Chaser". It would be similar to Combat Recon, only instead of requiring a set number of zombies in the scan it requires you to beat the last "high score" (score = maximum numbers of zombies in a scan). The I create two versions of the ribbon, one for the title holder and one for former title holders. The idea behind this ribbon goes back to the old [[#The_Most_Crowded_Scan|"Most Crowded Scan" thread]]. I'm also open to suggestions, so long as they are scan-themed. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 23:24, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
::We're '''all''' winners, because we're here. I was thinking about things like month-long "scan drives" or something-- little mini-contests to award a ribbon for (most scans in April 2009, or most NTs visited in August 2009, etc). Assuming I'm still here in 2010 (and it seems likely), I'll be starting a new ribbon counter for myself to push myself to keep going.{{User:Extropymine/sig}} 23:32, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
:::That might be interesting too. I'm just trying my best to avoid commiting myself to anything that would require me to work on a cycle-based task. Ribbons, by and large, resolve themselves as you generally know when you've earned one. Monthly contests would mean I would need to monitor a thread here, or something along those lines, and officiate a winner each month. I do still like the idea as, just maybe on a more limited scale. Maybe connected to a zombie-related event? Like who can post the most scans during Mall Tour. Then we just base the start-end time on when they say they started and ended. Another idea for a Trophy ribbon, largest number of zombies inside a mall scan. I might associate that with Mall Tour... --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 23:42, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

:EDIT: A further thought on "Mob Chaser", I just realized that it might be too cruel for newer members if the "bar" is set so high that no one can ever claim the trophy ribbon. As such, I've decided that the ribbon will be an annual trophy with a winner for each year, and each new year the limit is reset to 0. However, the trophy ribbon will not be handed out to its next winner until May 15th of that year. This gives people a chance to one-up each other with new maximum zombie totals, driving it up to a more reasonably high number before it's handed out. Now the option here is, if it's annual do we want there to only be one winner per year, or go with the whole "former title holder" ribbons? Meaning, several people could win the ribbon, but at the end of the year it's the last "winner" who has the formal ribbon and the others just have a lesser version.
I'm really anal about things looking right, and I'm just curious as to why, of all your documentation here, the [[NecroWatch/Recruitment|recruitment ad]] uses a font in a different colour to the blinking cursor image you guys use. It'd make sense that, on a computer of the type you'd see those blinking underscore cursors, the text would read in the same colour. Then again, I have way too much time on my hands for stupid things like this. Eagerly awaiting you calling me a pedant. [[Image:Tongue.gif‎]] {{User:Misanthropy/Sig}} 22:30, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
::I don't see any reason to take away a ribbon from someone who won it previously. So I'd support the idea of the "former title holder" ribbon-- of if it's going to be annual, the ribbon(s) themselves could be subtly different, with "2008" or "2009" or something built right into the ribbon? {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 03:00, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
:::Actually, to clarify, each person who would win the ribbon would keep it. There wouldn't be any ribbons taken away. That would just be cruel. What I had meant, in part, was as you yourself suggested, namely that the ribbon is awarded on an annual basis and that each winner has a ribbon for that specific year (2008, 2009, 2010, ect). The ribbon would be neutral, but I would create a list showing the winner for each year, that way you can tell which years you had won the ribbon. What I had meant by "former title holders" was that I had considered giving a ribbon also to anyone who topped the current high score during the course of the year, but then didn't end up winning the ribbon because someone else reported a higher zombie count in their scan. That way you would still earn a ribbon for your efforts, even if you did not "win" for that year. It's like those participation ribbons that they hand out during track and field meets. Bottom line, all I need to do is create 2 ribbons, one for the winner and one for participants. Then I'll need to tweek the template to allow one or the other to be displayed. If that doesn't work out we can always just go with there being only the winner's trophy ribbon. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 17:44, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
::::So basically, a ribbon for "record-breaking scan" (which anyone can win and keep by breaking the current record, and can be won by several people over the course of the year as the "record" goes up and up), and then "most crowded scan 2009" (which is awarded at the end of the year to whoever is the leader at that moment). Sounds good! {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 04:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
:::::Now I just need to design it, set the rules, and update the ribbon-displayer template wikicode. I'll probably get a better chance to do that this coming weekend, as this week I'm still overseeing the '''Hang 'Em High''' competition for the Dulston Alliance (it has nothing to do with NecroWatch). That competition ends on Saturday. So I might have time on Sunday after I hand out the trophies. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:21, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Is the left-alignment necessary for the sorting feature? I notice that the list has changed from center to left alignment, and that the date of this change coincides with the implementation of the sorting function. Also, is there a way to insert a time stamp without having to type the four tildes? [[User:VI|VI]] 00:48, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
:'''''Why'''''? Are you thinking of joining us in our fight against disorganization & Barhah? ha ha ha, LOL...I don't see anything pedantic in your observation. This whole organization is based on a type of pedantic fussiness that is absolutely essential to our success. Besides, only a fool is angered by a just proof. If you wish to correct the matter (making the type match the cursor), we would be ever so grateful. Otherwise, it will be added to my TO-DO list. :Actually I compared the [http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=NecroWatch/Team&oldid=1393578 BEFORE] and [http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=NecroWatch/Team&oldid=1393773 AFTER], but I do not see any alignment changes. The first 4 columns were left aligned and the last two are centered. Of course if you would prefer one of the left-aligned columns be centered, let me know and I'll take it into consideration. In truth, except for maybe Rank, I'm flexible as to whether a column is centered or not. Of course I prefer Research Area and Total Scans stay centered, as in the first case it works best for the Master Recon ribbon, and also for the scan totals.

:In answer to your second question, you can sign a post with one fewer "~", but then you lose the timestamp portion. But you probably knew that already. In truth I tried to code the four tildes into the template, but the bloody thing just kept inserting my signature. There seemed to be no way to preserve the wikicode and still get it to activate. If I were the hazard a guess... maybe it could be done if we could determine a way to assign the four tildes to a variable, or parse the value into the signature field, but only at the moment after the template is used. It's been a while since I last experimented with it, but I'll take another look. Anything to make your jobs easier. :) --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:08, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
=Medal/Trophy Ribbon Suggestions=
Everyone wants a pat on the back for a job well done. As some of you may have been around the proverbial block a few times and collected most or all the medal ribbons offered to date, you might be thinking it's time for NecroWatch to add some new medal ribbons. This is the place to discuss these suggestions. As always post the more current topics at the top of this section.

<font color="red">'''NOTE''':</font> The following is a summary of existing ribbon suggestions after the debate over them has ended. These suggestions may have already been moved to the Archive, but in order to track them a summary is listed below. This post is not to be archived (obviously). If you have further comments on a suggested ribbon please start a new thread in this section titled after the ribbon.

==='''Endurance Ribbon'''===
*'''Name:''' Ironclad Scanner
*'''Category:''' Medal Ribbon
*'''Description:''' A medal ribbon awarded to the NecroTechnician who reports 7 scans, 1 per day, from the same NT building (selected by the NecroTechnician) in a "red" (Very Dangerous) suburb. The suburb (i.e. Eastonwood) and/or NT building (i.e. The Blackmore Building) may, or may not, be predefined requirements for the ribbon.
*'''Concerns/Alternates?''': If famous locations are selected, this may cause ribbons to overlap, such as the '''Blackmore Watchkeeper''' or '''Eastonwood Tour of Duty'''. Perhaps it would be better to target suburbs based only on their danger status.
:Might I posit Colglough as a site for this ribbon if it is to be offered. This is in a notable suburb (Whittenside) that is almost always red or grey. Furthermore, it is a building highly prized by one of the largest zombie groups in Malton (the Feral Undead). If we set it here, earning this ribbon will be nearly impossible, but if one were to accomplish it, it would certainly count as an acheivement worthy of merit. Colglough also does not overlap any other current ribbons.--{{User:A.schwan/sig}} 05:04, 9 July 2011

*'''Name:''' Four Corners
*'''Category:''' Medal/Trophy Ribbon
*'''Description:''' A medal, or maybe trophy, ribbon which requires NecroTechnicians to report scans from the NTs within specific suburbs scattered across Malton. The NT reports may also be required in a specific order, similar to points in a race course. The first such ribbon would be awarded to any NecroTechnician who reported scans from the NTs located in each of the four corner suburbs (Dakerstown, Dulston, Miltown, New Arkham).
*'''Concerns/Alternates?''': Any NecroTechnician who has already reported from these 4 suburbs will automatically earn this as a medal ribbon.

:::Actually I'm using IE. For some reason I thought you were talking about the text inside the table being left-aligned... so I kept comparing the two images. Then it dawned on me that you meant the entire "table" was left-aligned. Okay. That doesn't happen for me, but let me try this. I placed center tags around the table. That should center it... in theory. Let me know if that doesn't fix the issue. As a note, should you ever spot anything else that looks strange let me know, as there might be other "works only for IE" issues that I am unaware of. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 03:49, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

==A Customizable NT Map?==
==='''Most Crowded Scan'''===
Mobius, I know you're quite skilled at Wiki, so I'll direct this question to you-- how hard would it be to make a customizable version of the [[NT Status Map]] for NW users to copy onto their userpages to track our scans? Instead of using colors for suburb danger and NT status, it could use suburb colors to signify whether or not we've "finished" a suburb (grey for no NTs in suburb, red for no NTs in suburb scanned, yellow for partially complete, green for all NTs scanned), or dot colors to show if we've ever scanned at an NT (red for not scanned, green for scanned). Each NW user would need a different map based on the same template. Just wondering. Thanks! {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 07:37, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
*'''Name:''' Mob Chaser
:The NT Status Map is comprised of several templates, which if you wanted to replicate would require you to re-create them, potentially as sub-pages of your own userpage (and just including your userpage prior to the template name). The key difference being that you would not want to link to the NT's status, as dictated by its danger report. Here is a list of the template wikicode you would need to copy:
*'''Category:''' Trophy Ribbon
*'''Description:''' A trophy ribbon awarded to the NecroTechnician who reports a scan with the most zombies (total). This is a competition that runs through the entire year (January 1st to December 31st) with a winner declared on the first day of the new year. All reported scans must be made/linked via [[Iwitness|iWitness]] as proof. This trophy ribbon will be awarded on an annual basis and a list compiled of past winners.
*'''Concerns/Alternates?''': A year? Will people be interested in it for that long? How about running it for a month, annually, and the NecroTechnician who reports the largest total at the end of the month wins for that year.
:Whoever has the highest number gets the ribbon, regardless of contest or time limits. Current winner has a the standard ribbon, past winners are allowed to keep the same ribbon but it is muted in brightness or somehow different but still recognizable as that ribbon. OR have a basic design that can be augmented like our NT scan # ribbon for the total number of zeds scanned. Over 100? 1 gold bar, over 200? 2 gold bars, etc...and of course, a magical over 1000 zed scan just so that we got something to reach for LOL--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 04:18, 4 April 2009 (BST)

:#[[Template:StatusMap_NT]] - This is the primary template where all subsequent templates are linked.
<br><br>
:#[[Template:StatusMap_SuburbDanger]] - The suburb danger report (colour coded chart) and is a sub-template in the StatusMap_NT template.
:#[[Template:StatusMap_SuburbLinks]] - This is where each of the suburb wikipage links are organized and is a sub-template in the StatusMap_NT template.
:#[[Template:StatusMap_Formatter]] - This is the wikicode that displays each NT location's Danger Report-based "status" and is a sub-template (code) in the StatusMap_NT template.
:#[[Template:StatusMap_Legend]] - An index of all the possible NT statuses. You won't need this, but feel free to replace it with one of your own design.

