Obtaining Historical Status

A policy is in place which outlines the method to attain historical status.

Groups must no longer actively contribute to the game. A nomination should be made on Category talk:Historical Groups. Voting will last for exactly two weeks following nomination. To be successful, a group must be approved by 2/3 of eligible voters to pass. A minimum of 15 votes must be cast for the vote to be valid. The only allowable votes are Yes and No. Groups that pass will be added to the category as described below. Groups must allow a week to pass between nominations. Groups must allow 4 months in between when the group disbands and when they can be nominated for Historical Status. (Note: Only for Malton-based groups)

When nominating a group, please add a note to Template:Wiki News and add {{HistoricalGroupVoting}} to the top of the group's page. Also, please add {{HistoricalVotingRules}} under the group's application for historical status.

ATTENTION! Please submit your nominations and votes by March 13, 12:00 UTC to ensure they count.
If a group is not promoted to historical status by the time the wiki becomes read-only on the 14th, its bid has failed.

THEM

Long running survivor group based in the Haslock Building, Chancelwood. As far as can be remembered the first survivor group to beat the MOB in 2007/2008. The Abandoned

The Abandoned stood alongside the YRC and where the YRC offered the best revive service in the city, they required a shield. That's where The Abandoned came in. Facing off against many of the games most high profile groups and offering a tougher fight than most even when outnumbered. The group maintained many allies and always fought to keep Yagoton and Millen Hills a safe place and were never driven from their home. Standing against PK groups and massive hordes alike. Maintained the baricade plan for the suburbs and ultimately provided safety and assistance to all those who called Yagoton and Millen Hills home. We even to this day maintain our own radio channel on 26.61. And hey, the end is nigh and we're still here. Surely that counts for something. What say you friends and former foes? The Dribbling Beavers

Far more significant than several of the groups nominated here, the Beavers are most famous for beating the most famous and powerful zombie group in the game, Ridleybank Resistance Front in the historical battle, the Battle of Santlerville. This was a month-long siege of Dowdney Mall in which the Beavers absolutely led the way, spearheaded by Sexy Rexy Grossman. Minions of the Apocalypse

A horde that has been unfairly overlooked, ironically due to its longevity meaning that its players idled out during the long tail of Urban Dead, rather than its peak. If they had gone inactive any time before 2010 they would have been guaranteed Historical Group status.

One of the early and defininitive great hordes of Urban Dead. Powerful, organised and led (though not founded) by one of the most influential zombie leaders of all-time, Keith Moon. Zone Defenders

I believe at one point in time, everyone has heard of the SSZ, a survivor plan for the defense of central Malton, an area bordered by four malls with an exceptionally high number of resoure points within reach of each of the four malls. The Zone Defenders came about as a result of the SSZ's inception. The SSZ was an integral part of early survivor barricade plans, and the Zone Defenders was the primary group that helped to maintained those barricade plans.

Manhunt All-Stars

A temporary group formed as part of the Malton Manhunt hosted event, Rage in the Age. It consisted of some of the best Manhunters in the business. And Axe Hack. He was their comic relief guy that was purposely trained wrong as a joke. --Axe Hack Talk 20:45, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

Soldiers of Crossman

Being able to track their history to the '05 era beginning with their parent groups, Liberation of Crossman Department and Crossman Defense Force, the Soldiers of Crossman have been a staple group of not only the NW but Malton as a whole through their bonds built with fellow survivors. Can count long time Zambah group such as FRF, MOB, and OG Dead as our favored enemies.

Never falling off the stats page for more than a few refreshes, their openness to adjusting tactics and taking on the reddest of suburbs helped in keeping them active right up until the servers crapped out. The city broke before the SoC did!

OK. Admittedly PTT's reputation has been tarnished considering a good majority of this group is now run by some zerger who has hijacked old accounts, but...In the beginning, it wasn't always the case. PTT was a group of Taiwanese players originating from a bulletin board - a forum - of the same name. While Urban Dead has always had a major global influence with players around the world, I believe PTT was one of the first few groups where English was not considered a first or second language. It bought a bunch of players from the East to mingle with us players from the West, and it was truly a show of how much global influence Urban Dead had at the time.

Wulves

This group isn't the strongest candidate of those up for consideration. After all, many of the groups on this page are real all-stars. However, I do want to submit them and see what the community thinks.

