UDWiki:Administration/Protections/Archive/2011 06
This page is for the request of page protection within the Urban Dead wiki. Due to philosophical concerns, the ability to protect pages is restricted to system operators. As such, regular users will need to request a protection from the system operators. For consistency and accountability, system operators also adhere to the guidelines listed here.
Guidelines for Protection Requests
All Protection Requests must contain the following information in order to be considered:
- A link to the page in question. Preferably bolded for visibility.
- A reason for protection. This should be short and to the point.
- A signed datestamp. This can be easily done by adding ~~~~ to the end of your request.
Any protection request that does not contain these three pieces of information will not be considered, and will be removed by a system operator.
Once the protection request has been entered, the request shall remain on this page, where it will be reviewed by a member of the Sysop team, and action taken accordingly. Once action has been taken, the system operator will add a comment including a signed datestamp detailing his course of action, and the request will be moved into the Recent Actions queue, where it will remain for one week. After that week is up, it may be moved to the archive (see navigation box below). If the Protection has been granted, the system operator should place the tag {{protect}} on the page(s) that have been protected.
In the event of a system operator requesting a Protection, all the previous points will apply, excepting that a system operator other than the requestor shall review and take action on the request.
Pages in the Protection Queue may already be scheduled protections. For a list of scheduled protections, see here.

- For Clarification, Bob is one of three commissioners of the DHPD, I am one of the other three and I do not support a Lock of all of our Wiki pages. Conndraka is not part of the DHPD Staff or group Administration and this Lock was requested without the DHPD Members and other Commissioners being aware of it. If possible, I would like these pages to be unlocked so that we may continue our day to day operations. FaMzNeSS 09:19, 26 October 2009 (EST)

- I'll admit to being very confused about this lock. Apparently it has something to do with a plan to copyright the group name. However this morning was the first most of us ever heard of it. Can someone explain why our pages suddenly had to be locked when they are used daily by the group to manage PKer lists and the like? Louise 13:07, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Conndraka is not a ranking member of the group he requested a lock on, and Bob is only 1 of 3 of our ruling body, and acted without the permission (or even knowledge) of the other 2. The pages in the DHPD or Dunell Hills Police Department namespace are used on a daily basis by members of the group for maintaining squad rosters, operations pages, warranted offenses (PKer lists), radio broadcasts, and more. Conndraka has no factual basis for requesting the lock. Why in the hell would we "damage" pages that we have worked so hard to build and maintain in the first place?!!?! - HaliphaxTCS 14:16, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- How about this, as the guy who went through all the trouble to do the job in the first place, you start from the top, with all parties saying what the fuck is going on and why you guys are in disagreement and everything. I had two members of the group ask for it, with no dissent for days. So, if you want it reversed, I need more details. k?-- SA 14:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- This looks like a potential arbitration nightmare. I thought something similar to this might be happening. Louise, the idea of people copyrighting a group name to try and force a settlement to a dispute is laughable. The DHPD can't be copyrighted as it's based on the intellectual property of another individual to which they have no assent or control, any attempt for them to 'protect' their 'copyright' of DHPD will be laughed out of any court in the civilised world. Haliphax, what SA is saying is prove to us that you have the control of the pages. Show us that Conndraka has no position of power and that there are three individuals that control the group and two of them categorically want the pages unprotecting. I've glanced through the DHPD pages (which are a mess of mislabelled links BTW) and I can't see any rank or grade structure nor any indication of leadership. Prove to this wiki that you have the control and support that you claim and we'll happily acknowledge that the pages belong to you. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 14:43, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Iscariot. I really have very little idea what is going on. All Conn would tell us when we asked was that it was locked for "Copyright" reasons. Other group members say that Conn and Sharko (group founder) are seeking to claim copyright on possibly the group name, or possibly the material about the group on the Wiki. As you say it seems unlikely that they could copyright the name, but there is also a limit I suspect to how much effort people will be prepared to put into fighting it if he does seek to do so. However there are parts of our Wiki pages that are in daily use and it is disruptive to have them locked even for a few days. Louise 15:30, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

- This was done without the approval of the senior staff, Our group is spearheaded by three elected department heads and the squad leaders; Our recent wiki overhaul was done by Jim Extreme (An extremely talented, long time member.) assisted by group of DHPD officers including myself. All of these changes have been planned and supported by the group at large; furthermore, there is not one officer in our ranks who would damage this group's page to spite anyone, this kind of insanity is damaging our groups operations and it must be stopped here now... --Marty Banks (aka. - I don't need to be thanked, I'm not a sysop and have done no work on this. I'm just trying to expedite a solution to an apparent problem affecting a group's access to the wiki. We as the wiki now understand that the DHPD is run by a three person council and that one of them has requested a lock (FmrPFCBob), and one of them hasn't (FaMzNeSS). That seems to leave the problem deadlocked at a single vote, perhaps if this third individual came forward it would resolve this. It might seem like pointless hoop jumping to some of you guys, but we don't know who's 'right' and who's not and in such a situation I'm sure you'd agree that it's always better to protect something until you're sure. FaMzNeSS, I don't think having members of the wiki sign up is the quickest way to resolve this, screenshots of the relevant posts might be easier as all members of the community can then see the evidence. You can upload images directly to the wiki using the toolbox on the left hand side of your screen. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 14:58, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