:Now to create the map you want this is what you are going to have to do.
==Twin NTs Ribbon==
Here's a thought, how about ribbons to celebrate scanning from Malton's "twin NTs", namely [[the Cheeke Building]] and [[the Haslock Building]]? As any NecroTechnician worth his salt knows these are the only NT buildings that share the same names in all of Malton, with their locations being in: [[Eastonwood]], [[Ruddlebank]], [[Chancelwood]] and [[Quarlesbank]]. The only overlap we would be looking at is with the NT in Eastonwood, as currently we have the Eastonwood Tour of Duty ribbon, which requires this NT to complete. As there are only 4 NTs, and 3 of them are relatively close together, I figure it's best to create one ribbon for all 4 of them. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 16:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)

:'''Step 1''' - Copy the wikicode for templates 2 and 3 onto new sub-wikipages created under your userpage, with each subwikipage named after the associated template (i.e. User:Extropymine/StatusMap_SuburbDanger).
:Got my vote--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 03:46, 7 April 2009 (BST)
:'''Step 2''' - Copy the wikicode for template 1 onto a new sub-wikipage created under your userpage, but you are free to name it whatever you want (DO NOT save it yet).
:'''Step 3''' - By using the template code for the StatusMap_Formatter template, hardcode it into your new StatusMap_NT template (or whatever you decided to call it). This process will be lengthy as you will need to replace the wikicode for every NT building. Unlike the original StatusMap_Formatter template you will need to make some adjustments as we will not be linking to the Danger Report after all. Here is a sample of the wikicode that you should insert:

==South Malton NT Ribbons==
<font color=red>
I am going to re-post this here as I think it deserves another chance to be discussed. It was pointed out a while back that most of the popular NT buildings which had their own ribbon (for when you report a scan from it) are all in north Malton. As such, I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on what NTs in south Malton deserved credit for being famous in some way, and thus, deserved their own medal ribbon awarded to whomever posts a scan from that location. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:53, 1 April 2009 (BST)

: I would love to nominate my home 'burb, [[Penny Heights]], but for the life of me, all I got is that it is the only 'burb with 2 malls and always ends up being very attractive to both zombies and the PK crowd. :As you can guess the <font color=red>background:</font> value mentioned in Step 3 is where you will set the NT's colour, red or green, depending on whether or not you have scanned the location yet. As noted, to adjust the original wikicode for template 1 to use this new hardcoded method will take some time for you to complete. Obviously as you progress with your scans you will need to edit the template to account for each NT building you have scanned from, but that's to be expected. And there you have it. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 17:19, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
::Hmmm, you may have a point with Whittenside. What we want are NT buildings that have historic value to them. Of the three NT buildings in Whittenside, which one do you believe should be the one most likely deserving of the ribbon medal? [[The Malcolm Building]] is the closest to the fort, but [[the Colglough Building]] is next to a hospital. I'm not familiar with the suburb myself, so I can hardly say which is the more famous location. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 14:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)
::A simpler solution might be to use a list and basic key style map like I used on [[User:Iscariot/Damon_Young/Culture_Tour|The Culture Tour 2008]]. Individual NTs can be checked from the list as and when they are completed and the map can be used as an easy identifier of completed/semi completed/unstarted suburbs. I used grey (ghost town) to indicate suburbs without locations, green (safe) for completed, yellow/orange (dangerous) for semi completed suburbs and red (very dangerous) for unstarted suburbs. This meant I could use existing templates to save myself the confusion and hassle of coding my own, something that I think could put people off. I'd be happy to code up this simpler version if people would like it, I had started on the idea for my Necrotechnician before he idled. -- {{User:Iscariot/Signature}} 17:28, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

::Could you not use [[User:Rosslessness/Carlos#Recon|this map]]? --{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 17:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
:::For South Malton, I am definitely picking Malcolm then. It was a constant struggle to get that scan which took me over a week for just one NT. The area is forever in an uproar between survivors & zeds. Must admit, I don't know if there is a dedicated NT crew there but if there was, they would have their work cut out for them. It's not as deadly as Blackmoore in Ridleybank...but its close--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 15:08, 6 April 2009 (BST)
:::Now that map is easier to manage. You could then use 4 colours (red=no scans, yellow=some scanned, green=all scanned, grey=no NTs) for each suburb. As for the '''# / #''' in each suburb, that could denote how many of the NTs in the suburb you have scanned to date. While not as specific as the NT Status Map idea, it at least would give you an overhead view and not be as large a wikicode monster. From there you could always keep a journal of the specifics associated with this map. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 17:51, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
::::That's the map version people have been using since...forever really. You don't need to mess about adapting the NT Status Map. Check out [[User:Morgan Blair/NecroWatch/NecroNet Scans|Morgan Blair's awesome page]] which has entries for each building, and also that style of map at the bottom. ::::::::Looks good to me. How does everyone else feel? I think it should be moved to the main Template: namespace so everyone can use it and it can get easily categorized. I'd suggest calling it Template:NecroWatchMap or something, to easily distinguish it from the NT Status Map. {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 05:18, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

===2009 NecroWatch Recon Map===
::::What about the Whittenside Combat Tour ribbon?  Rather than make it one specific building in Whittenside, make it all three and theme the ribbon around the Fort Perryn logo. --[[User:BLusk|BLusk]] 21:52, 13 May 2010 (BST)
''[[NecroWatch/A.L.I.C.E. | A.L.I.C.E.]] has thoughtfully assembled this map to track the progress of licensed NecroTechnician NAME's progress as HE/SHE reports NecroNet scans from the many NecroTech facilities spread across the city of Malton.''<br><br>

{| style="border:solid 4px black; padding:5px; font-size:90%; width:800px; height:600px; background-color:#556655" align="center"
:::I realize that I am lat to this conversation but I was only recently made aware of it when BLusk edited it. I would disagree with the assertion that it should be Malcolm (no surprise there since my group has a vested interest in Colglough) and would propose that historically speaking, Colglough is a more appropriate location. Despite the roleplaying value (which I have been attempting to augment as may be seen in the building description) It is a strategic centerpiece to Whittenside, being located just south of the fort and next to a hospital, a factory, and a phone mast. Accordingly, it is often the second target of feral undead retribution once the fort falls. Malcolm usually falls with the fort as a lesser part of a larger struggle, lacking the autonomous qualities of the Colglough building. Add to this the fact that its central location gives Colglough the ability to scan almost the entire suburb (a rarity in NT buildings), and I think that its merits are obvious. I would of course be up for a combat tour of Whittenside ribbon as well, but if a single building is to be elected, I strongly suggest Colglough.  --{{User:A.schwan/sig}} 22:56, 13 May 2010 (BST)

: Without having much history in UD - give the NT Buildings closest to both Forts a ribbon (maybe another for getting both Scans); and give the NT buildings in all 4 corners (farthest from center of map) a ribbon (maybe another for all 4). Seriously, it is not THAT hard to travel around in Malton. And it is fun, i must say. Remember, people tend to collect all they can get - they will still try to get "northern" ribbons as long as they exist. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 23:11, 5 April 2009 (BST)
Good to see more awards avaliable. But heres a moan. If like me your concentrating on SE Malton, theres nothing really i can get! How about an award for the rowcliffe building? I mean its got a zombie group who's only aim is to destroy it!--{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 20:34, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

:Maaan, i did rowcliffe on 22nd, don't won't to return there again. besides, it's just 1 suburb away from morrish, that had an award added. all in one place = bad --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 20:45, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
::I take it then you are recommending ribbons for [[the Malcolm Building]] (Fort Perryn) and [[the Farmer Building]] (Fort Creedy). Then again there is already a ribbon medal for [the Morrish Building]], so I think Farmer NT wouldn't make the cut. There is [[the Maine Building]]... I suppose, but is that grasping at straws? For now maybe we should just consider the Malcolm Building in terms of Fort NTs. On the matter of 4-Corners, well, we have one already for [[the Pask Building]] in [[Dakerstown]] (mission accomplished). I cannot speak for the two south corners, but I do know a lot about the northeast corner. If there was a medal ribbon for [[Dulston]] it would most defeinitely be for [[the Whitlock Building]], aka "The Fortress of Science". The key factor is that we want the ribbons to be associated with historic NT locations. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 14:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)

::OK. Whats a good south eastern award? ITs just impossible in the SE. No ghost towns, no 5 burb NT's. Its 25 suburbs people. Surely we can find something?--{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 20:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
:::Hey Buddy! This is the SOUTH Malton thread, let's keep it straight...LOL:D, Anyway, joining in as well, I would recommend '''[[The Haslock Building|The Mighty Haslock]]''' in [[Chancelwood]], I know, I know...it's way up North. But the scene of ever present zombie sieges because of [[THEM]]. Talk about an organized group of survivors, damn! They put a lot to shame--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 15:08, 6 April 2009 (BST)

:::Dunno... There's a tight group of NTs almost in the corner - i've did them all recently. Did i already grumble about not liking "tours of duty" being bind to suburbs? (if remove grid, most of the "grouping" the NTs listed in tour wouldn't look too logical) --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 20:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
::::Wait. You admonish me for talking about Dulston, and then you bring up Chancelwood? Not cool dude. ;P

:::Maybe [[the Axtence Building]]? It stands near center of it's suburb that doesn't have other NTs or malls. very stand-alone --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 21:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
::::I agree, Haslock has come up before primarily because of THEM running the show from Haslock NT. Huh. I just had a thought... Haslock is famous for something else too, it's one of two sets of NT buildings that share the same name. Now that may be worth considering for a different kind of ribbon medal... but on the matter at hand, yes, we should find out which NT building "south of the border" are worthy of praise. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 15:52, 6 April 2009 (BST)

::::I'm all for providing ribbon medals associated with SE Malton. In general there are two types of ribbon medals associated with suburbs, either one to commemorate an important/famous NT building (i.e. the Blackmore Building) or a "tour of duty". The main stipulation for a tour being that it has 5-6 NTs, or has 4 that are proven be be under constant threat (i.e. because a dangerous zombie horde occupies that suburb for a majority of their time). I don't think I'll add anymore tour ribbons at this time, but you can make a case for an important/famous NT building in your area. Just name the ones you think are famous and tell me why. For example, how famous is [[the Went Building]] in [[Stanbury Village]]? --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 23:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