The Wulves are a long-running survivor group headquartered in Wyke Hills. At their height, they launched raids across southern Malton. Throughout the history of the game, they have maintained Wyke Hills as a consistently safe haven for the living and maintained the Wicksted Building as perhaps the most reliable rot revive clinic in the city. They have maintained exceptional coordination with their allies and even unaffiliated survivors. Anyone tuned to WULVESNET 26.84 MHz will be familiar with their uncommonly-relevant situation reports. Long-time specialists in taking on challenges that most of the survivor side would be too scared to consider, 404 had a special love of going into deeply zombie-held territory and repairing ruined buildings with extremely high repair costs. They also twice captured The Blackmore Building capably enough that special measures were required to purge them as recently as January of this year. They are filthy combat revivers, F5ing spamming psychiatric patients, a total pain in my arse and they corrupted my daughter. The Scourge

A horde that started in 2016 as a "wouldn't it be interesting"-experiment of 2 former EBD-members and quickly grew to become the home of players who were new to the undead experience, as well as of those who returned to it after long breaks. Aside from being consistently active over the past almost-9 years, achievements include thousands of ruins every single year (most of which were meticulously tracked here), a plethora of succesful attacks on trophy buildings (ranging from Malls and Forts to the Burch and Quartly, tracked here), participating in the reverse siege in 5th of November/2016 and in the final big siège of Blackmore in early 2025 and (most importantly) licking a pumpkin that was protected by The Randoms in 2017.

Their history is one of the better documented ones on this wiki, thanks to people like Bob Moncrief and the consistent activity and guidance of the group has been almost entirely thanks to the leadership of Mamah Rotting Rita. If the game wouldn't end soon, I'm confident they would have succeeded in being the first group to have documented ruins of 100% of Malton, as has been our half-joking goal for the past almost-decade.

The Randoms

A Buttonville Group that has been around since April of 2006. They have worked to defend and protect Buttonville (the Butt, as they like to call it) ever since, despite group divisions at times. The group is active to this day, and has been dedicated to keeping the Butt Random, and dressing stylishly in the process. They also have worked to keep Buckley Mall decorated in lights, trees and tinsel throughout the years.

Yagoton Revivification Clinic

One of the oldest groups in Malton centered in Yagoton. No clear leadership or even their own forum, you just had to show up and put in your action points and you were part of the group. CCPD Family

Perhaps not widely known but infuential in our suburb, I played with this group since 2005, activity has dropped of course but there has always been one or two about whenever I've checked in and poked around East Boundwood. From back when we tangled with the Yellow Dart and ALF until now we've been taking care of St. Judes, the Shepard building and of course our police dept HQ (also getting involved in any sieges at Bale Mall in the past along with various historical sieges around Malton). The Penguin Mafia

These guys were always a lot of fun and a notable group of the East Boundwood area, they had 40 members at their peak and were a really fun bunch of characters to have around. At least one member is still active and their old HQ the Stapleton arms and fuel depot Vimpany Auto repair are still maintained. Creedy Guerilla Raiders

CGR was founded in 2006 and has maintained its presence in the Pitneybank area ever since. A fixture in the Pitneybank area since then, CGR was an active PK group often finding its victims in the Giddings Mall and Fort Creedy areas. At one time CGR was one of the largest PKer groups active on the groups page. CGR, throughout its tenure, maintained close ties with the PKA and several other notable PKer groups including the Philosophe Knights and Flowers of Decay. Knights Templar

Founded in July 2006 and a constant presence in Urban Dead ever since. The largest active survivor group in Malton as of March 2025 with a thriving Discord community and new members regularly joining the fold. The KT battled with every major zombie and PKer group in the history of the game and worked with every major pro-survivor group at one stage or another. I don't think that anyone could dispute that the Knights Templar are worthy of Historical Group status. Philosophe Knights

Recognizing that the morality of killing is vastly different in a world where death is nothing more than an inconvenience, the Knights set about “enlightening” the population of Malton on the importance of education. Though they have thousands of kills to their secretive initialisms, the Knights were famous for deploying other tactics to educate the population, such as theater, art, lectures, and training on leading tactics. One thing was always sure: when the Philosophe Knights appeared, people would listen, whether they wanted to or not.