- Apologies for not catching this sooner, as we mentioned earlier we weren't aware of the lock until a member went to edit a page. We're not particularly active outside our wiki pages. -- Peter McGrady FoD 15:07, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, thanks for posting. Although your wiki user name is the same as the name listed on the organisational chart you've given us, the fact that your account is new could lead some to say that it was created just to resolve this. What's likely to happen then (to ensure that no-one's using sockpuppets) is that your IP address will be checked to ensure that you are (as far as such checks go) a real and individual user. If it's proven so, I imagine the pages will be unprotected and this matter resolved. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 15:23, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I've unprotected Dunell Hills Police Department/Most Wanted/Expired Warrants and Dunell Hills Police Department/Most Wanted as two of the high use pages, until we work out what's going on. Unless those demanding this wholescale protection can show a real reason for it, they will need to go through arbitration to show why they should have sole editing rights to the DHPD group-space when precedent has it open to all members to update warrants and other pages -- boxy talk • teh rulz 20:42 26 October 2009 (BST)
- How long is this temporary opening going to last? I appreciate you unlocking those two pages, however we'd like the whole thing unlocked so we can also edit the main page (as there is a vote for new leadership taking place), also squad Rosters and Department rosters. All of these pages shouldn't have been locked in the first place, since Conndraka has no authority to do so, he basically went completely around the group, talked to Bob only, and locked our pages without us knowing. It was a very cloak and dagger sort of thing to do, and he obviously has his own agenda in mind. I don't think it's fair that he got all of our pages locked so easily, and now we have to go through hell and high water just to get them back. --FaMzNeSS 18:58, 26 October 2009 (EST)
- Well, unless Conndraka or Bob come up with some valid reason to the contrary, I'd suggest that all of the pages should be unlocked in a day or two. If you have any that require urgent updating (other than the main page), please list them here for unprotection. Have your elections (how long do they last?) and by that time we should have an outcome here -- boxy talk • teh rulz 01:08 27 October 2009 (BST)

- Many thanks to the sysops for the calm and reasonable manner in which this has been looked after. As mentioned, FmrPFCBob has resigned from his leadership role, but both Ian and FaMzNeSS still hold command positions. Either of these two are able to speak for the group as a whole, which can be clarified at our forums ( www.dhpd.tk ) if needed -- Sanpedro 06:52, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
A number of the above people are now looking at leaving the DHPD and forming a new group under a different name, meanwhile back on the message boards feelings are still running hot and pissy. Additionally there is rumors of possible vandal spree on our pages to coincide with Halloween and The anniversary of the DHPD. I'd recommend and request leaving the protections up through Nov 2. that way maybe a few folks tempers will cool and give enough time for issues to resolve. ConndrakaTAZM CFT 11:16, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Feelings are running "hot and pissy" due to the actions of Conndraka behind the backs of the DHPD members, not to mention Conndraka has no authority to request such a lock. These rumors of a "vandal spree" are completely unfounded and there is no proof that they will take place. Conndraka has refused to provide us with this information time and time again. As you can see, a variety of people requested this lock be lifted, and only one person wants it to remain. We would appreciate honoring our request to unprotect our pages. -- FaMzNeSS 11:23, 28 October 2009 (EST)
- Actually, anyone can request a lock on a page. You don't have to be a group member either. IF you aren't though, the only reason to protect the pages would be to protect it from a currently occurring vandal attack, or similarly important reasons. Right now, there isn't. If there ends up being a v&al spree though I will personally go through each and every page in the DHPD name space to make sure they're as they originally were. So barring that, this case is closed now. A new request can be made if there's a good enough reason to, but I do not expect it to come from Conndraka or any singular DHPD member. - Not exactly. They still have to have a good reason. We're pretty good at ignoring that stuff. Conn has just been the DHPD guy to me for as long as I can remember. :D -- SA 20:35, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