::I'm sure they wouldn't have any problems with it; having motivated, involved NecroTechs at the ready is always welcome. I will contact THEM to get their blessing. :::Fair enough. How do you propose the requirements for the ribbon? A fixed number of scans over a certain period of time? --{{User:Itsacon/Sig}} 17:47, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
::::I wasn't even thinking of scans but at least 4 (1 per week) would do it. Haslock is a unique place. :::::Went? Quite very famous, it is even believed that the outbreak began from failed experment in this NT. It's always talked about when Nichols is under siege, as all other near-the-mall nts. On the other hand, it's 1 suburb far from Blackmore... --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 07:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, looks like we got the go-ahead with our TOD with THEM. I'll get the ribbon installed and we'll be up and running. Per previous recs, tech must stay with THEM for one month and post at least 5 scans; one upon arrival, one each week thereafter and one final upon departure. Tech should also post on their page start and end dates or at the very least we can use scan post dates as verification for completion of tasks. Tech should be aware that they are not confined to the location of the Mighty Haslock but should assist in any way that makes sure that NecroNet is up & running for this location. '''Comments?'''--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 23:23, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

::::::True, there should be some distance between the NTs, especially when we're fishing for a new title-holder among NTs which are all fairly famous to some degree. A pity the [[Quartly Library]] in [[Roftwood]] isn't an NT. Hmmm. How about [[the Malcolm Building]] in [[Whittenside]]? It seems like a popular NT associated with [[Fort Perryn]]. Someone at least went to a fair bit of trouble to record the building's history on its wikipage. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 12:57, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
*'''Ribbon Design''':[[Image:NWRibbonTHEM.png]]

: On a different note, how about the SW sector if the SE sector will get one?  Sure, I'm glad that the SE sector is being considered since that sector is where my sole char is hanging around the majority of the time. However, the SW sector should be considered, just to be fair.  The northern half of Malton does have the majority of the suburb-related ribbons. --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 16:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
As it has been over a year, I am unanimous in this (as Molly Sugden would say)... this proposal is approved!--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 06:58, 22 April 2011 (BST)
: This thread predates my involvement with Necrowatch so I had not commented thinking it dead. I Happily second this ribbon. Goltaur spent some time there a while back, and The Mighty Haslock, though not unique in name, is unique in character. I would offer though that a log need not be kept on a user page as the image history maintained by the wiki when one uploads scans should suffice. All entries there will be date and time stamped. --{{User:A.schwan/sig}} 21:03, 22 April 2011 (BST)
::Added to template and tested but a description needs to be added to [[NecroWatch/Team#Medals|Medals]] to tell people how to get it. A question though, do we want to go with that ribbon design that uses a group logo or should we use something a bit more neutral? A picture of a wall, a heavily fortified building, or a mass of people might be apt.--{{User:A.schwan/sig}} 21:46, 27 June 2011 (BST)

::I wonder what makes north Malton so damn popular? Well you're in luck, as I planned to release ribbons in sets of three anyway, so one of the remaining two ribbons could be for an NT in SW Malton. :::Just for a note, SW part of Malton has fewer NTs than rest. Look at Crooketon, Mornington, Wykewood, Reganbank, Lerwill Heights - no NTs at all, 1 in Grigg Heights and 1 in North Blythville... A bit thicker in south, but not as thick as in Molebank are, for example, or Eastonwood area. --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 22:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
==Updating Old Scans Ribbon==
Maybe also Assignments or "Missions". If a suburb or two are really, really outdated, NecroWatch offers an assignment to "go to suburb XYZ and update all scans, report back if done". Whoever volunteers first has 7(14?) days to complete this assignment and report back. Completing Assignments may also earn special ribbons. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 19:41, 31 March 2009 (BST)
:I think that this is a fine idea and an easy to one to accomplish. For example, when I was away from the game and returned in Feb '09, no one had updated the scans in Penny Heights' Rothwell NT since August...that's right, August of '08. This ribbon would be one of the easiest to get. Call it the "NT Reviver" kind of like the Ghost Ribbon but...oh! I got it..."The Flying Dutchman!" Always chasing the ghost NT buildings that never appear operational--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 10:23, 6 April 2009 (BST)
::Now how did we move from more tour of duty ribbons (via combined suburbs) to chasing down NT buildings with old scans? This gets its own section. ;)

===Marathon===
::In my opinion there are usually two types of ribbon medals, the kind that was set in stone (i.e. the Blackmore Watchkeeper) and those "situational" ribbons that require proof the task was accomplished (i.e. Ghost Recon). Both require set rules, but especially in the case of situational ribbons, otherwise you may find out the ribbon's requirements were interpreted incorrectly. In this case it would make sense to possibly have a ribbon where you need to locate one or more NTs which have not had their scan image(s) updated within an extended period of time. As we already have Ghost Recon, which has a similar requirement, I would suggest the one for this ribbon have a much larger period... 6 months perhaps? An NT that hasn't been reported to in such a long period needs an update, and a ribbon would be the reward. Possibly the ribbon could have ranks, as suggested by Dr Mycroft for the "Most Crowded Scan". For example, 1 new scan (to replace a 6-month old scan) would give you the base-level bronze ribbon, >10 scans earns the silver ribbon, >20 scans earns the gold ribbon. That, or bars to signify ranks. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 16:17, 6 April 2009 (BST)
: Another thought. How about a ribbon for each of the 4 corners of Malton?  There's already one for [[Dakerstown]]. So let's put one together for [[Dulston]], for [[Miltown]], and for [[New Arkham]]. --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 16:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
:::Just out of curiosity, when is an old scan replaced by the "missing" scan gif picture? --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 18:00, 6 April 2009 (BST)
::::Officially? We originally set it to 6 months. That was due to the fact that we had fewer hands on deck at the time and didn't want to be constantly viewing static. ;)

::I like this, someting like malton wanderer. And solves the whole, nothing in the se problem.--{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 16:52, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
::::However that deadline could be shortened if we decide that we are providing scan more often. However, will that mess with your scan recon map? Since when a static scan is placed the signature often is updated, which might fool your template into thinking the scan was updated. Of course I have not examined your template closely, but I'm assuming that's how it works. If that's the case it might be better to leave it at 6 months and aim to have NecroTechnicians update the scan before then... still, it's debatable. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 15:14, 7 April 2009 (BST)
:::::My script only cares about the Signature of the last scan to determine age. As static has no Signature with a timestamp, it assumes 90 days age for calculation and reports "90 days or older", but this can be changed. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 07:02, 8 April 2009 (BST)
::::::So what you're saying is if we blank the signature when a static scan is placed then it will default to 90 days? That works. We would only need to express upon everyone to not sign the template if they place the static, but rather either leave the old signature or delete it altogether (i.e. leave it blank). --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 13:11, 8 April 2009 (BST)

:::Right, I'll look into creating a ribbon for this. I had actually something planned along these lines, a "marathon ribbon" of sorts that required you to report from a series of NTs (one per designated suburb) along a route, with the goal of completing the course within a set time frame. The four corners were a major part of that course. Later the holders of these ribbons would be allowed to participate in a larger marathon that would involve one of the much anticipated "trophies" I mentioned. For those who don't know, trophies will either be connected to an event (like a marathon possibly) or a stat. For example, say, "Most Populated Scan". The person who wins the trophy holds it and has his name etched into it (so to speak) until the next person wins it. Of course before I go forward with any of this I would like to hear what people think about these ideas. No point starting up something no one is interested in, so it's survey time! --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 17:01, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

:::: How about multiple levels of marathon ribbons or multiple race courses?  Since you were talking about qualifying races for participating in a trophy event, how about a 2-week-long race where one character has to acquire NecroNet scans from all the NT Buildings from each of the corner suburbs (i.e. [[Dakerstown]], [[Dulston]], [[Miltown]], and [[New Arkham]]).  It doesn't matter what order, as long as all the scans are acquired by one profile within the span of 14 days.  The first one to do it in that timeframe would get a qualifying ribbon.  Iwitness would be necessary to record your presence at an NT Building.
:::: Hmmm, maybe it shouldn't be called a ribbon anymore.  If it's going to be an event that's going to be announced as taking place at certain times of the year, maybe it should be called a medal.  It's appropriate since it's going to be used as a qualifier (Possibly have a race one-a-month?) for participating in a trophy event (Trophy race once every three months?  A seasonal event?  Held during each equinox and each solstice?).  --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 17:41, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

:::::To build upon what you suggested Lufio, what we could do is have marathon ribbons, which would act as merits (similar to "tours of duty", just on a grander scale) and marathon trophies/medals that would be awarded to a specific winner of a marathon, rather than just to whoever chooses to participate. A qualification to participate in the trophy/medal race(s) would be to get at least 1 marathon ribbon, for example "Four Corners" could be one. You still have to report that you complete all the required scans from all 4 suburbs from each corner, but you're not competing against anyone but time deadline.
<br><br>

:::::I could create, say, 3 marathon ribbons, with "Four Corners" being the starter. Based on that distance seems a bit "done", as that's the maximum a player can actually travel. The other two ribbons, if I end up opting to create them (based on feedback), would probably have to either be a set path through more dangerous suburbs or increasing the number of NT scans required (i.e. 1 NT from each suburb between Dulston and Dakerstown, for example).
=Discussions: Improvements & Issues=

If you're interested in NecroWatch, are full of new ideas or perhaps want to discuss existing ones, this is the place to do it. Here users can also post about any issues they've encountered, in the hopes of working out fixes. As always post the more current topics at the top of this section.
:::::That said, the marathon trophy/medal would be an event where we set a specific date, and then everyone sets off to collect all the scans. Since you guys are fairly scattered I don't think it's fair to create a "starting point". Rather you can select the NT closest to your location (as they would be evenly spread out in every quadrant so to be fair) and then you move outwards from there. The goal will be to report scans from all the building on the list (race course) in the shortest time possible. To make it interesting I think we should also agree to post a link to each scan in a race header I'll create, so everyone can keep track of how well their competitors are doing. Perhaps even reporting commentary on incidents along the way (i.e. travel to an NT, but find it's being sacked by zombies). The person who completes the race first would then be awarded the trophy/medal (via template) and have their name added to a list on the Members wikipage for that trophy. Also the duration time (from first scan to last) would be posted so people can compare how they do against previous winners.
==[[SIM]]onizing Necrowatch==

It wouldn't be to hard to rig up a system where Necrowatch worked like the [[SIM]]. Originally, SIM used images from the wiki and tiled them into one big map. This would be possible here, using the existing NecreoWatch images, though I don't know any way to ensure that the most recent images are always "on top". Alternately, I could cook up something like I did for SIM, where a greasemonky script (or even just a [[bookmarklet]]) would be used to submit data to a datbase, and that info used to create combined map view. Would people run such a thing?  {{User:Swiers/Sig}} 02:47, 23 April 2010 (BST)
:::::I do have a question, how do you guys think we should handle the way-points? Should it be any NT within a target suburb, or a specific NT in each suburb (for added difficulty), or all the NTs within a target suburb (for even more difficulty)? --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 19:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
:So would it be a plugin, like the auto mapping on borehamwood and monroeville, or would you have to do something else? --{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 09:40, 23 April 2010 (BST)

::The tech I use for SIM is a greasemonkey script; essentially an extension. When it detects the URL for using scent death, it throws up an extra form that lets you submit the data. Its not automatic (though it could be) because I figured users might not always want to send the data. I could code the submission form into a bookmarklet instead, in which case it would work the same as any of the [[witness systems]]. {{User:Swiers/Sig}} 14:09, 23 April 2010 (BST)
:::::I think it would be better to do a list of NT's you had to scan, and that was it. That way you could pick a route, try to anticipate which ones would be powered etc. --{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 19:55, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay, here is what I've come up with so far on the "marathon" ribbon medal(s):
:# Minor marathon ribbons will be isolated to each quadrant, but obtainable by members who prefer to stay on in that quadrant of Malton (4 ribbon medals).
:# Major marathon ribbons will require members to cross all 4 quadrants of Malton in varying degrees based on difficulty.
:# Members must post an iWitness link to their scan in addition to posting the actual scan image.
:# Members must report scans from each of the required NT buildings (way-points), but may do so in any order.
:# The scan images (via iWitness) must all be completed within a specific time period.
:# The fastest time(s) will be recorded for each race, and members ranked according to their times upon successful completion of each race.
:# At least one minor marathon ribbon is required prior to competing for a major/trophy marathon.
:# Some marathon races may include "scoring" based on random factors (i.e. total survivors inside NT, total zombies shown, total ID'd horde zombies, total race time, ect).
:# Races that include scoring will rank racers based on the total score, not just the race completion time (i.e. fastest time).