More plainly, the Philosophe Knights were a leading PKer group for years, with an influence that spread far wider and made a much larger impact than their apparent membership might suggest (in part because they frequently eschewed the use of group tags). The Ridleybank Resistance Front

There can be no question that the RRF has been a historical group. I would suggest that it has been the most historical group in the game. No suburb is synonymous with threat to human life in the way that Ridleybank is. The Blackmore Building has been the center of countless large sieges between the RRF and humans fascinated by the danger they cause. The RRF has, simultaneously, menaced whatever area of Malton drew their attention at any particular time. From their founding in 2005 by the mythical Petrosjko to this very day, they have been one of the largest, most powerful, most respected groups in the city. Really, this vote is not over whether the RRF is historical, but rather it is over whether it is appropriate, in this final week, to override the rule against making a group which is still very much active into a historical group. Quartly Study Group

Helping a friend with this nomination, but there's no doubt in my head that QSG is worthy of Historical Group. With their famous lecture series that invited guests from all walks, their impact was felt in the meta community for decades after. Friends to survivors, PKers, death cultists, and zombies alike, they brought people together in a way that few other groups could accomplish and succeeded in carving out a sacred ground that was respected by nearly all groups, even years later. 5. Yes - I disagree that Escape (the group) was robbed before. It was the event of the same name that was robbed of historical status before, with the group not being in the least bit noteworthy, but no one ever made a page for the event (so far as I know) and we aren't going to at this point, so it's better to have a little confusion for future UD historians than nothing at all. Especially so since the event itself was not only historical, it was the catalyst for all sorts of other historical groups/events. Team Xtreme

Team Xtreme deserves more credit than they got back in 2012. They have been the most signicant group within the tiny niche of bounty-hunting, and since the breakdown of the Rogues Gallery and its sanctioned bounty-hunting they weren't going to be surpassed within this niche either. Militant Order of Barhah

The MOB defined Barhah Fundamentalism for Malton, putting into sharp focus the philosophy of always-dead, migratory, horde-focused zombies. While the MOB reigned, zombies and death cultists everywhere had to reconsider or sheepishly justify their necro-religious beliefs. The MOB maintained multiple effective strike teams for years. For years, zombie activity in Malton consisted primarily of a deep red Ridleybank and an uncontrollable wrecking ball in the form of the MOB. It was like a nonstop, all-seasons Mall Tour or Big Bash. Survivors could not stop it, so they resorted to fleeing in terror and picking up the mess left behind. Jorm, The Prophet of Barhah, is personally notable for:

• Being Mayor of Malton from 2010 to today, following the Misanthropy/Revenant administration fulfilling their campaign promise to betray the electorate by handing the keys to the city to Jorm.
• Hosting the IRC server that was a longtime favorite for UD live chat.
• Hosting barhah.com, the forum that was a longtime favorite for zombie groups.
• Making Nexus War, which was more than a little popular. The spiritual successor, Nexus Clash, is still entirely alive.
• Working for WikiMedia, where you may have seen him asking for donations.

The Prophet of Barhah himself once made the case for his horde in an arbitration case over the MOB redirect. In his trademarked steel wool and whiskey style, he addressed another group that hoped to be known as "the mob":

Your group consists of less than 20 and has done *nothing*; my group is over 70 and has *smashed suburbs*. We are the MOB; you are the "Malton Mob."

East Becktown Defenders

Voting Rules

Votes must be numbered, signed, and timestamped. They can take one of two forms: # comments ~~~~ or # ~~~~ Votes that do not conform to the above will be struck by a moderator.

The only valid voting sections are Yes and No. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

The East Becktown Defenders officially disbanded on May 1st, 2020, which makes them eligible for Historical Group status. The EBD had been active since 2016, and included dozens of members, including both veterans and entire newbies. They maintained good relationships with survivor groups (including, but not limited to the DHPD, SoC, Knights Templar and the DEM) and zombie groups (specifically the Daubeney Resident Zombies next door, and of course our favourite frenemies in the RRF). Aside from regular survivor-style operations, they also brought a fun, no-pressure approach to the game, along with wiki-tools (like the automatic SitRep on their group page) and weird events (like the EBD StatParty). The group decided not to fade away like many others, but officially disbanded after exactly 4 years of activity.

2. From what I see is a run-of-the-mill survivor group engaged in standard survivor play of maintaining a particular area. It was not innovative (like MCM or 404 were), it didn't have a distinctive style (like for example B.A.R. or ULC would have), nor was it involved in significant events (like Escape or c4NT were). -- Spiderzed▋ 20:34, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
