Deathwire is the head honcho of DITPS. Figure he's protesting my group's classification. Or something like that. -- Spiderzed 06:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
It's more of a show against the idiocy of the system in general, but yes, the greifers were kinda a catalyst. ~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 07:41, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Being the leader of the group does not give him the right "to classify his group as whatever he wants". His group is pro-survivor (and even categorised as such). It's borderline vandalism as he's basically spreading misinformation on the suburb page. As for the Big Coffin Hunters it's pretty much the same. If I get it right, the group's goal is pking members of the Dulston Alliance which would classify as pking. Both are using the suburb group list as an extend of their roleplaying and own POV, which they shouldn't do. The suburb and it's group list are suppose to be neutral or NPOV, and anyone looking at it from an objective view (like I'm doing as I'm not involved) can see BCH is PKer and DITPS is Pro-Survivor. Tldr: The suburb group list should be taken from a neutral point of view, not from the groups point of view. Unless Í missed something important here, I'm going to fix the list soon. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 10:25, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Or Not. Corn believed firmly that his group was pro survivor. Try arguing with the PK that their actions aren't about promoting better survivors. Hell SFHNAS have been maintaining the only guaranteed EP in Kempsterbank for years. Of course if the only arbies case on this subject hadn't been so badly screwed we'd have a better answer. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:08, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
PK (I assume you mean the knights) are pkers by definition. The reasoning behind it is roleplaying and from their perspective. Corn's was at war with another group. I'm sure there are more gray areas to this, where NPOV is not sufficient to determine a group's nature. But in this case, with these 2 groups BCG and DITPS it's pretty obvious. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 11:24, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Then raise it with them. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:26, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
I will. --Umbrella-White.png(Thad)eous OakleyUmbrella-White.png Talk 11:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
BCH uses PKing as one of their tools against very, very specific targets, but isn't a "Hostile Group" on a suburb level. 9 out of 10 visitors to the NE corner are perfectly safe from us. -- Spiderzed 22:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Sorry that I haven't been able to answer this, because I've been massively ill. Deahwire was almost definitely complaining about how The BCH (A group whose admission requirement is 10 PKs) have been allowed to classify as pro-survivor. In terms of using Philosophe knights as a parallel, that's completely inappropriate, because you don't need to PK to be a member, e.g. Damon Young. And of course, Deathwire was also probably confused by the fact that a system operator forced through the BCHs original changes. Personally, I agree with Thad that neither of them should have the right to classify as whatever they want, and they should be forced to put what they actually are. However, given that Deathwire had previously been informed that it was acceptable by a system operator, I see no reason to give him a vandalism case or anything like that. Either leave them both or move both to the right sections. Of course, if there is a case of any kind (Vandalism, arbies) I won't have anything to do with it, as an involved party.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 18:46, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Hasn't this issue come up quite a few times? My understanding was that it was entirely up to the group themselves how they were listed, and that's a position I'd stand behind. It's definitely not vandalism though, as it's not interfering with anything - if it gets to an edit war then the solution is to arby it and have someone neutral decide what stays where and set a precedent for it, but I'd hope common sense would stop people interfering enough to get that far. Strength is just an accident arising from the weakness of others 18:54, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, my stance has always been that so long as they are consistent and can justify it somehow, it's generally fine. That said, D.I.T.P.S. lists itself as a survivor group on its own pages, which directly contradicts this change, hence why I was concerned. I don't want to speak for BCH, but in the case of the Philosophe Knights, we do, as was said, allow for our members to ascend the ranks without PKing (in fact, our most recent entrant to our highest rank did so, from what I heard). Additionally, the Knights are consistent in their message that they are acting in the best interests of the population, rather than being hostile for the sake of being hostile, and would hold that there is a difference between being a "PKer Group", which they readily admit that they are, and being a "Hostile Group", which is what gets listed on the suburb pages. Plus, there's also the fact that the suburbs where the Knights are listed are the ones where they do act in a very pro-survivor way, working alongside other groups to rebuild and maintain the suburb. So, in all of those regards, the Knights are not really an apt comparison to the current situation, since their listing as a survivor group is justifiable on quite a few different bases. Aichon 19:31, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Anyway, yeah, I'm not planning to pursue this, but I wanted to make sure a local with wiki knowledge was aware of it, since I didn't feel equipped to handle it at the time. Also, that last response was in general to the conversation, not just at you two, since clearly you both already knew most of it. Aichon 19:34, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
"Deahwire was almost definitely complaining about how The BCH (A group whose admission requirement is 10 PKs) have been allowed to classify as pro-survivor. In terms of using Philosophe knights as a parallel, that's completely inappropriate, because you don't need to PK to be a member, e.g. Damon Young" // How does this statement hold up considering the fact that we require our members to punish 2 members of the Ignorant masses (with an appropriate speech beforehand) before they are allowed to become a full member? And seeing as BCH appears to be a group which is solely at war with the Dulston Alliance (excepting the few DA groups which have earned BCH's ceasefire), how does that make them any different than the Umbrella Corporation vs the UBCS or Dragonhead vs Bigger Mortice? Many thanks in advance, and Praise Knowledge. --DTPraise KnowledgePK 22:42, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
The real killer argument aren't the knights. The killer argument is Team Zombie Hardcore. No one has ever bothered to remove those clowns as survivor group from their suburb listings. For years, and despite heavy warfare from heavily metagaming (and wiki-savvy) players and groups against them. -- Spiderzed 23:13, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Your talk page used to break sigs

I believe that It doesn't any more. Turns out that the problem was indeed with your page and not with the signatures, since absolute positioning works fine so long as its parent is either the window or a non-static positioned element. Your scrollbox was statically positioned before, but by giving it position: relative, it lays out the same way, but allows those sigs to work as they do everywhere else on the wiki. I checked in FF and WebKit, and they work fine, and I see no reason why it wouldn't work in IE as well, though you might want to check. ;) Aichon 18:51, 16 October 2010 (BST)

The Slightly Late Third Question of the Aforementioned Series

The government. How many branches, what does each do, and how are their members chosen? --VVV RPMBG 02:17, 17 October 2010 (BST)

Missed this. There are several, depending on your meaning. We have two branches of legislature, the commons and the lords. Commons decides everything and then lords can send it back and forth a couple of times before they have to accept it. There's the cabinet, led by the PM and the senior officials of the leading party. They decide how things are run, etc. Then in terms of judiciary we have a supreme court but they essentially do nothing and have no law-making power. Commons is elected in elections held at the cabinet's discretion up to 5 years apart. Most of the lords are chosen by the PM, 92 were born in to it, and the 26 most senior church officials are also in it. The Cabinet is chosen by the PM, who is the leader of the party with a majority in commons. Individual commons seats are decided by elections in 650 different constituencies. Good enough, or do you want more?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:11, 17 October 2010 (BST)

Questions on higher wiki editing

I've got a little request on my humble quest to learn what I can as a Wiki member.

First of all, how do you add special characters to your signature?

Secondly, I'd like to get more active in the community. How would I achieve this?