No doubt this brings up certain questions. The reason for scoring is that it allows shorter races to still have something to aim for other than time. Some races may even be won based on major local battles, so timing itself becomes a factor. Namely, do you try to collect scans when a major horde is assaulting a suburb and hope for a higher score, but risk being killed in the process and your race time penalized for it? To start things off I think I'll create the minor marathon ribbon medals, and two major ribbon medals (the aforementioned "Four Corners" and one other). Based on how much you like these races we can expand from there. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 20:07, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

:No further comments? I'll assume then that you all agree with these guidelines for the marathon ribbon medals. I'll begin work on creating the 6 ribbons previously mentioned and will let everyone know when they are availble. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 18:19, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

===Challenges===
Im thinking out loud. How about other challenges. Maybe a necrotech is experiencing problems, with calibration or something. You could ask a necrotechnician to do X scans from that building within a timeframe of Y days or something. Which would be quite hard with say blackmore.--{{User:Rosslessness/Sig}} 18:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
:That possible. I'm reluctant to place a ribbon medal though at a location where someone can already earn another ribbon medal from reporting there, so I think that may need to be factored in (i.e. Blackmore Watchkeeper). We could create it that the ribbon is not associated with a specific suburb, but instead requires a suburb reported as "Red" (Very Dangerous), although that does bring back the issues associated with proper reporting of the suburb's threat level (i.e. Ghost Recon). The other option is to try and select a suburb known to be a hotspot, say in central Malton. Then the objective would be to report at least once per day for a set number of days. The only concern I would have is if RL came along and ruined it for someone, so we may not wants challenges that take ''too'' long to reduce the likelihood that RL will interrupt it, especially if they lasted for a long time only to have that happen. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 20:26, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
::It would be a challenge if said building is constantly ruined, for example Stonnard and some of Eastonwood NTs. you need to bring your own gen+fuel to make 1 scan (that is enough for recon progress) in such NT, but it (gen) will be destroyed by guarding zombies within few hours. Thus to report, say 7 days in a row is a big challenge indeed! Blackmore? not really, when it is battled, it's easy to spot a moment when there's a running gen without using your own. --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 11:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
::But as an idea, how about a co-op for such ruined challenges? (and ribbons earned in co-op in general) --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 11:45, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
:::I agree, a challenge ribbon would make more sense if it were associated with a specific building, namely one that is known for being often ransacked/ruined or occupied with zombies, but at the same time is not famous enough to merit survivor intervention (so no easy openings or assistance from other survivors). That said, as there is already a "Tour of Duty" ribbon associated with Eastonwood I think we may want to look for another suburb. What about the suburbs along the west border in northwest Malton? I'm fairly sure they stay red/orange or ghost town almost year-round due to the efforts of Extinction. Roywood perhaps? The Gilesi Building in particular is surrounded by 5 empty blacks making it harder to approach and was reported to be "protected" by zombies.

:::On the matter of co-op ribbons, I'm all for it, but can you guys pull it off? NecroWatch is pretty much an organization that scatters you guys across Malton. I would hate to think I'm creating a scenario similar to a co-op mission in Guild Wars, where you have to find a team, but no one (or hardly anyone) is at that mission. It sucks big time. The other option is, well, that co-op is optional. Or more specifically, if you want to work with someone jointly to obtain the ribbons (for each of you), you can or you can work alone. Obviously working alone would be harder. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 13:51, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

::::Well, i've noted recently that my characters sometimes are 1-3 days after Rosslessness or Ottari, I've already met in-game and said hi to Techhead, the Gnome, Ghita and Yabel, so we're not ''that'' spread out. Co-op can help in situations with busy RL that you mentioned. i also don't like it being made too mandatory. --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 19:23, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

:How many days do you guys think a challenge should last for? I'm thinking maybe 5-7 days, with one scan per day. As Duke noted, that could add up to 5-7 generators/fuels. You would also need to factor in possible searches if you lacked the supplies (i.e. working alone) or were killed (you would need to be revived before you miss the 1-day scan window between scans. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 18:17, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

::7 days... 5 days... i cannot decide. i'm bending towards 7 + "you can do it together" co-op (i.e. if another guy posted one today, you may not bother posting your own - it will count to your "team" anyway. Though, leave some kind of limitation, like each co-oping teammate needs to do at least 3 out of 7 if there are two of them and 2 out of 7 if three) --[[User:Duke Garland|<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>]] [[LCD|<nowiki>[</nowiki>]][[User talk:Duke Garland|talk]][[Signature Race|<nowiki>]</nowiki>]] 19:38, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

::2-3 scans out of 7 in itself doesn't seem like much of a challenge in and of itself. How about either we cap co-op as 2-member teams or we incur additional days per each member beyond the initial. So if you try the challenge by yourself it requires 5 scans, 1 scan per day. If you try the challenge with other members for each additional member add +2 days. So 7 days/scans for a 2-member co-op team, 9 days/scans for a 3-member co-op team, ect. That way you share resources and "lives" (should one of you meet an unfortunate end), but it adds additional risk. Regardless though, let's have it that each member of a co-op team would need to report at least 3 of the scans themselves. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 21:37, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
=Scout reports overhaul=
I've been working on giving the scout reports a bit of a facelift, as these are one of the few [[NecroWatch]] items that don't look slick and professional yet. Alka already made a good start with a template, I've expanded a bit on that so that it can convey both building status, survivor and zed count in the scouted area.

=== No Peer Review? ===
In addition to that, it is my intention to move the scout reports to individual pages, similar to the current [[User:NTScan/The_Building_Building]] pages. That way, a technician only has to update one page, and the scan can be shown on several pages, such as the scouting pages in the NecroWatch namespace, and maybe on the suburb or building page (I prefer the latter, similar to the NT scans).

When I was first looking through the site, it all seemed so slick, for a minute I actually believed the "''A.L.I.C.E. automatically promotes''" line... But for all the various ribbons, I figured there would be '''some''' sort of application process, or required documentation, or whatever. ''Heh'', maybe I'm just the kind of person who likes paperwork and such, but of course, having more (or any, where not needed) isn't really a ''good'' thing, and submitting a NecroNet scan already requires updating no less then three wikipages. However, I have this vague feeling of... "'''''impropriety''''''"—for lack of a better description—when I can simultaneously award myself both the All-Seeing Eye Medal '''and''' the Paynterton Tour of Duty Medal, while at no point having to announce, record, or in any way justify that it was in order for me to do so (and "no", I'm not just looking for fanfare).<br><br>
I have an example of my suggestion for the new template in my [[User:Itsacon/Sandbox2|Sandbox]]. What do you guys think? --{{User:Itsacon/Sig}} 13:36, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
So, I have the audacity to suggest consideration of the following "two" implementations. '''One''', expansion of the Recon page (or an additional page in a similar layout), so that licensed NecroTechnicians can sign the record whenever they have been "awarded" a ribbon (and perhaps also ''briefly'' document '''''what''''' it was for: in the case of the All-Seeing Eye, Ghost Recon—''what suburb''—and Combat Recon Medals—''what facility, how many zeds''); and '''Two''', a Talk sub-page where we can just say, ''"Hey, this suburb was listed as a ghost-town "here", and when I scanned it, scans had not been made since "when", so I'm awarding myself "this" ribbon. No disputes? Great."'' Aside from being a place for people (such as myself) to assuage the need for ''some'' measure of "processing", it would be nice to have a place to see when other NecroTechnicians are achieving great feats of NecroNet scanning prowess!<br><br>
Maybe this would all be both totally unneeded '''and''' unwanted (but maybe not), so I thought I'd put it out there, and see if there ''was'' any support for something like this. I don't think it would be at all difficult to do (wiki-wise)—maybe a bit of A.L.I.C.E. humor (and some ASCII art of cake), and as for using it, I don't think it would require any more effort then submitting a routine scan, and would of course need to be done with far less frequency. The hardest part would be to document ''previously'' earned achievements, a task which I would volunteer for of course, it being my proposal! --{{User:Morgan Blair/sig}} 21:50, 29 April 2008 (BST)

:Impressive! I guess this also shows the building statuses? To further "advertise" this, is it possible to have a notifier on the 'burb page (for when the scout report is updated) and then just have the template automatically update everywhere else? We would definitely need a small tutorial on how to update. I must admit I like the sheer simplicity of just taking a screenshot of the 'burb and plugging the numbers in.--[[User:Dr Mycroft Chris|Dr Mycroft Chris]] 17:54, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
::Yeah, building status is represented by the block around the building name (grey for normal, yellow for lit and dark gray for ruined). For the suburb page, I was thinking of a report template similar to the one for NN reports. Something like: `NecroWatch Scouted from XX Towers. The technician spotted x survivors and y zombies in de area around the building' --{{User:Itsacon/Sig}} 07:51, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

