Project UnWelcome

this might be fun, this might be only parody, but i think this is not the kind of things we want here in the wiki. It was fun while only a joke, now i see one of its members using a link to this page in his signature, the same way people in the Project Welcome do. Either keep it as a joke, or it is time to end this. --hagnat mod 19:08, 12 May 2006 (BST)

  • Keep - I was wondering exactly how long this would take. The U! in my signature is a joke, but if it scares newbies off from talking to me then that's probably a good thing — at the very least it's the fair warning that they currently don't get when I'm confronted with acts of blatant n00bery. • Keep - The point at which this would stop being a joke is if members actually started implementing the policies of harassment detailed on the page. As this does not appear to have happened, nor is it ever likely to, trying to delete this page is premature at best, and authoritarian at worst. Punish people or delete pages for things they actually do, not for things they jokingly state they intend to do. --Jimbo Bob ASS 03:59, 13 May 2006 (BST)

For all those who are voting Keep. I believe this is not the kind of message we want people to have from us, that we support this kind of thing. Thats why i ask this to either be lett as a humorous article (and then no links for it on signatures on whatever), or be erased. --hagnat mod 05:46, 13 May 2006 (BST)
I voted keep simply because I happen to think that it is pretty humorous. And in regards to whether or not "we support this kind of thing," I think it's controversial in the same way that player killing is controversial. It's not against the game or wiki rules, and although many people frown on it, some people might enjoy it (such as yours truly). I don't think that it's appropriate to ask for self-censorship on an obviously tongue-in-cheek humorous concept, or to ask it to be deleted, since it is directly wiki-related. Hence, the keep vote. --Bob Hammero ASS 05:50, 13 May 2006 (BST)

Sidenote - If a page isn't linked closely from anything on the main page, wouldn't it most likely never be seen by the majority of the wiki using folk? Unless you watch the Recent Changes section as often as we all most likely do, most of the wiki is hidden to you. --Kb

Extravaganza/How to blow stuff up so it looks pretty

Moved from Moderation/Speedy Deletions

Criterion 2. Naturally i request a moderator other than Vista to rule on this. --Grim s-Mod 22:20, 11 May 2006 (BST)

As I see it the page is a bit of flavor attached to an ingame event and thus has some relavancy, it is also still under construction. and as such I undeleted it to give them a change to improve on it. there are a lot of pages that only excist for flavor about the game. If the entire Extravaganza deal was attached to a groups page whould that be better? (and grim, rest assured, I know better then to rule on this)--Vista W! 22:25, 11 May 2006 (BST)
Unfortunately the page is not flavour, but is in fact irrelevant excess material detailing the modification of explosives, and is quite likely in violation of the laws of many countries. Furthermore, i fail to see how instructions to modify said explosives is relevant at all to urban dead itself. Flavour about the game is all good and well, but this is just off topic nonsense. And you still edit conflicted me, for which there can only be one possible method of resolution: A Pie throwing Duel. I pick the pies, you pick the location. --Grim s-Mod 22:29, 11 May 2006 (BST)
There can only be one location for pie throwing drama... To the vandal banning talk page!--Vista W! 22:32, 11 May 2006 (BST)
BTW, What they put up there has nothing that isn't in every chemist book. just what colour certain metals burn, I agree that it isn't much at the moment, but they were slowly turning away from just firework modification to more UD centred theme..--Vista W! 22:36, 11 May 2006 (BST)

  • Keep - The Wiki is in no country other than the one where the servers are and therefore legality -in other countries- is not a concern. -Wyn (talk!) 21:40, 12 May 2006 (BST)
  • Keep - Keeping it does no harm, therefore deleting it does no good. Rather, deleting it does harm: the guy who wrote it clearly wants it to exist. You could argue it's taking up space and, therefore, harmful to the server, but there are two problems with that route. First of all, you've got to account for all the wikidrama nonsense that goes around and takes up much, much more space and isn't deleted (see talk pages and such). Second, if space were an issue, history purges would be more frequent (I can't imagine history that old is of much use). --Ron Burgundy 07:30, 13 May 2006 (BST)
  • Keep Cleary I'm for it, it encourages RPing which is the entire point of the game. If every page in this wiki must directly pertain to the game, what the hell is the humerous suggestions page doing. We intend to use the page as a springboard for launching missions into dulston and ridleybank anyhow, it's a way to get people organized that is origional and fun. -PadreRomero 16:45, 13 May 2006 (BST)

The entire theory of the game is to entertain yourself, and since this type of RPing is more fun for some people than any one other thing about this game, why not let them have their fun. So start accepting your general silliness and vote to keep this page, if for no other reason than to retain the silly. Jimbo Morgan 23:39, 14 May 2006 (BST)