And thirdly, anything you can give me on editing pages and adding things like cell spacing, background coloring, special pages (like navigation) and etc. If at all possible drop me a nice heap on Linking pages, a huge problem I have, according to my talk page. --Noted Literature critic, Mead Sheaffer. 05:47, 17 October 2010 (BST)

¿Que es esto? Special characters in a signature? First off, you'll want to create a page titled User:Officer Mead Sheaffer/signature, then fill it with the text you want in your signature (be sure to include a link to your userpage). Once you've made the signature to your liking, you will want to click on the "my preferences" tab, and type into the "nickname" field. If you do this properly, then your name should appear as you formatted it on the /signature page. You can find special characters by typing their alt codes or by copy-pasting them off of somewhere else.
I'm assuming you're already familiar with the basics of creating a link (example link and visible text) based on your current signature, and are more concerned with the page move notices and the giant "Orphan" templates on your talk page. Those are just misguided attempts to clear out Special:Lonelypages, a useful utility page that has been rendered useless because of the "orphan" templates.
There are a few basic ways to get more involved in the wiki community. See the "wiki news" template on the main page? Have you participated in all the votes and disscussions listed on it? If not, then that is a great place to start off. You may also want to consider reading over some of the current cases on the administrative pages and, if you feel so inclined, post your input on the cases on the administrative talk pages. You can also get involved in more hands-on activities, such as writing clever and/or humorous descriptions for location pages.
I'd help you with the tables and whatnot, but I'm afraid I usually just piece my coding together from existing pages. You actually can learn a decent bit by copying some table coding (just look up any nice looking page) and playing with it to see how it works.~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 07:10, 17 October 2010 (BST)
Red's got pretty much everything spot on. If you want to be able to do the code from a page, open the edit tab and find it. It's the best way to learn, imo.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 10:08, 17 October 2010 (BST)

Stub Work

I noticed a while back that we were trying to reduce the number of location stubs. I was wondering if we could do a more organized version of that. Like, literally assigning people to write in histories for a suburb. I've been working on a few, but I'm very intimidated by the massive amount of locations with no description or history information. If you could get back to me on that I'd very much appreciate it.--keepster33 04:14, 24 October 2010 (BST)

We can't force people to do it, but we can encourage them. Someone had a competition a few months ago to see who could write the most full location block histories and descriptions, and it resulted in a lot of work on some locations. Unfortunately, cause some people only cared about winning, it also resulted in a lot of duplicated image spam. Long story short, making fun competitions are always fun and result in a lot of good work, the only problem with the one I'm remembering was it was so short that by 2 weeks, it was over and no one gave a shit (it should have gone for 2 or 3 months and been a long term thing) -- LEMON #1 10:11, 24 October 2010 (BST)
DDR above explained pretty much the issues with it. It's relatively boring, so not many people are inspired to do it. I say crack on if you can, but don't feel too pressured by it. It's been five years since the game was made, I'd wager it'll probably take five or so more before the wiki is complete.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 10:15, 24 October 2010 (BST)

MMMmmmm...bubble tea. Though, at this point, those tapioca "bubbles" have branched out into everything from smoothies to blended coffee drinks. I'm a sucker for them, especially the odd ones. Aichon 07:35, 2 October 2010 (BST)
There isn't much. Media is mainly through the internet, but certain social circles will interact with Japanese media frequently. We get a few US versions of Japanense TV programs. There's some food, but mainly just in specialist places once again. The latter two I have no idea about.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 13:59, 2 October 2010 (BST)
Just as I suspected. Here in the states (at least on the West coast), anime and sushi have very well carved niches; They're both easily their own genres. The difference is probably caused by the varying distance to Japan. --VVV RPMBG 23:57, 2 October 2010 (BST)

We get it decently well in Texas as well, though I'm sure you folks on the west coast have it better. I live in a relatively small town (200,000ish in the immediate area) and we have at least a half dozen sushi places within 10 minutes (though I definitely wouldn't recommend some of them) that I can think of off the top of my head. And you can buy anime at pretty much any video or electronics place these days. Aichon 01:27, 3 October 2010 (BST)

Pic. Maybe you have extensions installed that change its behavior? Or maybe I do? Or maybe Axe is right (he probably is). But if it's broken in Chrome (which it is), then it should be broken in Safari too, since Chrome's rendering engine is WebKit, just like Safari's. Aichon 21:02, 12 September 2010 (BST)
I have no extensions and I've checked on both widescreen and normal screens. :P --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:04, 12 September 2010 (BST)
Axe is right, and widescreen doesn't matter if it's not wide enough, which apparently yours isn't. Once it gets around 12-1300px wide, your page breaks since you have a fluid width for it. Just fix the width of your main container for the page at 1076px and you'll be fine. Otherwise, if users have larger resolutions, it either goes off the top of the page or the divs start to overlap each other. Aichon 21:06, 12 September 2010 (BST)
Done.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:08, 12 September 2010 (BST)

Mine is 1900x1080, but when I shrink the window down to a size approximating yours, I see how it's all supposed to look, which is much different than it did look, since the scrollboxes had all gone in a row, rather than above, below, and to the side. Anyway, the 1076 trick worked (once I fixed it for you :P ). Aichon 21:23, 12 September 2010 (BST)
You know, if I were drunk, I may just VB you for that. ;P Nah, I'll do it the day before the next history purge.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:26, 12 September 2010 (BST)

Ah, but I'll pre-empt it second before with a message saying they are forbidden. You cannot risk it. Hahahahaha!--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:47, 12 September 2010 (BST)
It's his sig all right, just as its Misanthropy's on the main page. Apparently it's an issue with the way that the old ClickInternal code works (no idea if the current ClickInternal breaks with this). If you break the link to the archived news on the front page, you'll see that the extra space goes away, as do the hidden links to Misanthropy's stuff. My best guess for what's happening is that it's displaying the divs with the links in whatever place they would normally display if you didn't have the separate scrollbar, hence why they're growing the page downwards. It's likely the result of using position:absolute with them. Aichon 23:37, 12 September 2010 (BST)
Ah, i see. Is it going to do anything destructive? If not, then it doesn't really bother me.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:40, 12 September 2010 (BST)
I doubt it will cause issues, other than aesthetic and a little bit of usability stuff. Shouldn't be a problem if you're okay with it, I think. I might poke around the ClickInternal code some more to see if it can be made to work with pages like yours, but I doubt it can be, since it depends on that position:absolute to do what it does. Perhaps if your page had a closing div it would work, but that's understandably not an option. Aichon 23:44, 12 September 2010 (BST)

I think a commie would have a more NPOV than the educational system of the country built around the war. I don't care how the modern Brits say the old Brits felt so much as what's included in the typical reminiscence. What reasons did they give for colonial dissatisfaction? How much of the fighting do they say the colonists did compared to their various European allies? How do they sum up the peace settlements and significance of the war? I'm mostly curious about what spin they put on the facts, so I can compare it to what I'm told and spot the differences. --VVV RPMBG 09:26, 18 September 2010 (BST)

Regarding User:Dr Albert Schwan

I was only just recently made aware of the wiki user impersonating me. The same has happened in game as you have seen with similar results. I would not mind were it not for the name similarity which has actually caused people to mistake this user/character for me on several occasions. I believe this to have been the intent behind its creation by the Heathers, a group that bears me ill will due to my publication of their ethically questionable strategies. The artwork and methodology are the same they use in-game that lead to the creation of the Dr. Albert Schwan account and several other impersonations. I was wondering if you can tell me what edits the account made that you had to revert?

Additionally, I would like to clarify that though this account was designed to impersonate me as the one in game has been doing since its creation, I do not have a problem with it existing as long as it treats itself as work of satire, links appropriately, specifies itself as a distinct and separate account, and does not perform actions in my name. As this is unlikely to happen, (I have never seen the Heathers take responsibility for one of their creations and assume this was put on the wiki solely for the purpose of making me have to complain about it to get it removed) I would like to know what steps are needed to treat it as work of impersonation and for me to take action if possible.

--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  05:33, 25 September 2010 (BST)

I had to revert the creation of links directing to the user page, such as "Schwan" and "Dr Schwan". On the topic of what you'd have to do, I already tried to get a sysop consensus on banning, but nobody else paid me any attention. Take it to A/VB and it'll be gone within the day.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 09:42, 25 September 2010 (BST)
Information much appreciated Yonnua. Thank you. I will attempt to talk to it and see if it will cooperate first. The Heathers put a fair bit of creative work into this so I should at least give it a chance to exist. If it keeps trying to usurp my identity and does not distinguish itself as a parody, I will do as you suggest.
--Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  03:11, 26 September 2010 (BST)
I have reached an agreement with my impersonator and will proceed to A/VB if he breaks it. Thank you again for the information. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  03:18, 27 September 2010 (BST)

First mall piñata: Calvert or Treweeke?