== NecroWatch Scan age map ==
==Individual pages for scout reports==
As I'm targeting on NT Buildings with outdated scans, i used my ''leet Scripting skills&trade;'' and created a set of scripts using shellscript and perl. These scripts are fetching the scan image pages, parsing the last scandate, and calculates average scanimage age for all suburbs. It tags suburbs with average scan age up to 14 days as recent, average scan age up to 45 days is old, everything else is outdated. Combined with a variation of my NecroWatch scan map, it can create a "Scan age map", see [[User:Alka_Selzer/Templates/Necroagemap|here]] for an example with recent data. Would that be of use for the NecroWatch pages? --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 13:02, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I've also created several `main' pages that serve as a central place to be updated. I created these in the User:NWScout namespace, first two are [[User:NWScout/Denner_Towers]] and [[User:NWScout/The_Singer_Building]]. These work the same as the User:NTScan pages for NecroNet scans, update these, and all other pages go automatically. There's also a guide on the update process on those pages, and the `update' links on the new scout reports points to them. (Once again, just like the NecroNet scan pages).--{{User:Itsacon/Sig}} 13:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
:Admittedly, I'd find it useful, although not so much for my way of handling things.  I've been tending to make swings into other NT buildings to grab scans, then try and grab as many as my route will allow before returning to relatively familiar surroundings.  Keep it up, though, since it will help me remember which ones in my area I haven't managed to grab lately. --[[User:BLusk|BLusk]] 13:30, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
::It's definitely a good idea that I'm sure will be useful, but the main hurdle here is that in your example you're using the Suburb Danger Map template as your base and unfortunately it covers each suburb with only a single colour-code. The problem with that is if you have NTs in the same suburb with different scan ages then you would have trouble determining which colour to assign it. The better option here would be to adapt the [[NT Status Map]] for your project, as it allocates the colour-code to the status of each NT building, not the whole suburb. I hope that helps. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius]] 12:05, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
:::So far the script is assigning colors on ''average'' scan age of the whole suburb (using 90 days age for missing scans), but I'll take a look at the [[NT Status Map]], looks interesting.--{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 12:48, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
::::Oh ''yes yes YES!'' This is brilliant! This is perfect! Thank you! I've a few questions: how often does this script update? Is it automated? How long will it last? Where is it hosted? [[User:VI|VI]] 04:19, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
:::::So far it does not update automatically, my "testing" version updates [[User:Alka_Selzer/Necrowatch#Scan_Age_Map]] daily at the moment. It runs on my local Linux server, but could be installed on any machine running perl with the [http://search.cpan.org/~retoh/CMS-MediaWiki-0.8013/lib/CMS/MediaWiki.pm CMS::MediaWiki] extension. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 10:16, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
:::::I love it! My only suggestion would be to include a fourth color, orange. Make green 7 days (truthfully, scans are outdated even after just a few days), yellow for 21 days, orange for 45, red for 46+. Great work! {{User:Extropymine/sig}} 04:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
::::::As Mobius said, I'll first take a look at a [[NT Status Map]] like variation, but more colors never hurt :) --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 10:16, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
: [[User:Alka_Selzer/Sandbox1|New Scan Map]]. This is based on the [[NT Status Map]], but the suburbs are colored by combined average scan age, the buildings last scan on mouseover. I also used Extropymine's time suggestion - up to 7 days = Green, up to 21 days yellow, up to 45 days orange, else red. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 13:39, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
:: Notice: The 2nd map on the page is auto-updated every 3 hours by script (i.e. [[User:Alka_Selzer/Sandbox1#Test:_Scan_Age_Map_update]]). It only updates if there is a change, so technically it may not update every time. But with >80 NT Buildings and players from all timezones, probably one scan will age by 1 day every 3 hours so it should update every 3 hours. This update will work until my local server dies or my account on the wiki is gone. --{{User:Alka_Selzer/Signature}} 23:04, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

But rather than lose precious scan information we're stepping up to do the job for you. Just post a link to the iWitness report or image/screenshot with the scan. Bored? Or maybe you just want to help clean-up the NecroWatch Talk wikipage. Either way, if a post thread is more than 6 months old then it deserves to be moved to the '''[[Talk:NecroWatch/Archive|Archive]]'''. Feel free to do so yourself. It's a free world after all, and if there is one thing I support, that's freedom.

I've just taken new scans for the four [[Rhodenbank]] NTs, uploaded the new png files and edited my user name onto the files, but none of the scans actually show the new state-of-play: they continue to show the old scan, even after repeated refreshes of the relevant NT scan page.

== Zerg Epidemic ==
If you are looking for Lufio's older NecroNet scan reports, you can find them [[Talk:NecroWatch/Archive#Lufio's Scans|here]].

'''February 23, 2008''' - After today, I'm going back to uploading my own stuff.  This will be the last Iwitness links I'll be putting up here for a while. Heh, I can't believe those zombie guards in [[the McCullock Building]] are just now finally getting around to damaging the Portable Generator I set up days ago.
Malton appears to have come under fire by a group of zergs designed to halt NT functions citywide. I have ALTs in two NTs on opposite sides of the map and allies in others who are noticing this. The Zergs all have female names (Jessica Baring, Grace Verysmith, Anne Rillie, Chloe Brower, Elizabeth Vetch, Katie Biffen, etc.) and are all level one NT scientists who spawn in NTs. The zergs then prioritize destroying the generator, followed by decadeing. With their last few AP, the zergs throw themselves from the window and stand as zombies outside. I have not noticed these zombies to be active. Since spawning is random and Mitchner in New Arkham has been hit several times, one must assume that this issue is epidemic. Have other members of Necrowatch observed this?
* [[Miltown]] - successful NecroNet scan at [http://iwrecords.urbandead.info/02-23-08_2300hrs_PUBLIC/IN_95-95_NecroNet_-_Flin_c1d-456-e09.html Fliney NT] and at [http://iwrecords.urbandead.info/02-23-08_2300hrs_PUBLIC/IN_97-91_NecroNet_-_McCu_15c-2e3-114.html McCullock NT]
Anyways, with [[Miltown]] done, [[Fryerbank]] is now the last suburb on my list. Once I have those 3 NT Buildings, I will have taken a scan from all the NT Buildings in the SE sector of [[Malton]].  That SE ribbon will be mine! --[[User:Lufio|The Masked Lurker]] 00:36, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

:Many zombies lack the same work ethic common to members of NecroWatch. They're all like, "I'll destroy that generator... later... after my lunch break!". Unionization destroyed many a zombie's will to destroy things ''now''. It's sad really. Oh, and I uploaded those scans and good luck with the SE Master Recon ribbon. --[[User:Mobius187|Mobius187]] 13:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

:[http://profiles.urbandead.net/ This], however, is more compelling evidence. You have screenshots of these characters with similar MOs made within close times to each other co-operating?--{{User:Yonnua Koponen/signature2‎}} 23:09, 21 August 2010 (BST)
::I have not been taking screenshots because the characters will likely never activate again and it is my understanding that this cannot be prevented. The info on spawning was very useful, it explains why some of the NTs have not been hit, and why the rot revive I helped power was struck so soon. It would appear then that to keep out these spawns, an NT must be kept to at least HB. This will mean that most of the NTs hit will be rot revives. Yonnua, I do not know if the link you sent updates but I did not see anyone on it with the right MO (update: I realize now that it does update and that you intended this as a search but watching the most recent 10 ou can see them flowing in. Look for lvl 1 NT characters who instantly become zombies. The most recent example as of the time of this post is [http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1782670 Jessica Petvin]). I can try to collect some screenshots if it will help but they will be difficult because they will have to be collected by several different characters/users in different locations at the cost of many generators. If the collection of this info will be worth the cost, I will do my part but I would suggest a joint venture with any willing Necrowatch Necrotechnician to help collect the data and will try to enlist the aid of Rotter’s Relief. I would want to know before investing in this that there is something to be gained and I would not be asking others to undertake a fool’s errand.

::::The Zerg liste is a wasted effort if the charactes spawn, strike, die, stand, and then idle out as I expect they may do. Watching the 10 most recently created list, it looks like this may be hiting PDs and hospitals as well. I will speak to Rotter's Relief about a temporary increase of 'cades and moniter the situation from outside as a zombie as I was PKed (looking at you Spiderzed :P)

:::::::Yea, my wife saw that one in Blackmore. I have received verification from several sources that this is happening all over Malton and has been getting progressively worse since about the 16th. It seems to target several resources but primarily the NTs. Using what Rosslessness found, all we need to do is barricade to at least HB if there is a generator present. At which point they will not spawn inside the building and only the zerg scouts will be able to do the GKing. The dowside is that this will seriously hurt legitimate new players by cutting them off from resource buildings.

: Seagull, do they match the same MO (female first and last names, GK and never reactivate)? If not, this might be a separate issue; malton is never short on zergs. If so, it is a change of pace as I saw about a dozen yesterday and none of them spoke.

:::I wondered about that. It has been a while since character creation and I was trying to remember if there was a name generator. At any rate, the problem seems to have disappeared. :Hello. Thank you very much for the note regarding the Zerg Epidemic. While I am currently almost retired from the game, I will bring your comment over to the administrative group in Rotter's Relief and we will consider whether further barricading action to be necessary in handling this issue. Normally, we only resort to barricading in cases of a mob tour or as a tactical resupply point when doing cooperatives with other survivor groups.
:Nonetheless, I will still discuss your suggestion with the admins of RR. Generally such trends will wear itself out, in a matter of time. Hopefully we can and will see through it. (P.S. Thanks for dropping by)--[[User:Natakaasd|Natakaasd]] 12:22, 26 August 2010 (BST)

==Nitro378's scans==
An NT I am in was hit by a GKer zerg with the same MO just moments ago. I saw the barricades go down to VSB, and before I could increase them, the zerg was in place and the generator was dented. I attempted a repair and by the time the command went through, the generator was destroyed. The zerg then jumped out the window. When Blackmore fell, there were at least 4 of them inside. The way the cades and generator fluctuated in Blackmore, this says something to the frequency. What this tells us is that a. it is still happening, and b. it happens very quickly. I saw a few in PDs and two in a hospital within an hour yesterday. They are also using scouts with the same MO to freerun into fortified NTs as I have seen in New Arkham recently. If they cannot destroy the generator, they idle out within the building. I watched one in Blackmore and she never reactivated. If they can, they still jump out the window. In some cases the zergs have also attacked the inhabitants of the NT starting with the least active before plunging to their death. They then stand outside as a zombie or clog a nearby RP. I am told that Rot revives are getting the worst of this because of their barricade policy. The flexibility of these things indicates that they are likely controlled rather than bot-driven, and the fact that they cease from time to time indicates that they are subject to active hours by the person or people controlling them. In an attempt to nail down a time range and active days, we may wish to take note of when these GKings happen and see if there is a pattern. I suggest motivated individuals keep their own records and report findings rather than clogging up Necrowatch talk space with individual reports. Alternately, we could ignore it and hope it goes away, but I do not think we can count on that happening anytime soon, or deal with it individually as we have been. I will report on this thread further, only if I manage to find a pattern.

Here you go. Fliney Building. For some reason it took like 3 days for someone to put up a genny.

I thought this only occurred in North Blythville around the last week of August, but I never realized that other people have seen these too. These GK-ing zerg "doctors" would spawn in the two southwest hospitals of Nor.Blythville and would also come in female names like Grace Challenger http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1786799 , April Caple http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1786666 , and the like. While in the hospital, they would kill the generator first (without putting the cades down), then go outside, a building or two away, possibly awaiting to be killed, but just idle out.

But just like what the rest of you have been saying, these zergs stay at level 1, and do not return to activity again. What is more alarming is how the statuses of North and South Blythville and Greentown all of a sudden just went up today, and only in a matter of a few hours was the "2 color shift" carried out. It may be odd for me to think this, but could this sudden surge in those areas be related to this?

== Hello ==

I also updated the Building Status, Necrowatch on their individual pages. Check if you like.
i was trying to update the Jeffrey Building scan and didn't know i needed access to NecroWatch to do that. tried to do that twice, so 1 needs to be deleted or both if you don't use my scan. {{unsigned|Son of Sin}}
What do we need to do to fix it?
:Not a problem. Though Necrowatch installed the terminals, anyone can use them. However, only Necrowatch members can use their reported scans to earn their reward in delicious cake. Join NecroWatch... NOW!