If people do not know what kind of reaction pure sodium has with water, I encourage them to google Sodium Party: "Which brings me to a safety warning: Sodium is really rather dangerous. If we had been anywhere within 15 feet of this explosion, it would have sprayed us with molten sodium and sodium hydroxide. Even a tiny amount in the eyes would have been a serious medical emergency. That's why I built a device that let me release it in a very controlled way from a great distance: If you want to do anything even remotely like this, you should take similar precautions. While it's safe to drop a tiny piece, maybe a few millimeters on edge, into a bowl of water, if you are wearing safety glasses, the force of the explosion goes up non-linearly with size. A lot of people have hurt themselves by going to bigger and bigger pieces thinking it's just going to do more of the same. It doesn't: At some point it turns from a fizzle and flame into a real explosion, like a shotgun." If someone actually followed these instructions, they'd probably kill themselves. Reason: a copy of a group page that already exists, and only is used as a template to clutter and, in my opinion, spam the pages in which it is used. IWM_WANTED

Reason - In an earlier vote for deletion involving this group, the majority decided that all sub-pages directly related to a group should be under that group's page in the Groups catagory, to make it clear that they are for that group in particular. This page appears to have been created to circumvent that decision. --Sindai 23:18, 26 April 2006 (BST)

Re You have only striked through your reason, not the vote. Is it still a keep vote here and a delete vote for Imperial War Machine/WANTED? G F J 17:39, 27 April 2006 (BST)

  • Keep - The Vote was to Identify the page as a group POV page. I did so, CLEARLY MARKING IT IN THE NAME OF THE PAGE. The only way one would get to the page is by our page alone. There is no valid reason at all why this page should be altered, or deleted.--Duce Nauks 16:11, 27 April 2006 (BST)
  • Keep - The page is marked correctly and if the group wants to use it instead of Imperial War Machine/WANTED, I have no problem with that. G F J 17:39, 27 April 2006 (BST)
  • Keep Doesn't fit any of the deletion standards, and does not violate civility. No reason for it to be here. Ask them to move it, if they don't and a Mod doesn't overrule it, then you have no choice in the matter. -- Amazing 18:30, 27 April 2006 (BST)

  • Delete If they say so (and they clearly do). But actually the original page, WANTED, was created by the group. M T 16:42, 26 April 2006 (BST) After reading what was said below, I think the Imperial War Machine/WANTED should be kept, and redirect deleted. Furthermore, the content from above case (Deletions#IWM_WANTED) should be merged with Imperial War Machine/WANTED. --Brizth W! M T 23:43, 26 April 2006 (BST) See discussion under Duce Nauks's vote. --Brizth W! M T 17:10, 27 April 2006 (BST)
  • Delete Redirect, Keep Main: - This page was created due to an earlier vote for deletion of WANTED that ended with it being moved to Imperial War Machine/WANTED. It appears that the IWM decided to circumvent the intent of the VoD by ignoring Imperial War Machine/WANTED and moving the information on it to IWM_WANTED. The reasoning behind the earlier vote was that all pages for a specific group should be kept "under" the group's main page. IWM has ignored this reasoning, so this page should be kept and IWM_WANTED should be deleted. I am going to go bring it up for deletion now. --Sindai 23:14, 26 April 2006 (BST)
  • Delete - These were voted as falsified pages, not created authenticly by our group. You may delete these pages, for we care not what happens to them.--Duce Nauks 16:14, 27 April 2006 (BST)
Um, I'm quite sure the WANTED was created by your group, and you edited it, and by checking history of Imperial War Machine/WANTED, we can verify this. Note that it was moved by Novelty on 5th of April. --Brizth W! M T 16:31, 27 April 2006 (BST)
Yes, but the vote was to Delete it, and we complied. It is no longer a Valid Page.--Duce Nauks 16:41, 27 April 2006 (BST)
Well, actually the vote and mod's (Novelty's) decision was to move WANTED to Imperial War Machine/WANTED, which he did. But if you want to keep IWM WANTED, that's ok by me. DHPD is doing it on all their pages. Though personally I would use Imperial War Machine/WANTED as it is your group's subpage. Anyway, I changed my vote. --Brizth W! M T 17:10, 27 April 2006 (BST)

Moderation/Policy Discussion/Amazing

I request that a mod other than myself delete Moderation/Policy Discussion/Amazing. This page is an abuse of the moderation system. REGARDLESS OF THE MERITS of any such proposal, votebanning is completely and utterly inappropriate and the very existence of such a page demonstrates the utter disregard that members of the wiki have for any sort of decorum whatsoever. Like many others, I'm surprised this isn't already up here. The idea of hating the wiki and making a template specifically to state that (instead of, oh, I dunno, leaving) is rediculous. User-aimed Template boxes

Frankly, these are getting pathetic. While they are probably symptomatic of larger problems, I think that in this case treating the symptoms would go a long way to alleviating some of the causes.