Hello there, it's been a couple of years since I last visited the wiki. I have something to ask that only you and perhaps boxy can answer.

Some members of LUE has been active again under the LUEshi's Rangers group, and today they took down Calvert Mall. Not only that, but they turned the mall complex into a piñata. However I got into a disagreement with a member of the group who has been claiming Calvert was the first mall to be turned to a piñata.

In the piñata talk page, I read that Treweeke was the first mall to be put to a piñata. But in the Calvert Mall page, someone from LUEshi's Rangers is claiming Calvert was the first. Could you please weigh in with your opinion on what happened? Thanks. --Aeon17x 15:42, 21 August 2010 (BST)

Ah, thanks for the feedback. From what I hear from LUEshi's Rangers they seem to accept that the piñata of Treweeke is the first or at least happened before, but for some reason they are keen on pressing the issue that their piñata of Calvert was the first documented one, whatever it's worth. --Aeon17x 12:52, 22 August 2010 (BST)
I'd say that there's no telling how many mall pinatas have gone unreported. Zombies break in one corner, ruin everything, but never bother to touch the cades in the other three corners. A survivor repairs and cades the first corner, leaves, and one of the occupying zombies ruins it again. Being completely accidental, no one would be able to claim responsibility (even if there were any groups around). The four corners of cades might never even be noticed in the brief time before someone breaks in. --VVV RPMBG 06:11, 23 August 2010 (BST)

BCH spy investigations

First, it's a truly bad move to put an IP out into the open for everyone to see. I'd recommend you to remove it from the DA forums and subsequent quotes.
For further investigations, you might want to check other IPs with this, that or other whois services.
Looking at the one you have given to the public, the IP belongs to a server of OVH, a French hosting company. Further investigation shows that it's used for a public proxy. While not being 100% sure, I'd rather suspect that Alice and Faulk have coincidentally used the same proxy to access the DA forums. Unless one of the other IPs of either Faulk or Alice happens to be a non-proxy, this shouldn't be sufficient proof, especially when I look at how different not only Faulk's and Gravesend's writing styles are, but also how Alice uses ProfileViewer while Faulk doesn't.
Also note that the same IP adress alone won't be enough for Resens' ZL to list anyone. It's often useful for proving in the first place that alts belong to a single player. But if there isn't proof that those two alts have been within 10 blocks within 24 hours (i.e. screenshots, iwits or dumbwits), it isn't a matter for the ZL. -- Spiderzed 19:19, 31 July 2010 (BST)

Yes, I'm well aware of all of this, and it's largely the conclusion I reached. I've even said I wasn't saying they were zerging. I said if the IP matched with the IP of another member seen co-operating with them, it would look more likely. I never said anything like what you claim I've been saying. I also did all the things you said above. What is your relevance to this discussion whatsoever?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:26, 31 July 2010 (BST)
I've read up the backlog on the DA forums now and seen that you've withdrawn the zerging suspicion and the Monday ultimatum. Seems to be settled then.
As for relevance, I happen to be a zerg hunter and know a bit and another about tracking them down. I don't care about the group politics and the drama that seem to surround the whole incident. I only care about detecting zergs, or about keeping the ZL from being clogged up with false alarms while the actual zergers get away, depending how the investigations turn out. -- Spiderzed 19:51, 31 July 2010 (BST)
Yeah, the BCH forums also have some of it. Just asked how you fit in so that I could know. The main things I was waiting on were a comment from DeWolf and trying to work out where the Ip was coming from. I got the French proxy pretty quickly, but the evasive responses convinced me to get a comment from DeWolf first. As you say, it's mainly resolved, and I was only going to use the Zerg list if there was actually proof of zerging.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 20:05, 31 July 2010 (BST)

Deleting User page:Diana Warren

Yonnua, why did you delete my page? Did I set up something incorrectly? Please let me know. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DianaWarrenUD (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

It's just one of those common things that pop up. We restrict pages about users or characters to existing only in your 'user namespace', which is any page named as a suffix to your username (for example, User:Misanthropy/Characters/Misanthropy is a page in my user namespace). Yonnua took the information on the page you created and moved it to your user page. This left behind a redirect page, which is just an empty page that'll point to the new page that it's been moved to, and it was just this empty redirect page that was deleted. If you want to set up more character pages, you'll just want to start them with User:DianaWarrenUD/ followed by whatever you want it to be named. User:Misanthropy/sig2 23:45, 7 August 2010 (BST)

Help....

Do you have any knowledge on this sort of thing? - Poodle of Doom 23:32, 29 July 2010 (BST)

Ask Aichon, but I think they have to be uploaded to the main server, so that's probably be a job for Kevan, and I find it unlikely he would. There may be a way with more updated wiki tech. As I say, ask aichon, because Mis asked this recently, I just can't recall the answer.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:42, 29 July 2010 (BST)
I never asked it, I just lamented that people didn't have the ones I was using. The fonts aren't uploaded to the wiki, they're based on what you have on your computer. For instance, I don't see Aichon's sig correctly because I don't have the font he uses, and 99% of the wiki couldn't see my old sig due to not having Fiolex Girls in their possession. It's not a site issue, just a personal thing. User:Misanthropy/sig2 00:09, 30 July 2010 (BST)
As Mis said, it's a per user thing, not a wiki thing. There's nothing that can be done. Aichon 01:08, 30 July 2010 (BST)
So,... I don't have the monotype corsiva font on my computer anywhere, at least not to the best of my knowledge,... and yet the font works. I guess I don't understand how it could be based on what I have on my computer,... as apposed to what's on the server. Just out of curiosity, how is your sig supposed to look Aichon? I see the first three letters in grey, and the last two in an orange/red... but no styling to the letters? - Poodle of Doom 01:20, 30 July 2010 (BST)
If you have Office installed, you have Monotype Corsiva. And my sig uses the Cochin font, which looks like this. Also, there are six letters in my name, not five, and that color is maroon. Aichon 02:20, 30 July 2010 (BST)
I guess there are six aren't there,... - Poodle of Doom 03:34, 30 July 2010 (BST)
I want to come back and add that my signiture looks different to you than it does to me... I also woke up this morning, and looked in the mirror,... only to discover that I have really big feet. All mine are widescreen, they look the same as Aichon. Show printscreen, perhaps. It'd be because you have a varied font package or something methinks. -- 05:42, 31 July 2010 (BST)

The arby case between Mis, and Axe. - Poodle of Doom 00:53, 6 July 2010 (BST)
The arby case stemmed from the "+1" war between Axe and Mis, and, to a lesser extent, me. That in turn stems from Signature Race, an age old competition basically involving becoming the most linked user on the wiki. That used to be Axe, but, after he left for ages, Mis added the sysops' names to the welcomenewbie template, giving us each roughly 8000 extra links. Axe Hack and Mis are now in a heated race to beat each other, etc. And the Misconduct case was just a humourous result of that.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 00:55, 6 July 2010 (BST)

Damn...