Interested in becoming a full-time NecroTechnician? Of course you are! Who wouldn't want the fame and glory commonly associated with publically posting NecroNet scans, fame and glory lost on those survivors who scan and fail to report their scans. What's up with that? Just be sure to read the FAQ first so you know exactly what you're signing up for. Anywho, if you still want to join then just sign on the dotted line and provide the following information:

User Name - Who you are on the UD Wiki. Sure you could just sign your post and I would know, but this is more formal. What? I'm ALL about formality.
Profile(s) - Provide links to the characters you wish to dedicate to the job of providing NecroNet scans for NecroWatch. You are not limited to just one character, obviously, so long as your alts are not working together or within close proximity. But that just goes without saying.
Group Affiliation - Feel free to plug the group(s) associated with your character(s). I fully support shameless advertising.
Suburb(s) - List the suburbs you plan to cover. If your character(s) is mobile/nomadic then you can simply state "Malton". It's not necessary to report which characters will be reporting scans from which suburbs... after all it's healthy to be paranoid.

Please add your entry to the bottom of the signup list and that's it. Simple right? After that your name will be added to the Members List in the appropriate rank/alphabetical order and then you're official. Of course you don't need to become a NecroTechnician to report scans. In those instances please refer to the appropriate section (below) where you can post links to your NT scans.

But if your comments are generic, then just post them here being sure to keep the newest posts at the top.

Great Suburb Group Massacre 2013

I'm a volunteer helping to do some janitorial work on the suburb pages of the wiki. As part of that, we're double-checking in which suburbs each group is active. Currently, you're listed in one or more suburbs, in addition to using a radio frequency. If you would like to continue being listed, then please respond within the next month with the radio frequency you are using and a list of every suburb where you are currently active. If we don't hear back from you or we can't get the information we need, we'll be removing you from the lists, but you're welcome to re-add yourself later. If you have any questions, feel free to visit our informational page. Thanks. --RWSig1.png RWSig2.pngFoD PK Praise Rando! 10:26, 25 October 2013 (BST)

Didn't think we were listed in any specific suburb. Necrowatch is more of a nomadic institution as A.L.I.C.E. keeps us on the move doing the field reports. I could be wrong, but if no one else chimes in, I would say remove at will. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  Sunday, 27 October 2013
Turns out you're not actually listed in any suburbs, but are listed with a radio frequency. Are you still using it? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Not that I am aware of, but I can't give you an official answer. I would give it a bit to see anyone steps up to champion it and then remove the listing. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  Thursday, 31 October 2013
No one's responded, and it's been a month, so I'm removing the listing. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:09, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

SIM -> NW or v/v?

I've noticed some suburbs, notably ruined ones, don't have updated NT scans. I've taken it upon myself to deliver a la Scentoral Intelligence Map style intel from these NTs. Is this acceptable, should I continue, and what are your thoughts in general on Scent Death + NT scans? Tec7890 T RCDC NW 13:35, 6 July 2010 (BST)

Since we are revisiting old threads, I thought I might chime in on this one.
(5,05),(16,05), (27,05), (38,05), (49,05), (61,05), (72,05), (83,05),(94,05)
(5,16),(16,16), (27,16), (38,16), (50,16), (61,16), (72,16), (83,16),(94,16)
(5,27),(16,27), (27,27), (38,27), (49,27), (61,27), (72,27), (83,27),(94,27)
(5,38),(16,38), (27,38), (38,38), (50,38), (61,38), (72,38), (83,38),(94,38)
(5,50),(16,49), (27,50), (38,49), (49,50), (61,49), (72,50), (83,49),(94,50)
(5,61),(16,61), (27,61), (38,61), (50,61), (61,61), (72,61), (83,61),(94,61)
(5,72),(16,72), (27,72), (38,72), (49,72), (61,72), (72,72), (83,72),(94,72)
(5,83),(16,83), (27,83), (38,83), (50,83), (61,83), (72,83), (83,83),(94,83)
(5,94),(16,94), (27,94), (38,94), (49,94), (61,94), (72,94), (83,94),(94,94)
I have staggered the one block difference in the middle for coverage. Thoughts?
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  22:43, 22 April 2011 (BST)
Cool! Give some time o get up to speed on a few things thanks--Dr Mycroft Chris 04:56, 27 April 2011 (BST)
with a little modification, I have begun working on this project. I am organizing and posting scans here.
For those of you unfamiliar with the scent map skill, the numbers of zombies are translated to green values while the numbers of dead bodies are translated to red. The results are only approximate because the software ads a random value of + or - 1 to each block to create background noise. Still, with numbers like the dead have, it would function very well: what is one zombie more or less in a strike force of 20 or so? (note: there is a one block un-scanned swath down the center cross of the layout above).
Beyond that, a simple program that translated Hex color code to numbers could be applied if you like (someone else would have to write it). The basic conversion formula provided by Swies is HERE. I have tested it and find the zombie conversion rate to be as he indicates.

Scouting In Dentonside

Considering that Dentonside isn't the most busy of places and the survivors groups located within the suburb are at an all time low I could possibly get myself or somebody in my group to do a weekly scout from Denner Towers and update the Necrowatch section on that page.

--Badwolf robotics--talk-Dentonside Power- 02:11, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Cpital Idea!...and welcome aboard. If you need anything, let me know--Dr Mycroft Chris 06:53, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Scan Image Issue

Is there a tool somewhere (e.g. a GreaseMonkey script) to create those map images? I noticed that the images linked from the NecroWatch page are all in the same style but if I take a snapshot of my browser window it looks slightly different (narrower and in a different font.)

And in the iWitness report it looks even worse:
NecronetBad.png

--Catherine Athay 15:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

There are no GreaseMonkey scripts for NecroTech. The map images are just cropped screenshots. The image, however corrupt, still contains the number counts of scanable zeds. I'd say post it anyway, eventually you will figure out why it is happening.
  • What type of browser are you using?
  • Are you on Mac or PC?
  • Screen resolution may be a determinative factor

--Dr Mycroft Chris 16:59, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's just my browser settings, because the page references non-existent images too (that's why you see the black squares on the map, often hiding zed counts which are in black text.)

Anyhow I wrote this CGI script to make it easier to create images from iWitness records.

Here's the output of that CGI for the same scan:
NecronetGood.png

BTW do you know what the various border colours around NT buildings mean? I think dark blue means the building has no power, but when there is power you can see either a light blue or white border. I've always seen a white border around the NT I am in, but sometimes other nearby NTs have white borders too. --Catherine Athay 21:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

I believe, but have never confirmed, white is powered, blue is unruined and grey/black is ruined. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:30, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Necrotech perspective?

I recently checked the Community portal to see if I could do anything. That's when I came across the prior link. "Necrotech perspective?" That has Necrowatch written all over it. DOWN WITH DISORGANIZATION! Any ideas for directive 42-A? I just feel it should be a group effort (we may want to claim it with one of the awesome templates at our disposial like "this page detailing directive 42-A is under construction by the NecroWatch team").--Uberursa 22:12, 23 August 2009 (BST)

Give me some time, I'll get back to you in this; just saw your note. Thanks--Dr Mycroft Chris 14:59, 27 September 2009 (BST)
Ooops! too late, I am...there is no reference to Dir 42-A anymore at your link but if you could write up a monograph of sorts, work could commence.Thanks--Dr Mycroft Chris 01:17, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Announcing the creation of the NecroWatch Research Group

Hello again everyone. I want to invite you all to join me in attempting to unravel the remaining mysteries about the NecroTech machinery left around Malton. Silly discussion header notwithstanding, I'd like to take this opportunity to have a serious look at, particularly, the DNA Extractor device. There is appallingly little information about this device on the wiki, and there are a few glaring holes in our body of knowledge regarding the thing.--Citizen VI 01:55, 3 June 2009 (BST)

Scouting Reports for suburbs without NTs

As the leader for the Order of the Black Rose, I want to sincerely thank NecroWatch for the Scouting Reports posted in Crooketon, Mornington, and Reganbank. Since we are constantly moving through all of these areas, as well as Grigg Heights and Lerwill Heights, I cannot begin to say how valuable these are for these areas that lack NT buildings. Please continue this service! --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 13:16, 3 May 2009 (BST)

Gone Fishing

Well I'm going fishing, for a while... maybe forever. I like fishing, what can I say? But seriously I can't say if I will be gone forever, as I returned once before, but for the time being I will be away and as a responsible adult I felt I was obligated to let everyone know. In the meantime, feel free to continue having fun with NecroWatch and try not to burn down the house while I'm gone. I expect the dishes done when I come back and I'll bring cake. Just joking. There will be no cake.

So good luck everyone and keep up the great work! --Mobius 13:16, 20 April 2009 (BST)

Free time is our only valuable asset. A game, or metagaming, by definition should be fun. If it becomes work, it's time to take a break and try something else. I hope your old/new game is not really about fishing, though ;) -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 18:35, 20 April 2009 (BST)
It was fine having you here and it shall not be the same; it's true you know...one man can make a difference, that's why we will never forgive you for it! ha ha ha !! Seriously, you set a high bar and we'll carry on, stiff upper lip and all that.--Dr Mycroft Chris 18:36, 20 April 2009 (BST)

Your recruitment ad

I'm really anal about things looking right, and I'm just curious as to why, of all your documentation here, the recruitment ad uses a font in a different colour to the blinking cursor image you guys use. It'd make sense that, on a computer of the type you'd see those blinking underscore cursors, the text would read in the same colour. Then again, I have way too much time on my hands for stupid things like this. Eagerly awaiting you calling me a pedant. Tongue.gif Nothing to be done! 22:30, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Why? Are you thinking of joining us in our fight against disorganization & Barhah? ha ha ha, LOL...I don't see anything pedantic in your observation. This whole organization is based on a type of pedantic fussiness that is absolutely essential to our success. Besides, only a fool is angered by a just proof. Medal/Trophy Ribbon Suggestions

Suggested Ribbon Summary

NOTE: The following is a summary of existing ribbon suggestions after the debate over them has ended. These suggestions may have already been moved to the Archive, but in order to track them a summary is listed below. This post is not to be archived (obviously). If you have further comments on a suggested ribbon please start a new thread in this section titled after the ribbon.