In particular, I'm putting the following Template boxes up for deletion (In all cases, I'm also asking for deletion of the talk page as well). Due to the large number, it's probably best for people to vote on each individually. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 06:39, 21 April 2006 (BST)

I think the positive templates should be allowed to stay. Also, the ones simply making statements, and not insulting or attacking the depicted user should stay. So, a blanket "Yes" on a few. I'll put it in the individual boxes too. --Cyberbob240CDF | Arb 07:29, 21 April 2006 (BST)

Two of the templates (Template:AmazingOhNoes and Template:ASSaultOnAmazing) created by ASS are being considered on the arbitration page as evidence, and so I think they need to be left alone for the time being. That said, I'm placing my votes below.--Tehasskickars 08:27, 21 April 2006 (BST)

Deletion takes two weeks anyway, so the point is moot. --Brizth W! M T 08:35, 21 April 2006 (BST)

I am of the opinion that these should not be templates, but that users should simply use the syntax on their pages and give others the option of using it as well. Actual templates should be reserved for things that will have enough use to warrant them as a template (Group Boxes, Arbitrator and Mod Templates, the like). I am for the removal of these templates as templates not for the removal of the information used on the template from people's user pages. As such, please consider this as a "Delete" Vote for each of the templates in this category. -Nubis A.R.S.E. 08:36, 21 April 2006 (BST)

          • You would have to be utterly without a sense of humor to seriously believe that. It's a joke. A JOKE. Funny. Not serious. This sets a hideous precedent for jokes being interpreted as death threats and resulting in the bannage of a user. --Undeadinator 23:20, 23 April 2006 (BST)
            • No, this sets no precendent as there already is a precendent that bans people if making death treaths even when joking. Slavik got banned after putting up a suggestion that called for the death of wiki users and their family, after that the wiki still functioned and morose, immature trolls still got to make not serious unfunny flaming jokes, they only had to limit their humour to not include, "I'm going to knife you in the back, Harhar" and their like. Again as there is already a precedent that prohibits death threats even when made as a joke. this is nothing more then plain old consistantcy. If you don't want to be banned over a joke, don't make one were you call for somebodies death, you'd think it simple, no? And no I don't believe he's serious but, yes, my sense of humour ends at death threads. Call me silly.--Vista W! 23:36, 23 April 2006 (BST)
              • Anybody who can count a request for nuclear attack as a death threat--even as a joke--is out of his fucking mind, if you'll pardon my French. If this already has precedent, it's a bullshit precedent that's philosophically and morally hollow, not to mention against the grain of all common sense. Grow up. --Undeadinator 00:21, 24 April 2006 (BST)
  • Delete - Has no place in wiki. --Brizth W! M T 08:27, 21 April 2006 (BST)
  • Delete What Vist said. Question, how do you flame a wiki when a wiki isn't a person. Who exactly is being attacked there? No one is harmed if a wiki is blown up, its an internet forum. Hardly a threat.--Prosperina 08:30 21 April 2006
  • Except he doesn't want to nuke the wiki...He uses the specific words"its users nuked from orbit.Twice" Which is surely a lot more devastating than 1 user and his family.--Mpaturet 08:38, 21 April 2006 (BST)
    • So why don't you nominate it for deletion?--Vista W! 08:40, 21 April 2006 (BST)
      • Because the wiki is sufficiently clogged up as it is. At the rate it's going this page will soon be like the Arbitration page.--Mpaturet 08:42, 21 April 2006 (BST)
I agree again with Vista, just nominate the thing and get it deleted if you think its a problem that's what this area is for. but on a side note, a user and his family is a lot more personal than the general term users. And how many people do you know with an orbital nuclear missle? It's unrealistic to the point of non-threat. --Prosperina 8:42 21 April 2006 (BST)
Niether is particualarly realistic or threatening, both are insulting, in extremely bad taste and as I said before close to vandalism--Vista W! 09:07, 21 April 2006 (BST)
Not arguing with you on that one, I'm just saying personally I would be a lot more pissed if anyone brought my family into things. The nowiki template seems to apply to me as well, but I guess I just don't get that threated by such things.--Prosperina 9:11 21 April 2006 (BST)
This template is threatening nobody, you humorless tarts. It's clearly in good humor, it's clearly not serious, and it's clearly not in any violation of the Wiki except your arbitrary classification of "good taste". Cracking a joke is vandalism now, Vista? --Undeadinator 23:20, 23 April 2006 (BST)
Ever since slavik was banned for making exactly that kind of joke, Jokes that call for the death of wiki members and their family is indeed borderline vandalism. As it involves only one case the precedent working isn't particular strong, as this is no court of law but a wiki. however it is there non the less. thats why I said borderline as this is not vandal report but deletion there will be no precedent working for any punishment in the future, as there will be no punishment dealt now. If anything this will prohibit further precedent working because if it is deleted it can't get to vandal report, were it might lead to further precedent working. this simply is the lesser of the evils. And now for some advice, you'll make a better case for your point of view if you show any knowledge of the facts and some resonable understanding of them. And refrain from swear words, you won't have to, but you'll be less annoying to those you speak to.--Vista W! 23:53, 23 April 2006 (BST)
Self-righteous, self-masturbatory moralistic preaching gets on my nerves, but you don't hear me complaining, do you? The reasons for banning this template are hollow, if not outright arbitrary. And your argument for deleting this template is laughable: it's "borderline" vandalism, so we should delete it to avoid setting a precedent? Deleting something based on a simple-minded concept of obscenity is ridiculous, and precedent-setting of its own accord. Show some common sense. --Undeadinator 00:21, 24 April 2006 (BST)
you should re-read my comment, I simply refuted some claims you made in error. You can agree with me or not as if it warrents deletions under current rules, my case is that we actually got rid of this sort stuff before, your case is that it is funny. And if you don't like "Self-righteous, self-masturbatory moralistic preaching" why do it yourself with added swearwords? Constitution doesn't apply here. At all. It's an internet forum that's privately owned. And even if it were pking would be considered harassment or you know threats and murder. And by this logic you should be voting delete on the asking Amazing to resign, template where you ask to let him be pked by you. If you're gonna make an arguement at least be consistent. Untrue. This template is not a personal attack: support for a group does not necessarily mean support for all of a group's policies, and nowhere in this template does it call for PKing Amazing. --Undeadinator 23:45, 23 April 2006 (BST)