I want to create a table collapsible. Apparently, the wiki program doesn't understand the following code:

I know why there's a problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. Since UDwiki runs on a very old version of MediaWiki, it doesn't have all the features. Try asking someone liek Aichon or the Rooster. They'll be best for this sort of thing, if it's possible.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 00:37, 28 June 2010 (BST)
I brought this up with Aichon not too long ago. It's a case of Wikipedia, Wikia et al running a far more advanced version of the software than we currently use here. I wanted it for a collabsible WN template. :( User:Misanthropy/sig2 00:38, 28 June 2010 (BST)
While your here Mis... you don't have any way to do it? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 00:39, 28 June 2010 (BST)
You want a collapsible table, I want the html code for making a poll to work here, but we can't get everything...Unless Kevan updates... ----Axe Hack 00:41, 28 June 2010 (BST)
Poodle, Mis just said that he asked me about it (presumably because he didn't know how to do it), and that I told him I didn't think it was possible, so now you're asking him if he knows how to do it? That...doesn't make much sense to me, I have to say. Anyway, the issue is that the only code we have in the CSS that addresses things like this is as follows:
table.collapsed tr.collapsable {
	display: none;
}
In case you can't follow that easily, it's basically just a way of making parts of a table disappear. The problem is that we have no way to toggle it (i.e. they can be disappeared upon creation, but they'll have no way to come back). For that, you need javascript, and we can't use javascript here, nor does the CSS insert the necessary javascript when you use it (which is what I believe the newer wiki software does). Long story short, I don't see how it can be done without changes to the CSS at the very least (which, technically, I suppose could be done since sysops have access to the CSS file and can edit it, I believe). Aichon 01:11, 28 June 2010 (BST)
I missed the part where he said he asked you. Sorry... and could I petition you to edit it, if you're able? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 01:13, 28 June 2010 (BST)
We'd at least need some discussion on the issue first, and then I'd want to consult with Rooster to make sure it's possible and that we're not screwing things up with the code (basically, I'd want any code we were adding to the CSS file to be well vetted). Adding collapsible tables would probably involve use of CSS3 pseudoclasses, which not all browsers support (I'm looking at you, IE), so we'd have to write the CSS carefully so that it gracefully degraded in those cases. And, once again, that's assuming it's possible at all, which I'm not entirely sure of, given that this would by no means be the normal way of doing it. I'd have to do some experimentation. Aichon 01:25, 28 June 2010 (BST)
Perhaps we could hold a petition for Kevan to upgrade again, and in the meantime, hold this particular discussion on said petitions discussion page? If you're able to upgrade the CSS, then we could forgo the upgrade, and if not,... then we'd still be running the petition for the upgrade anyway. Sound fair? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 01:41, 28 June 2010 (BST)
A policy would be the way to go, just like last time this sort of thing happened, but you'd need to identify concrete benefits to upgrading, since we get by just fine for the most part as it is. Also, I think you might misunderstand me a bit here. I'm not talking about upgrading the CSS to a newer version, but rather adding our own unique stuff, which will require a bit of work. I very much so doubt we can just go and copy a "collapsible" class from wikipedia's CSS since their extensions probably parse out the class name and then insert the appropriate javascript on page save, which we don't have the luxury of doing without installing some extensions. Aichon 01:55, 28 June 2010 (BST)
I kind of assumed that was what you meant. All I was getting at is the fact that we could tackle it from two fronts to try to solve the problem.... either way. If I set up the petition, would you proof read it when I'm done to double check the facts and what not? I'm not really good with the whole computer software thing... -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 02:40, 28 June 2010 (BST)
Well, if you want to put it up in your sandbox or something and then ping me on my talk page, I can take a look over it, but if it's going up for discussion or as a policy, everyone, myself included, will comment on it anyway, so all you'd get is me pointing out any issues I see in advance. I'd honestly just suggest going straight to discussion since I'll be commenting on it regardless. Aichon 05:00, 28 June 2010 (BST)
What I was thinking was maybe typing it up, and sending your way via email, if your up for that? Either way is fine with me though. I'll get started. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 05:07, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Yep, you're misreading it. Version 1.9.3, which is what we're running, is MUCH earlier than version 1.16, which is what they're running (note that it's version 1.16, not 1.1.6, that they're running). Our version is about 3 years behind the curve. Plus, they have a load more extensions installed than we do. Aichon 01:25, 28 June 2010 (BST)
I would like it to be known that wikipedia is in fact retarded when it comes to numbers. User:Misanthropy/sig2 01:39, 28 June 2010 (BST)
How do you figure? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 01:42, 28 June 2010 (BST)
Right, 1.16 should be the same as the fraction 116/1000. They're running on the assumption that it is .7 greater that 1.9, which is actually 2.6 - I know that they're using it as a version notation, but if they don't intend to call a version 2.0 yet, when they created the version after 1.9 they should have retroactively named the preceding versions 1.01 - 1.09 to avoid confusion. User:Misanthropy/sig2 01:46, 28 June 2010 (BST)
It's standard numbering convention and has been for decades, if not centuries. Just look at an outline for a large paper (or perhaps a journal?) or any other numbering system that allows for subpoints. It also shouldn't be retroactively renamed, since that'd create issues with version control (VC) systems, links, documentation, etc. Aichon 01:55, 28 June 2010 (BST)
To add some more, it's not a matter of fractions at all, so when you reach 1.10, it doesn't roll over to 2.0, nor should it. If you want a different way to think about it, it's basically like a tree that we're slowly filling out, much the same as we have scientific classification trees for all species. So, just as an American Black Bear is kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora, suborder Caniformia, family Ursidae, a software release might be Version 4, Improvement 3, Update 8, Bug Fix 6 (i.e. 4.3.8.6). Scientific classification uses names, we use numbers. Same idea though, and to someone like me, it doesn't make any more sense to make 1.10 become 2.0 than it does to call a bear a fish. ;) Aichon 02:10, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Just curious about this...

When you take someone to vandal banning,... do you normally run an IP check to see edits coming from other accounts with similar, or the same IP('s)? --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Poodle of doom (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Usually, at least one person does it, yes.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:05, 27 June 2010 (BST)
Sorry about forgetting to sign my post earlier... I shouldn't forget... anyway.... getting back on track,... what do you do for people who have a general IP? Like one you'd find on a network, or LAN? Something you might encounter at a library,... or on AOL for example. How would you go about finding out if there is a difference between a vandal, and say, someone who's visited the same local library, or lives down the street from them? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 23:04, 27 June 2010 (BST)
Well, there would usually be subtle differences for most of those cases. Not for libraries, althoguh I do not believe it's coem up. personally, I'd ask DDR, seeing as he lives in a close proximity to several "would-be" vandals. He probably knows more than me.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:06, 27 June 2010 (BST)
Like you say, Libraries, schools, LANS wouldn't be different. I'm also thinking about those of us who occasionally steal our neighbors Wi-Fi... I would be curious to know how one would decypher such a thing... -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 23:15, 27 June 2010 (BST)
Generally, if there's an issue like that, the effected party emails a sysop, and it's dealt with pretty quickly. Can't say I ever recall it occuring though. --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:16, 27 June 2010 (BST)
How would someone be able to prove that though? If I were to log onto this account, via a library,... and vandalised something,... you could think I was some other vandal,.... and there would be no way for me to actually prove otherwise... -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 23:27, 27 June 2010 (BST)
If you leave your account logged on in a public place, that's your own fault really. Just make sure you never say to stay logged on, and if you have done it, change your password as soon as possible. Ultimately, if your account is taken over by a serial vandal, there's nothing we can do but ban the old account, you get a new one, and we set up redirects to your new account. However, if it looks like you've done it on purpose (e.g. vandalism targetted at people you don't like, it taking place suspiciously soon after this conversation) then we have the common sense to deal with it.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:32, 27 June 2010 (BST)
I didn't say anything about leaving my account logged on. What I said was if I used a public space, and vandalised something, and you did an IP lookup, saw that it was from a former career vandal, I could be perma banned based on that,.... even though I'm actually not the career vandal. See? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 23:36, 27 June 2010 (BST)
It would be dealt with case by case in that instance. The chances of stumbling across a library where a career vandal had recently (checkuser logs aren't permanent) caused major vandalism would be phenomenally low. My advice, don't vandalise the wiki. Then you don't run the risk.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:39, 27 June 2010 (BST)

Just to add my 2<insert local currency here>, in the case of something like AOL or an ISP using a bank of addresses for everyone (which is increasingly becoming less common to see, and is only really the norm with dial-up any more), we'd see multiple IP addresses for the same person since they would have gotten different addresses each time they signed on, meaning that it'd be pretty obvious what was going on. It's then possible to check the ownership of the IP addresses, as well as their locality, to see if they then come from a specific region. If it's a legitimate ISP, those IP addresses will all map to the same region, but if they're using proxies, the IPs will likely come from all over.