Endurance Ribbon

  • Name: Ironclad Scanner
  • Category: Medal Ribbon
  • Description: A medal ribbon awarded to the NecroTechnician who reports 7 scans, 1 per day, from the same NT building (selected by the NecroTechnician) in a "red" (Very Dangerous) suburb. The suburb (i.e. Eastonwood) and/or NT building (i.e. The Blackmore Building) may, or may not, be predefined requirements for the ribbon.
  • Concerns/Alternates?: If famous locations are selected, this may cause ribbons to overlap, such as the Blackmore Watchkeeper or Eastonwood Tour of Duty. Perhaps it would be better to target suburbs based only on their danger status.
Might I posit Colglough as a site for this ribbon if it is to be offered. Colglough also does not overlap any other current ribbons.--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  05:04, 9 July 2011

Marathon Ribbon

  • Name: Four Corners
  • Category: Medal/Trophy Ribbon
  • Description: A medal, or maybe trophy, ribbon which requires NecroTechnicians to report scans from the NTs within specific suburbs scattered across Malton. The NT reports may also be required in a specific order, similar to points in a race course. The first such ribbon would be awarded to any NecroTechnician who reported scans from the NTs located in each of the four corner suburbs (Dakerstown, Dulston, Miltown, New Arkham).
  • Concerns/Alternates?: Any NecroTechnician who has already reported from these 4 suburbs will automatically earn this as a medal ribbon.
There should be a time limit on this run, this way it has to be done anew regardless of previous scans;Flinley in Milltown, Trood in Dulston, Pask in Dakerstown,Mitchner in New Arkham for the circle but you could also criss-cross them too to make it intresting...14 days? I think previous scans don't count, you HAVE to make the run!--Dr Mycroft Chris 20:38, 4 May 2009 (BST)
Yah, you have to announce it here somewhere with a timestamp and then... run! That way, it may be a challenge. -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 22:10, 4 May 2009 (BST)
  • Ribbon Design:NW-M.png

Most Crowded Scan

  • Name: Mob Chaser
  • Category: Trophy Ribbon
  • Description: A trophy ribbon awarded to the NecroTechnician who reports a scan with the most zombies (total). This is a competition that runs through the entire year (January 1st to December 31st) with a winner declared on the first day of the new year. All reported scans must be made/linked via iWitness as proof. This trophy ribbon will be awarded on an annual basis and a list compiled of past winners.
  • Concerns/Alternates?: A year? Will people be interested in it for that long? How about running it for a month, annually, and the NecroTechnician who reports the largest total at the end of the month wins for that year.
Whoever has the highest number gets the ribbon, regardless of contest or time limits. 2 gold bars, etc...and of course, a magical over 1000 zed scan just so that we got something to reach for LOL--Dr Mycroft Chris 04:18, 4 April 2009 (BST)

Twin NTs Ribbon

Here's a thought, how about ribbons to celebrate scanning from Malton's "twin NTs", namely the Cheeke Building and the Haslock Building? As any NecroTechnician worth his salt knows these are the only NT buildings that share the same names in all of Malton, with their locations being in: Eastonwood, Ruddlebank, Chancelwood and Quarlesbank. --Mobius 16:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)

South Malton NT Ribbons

I am going to re-post this here as I think it deserves another chance to be discussed. It was pointed out a while back that most of the popular NT buildings which had their own ribbon (for when you report a scan from it) are all in north Malton. As such, I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on what NTs in south Malton deserved credit for being famous in some way, and thus, deserved their own medal ribbon awarded to whomever posts a scan from that location. --Mobius 13:53, 1 April 2009 (BST)

I would love to nominate my home 'burb, Penny Heights, but for the life of me, all I got is that it is the only 'burb with 2 malls and always ends up being very attractive to both zombies and the PK crowd. Whittenside has a better reason as it is the home of the Feral Undead and Fort Perryn; getting scans there can be regularly difficult--Dr Mycroft Chris 22:47, 5 April 2009 (BST)
Hmmm, you may have a point with Whittenside. What we want are NT buildings that have historic value to them. Of the three NT buildings in Whittenside, which one do you believe should be the one most likely deserving of the ribbon medal? The Malcolm Building is the closest to the fort, but the Colglough Building is next to a hospital. I'm not familiar with the suburb myself, so I can hardly say which is the more famous location. --Mobius 14:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)
For South Malton, I am definitely picking Malcolm then. It was a constant struggle to get that scan which took me over a week for just one NT. The area is forever in an uproar between survivors & zeds. Must admit, I don't know if there is a dedicated NT crew there but if there was, they would have their work cut out for them. It's not as deadly as Blackmoore in Ridleybank...but its close--Dr Mycroft Chris 15:08, 6 April 2009 (BST)
What about the Whittenside Combat Tour ribbon? Rather than make it one specific building in Whittenside, make it all three and theme the ribbon around the Fort Perryn logo. --BLusk 21:52, 13 May 2010 (BST)
I realize that I am lat to this conversation but I was only recently made aware of it when BLusk edited it. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  22:56, 13 May 2010 (BST)
Without having much history in UD - give the NT Buildings closest to both Forts a ribbon (maybe another for getting both Scans); and give the NT buildings in all 4 corners (farthest from center of map) a ribbon (maybe another for all 4). Seriously, it is not THAT hard to travel around in Malton. And it is fun, i must say. Remember, people tend to collect all they can get - they will still try to get "northern" ribbons as long as they exist. -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 23:11, 5 April 2009 (BST)
I take it then you are recommending ribbons for the Malcolm Building (Fort Perryn) and the Farmer Building (Fort Creedy). Then again there is already a ribbon medal for [the Morrish Building]], so I think Farmer NT wouldn't make the cut. There is the Maine Building... I suppose, but is that grasping at straws? For now maybe we should just consider the Malcolm Building in terms of Fort NTs. On the matter of 4-Corners, well, we have one already for the Pask Building in Dakerstown (mission accomplished). I cannot speak for the two south corners, but I do know a lot about the northeast corner. If there was a medal ribbon for Dulston it would most defeinitely be for the Whitlock Building, aka "The Fortress of Science". The key factor is that we want the ribbons to be associated with historic NT locations. --Mobius 14:03, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Hey Buddy! This is the SOUTH Malton thread, let's keep it straight...LOL:D, Anyway, joining in as well, I would recommend The Mighty Haslock in Chancelwood, I know, I know...it's way up North. But the scene of ever present zombie sieges because of THEM. Talk about an organized group of survivors, damn! They put a lot to shame--Dr Mycroft Chris 15:08, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Wait. You admonish me for talking about Dulston, and then you bring up Chancelwood? Not cool dude. ;P
I agree, Haslock has come up before primarily because of THEM running the show from Haslock NT. Huh. I just had a thought... Haslock is famous for something else too, it's one of two sets of NT buildings that share the same name. Now that may be worth considering for a different kind of ribbon medal... but on the matter at hand, yes, we should find out which NT building "south of the border" are worthy of praise. --Mobius 15:52, 6 April 2009 (BST)

THEM Tour of Duty

I think we ought to have a ribbon for completing a TOD with THEM at The Mighty Haslock. At least a month so that the tech has experience.--Dr Mycroft Chris 17:30, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

And how does THEM feel about that? :-) --Itsacon 06:02, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure they wouldn't have any problems with it; having motivated, involved NecroTechs at the ready is always welcome. I will contact THEM to get their blessing. Who knows, we might even get a few new NecroTechs out of it...--Dr Mycroft Chris 17:14, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. How do you propose the requirements for the ribbon? A fixed number of scans over a certain period of time? --Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 17:47, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't even thinking of scans but at least 4 (1 per week) would do it. Haslock is a unique place. As far as I know, it is the only NT that is so ferociously manned and as such could be a good training ground for our members.--Dr Mycroft Chris 05:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Comments?--Dr Mycroft Chris 23:23, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Ribbon Design:NWRibbonTHEM.png

As it has been over a year, I am unanimous in this (as Molly Sugden would say)... this proposal is approved!--Dr Mycroft Chris 06:58, 22 April 2011 (BST)

This thread predates my involvement with Necrowatch so I had not commented thinking it dead. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  21:03, 22 April 2011 (BST)
Added to template and tested but a description needs to be added to Medals to tell people how to get it. A question though, do we want to go with that ribbon design that uses a group logo or should we use something a bit more neutral? A picture of a wall, a heavily fortified building, or a mass of people might be apt.--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  21:46, 27 June 2011 (BST)

More Tours of Duty

We could possibly combine East and West Becktown, a total of 7 Necrotech facilities, and North and South Blythville, for a total of 5 Necrotech facilities.--ChuckWade87 14:12, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

That's certainly possible. --Mobius

Updating Old Scans Ribbon

Maybe also Assignments or "Missions". If a suburb or two are really, really outdated, NecroWatch offers an assignment to "go to suburb XYZ and update all scans, report back if done". Whoever volunteers first has 7(14?) days to complete this assignment and report back. Completing Assignments may also earn special ribbons. -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 19:41, 31 March 2009 (BST)

I think that this is a fine idea and an easy to one to accomplish. I got it..."The Flying Dutchman!" Always chasing the ghost NT buildings that never appear operational--Dr Mycroft Chris 10:23, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Now how did we move from more tour of duty ribbons (via combined suburbs) to chasing down NT buildings with old scans? This gets its own section. ;)
In my opinion there are usually two types of ribbon medals, the kind that was set in stone (i.e. the Blackmore Watchkeeper) and those "situational" ribbons that require proof the task was accomplished (i.e. --Mobius 16:17, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Just out of curiosity, when is an old scan replaced by the "missing" scan gif picture? -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 18:00, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Officially? We originally set it to 6 months. That was due to the fact that we had fewer hands on deck at the time and didn't want to be constantly viewing static. ;)
However that deadline could be shortened if we decide that we are providing scan more often. --Mobius 15:14, 7 April 2009 (BST)
My script only cares about the Signature of the last scan to determine age. As static has no Signature with a timestamp, it assumes 90 days age for calculation and reports "90 days or older", but this can be changed. -- -Alka Selzer- [ Talk - Map - Stuff 07:02, 8 April 2009 (BST)
So what you're saying is if we blank the signature when a static scan is placed then it will default to 90 days? That works. We would only need to express upon everyone to not sign the template if they place the static, but rather either leave the old signature or delete it altogether (i.e. leave it blank). --Mobius 13:11, 8 April 2009 (BST)

Discussions: Improvements & Issues

If you're interested in NecroWatch, are full of new ideas or perhaps want to discuss existing ones, this is the place to do it. Here users can also post about any issues they've encountered, in the hopes of working out fixes. As always post the more current topics at the top of this section.

SIMonizing Necrowatch

It wouldn't be to hard to rig up a system where Necrowatch worked like the SIM. Originally, SIM used images from the wiki and tiled them into one big map. This would be possible here, using the existing NecreoWatch images, though I don't know any way to ensure that the most recent images are always "on top". Alternately, I could cook up something like I did for SIM, where a greasemonky script (or even just a bookmarklet) would be used to submit data to a datbase, and that info used to create combined map view. Would people run such a thing? SIM Core Map.png Swiers 02:47, 23 April 2010 (BST)

So would it be a plugin, like the auto mapping on borehamwood and monroeville, or would you have to do something else? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 09:40, 23 April 2010 (BST)
The tech I use for SIM is a greasemonkey script; essentially an extension. When it detects the URL for using scent death, it throws up an extra form that lets you submit the data. Its not automatic (though it could be) because I figured users might not always want to send the data. I could code the submission form into a bookmarklet instead, in which case it would work the same as any of the witness systems. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 14:09, 23 April 2010 (BST)

Scout reports overhaul

I've been working on giving the scout reports a bit of a facelift, as these are one of the few NecroWatch items that don't look slick and professional yet. Alka already made a good start with a template, I've expanded a bit on that so that it can convey both building status, survivor and zed count in the scouted area.