I've gone through and moved all those pages with the DHPD prefix to the correct place. I suggest that we leave the main DHPD page protected, along with the page element DHPD templates, but unprotect the rest. Whoever is responsible for the DHPD presence on the wiki (preferably a few of you) should have all your pages on their watchlist, and monitor for vandalism regularly -- boxy talk • teh rulz 21:18 28 October 2009 (BST)
- I appreciate that, however is there any way we can add a list of moderators (at least for the time being) so we can edit the main page? Reason being: Bob is no longer part of the Commissioner team, making our page incorrect. We would also like to list all three Commissioners on the main page to prevent such confusion in the future. I believe we also may need to update links to list DHPD leadership elsewhere as well. For starters, if you could add myself as one of those editors it'd make the situation much easier for us. Thanks! -- FaMzNeSS 21:00, 28 October 2009 (EST)
- When you've finalised your elections, and decided on a command structure (if one, two or three members have final say), let us know in the "requested edits" section, and we'll fix it up for you. If there is no problem after November, then the main page can probably be unlocked too, if it needs regular updating (they usually don't). I've just been voted in as the new Commissioner General of the DHPD. Hopefully commanderian, Famz, Sanpedro and others will be able to confirm this over the next couple of days. Our understanding is that Conndraka is in the process of trademarking the name Dunell Hills Police Department which may necessitate a change of group name and a wholesale move and rewrite of our pages as a result. Given Conndraka says there is a specific halloween-related threat to the pages (although he hasn't informed us of this). I'd like to request that all our pages be unlocked as soon as possible on the 1st November. Given there is a possibility of a group rename is there somewhere on the wiki where we should specifically announce such a change? Louise 17:25, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- A) The pages should all already be unlocked. We'll just fix up the vandalism if anything happens, like usual. B) How the fuck do you copyright a name in a game? Especially when the game isn't yours? I'd just keep using it, and tell Conn to fuck off. If there's a name change and stuff, which would mean the DHPD exists still, you'd just create a new page with your new name. If there are any other issues just let one of us 'ops know and we'll take a look at the situation. Sound good to you? Did I cover all your concerns?-- SA 20:13, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

- Our internal issue is resolved and our friend Conndraka is now a blacklisted member... It fills all of us in the department with great hurt that we would have to exile one of our own brothers; by causing this upheaval and the resignation of one of the most respected leaders his actions have been extremely damaging and when confronted he behaved poorly and remains deceptive and disrespectful. It is a dark day for the DHPD when a leader of such caliber falls. Should he request any further locks on our behalf please disregard it and inform us; I only hope that we have seen the end of this hellish nightmare and will soon see our pages restored to allow members to resume contributing to all of our pages. --Marty Banks (aka. Between User:Sporane and User: SporeSore there are two line breaks instead of one. Yay, pointless janitorial edit!--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:51, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Vandal Pages
I placed the Banned User template on the following, it's a scheduled protection.

The last deletion request (Template:Shall Not Pass) has been placed below the navigation template. Unless there's some reason for that, shouldn't the template be at the bottom?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:56, 15 October 2009 (BST)
- And this one doesn't have a navigation template at all.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:57, 15 October 2009 (BST)
- Did you check the top of the page, perchance? Cyberbob Talk 08:10, 15 October 2009 (BST)
- Hmm, very odd. I could have sworn that wasn't there a moment ago. Ah well.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 08:14, 15 October 2009 (BST)

FedCom: Urban Dead
Add a link to FedCom/Awards on the talk of FedCom please.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:09, 8 October 2009 (BST)
DEA
Adding a link to The North West War - DEA on their talk page ?--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:54, 8 October 2009 (BST)
Liberation of Crossman Department/Archive
As below, please can it be linked from Talk:Liberation of Crossman Department--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:45, 8 October 2009 (BST)
Talk:The Dead
More of the same as before, really. Could you put these two links in a new section at the bottom of Talk:The Dead? That way, they become unorphaned, and The Dead's talk page is thus the best place to link them from.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:03, 8 October 2009 (BST)
First Siege of Caiger Mall
I would like the heading "===Survivor Critical Mass===" to be replaced with "===Survivor [[Critical Mass]]===". The link would make Critical Mass unorphaned, and would also provide further context to the expression as is used in the Caiger article.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:18, 7 October 2009 (BST)
- I just realised that I made critical mass unorphaned with this post. But I'd still like it if it had a real usage.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:19, 7 October 2009 (BST)
Guide
This is Rohndogg1 and I wrote The Newbie's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse I would like to ask that it be un-protected so that I may revise it as I have changes to be made to it. I will then leave it un-protected so you won't have to worry about doing that again. --Rohndogg1 13:49, 2 October 2009 (BST)
EVIL's September History Archive
Just there to be pretty now. I'd like it to be preserved. -Poodle of doom 02:24, 3 October 2009 (BST)
UDWiki:Administration/Deletion Schedule
I need this page protected, and have the entire guidelines section switched by a simple template call for this page. Makes it easier to keep track when a new schedule is added, by whom, and to use this anywhere else in the wiki. --People's Commissar Hagnat [talk] [wcdz] 21:47, 2 October 2009 (BST)
- One of these days you're going to get over your fetish for templates, Hagnat - or at least this obsession with doing literally everything without so much as a by-your-leave beforehand. I pray that day comes soon. Cyberbob Talk 22:11, 2 October 2009 (BST)
- I guess you wouldnt like to see me repeat this feat with the protection schedule then :P --People's Commissar Hagnat [talk] [wcdz] 22:38, 3 October 2009 (BST)
- I was *this* close to reverting this, it is nothing less than unnecessary tripe. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 02:31, 3 October 2009 (BST)

Protections Scheduling Queue
Protection Scheduling requests should be requested in the same general format as Deletions. Votes will occur in the same general manner, and like deletion scheduling requests will be voted on for two (2) weeks, as judged by the initial datestamp. Valid votes are:
- Yea - Approval of Schedule Request
- Nay - Disapproval of Schedule Request
Note: The archive for Scheduled Protections can be found here.