As for libraries and other places of public access, as Yon said, the odds are phenomenally low, and vandals generally have a method to their madness that gives us an easy confirmation. If we see the two accounts acting in what could be considered a concerted fashion (e.g. to give something like a case we've seen before, Account A is in a group, while Vandal Account B, which shares an IP address with A, is vandalizing the pages of other groups in A's group's suburb,), it's pretty obvious what's what. 99 times out of 100 in this age of broadband, they're the same user anyway if they have the same IP. I can't actually recall the last time I saw two legitimately different people with the same IP, whether here, on forums where I have had admin access over the years, or elsewhere. Aichon 00:40, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Hmm. It's a tough game answering your questions because it really depends on the context, the short answers are; if someone gets taken to vandal banning he's IP checked yes, but only if the account is suspicious or new, or its their first infraction, but 95% of the time if they are a wiki regular like you or I or Yonnua people won't bother.

When it comes to IP address sharing, generally if two accounts come up as the same IP under Checkuser, we are more or less inclined to assume they are run by the same person, or at least two people in the same place (ie. the account/s aren't secure). If the IP's aren't the exact same area but there is enough evidence to support they are the same, then seeing if the IP's are in similar areas can help. Example is here where I put Jack Heins up for being a suspected alt of permabanned griefer "anonsantlerville" and with only IP evidence of same provider/location it was enough evidence. All the past members of the BBK have a laundry list of retarded IP/meapuppeting related cases against their name, since (I think) they were one of the largest IRL-based groups of the last few years, 90% of the 50 members (me included) lived within 10 km's of each other. Some of the worst involved Shakey60, Buzz Killington, and when J3D was a sysop and got caught using the same IP as Nallan on an occasion. If you want, I can give some examples but it won't prove much. Really, all in all the sysops just do what they can with the evidence given to them, IP checks can be used as solid evidence and usually are, but we are aware of its limitations and do our best to compensate when it seems necessary. -- 04:59, 28 June 2010 (BST)
The only reason why I ask is because I was thinking that perhaps we could have some sort of discussion on adopting a policy of not weighting as much in situations where there is a preponderance of other evidence, simply because of the potiential for it to be explained away. But it really doesn't seem necessary. Thanks for the answers gentlmen. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 05:12, 28 June 2010 (BST)
There is a rotten irony in a policy which is supposed to encourage us to make the right choices based on evidence by disregarding the only quantitative evidence we mostly ever have. Either way, no probs. -- 09:12, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Not really much point asking him since it's so old he'd only find out by doing something you can do yourself: Look at "what links here". It's a generic sentence that was meant to be reproduced as a NB for search odd data collation, back when a group of people took it upon themselves to document the search odds of items in Malton. It's practically useless and could easily be deleted if someone just copied and pasted the text in the template over its calls on the Search Data pages instead of this template -- 04:24, 23 June 2010 (BST)

RR doesn't zerg, and they even maintain DNR lists for zergs they've confirmed. Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 02:02, 13 June 2010 (BST)
I laugh at you. One of their members operating in Millen Hills is zerg listed, we've spotted them reviving zergs, and when we asked them not to, they point-blank refused. User:Misanthropy/sig2 02:12, 13 June 2010 (BST)
If they revive zergs, it's by accident. I have an alt in RR, and we keep a list of known zergs that we add to our contacts list and refuse to revive. You should be warned that a lot of people are adding tags and committing crimes to make us look bad; we get anti-group graffiti with a "from RR" tag on it all around Houldenbank, and I've been killed too many times by "RR" members.
Have you gone to the RR forums and reported this? Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 02:49, 13 June 2010 (BST)
Yes. I was told in no uncertain terms that RR policy is to give "unbiased" revives, regardless of zerging. When I and other pressed the issue, RR clammed up and refused to budge. If you're in RR, you can find a good deal of it in the Millen Hills Status Report thread (even if you aren't a member it's a public thread). Both RDD and With Blackjack And Hookers were involved in questioning. You might also note extensive the "I know you are, what am I" defense. User:Misanthropy/sig2 02:54, 13 June 2010 (BST)
this? I see our leaders saying that we don't condone zerging and keep our own DNR lists for the matter, and that the person who is making the request is acting like a prick. RR fights zergers when they find them, and DNR list them when we have evidence, but they also hate rudeness. You could probably go on their forums and ask them not to revive suburb-wide known RRF death cultists in an asenine tone and get told off for it; now, they wouldn't go and revive the RRF cultists, but they'd sure give you an earful. Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 03:08, 13 June 2010 (BST)
Odd, because I'm seeing senior members and your group's leader both deciding that it's better to go to war with PKer groups than to just not revive zergs, as well as moving discussion to private sections (a point suggested by a zerg), and being told to leave when links are provided to resenz. Also several posts defending zerg revives. You might note Skull Grin and Saint Gambi offering help at first before turning hostile after continued spin and refusal, which makes sense, given their involvement with the Zerg Liste. User:Misanthropy/sig2 03:33, 13 June 2010 (BST)
You raise valid points. On one hand, I've seen tons of zergers get blacklisted by our group, and even been a part of the movement. On the other hand, the default open revive policy we extend does leave an opening for zergers to take advantage of our generosity. I still object to the notion that RR zergs or supports zerging, but I do acknowledge that we don't explicitly ban it unless it inconveniences us. Perhaps an accurate description would be that they are apathetic towards it? I personally hate zergs, but not being an RR leader, all I can do is offer the people fighting the zergs a free revive.
RR's mission is to provide revives for everyone as much as possible. While I admit that we could be doing more to fight zerging, I really don't think it's accurate to say we actively support it. As for zerging members, I reiterate that many people take our tags without permission. Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 03:50, 13 June 2010 (BST)
Except that your zerging member has "Senior Member" status on the forum, which obviously isn't simply a case of mistaken identity or false tagging. User:Misanthropy/sig2 19:42, 13 June 2010 (BST)

Two screenshots of him and an alt, both dead, in buildings on opposite ends of a suburb, with no timestamp or data proving they've been taken at the same time, and no evidence of the alts interacting at all. It seems much more likely to me that the list entry comes from the pissing contest the two groups were having then concrete zerging proof.
I don't know about your standards Mis, but that's not good enough proof for me. Heck, I've even had two alts within 8 blocks once or twice when I've been running long distances without checking the map too closely. Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 22:08, 13 June 2010 (BST)
I trust the judgement of the Resenz team, especially The Huntsman, who informed me of the listing. I also find it suspect that when this was pointed out to Gaucho he simply responded by accusing everyone opposed to him of zerging, rather than even attempting to clear his name or sort out any possible mishap. If RR were in any way opposed to zerging they'd have at least got him to clear his listing, at the very least. User:Misanthropy/sig2 22:11, 13 June 2010 (BST)
<----------