In addition to that, it is my intention to move the scout reports to individual pages, similar to the current User:NTScan/The_Building_Building pages. That way, a technician only has to update one page, and the scan can be shown on several pages, such as the scouting pages in the NecroWatch namespace, and maybe on the suburb or building page (I prefer the latter, similar to the NT scans).

I have an example of my suggestion for the new template in my Sandbox. What do you guys think? --Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 13:36, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Impressive! I guess this also shows the building statuses? To further "advertise" this, is it possible to have a notifier on the 'burb page (for when the scout report is updated) and then just have the template automatically update everywhere else? We would definitely need a small tutorial on how to update. I must admit I like the sheer simplicity of just taking a screenshot of the 'burb and plugging the numbers in.--Dr Mycroft Chris 17:54, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, building status is represented by the block around the building name (grey for normal, yellow for lit and dark gray for ruined). For the suburb page, I was thinking of a report template similar to the one for NN reports. Something like: `NecroWatch Scouted from XX Towers. The technician spotted x survivors and y zombies in de area around the building' --Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 07:51, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

News template

I've made a first draft for a news template (to be used on a suburb page after performing a scout report. Have a look here. --Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 13:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I created the template at Template:NWScout, first use in Dentonside --Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 18:56, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Individual pages for scout reports

I've also created several `main' pages that serve as a central place to be updated. I created these in the User:NWScout namespace, first two are User:NWScout/Denner_Towers and User:NWScout/The_Singer_Building. These work the same as the User:NTScan pages for NecroNet scans, update these, and all other pages go automatically. There's also a guide on the update process on those pages, and the `update' links on the new scout reports points to them. (Once again, just like the NecroNet scan pages).--Itsacon (Talk | Grungni | Ikhnaton) 13:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Report NecroNet Scans

Do you have a NecroNet scan you're dying to share with NecroWatch? Too lazy/evil to update the it yourself? We understand, and in some cases, our sub-goal is to discourage people from thinking this job is easy so all our NecroTechnicians are treated almost like gods for performing actions that, without all the smoke and mirrors, are fairly straightforward. But rather than lose precious scan information we're stepping up to do the job for you. Just post a link to the iWitness report or image/screenshot with the scan. Be sure to date it, or else your timestamp will be considered the date/time the scan was taken. In the case of iWitness reports we use the provided MT (Malton Time). You will of course be given credit for any and all scans you post here. How awesome is that? No, don't think about it! Just believe us. Excellent.

All scans have been removed to their own page to reduce excess clutter here on the talk page. To see or post any scans go HERE--Dr Mycroft Chris 01:04, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Archives

Bored? Or maybe you just want to help clean-up the NecroWatch Talk wikipage. Either way, if a post thread is more than 6 months old then it deserves to be moved to the Archive. Feel free to do so yourself. It's a free world after all, and if there is one thing I support, that's freedom.

Scans not updating?

I've just taken new scans for the four Rhodenbank NTs, uploaded the new png files and edited my user name onto the files, but none of the scans actually show the new state-of-play: they continue to show the old scan, even after repeated refreshes of the relevant NT scan page.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've checked my scan files on my PC and they show the correct status, so why hasn't the wiki updated the scan images as normal?--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 13:31, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Without SYSOP privs, it is impossible for me to see the old scan and compare; my best guess is that the wiki server is experiencing technical difficulties...Please Stand By LOL--Dr Mycroft Chris 19:46, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Surely A.L.I.C.E. can access whatever she - it? - wants... Happily, the scans have actually updated now, just in time for me to update them all again.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 12:57, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I think what's happening is that after updating the scan, your browser still has the old image in its cache. Refreshing the page usually works. Chief Seagull talk 15:28, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

yes. That is correct. You need to reload your browser, then it will update. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:31, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
As I said in my original post, it wasn't showing the new scans even after repeated refreshes. But it's all okay now. Huzzah for Science! --Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 15:45, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Zerg Epidemic

--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  22:57, 21 August 2010 (BST)

Spawning isn't entirely random. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 23:02, 21 August 2010 (BST)
This, however, is more compelling evidence. You have screenshots of these characters with similar MOs made within close times to each other co-operating?--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature2 23:09, 21 August 2010 (BST)
I have not been taking screenshots because the characters will likely never activate again and it is my understanding that this cannot be prevented. The most recent example as of the time of this post is Jessica Petvin).
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  23:54, 21 August 2010 (BST)
It has also happened in Eastonwood. Elizabeth Swabey destroyed the gennie in the Tryme Rot Revive within 7 minutes of creation, according to my #mcm chat log. -- Spiderzed 00:10, 22 August 2010 (BST)
Crowbank, too. Jessica Adler destroyed the generator in the Mydleham NT on August 20th and was later spotted dead on the ground outside. Forgive me; I had a screenshot and lost it. Leon Silverblood 09:28, 22 August 2010 (BST)
Well, you could get them on the Zerg liste with evidence of co-operation, but I doubt there'll be much you can do about stopping the attacks.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature2 00:14, 22 August 2010 (BST)
The Zerg liste is a wasted effort if the charactes spawn, strike, die, stand, and then idle out as I expect they may do. Watching the 10 most recently created list, it looks like this may be hiting PDs and hospitals as well. I will speak to Rotter's Relief about a temporary increase of 'cades and moniter the situation from outside as a zombie as I was PKed (looking at you Spiderzed :P)
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  00:21, 22 August 2010 (BST)
One of my characters has noticed an odd amount of level ones powering down a consistently safe, VSB PD. I might provide heavily censored screenshots in the future. --VVV RPMBG 06:17, 22 August 2010 (BST)
Had a level one GK in a necrotech I was in too. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do other than wait for the zerger(s) to get bored. ~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 06:28, 22 August 2010 (BST)
Yea, my wife saw that one in Blackmore.
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  08:03, 22 August 2010 (BST)

We recently had a spate of GKings at the Peet Building and the factory next door.[1][2] One of the zergs even had the time to tell us "this NT is screwed, I am out of here" before just standing there and letting me sharpen my pistol skills, while the others just stood around outside for a couple of days. Seagull, do they match the same MO (female first and last names, GK and never reactivate)? If not, this might be a separate issue; malton is never short on zergs. If so, it is a change of pace as I saw about a dozen yesterday and none of them spoke.

They seem to me like the standard names the game suggests (resulting in regular proper names with first and last name). Would make sense for throw-away zergs. -- Spiderzed 22:17, 22 August 2010 (BST)
I wondered about that. It has been a while since character creation and I was trying to remember if there was a name generator. At any rate, the problem seems to have disappeared. I saw about a dozen yesterday but none today. Might I suggest we consider a policy if this reoccurs and becomes an issue in future? Perhaps a color coded NT zerg attack alert level. That is informational and within the limits of Necrowatch’s jurisdiction is it not?
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  05:28, 23 August 2010 (BST)
I think if you try and take a name which already exists, a random name is suggested. As for the zerg alert system, I think this would be a great idea - I dare say ALICE could cope with a bit of extra info. Chief Seagull squawkFree running! 08:22, 23 August 2010 (BST)
Hello.
Nonetheless, I will still discuss your suggestion with the admins of RR. Generally such trends will wear itself out, in a matter of time. Hopefully we can and will see through it. (P.S. Thanks for dropping by)--Natakaasd 12:22, 26 August 2010 (BST)

As Rosslessness directed me here, I thought I'd add a report: Pole Mall is suffering from similar problems. We have a nest of around 50 disposable zergs in Purt Walk Fire Station. They kill generators, soften cades, and don't stand up when you kill them. Albert, if you're looking for data, my Resens report is here. --JN 08:03, 1 September 2010 (BST)

As for the character of mine in Wray Heights, she has not seen anything of this kind, or perhaps she has just been going to the right places.

The sudden increase in danger was caused by the arrival of BB3. --VVV RPMBG 04:40, 11 September 2010 (BST)
Zerg strike:-Here is a recent example --Belisarius17 04:19, 14 September 2010 (BST)
You are inside the Craigie Building. The NecroTech logo is set in the wall behind the front desk, and doors open onto powered-down computer rooms and laboratories. The building has been quite strongly barricaded. There is a powered-down radio transmitter here. Somebody has spraypainted Post Tenebras Lux! THE WULVES!!! onto a wall.
   * June Attewill destroyed the generator. (38 minutes ago)

http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1793710

I then checked outside to see if Ms Atwell followed the same MO described above:
You are standing outside the Craigie Building, a tall metal-and-glass building, its windows missing and broken. You recognise it as being owned by NecroTech. The building has been quite strongly barricaded.
Somebody has spraypainted BLADES IS WATCHIN' onto a wall.
There is a lone zombie here.
There are three dead bodies here.

Is your Radio frequency still in use?

Stop hand.png 2010 Group Radio Activity Query
In order to maintain the wiki as an up to date source of information groups are occasionally removed from the Radio pages when they are no longer active.

Is this group still actively using the frequency specified on the Radio page as theirs? If so simply confirm here by writing something below. If not, it's frequency will be removed from Radio pages in 14 days.

I'm sorry if this is an inconvenience or it seems relatively stupid when put into context of your group, but it is our interest to treat all groups on the same level when doing these purges. A reply within 2 weeks will be greatly appreciated. -- LEMON #1 12:21, 25 August 2010 (BST)

No response has been made in 2 weeks, and as such, your group will be removed from the list. If you come back at a later date and would like to reserve this frequency again, just place it back onto the available frequency of your choice. Thank you. -- LEMON #1 13:32, 8 September 2010 (BST)
We/re back!! We've taken 26.52. Thanks--Dr Mycroft Chris 06:53, 22 April 2011 (BST)

Hello

i was trying to update the Jeffrey Building scan and didn't know i needed access to NecroWatch to do that. tried to do that twice, so 1 needs to be deleted or both if you don't use my scan. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Son of Sin (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Not a problem. Though Necrowatch installed the terminals, anyone can use them. However, only Necrowatch members can use their reported scans to earn their reward in delicious cake. If you are going to report scans, you might want to consider signing up. ALICE is always looking for more test subjects dedicated researchers.--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  01:05, Friday 26 August 2011

NecroWatch Hub's Scan Age Map is Not Updating

Located here. Is anyone able/know who to contact to get this running again? --Hyper Anthony 23:00, 2 September 2012 (BST)

Unfortunately, that map does not appear to be automated. It is here if you want to look at it but each NT looks like it must be updated manually--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  Sunday, 2 September 2012
Thanks for the follow up. It looks like that page you linked was actually fairly regularly updated by User:NWBot, but it hasn't been active in about 3 years. I hadn't realized it had been offline for so long... this may be a dead end, then. Thanks anyway. :) --Hyper Anthony 23:22, 2 September 2012 (BST)
Actually, after thinking about it a bit more, I might take a stab at making a bot to replace the old bot's functionality. Do I need anything more than the MediaWiki API to get started on that? --Hyper Anthony 23:37, 2 September 2012 (BST)
Should be pretty straightforward if you are comfortable with bots. I am not familiar with them, so I can't help you there. While we are talking about bringing back the old features, I thought I might throw it out there that it also might be nice to stat using this template again every so often when we scan. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  Monday, 3 September 2012