If I'm not mistaken, this wiki is hosted on a machine in England. The American constitution is irrelevantXoid STFU!
Actually, that point is irrelevant. No international law exists to regulate material based upon where it is hosted. This falls into a legal grey zone. Doesn't matter in either case, because as Prosperina pointed out this Wiki is privately owned. --Undeadinator 23:45, 23 April 2006 (BST)
I find that reasoning spurious. The reason I said the American constitution was irrelevant was due to the fact that if the server was in America, and content on said server was violating thier constitution, I'm pretty sure they could have it taken offline, whether it was privately owned or not. It's a moot point anyway. –Xoid STFU! 16:40, 1 May 2006 (BST)

"If it's old, leave it. If you don't like it, ask us to take it down. If we
disagree, take it to arbitration. If you can't do that, then you better be

Deletion Schedule Requests

Deletion of Image revisions older than 3 days

Many parts of the wiki community use updating images, but of course the previous images are still kept. For particularly large images this can become quite an issue, and if the images are updated daily, it can be up to a month before a mod can freely delete them (or two weeks if a mod gets there early.

Thus, I suggest that we provide a deletion schedule to remove any Image revisions that are older than 3 days. This should provide more than enough notice in the event of vandals uploading images over others, and should (hopefully) reduce the number of large image revisions clogging up the servers. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 11:03, 13 April 2006 (BST)

  • Nay - While I like the idea, I think that three days is a bit too short. If this passes and I vandalize an obscure image, if it's not noticed within three days then it can't be reverted. (Assuming you mods keep up on the deletion of old revisions, that is.) If the time limit was seven days then I would support it. As a side note I would also support dropping the timelimit on unused images to seven days. --RedKnight 07:36, 21 April 2006 (BST)
  • Nay - The concept is sound, but a week seems a tad more reasonable for the reasons RedKnight stated. -– Nubis NWO 11:20, 21 April 2006 (BST)

Deletion Scheduling

Deletion of Image revisions older than 7 days

Many parts of the wiki community use updating images, but of course the previous images are still kept. For particularly large images this can become quite an issue, and if the images are updated daily, it can be up to a month before a mod can freely delete them (or two weeks if a mod gets there early.

Thus, I suggest that we provide a deletion schedule to remove any Image revisions that are older than 7 days. This should provide more than enough notice in the event of vandals uploading images over others, and should (hopefully) reduce the number of large image revisions clogging up the servers. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 14:35, 1 May 2006 (BST)