I don't think they care; they have this big thing about being above politics. They don't care about PK lists or Zerg lists or DNR lists, they revive everyone who they don't already have precident to believe will prevent them from reviving others. No, you editted Ross' comment, despite him making it clear he didn't want it to be editted.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:07, 10 May 2010 (BST)
And thus being a bad faith edit? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 00:18, 11 May 2010 (BST)
No, you were trying to improve the wiki, so not bad faith. Read up on it sometime. Besides, I think you're right, Poodle, I back up correct spelling on the main page even if it was a light-hearted joke. -- 00:43, 11 May 2010 (BST)
I'm with you DDR.... I was trying to coax Younnau into admiting a blunder. You see, correction of spelling would typically be a good faith edit. I'm well aware of that. Especially so on the front page, I would imagine. Between Ross insisting on the blunder after people pointed it out, and tried to correct it,... and Yonnua reverting my "Good Faith" edit back,... I'd suppose one could imply misconduct/vandalism/[other mischevious implication here]... not that I would. I'm just civily trying to coax him into letting me have it my way. -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 02:09, 11 May 2010 (BST)
Allow me to cite the case that led me to the revert, as it showed that good faith edits of others' comments was still unacceptable. As a point of personal interest, it was DDR who brought the case. ;) --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 08:28, 11 May 2010 (BST)
There are plenty cases just like that but Ross' entry wasn't a 'comment', nor was it a statement on behalf of himself. It was a statement on behalf of the entire wiki, to everyone who looks at the main page. If people are likely to assume it's a retarded spelling mistake, it's hardly the way we all want people to see us. And just as much so, if it's a weird little in joke ;D -- 09:00, 11 May 2010 (BST)

What the fuck happened you obviously didn't vote enough times. User:Misanthropy/sig2 22:12, 7 May 2010 (BST)

No matter what happens Brown can't remain PM in this state. He'll probably have to hand it over to Milliband or someone of his generation, and give Clegg quite a lot of ground - however, I can easily see Labour offering the Lib Dems a lot more of what they're after than the Tories will. Ultimately, it'll boil down to a) Lib Dems' actual voter numbers, as opposed to seats; and b) how much back-pedalling Cameron's willing to do to get a majority, which in all honesty, I doubt will be much. He'll be relying on the UUP, who didn't make as good a showing as I expected (I figured they'd gain all the ground the DUP lost, but they only lost one seat, not the two or three I expected, and they lost that to a centre-leftist). Basically, unless Labour give the Lib Dems the voting referendum they're after, you can look forward to a short government that achieves nothing, Brown and Cameron ousted before the next general election for a younger and an older face respectively, and a lot of reliance on back-bench MPs to swing things. Fun times. User:Misanthropy/sig2 22:20, 7 May 2010 (BST)

I'm not too fond of Labour myself but that's mainly thanks to Mr.Brown, of course the Conservatives on the other hand are Eurosceptic as can be which is a cardinal sin in itself. Still, Lab/Lib can't reach a majority if I got the results right, so how can they form a minority coaltion?--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:27, 7 May 2010 (BST)

Of course, the district system you guys have is a joke in itself, and whatever happens reforming that system is probably the most important priority during the first coalition formings. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:33, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Oh, no, they can, just not an overall majority. By aligning their vote on things, they'll outnumber the Tories, and with the, what, 29 small-party seats to pick and choose individual allies from, they'd be grand if they did. Clegg is essentially kingmaker here, he's got his party in the best situation they've ever been in. User:Misanthropy/sig2 22:30, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Right, I'll repeat it here as well. My assumption was a Lib-Lab with a SNP alliance, but now the DUP have just said they're open to working with labour, and that would also be an abstention.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:31, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Oh, okay thanks for that. And Yeah, but it's ridiculous the Lib's actually lost seats after a great campaign and an overall increase in popular vote. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:33, 7 May 2010 (BST)
DUP siding with Labour? I have in fact seen it all. Also yes, the popular vote needs to count more. I don't see why the don't model it on the system used to vote for MLAs in Stormont here. User:Misanthropy/sig2 22:43, 7 May 2010 (BST)
I reckon they'll probably side with the tories, but they said they're open to a deal with labour. On electoral reform, STV is probably the best, because it lets you rank your candidates, meaning that smaller parties like Green will get more support, but smaller parties like the BNP won't. The flaw with your standard PR is that it gives all small parties a larger vote.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:45, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Why not direct and total democracy? Seats divided by total nation percentage. How many votes are lost by the current system. Thousands, you can pretty much rip your vote to pieces if you live in one of traditional blue or red colored districts. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:49, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Pure proportional representation (what you're describing) has a tendancy to give radical marginal parties a larger percentage of the vote. In turn, politicians then pander to the radicals for extra support in hung parliaments (very frequent with PR), meaning that the radicals get much more support. It's the principal that gave Hitler control of Germany in the 30s. Similarly, this was overcome when West Germany was established by adding in a 5% cap - if a party had less than 5% of the vote, they recieved on seats. However, if we get in to that, we begin subverting democracy. Which is why I prefer Single transferrable vote.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:54, 7 May 2010 (BST)
True true, but that's because you Brits are used to a 2 party system. PR would pretty much indeed guarantee hung parliaments, but PR and coalition governments are well established in continental Europe, but it would indeed be a too radical departure from the current system you have. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:58, 7 May 2010 (BST)
Yeah, partly because now that we've had this for so long, the marginal parties only have a few policies on certain areas, because they don't think they'll get in. If every party turned up with bursting manifestos by next week, pure PR would be more reasonable, but I definitely wouldn't agree with it without a STV system, or some form of hurdle.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:00, 7 May 2010 (BST)
And about right-wing radicals, maybe you have heard of Geert Wilders, it's true that they can gain allot of seats this way but experience tells us never enough and they usually lock themselves out of any real governmental influence with their extreme stands. I can't name a single EU country where far right has any saying whatsoever that is. (Part from Italy, but Italy is an absolute joke in the democratical/political sense) --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 23:03, 7 May 2010 (BST)
I'm just worried that Britain is facing an economic crisis, political instability, the introduction of PR and the end of a war all at once, all of which were contributing factors to the devastation of Germany in 1933.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 23:05, 7 May 2010 (BST)

Its quite difficult to argue that a system is representative when a party that gets 25% of the vote gets 10% of the seats. Plus as recent vandal banning shows, the best way to convince people that far right policies are fail is to let people tell us why they think they're great. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 22:54, 7 May 2010 (BST)

Given that the deletion discussion process will end in less than 7 days, and that it doesn't look favourable, I don't think that an arbie would end in time before the page vanishes anyway from mainspace. (I have been considering doing so myself, and the timing is my sole reason against having done so.) --Spiderzed 21:12, 18 April 2010 (BST)
On that note, could you both stop editting it until the deletion request is over? Therefore getting rid of the need for arbitration? I think that would probably be the best solution. As SZ noted, I see no reason to have an arbitration case over a page which will either be gone or in your user space by the time an arbitrator is picked.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Whittenside Fort description overhaul

Hi, I just noticed that you do edits about the Whittenside area. I tried to get in touch with Schwan (who does most of the survivor-centric edits for the area), but haven't been lucky.
Either way, to cut down on the preliminary chit-chat, I've written up a new draft for the fort description on the Whittenside Suburb Main Page, as I'm neither happy with the old survivor-POV version, nor with the current zombie-POV description which I've myself written in a particularly nasty mood upon seeing the old description.
What are your thoughts on this as a local survivor player? Is the draft good and balanced as it is? --Spiderzed 20:17, 16 April 2010 (BST)

Arbitrator

Hello, I hope I'm allowed to post this here. I would like the page Battle of Krinks to have a neutral arbitrator. That means; someone who rewrites the article NPOV. The WWSIS has also agreed on this. I would like to ask if you're able and willing to do this. Thanks in advance, --Cornholioo 9:21, 25 March 2010.

