Great Suburb Group Massacres: 2011 2010 No. 2 2010 2009 2008

What's going on?

If you've been linked here from somewhere else on the wiki and are curious what's going on, the GSGM is a periodic maintenance where a group of volunteers works together to clear outdated, inactive, or relocated groups from the listings in each suburb. All you need to do is go check the talk page for your group. On it, you should see a friendly request that you list all suburbs in which your group is currently active. You'll have two weeks to reply, after which, if no reply has been received, your group will be removed from all of the suburbs in which it is currently listed. These volunteers only clean up the listing that is on the right side of the suburb page, and not any text in the main part of the suburb page.

If your group has been removed from the listings, you are encouraged to re-add yourself. We try our hardest to reach out to all of the groups whenever we perform this maintenance, and we posted notices about the cleanup in the news sections of every suburb, on the talk pages of every suburb, and on the talk pages of every single listed group. Unfortunately, some groups never see our notices, and our volunteer staff is not large enough to find people that don't check the wiki. As you can imagine, tracking down group members in-game for hundreds of groups (assuming the groups even exist) or registering on and contacting every single group via a message board (assuming they even have them) is simply not feasible with only 5-10 volunteers. All that we can do is contact groups on the wiki and give them time to respond, so if we removed your group and you're still active, we apologize, but we would also advise that you take better care to check your own pages more often in the future.

What To Do for Massacrers

Making Contact

First, you need to set up the suburb for massacring. To do this, copy and paste the below message on to the suburb news section, replacing the word "DATE" for the date:

====DATE====
The [[GSGM|Great Suburb Group Massacre]] has commenced. Check your group's talk page to confirm in which suburbs you are active.--~~~~

Next, on the suburb talk page, put the following code in:

==Great Suburb Group Massacre 2011==
{{GSM2011suburb
|suburb=
|sigposter=~~~~
|sigcontact=~~~
|sigcleared=

|g1=
|c1=
|d1=

|g2=
|c2=
|d2=
}}

In the |suburb= line, put the name of the suburb. |sigposter= and |sigcontact= will fill themselves in. |sigcleared= will be where you put your name after all groups have been contacted and declared active/inactive. The meat of the template is the |g#=, |c#=, |d#= code. You will need one set of these for each group in the suburb. |g#= is the name of the group. |c#= should be timestamped with the date the group was contacted, and |d#= dated with the due date for the group to respond.

Once they've been declared active/inactive, replace the |d#= code with either "Confirmed" or "Removed" (it will get formatted on its own, so don't bold the words or do anything else to them).

Group Talk Pages

Next, go to each group's talk page and post the template. Type {{Activelist}} on a group's talk page. This produces this:

Stop hand.png Group Active? Request.
In order to maintain the wiki as an up to date source of information, groups are occasionally removed from the Suburb pages which they are no longer active in. We would like to know in what suburbs this group is currently active.

Please list the suburb(s) you are currently active in.

Confirm

After two weeks, go back and check. If no response has been given, type {{Inactivelist}}, producing this:

Stop hand.png Group Inactive?
No reply has been recieved as to whether this group is still active. The 14 days have passed and as such the groups link has been removed from suburb listings. If the group is again active please feel free to revert these changes

As a final courtesy add something to the news section of the suburb similar to this.

After weeks with no sightings group have been removed from the suburb.

If a reply has been given, Replace {{Activelist}} with {{Activelist!}} as your code. Do NOT add additional code; edit the code you already posted. It will produce this:

Check-Mark-Reviewed.jpg Group Confirmed.
This group was confirmed active. Thank you for your reply.

Make sure to update the suburb talk page as well since some groups may have responded there instead of the group talk page, or may not even have a group page. When a group has confirmed activity (or not), replace the |d#= variable with Confirmed or Removed (as appropriate).

Guidelines & Reminders

  • Groups need to confirm their activity for each suburb they are listed in by replying with the names of each suburb.
  • All groups listed in a suburb should be included in the template that goes on the suburb's talk page, even if they are listed in multiple suburbs.

CHECKLIST!

This time around we decided to chop Malton into chewable chunks that a single person could deal with all at once, and decided on districts. So that is how the following are sorted. Otherwise, same as before: add your sig and timestamp when all groups in a suburb have been contacted, then another sig and timestamp (plus a strike) when confirmed.