You know, you have an arbitration case up about this exact thing. You COULD just ignore all the trolling and rubbish and just do it that way... -- 09:43, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Then again, that's probably just what you mean. Hoping so anyway. nvm. -- 09:46, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
No, I was pressing a case against someone in the Philosophe Knights for editing the Battle of Krinks page. Then someone else completely edited that page and that was alright. Right now someone in the Philsophe Knights is pretting a case against me about the same page, so why can't I ask Yonnua Koponen to write the article NPOV in the meantime? I have also asked for someone to do that, but that was deleted. Oh, and the case you're talking about isn't about who is going to write this article NPOV. It's about an edit someone doesn't agree with. --Cornholioo 10:59, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
It's all well and good to tell Yonnua to write an NPOV version of that article, but then what? You can't replace Battle of Krinks with it because it's been protected due to the arbitration cases. You would have to go through arbitration anyway to force your new NPOV version over Iscariot's versions etc. So in the end you'd have to go through arbitration unless by some amazing coincidence, no one complained about the new NPOV article. So you might as well just get it done now with Yonnua as official arbitrator. -- 11:41, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
The NSU complained. And is the article locked for everyone? I thought just for Iscariot and me... Oh and I accepted Yonnua as arbitrator, but Iscariot didn't. --Cornholioo 13:14, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
I meant in a new case, a case to wash the others away as null cases since the end product of the page will be fundamentally and inherently different. And yes. The page has been protected via the wiki software so no one can edit it except for sysops. -- 12:23, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
DDR has got it pretty much bang on. And by pretty much, I mean he has. The only was a new version of the page can really go through is if it's done on the arbitration page. Hence, the case you've got with Iscariot, or a new case is your best bet. I'd personally say the case with Iscariot, to avoid excess drama from another arbies case.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:01, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
So you mean first make a new page, and then post it on the arbitration page? If yes, could you make this page then? Iscariot probably doesn't agree, but now it's his page out there which I don't agree to either. --Cornholioo 1:57, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
No, just carry on with the case against iscariot, and request that the page is made NPOV by an uninvolved party. Whether you specify who you want to do it is up to you, but it's likely that the arbitrator will either choose who does it, or do it themselves.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! The art of the Demerge

Demerging pages in concept is simple; first, you divert as many incoming links as possible, then transfer the information to the individual pages. Of course, this is all pretty obvious, and not what you were looking for.

Anyways, I try to follow a process when doing this:

  1. Open the page you want to demerge.
  2. Open another tab to the "what links here" page. This will be your main work page.
  3. Type the page name in the "find" field (ctrl+f) and go down the links list, finding and removing any incoming links.
    • Example: you find a link to Apple School. Shorten it to Apple School
    • Be careful when shortening; if the page's name is Apple School and you reduce it to Apple School, you'll create a red link or disambiguation link- it must be named Apple School. This is mainly a problem for multi-location names, coordinate locations, and those with "St/St." in them. If you are in doubt, just drop the "Suburb Schools#" piece.
    • Some links are written with underscores (like_this) instead of spaces. If a location is still showing up on the "what links here" list after de-linking, try replacing some of the spaces in your find field with underscores.
  4. there is not much you can do about user page or protected pages. If it's a matter of redirecting a link to an individual location then that's fine, but links referencing the page's creation/existence/deletion are best left alone or unlinked (In these cases I'll either leave it as a red link or replace the brackets with bold text).

Once you have corrected all redirects and links, it is time to move onto the actual demerge.

  1. Click on one of the locations on the "What links here list".
  2. Copy the locationblock and information about the building from the merged page to the individual.
  3. Replace {{Locationblockmerge| with:
    {{Locationblock|
    location_type=Locationtypehere|
  4. Add a lv. 3 header (===header===) for Description, History, Barricade Plan, and Current Events if necessary.
  5. Put the following categories on the bottom of the page (don't use the stub template if the page is somehow acceptable):
    <br style="clear: both" />
    ----
    locations-stub

  6. Tidy up any leftover junk and move onto the next location.
  7. Once you are done, the "what links here" page should only have a few User: or administrative pages left, if anything. Put the merged location page and any extraneous redirects up on A/SD and move on.

While most people aim at taking these on suburb by suburb, I've found that demerging by location type involves fewer variables. I recommend you find or create a page (like I did here) to store some of the common coding, as this can get extremely repetitive.

Good luck! You'll need it. --~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 23:08, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Plenty active, thanks

Hi Yonnua Koponen. Sorry to clutter your discussion page. Just dropping a line to confirm (in response to your note on our group page in January) that we are indeed active. I can personally confirm that all our members are active in Ruddlebank, Spicer Hills, Old Arkham, Lockettside, and Lamport Hills - if that's where you were referring to. I'm not in contact with our branch in Starlington and Pegton very much though, so not sure about there. Cheers.

op

My last response to your bid question was poor and unjustified, so I'm coming back to explain further (and actually change my answer). After seeing what you have been doing since you asked me, I have really enjoyed watching you work on the wiki and you've satisfied my opinion of an ideal candidate; the difference between now and before being that you've become much more headstrong and have been a lot more perceptive when it comes to dealing with users and situations. Rather than just following someone else's stride, you've taken your own. Even when I don't agree with your actions sometimes, they haven't yet disappointed me with an outcome I find unsatisfactory towards the wiki's wellbeing. I am also hoping that the reason you didn't actually run at the end of last month was because of what I said. -- 03:31, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Old Suburb News

I noticed that you were archiving some of the old news for the suburbs, and I was curious about something. The instructions say that news older than one month should be archived, but you were archiving news that was simply from the previous month, yet only two weeks old. Am I misinterpreting or misunderstanding the instructions, or is there some other set of guidelines governing these things that I'm not aware of? I'm simply looking for clarification for my own future reference, and am not interested in wiki-lawyering and the like. Aichon 17:46, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

You couldn't have picked a worse issue to try and resolve for your sysop-cred. You might be thinking that the most cred is to be found in the toughest conflicts, but honestly; there is no cred to be found in anything that involves Iscariot. Cyberbob  Talk  04:49, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Imo the difference is actually dealing with the toughest conflicts, rather than inflaming it passively on Iscariot's talk page and then believing every word he says before literally passing the entire issue onto Boxy. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 08:39, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Funnily, I came here to say a similar thing. You see what you've started? All because you are too impressionable to make your own opinion? We need sysops that can formulate their own opinions based off the evidence, not just what one person throws at them. You didn't even check the entire situation yourself, you just walked over to Boxy's talk and made it his own problem without you even reading all the relevant pages to make your own opinion, and therefore seeing if what you were doing was right. Start working on being more perceptive. --User:DanceDanceRevolution/sigcode-- 02:05, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Since you're being all seven years old with the accusations, I'll point out now that Boxy actually started it. At no point have I ever requested a de-escalation, and rather than checking all of A/VD and making all necessary de-escalation in an objective manner Boxy has twice now targeted me in a petty manner and he knew full well I'd make an issue of this. Tell me how this targeted treatment is consistent with the good conduct of a responsible sysop? You're going to vote against Cyberbob's re-evaluation for drama causing, how is this any different? There's blame to be assigned here, and it should not be to this kid's doorstep, it should be to Boxy's.
Mind you, I did tell him nothing would get changed as he can't admit he's wrong, the kid does need to learn the lesson from this that I'm always right. -- User:Iscariot/Signature 02:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
This farce started before he descalated you. --User:DanceDanceRevolution/sigcode-- 02:15, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Incorrect, I was happy to leave the previous version intact, this all kicked off because Boxy forged it and not one of you changed it back. -- User:Iscariot/Signature 02:20, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Yep, no one thinks Boxy is in the wrong bar you. Power of the people. Though sometimes I forget you are the people. --User:DanceDanceRevolution/sigcode-- 02:25, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
And I meant the newest descalation. --User:DanceDanceRevolution/sigcode-- 02:26, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Again, Boxy, no other sysop jumped to doing mine, they were happy enough to understand that I understood that I was the only one that could be harmed and knowing this still didn't want one. He did it to cause drama. -- User:Iscariot/Signature 02:31, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Meh, fair enough. I still dislike the whole add on shindig. I find it unfair that having an updated system or using firefox can make you far more effective. Plus, the DSS is FAR superior to a forum.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 20:00, 13 October 2009 (BST)

I'll a gree with the DEMON statement 'cause I don't like add ons, or the DEM so it's a double whammy for me, but best idea ever? sweet! but seriously - i'm having a hard time getting any input that actually helps improve the idea. should i just post it? --User:Jack13/sig 15:01, 15 October 2009 (BST)

Yes, I feel the same way about orange pages. Not that there are that many of them. So, how's the orphan quest getting along?--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 22:00, 7 October 2009 (BST)
You could always make this page orange. As for the orphans there were 1500+. Now? [4] Why not try finding one of them a home? --User:Rosslessness/Sig 22:03, 7 October 2009 (BST)
There are now 98.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 22:05, 7 October 2009 (BST)

Hmm, those subpages of The Dead are quite irritating. because they obviously can't just be linked in to the talk, because of protections. damn.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 22:13, 7 October 2009 (BST)
Just ask for them to be added to the talk page on protections. And link them in your request. That way even if they aren't added, they'll be linked to protections. --User:Rosslessness/Sig 22:46, 7 October 2009 (BST)
Worked it down to 88.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 07:24, 8 October 2009 (BST)

Suburb Patrol

we are commonly active in the south central 6 suburbs, and want to expand our reach and presence. Somewhat in the hopes of recruiting new members. We often scout as far as Tapton and kempsterbank, running 2-3 day missions, while maintian group safehouses in other suburbs as fall back and resuply points. is this(being listed in these suburbs) unreasonable? or considered poor practice/unethical? please respond on my talk page. you're input will be apreciated, and gladly accepted. we try our best not to ipmose on other groups, unless it extends roleplay. look forward to your response --User:Jack13/sig 17:12, 8 October 2009 (BST)

ack... wiki skills are rusty.
what I'll do is retract the northern most 3 suburbs, untill maybe teh day comes that our group numbers grow. although we often have members present in thouse suburbs, we are not "active" in the same sense that we are constantly interacting with other survivors.
more often it's simply scouting, or fire missions on group enemies. We despise the practices carried by the DEM and parttook gleefully in the The Uprising.
Thanks for the head-check, and make sure you stay in touch. also, very nice user page! --User:Jack13/sig 17:12, 8 October 2009 (BST)
at least we hope we're contributing to the greater good. infact that's why we have issues with the DEM in the first place. most of us feel they violate the alt policey in the rules, and that they damage the culture of urbandead in a number of ways, like imposing authority, and overclaiming territory. pop by our forums anytime, or if you're in the south feel free to say hi.
We've been batting around the idea of a Southern Alliance, a sort of continuation on the Malton Uprising. and yes, that is the one i ment hahahaha. banding together all the southern groups opposed to the DEM and the practice of Bounty hunting. But, from experience, it might not be worth the effort. --User:Jack13/sig 20:03, 8 October 2009 (BST)
I'm familiar with Dulston, and i've made a number of trips up there. Many of our missions could be considered "long rang", and although our home is in the south, it's not uncommon for members to spend extended periods of 2-3 in the far north. --User:Jack13/sig 20:20, 8 October 2009 (BST)

You're much the same actually, just so happens we agree with you alot more of the time, and your intentions are in more noble places. --User:DanceDanceRevolution/sigcode-- 13:41, 26 September 2009 (BST)
Indeed. Each use precedent and force to further their own opinions, but Cyberbob has the best interests of the wiki at heart, whereas Iscariot just wants power.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 13:43, 26 September 2009 (BST)

Yonnua, you are absolutely right. I looked at the history and mistakenly believed you had switched the two buildings on the map. This was due to my inexperience in all things wiki related, but was made in good faith, while enthusiastically trying to fix mistakes that I see on suburb maps. I hope you can accept my public apology. --FLZombie 02:39, 13 September 2009 (BST)

Dead Bunnies Controversy

Thanks

Thanks for your support on the "AnonSantlerville" page. It's not a Dribbling Beaver and the Rabbits have zero proof to support their "theory". They just throw around accusations wildly. Strange because that's what they accused us of, when we actually had them dead to rights on their zerging. Anyway, I think you are probably right on your guess as to that person's identity. There's no point in talking to them though. --Calista griffin 20:28, 18 August 2009 (BST)

Calista, several members can corroborate that the user in question at the time of attack was Jack Heins. This leaves 2 alternatives: a)He took the screen himself or b)It was posted in the Beaver's forum, in which case the it was another beaver. --DTangent 09:08, 19 August 2009 (BST)

Sherlock

I'd like to know what amazing detective work led you to thinking "AnonSantlerville" was me. Please look at my contribution history if you are unsure why someone trolling the Dead Bunnies would make an inflammatory comment on my user talk. --DTangent 09:08, 19 August 2009 (BST)

Because Wanyao didn't archive it

Well, even if it isn't considered voting, then people can still meatpuppet it.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 21:23, 21 July 2009 (BST)

Well, there are two things wrong with that idea. First, if a bunch of users that no one has heard from suddenly come in a weigh in on a user, then it will be obvious. Second, since it is not a vote and merely a vouching system, the crats are the ones who hold the power of the nomination. They can look at the users who vote, and if they find a bunch of meatpuppets or socks, then they will take what they say with a grain of salt. Meatpuppetry is pretty obvious, in most cases. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 21:28, 21 July 2009 (BST)
Yes, but if it's the crats deciding, isn't the problem of self-policing still prevelant?--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 22:12, 21 July 2009 (BST)
They are the highest of the trusted users. They are nominated by the people and should have the people's best interests at heart. If they don't, then around the next crat review, they will get rotated out. Simple enough. In the meantime, you still have misconduct. Re-evaluations simply gives the community another tool for keeping everything working smoothly. --User:Akule/sig 22:18, 21 July 2009 (BST)
Fair enough, though I still don't know wether they'd be completely impartial. Sure, they are highly trusted users, but they have friends, and I'm sure that they'd be willing to protect them. Some crats, not all, by any means, and almost definitely not the ones we have now. --User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 22:29, 21 July 2009 (BST)
Fortunately, we have miscounduct and arbitration as ways to deal with that until the next round of crat vouching. --User:Akule/sig 22:32, 21 July 2009 (BST)

You still need to archive the entire month, regardless of what is says, because no further content is going to be added.--User:Axe27/Sig 17:50, 14 July 2009 (BST)
Yeah, sorry, I responded on your talk.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature 17:51, 14 July 2009 (BST)

Promotion Bid - Cyberbob

There is one more little thing I'd like to address regarding my bid (our conversation there is taking up enough space as is). Your comment here makes me think that either you don't understand what I was saying or I wasn't being clear enough; basically what I mean is that the sort of behaviour you're upset with simply would not happen if I was a sysop. As I said, when you are a sysop there is a certain implicit pressre to take admin pages seriously even if you aren't performing an official sysop duty. You can't be misconducted, but you do still kind of feel like it's a requirement of the job. This goes for general behaviour on admin pages as well as the votes themselves. --Cyberbob 11:31, 10 June 2009 (BST)

In relation to Cyberbob's bid, please show me this fantasy world where all of the admins are neutral and fair and kind? :D --Mr. Angel, Help needed? 14:01, 10 June 2009 (BST)

Also, you should make an archive as, while it's not against the rules, it's considered poor form to not archive conversations. They're sometimes used as evidence in admin cases and requests, so when there is a history purge, if the comments aren't archived, the evidence is lost when you try to look back on it.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 14:03, 10 June 2009 (BST)
Alright, thankee! Also, my other comment was more of a joke. I forgot the smiley apparently. T_T --Mr. Angel, Help needed? 15:46, 11 June 2009 (BST)
